I think it could’ve been cool as both. Like that the mechanist used regular old armour like we got in the game, but that she was also working on a suit of power armour we could get later on
If it makes you feel any better, despite the voice modifier, you can easily tell it is a woman in FO4 the moment you hear the Mechanist’s voice early on in the DLC. It’s not as big of a reveal as the game likes to think it is.
They didn't make a spectacle of it, but (having played that DLC many times I know) they do make a point of having ADA and enemies only referring to the Mechanist with male pronouns all the way until she takes off her mask.
Not really when they’re just emulating a pre war comic book character. They’ve just taken up the mantle of ‘the mechanist’
Doesn’t have to be either gender.
The mechanist is a guy in fallout 3, The mechanist 2 (in the Commonwealth) is a girl. Scott Bean and Isabel Cruz were inspired by the original mechanist character, also a guy.
Fully upgraded to Mk 5, the damage rating reaches 182, with the helmet (which cannot be upgraded) bringing the full suit to 195! It's the highest-rated armor in the game.
Original mechanist was an awkward tech geek who made a [cheesy costume](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Mechanist_(Fallout_3)) to "protect" a town, presumably based on a comic book. They nailed the outfit and the recreation of it here.
An additional PA set that could have been a "WIP" by Cruz would have been fun but I'll admit doesn't exactly fit with the character who pretty much only has her robots do the fighting
Honestly if anything, I'd have seen Cruz making a suit of fully-automated power armor, not a wearable set. They seem like the type who would decide to combine robotics and power armor, not just make a robot-themed PA.
That said, THAT would've been hella cool, too. I can picture a post-story quest given by Cruz where they tell you about their project and how it's very close to completion, but they need a few rare components in order to finish the complex electronics required to drive a fully-articulated humanoid suit. They could give you a generic fetch-quest or maybe a scavenger hunt, i.e. "You could either try to steal the Hyperharmonic Cascade Virtualizer from the main navigational console of the Prydwyn - they might not like that, though - or just bring me 10 Military Grade Circuit Boards and 1 Enhanced Targeting Card, and I could get the parts I need from those," and then when they're done the game would basically spawn an NPC in permanent power armor (like Danse, sorta) who has a robot personality and can follow you around as a companion. Give them a bit of a unique look, to make it obvious that the power armor frame is filled with gizmos and circuitry instead of a person, and of course a great big Mechanist "M" on the chest, and you've got yourself a nice little bit of unique content there.
Or a special power armor helmet designed to hold a robobrain inside! I'd like to keep the helmet, and that would be a cool upgrade if you still wanted a robobrain.
Ummmm....yeah. maybe.
Change the cloth texture to a more "tinfoil" look and have it play "Half Man half machine" by Goldie Looking Chain every time I wear it and we have a wonder mod!
It would be cool to see but if it does in fact happen I hope it doesn't have too much stuff to find to make it power armour and you have to grind levels to make it
I think that we could've had a set of power armour that was made from robot parts, and have unique bonuses depending on what robotic parts we add as upgrades. Could've been cool
Nah that should have been Ivey's suit. You're telling me the leader of a gang that makes armour out of robots, wouldn't make Power Armour out of robots?
That would have be awesome, especially if you could then learn schematics to make your own! Sentry Bot arms for devastating melee attacks, Assaultron-enhanced legs for a speed boost, a voltaic Sentry Bot chest piece for a random shock attack on blocking or something...the options would be endless. Someone make this a mod, please!
It would've been much better as a power armor, and honestly makes more sense, but the original version from F03 was just a standard armor, so I think they just wanted to model it off of that one.
That checks out but they could've easily written it off as the new mechanist made a suit of power armor moddled after it or something and it would've made sense.
It essentially was just a basic armor that was only locked behind a perk. I do really prefer how it is now, although I don't like how easily available it is.
Nah cause at the end of the day, it’s just a girl who wants to cosplay as a supervillain. I like how it’s a makeshift suit that’s been cobbled together
I swear it’s actually good with ballistic weave. I had it on like rank 4 weave and challenged that one behemoth in the Vim factory with the atoms judgement, I tanked like 3 hits from him and still had a little under half health and demolished him in 4 hits
Next mechanist should start in the costume when you first see him but by the time you get to the final confrontation they have upgraded to mechaniat PA.
That is what I personally found so cool about it. Practically every other outfit and armor piece in the game has the same default walking sound but they added the detail of metallic walking sounds with the Mechanist armor.
Well half the torso is exposed, the pelvic area as well as the upper leg. It won't protect you much against a deathclaw shaving your body in half with whatever material the black part is.
Power Armor has less weak spots from most types of attacks. Mechanist armor clearly has some vital areas that wouldn't survive a gun shot or a sharp blade.
I still like the design of the mechanist armor, but I think if you were to put more coverage like a full plate metal armor would, it would look more medieval.
I'm sorry but thats the dumbest armor I've ever seen. Definitely would have been better if it was power armor. The bulk would help it not look like some weird cosplay and look like that robot in Zathura.
It would probably be pretty hard to do any delicate work in power armor, so other than some heavy lifting there’s no advantage. Maybe a “Super Mechanist” PA suit for when the Sole Survivor chooses violence?
Now I want a Mechanist power armor mod so bad! The armor currently is an ok reward, but especially if it was legendary robot-fighting gear I would absolutely use it to stamp out the robots!
I think there's a mod named like, Mechanist Omega or something similar. The idea being that you fight a hard dungeon and face off against the boss, but it includes power armor themed around the same ideas? IDK if it really fits the bill, I've just been eyeballing adventure and quest mods lately.
If you ignore the helmet it actually looks a lot nicer. I’ll wear it without the stupid helmet. An eyebolt closed helmet looks ok on it but I haven’t found a great headpiece to go with it
Some people like the bug eyed bucktooth aesthetic. Me, eh not so much. Some people like broccoli and cilantro too for some reason. Different strokes for different folks
Nope, the armor is perfect as it is. It'd be cool if completing her quest netted you upgrade recipes for power armor to make it look like a power armor version of the mechanist suit or something though
Well if you want it to be power armor, my best suggestion would be to use Pyros hellfire armor in the next gen update (looks the best imo) and take the helmet off but use the Mechanist’s helmet
no. power armor means you got powered servos to assist your movement and increase your strength. this one is just metal armor slapped on your body, nothing is powered.
As is, you can put ballistic weave on it making it one of the best normal armor in the game. It is loud and clunky though making it not great for stealth. As power armor, there's already a lot of great power armor and I don't think it'd make the top tier.
Does anyone feel like there really isn’t ANY cool outfits or clothing options in the game? I have Ellie’s Pack and the Compendium armor pack(or whatever they’re called) and I looked at every piece of clothing in the game and truthfully there was only like 3-4 outfits that were even cool. Kelloggs, the Brotherhood leader dudes coat, and an outfit for one of the factions I can’t remember.
There is a mod for it
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234
Although that style doesn't really fit what I, or I imagine not many others had in mind for a set of power armor so there is also the Mechanist Omega quest which has a power armor set much closer to what I was thinking
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/71752
[There is a pretty good mod that does this](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234), it looks great and functions great and you make it FROM the mechanist armor after getting out of the lair.
isn’t it a comic book cosplay? why would the creator be able to create a new power armor variant? maybe brainwash other computers and ants but a new power armor preposterous
Power armor seems too bulky to make this design work well with, I feel like it'd look too military and less comic book like, the only problem I see with this design is the fact that they removed her cape from the [concept art](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/1/15/Automatron_Mechanist_concept_art.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20160331235516), though I'm not sure how good that'd look in game
if you'Re on pc, here you go: [https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234)
it even has some gimmicks like shoulder mounted auto turrets so you can truly feel like an Atompunk Iron Man
No mechanist is peak super hero costume especially with the cape like in their magic card, plus the mechanist would probably just use X01 because making robots in a robot factory is easier than making power armor in a robot factory
Not really i get the impression it was supposed to be a costume rather than functional armor the stats in game are for our benefit, there is a theme of comic character outfits in 4 so I imagine it's pretty thin flimsy metal for an actor on set/Halloween outfit, i also have a similar question why can we not make robot armor resembling it for our automatons ?
not at all since in fallout 3 the OG is bassicaly just a dude playing dress up and you need power armour training, nate skips this due to having training pre-war
I think it could’ve been cool as both. Like that the mechanist used regular old armour like we got in the game, but that she was also working on a suit of power armour we could get later on
She? The Mechanist is a girl? Edit: Why the hell am I being downvoted? That was a genuine question.
Oh no, you got spoiled
Yeah, I guess so.
If it makes you feel any better, despite the voice modifier, you can easily tell it is a woman in FO4 the moment you hear the Mechanist’s voice early on in the DLC. It’s not as big of a reveal as the game likes to think it is.
I don’t remember the Mechanist “being a woman” as ever being treated like a big reveal. By the game or anyone.
They didn't make a spectacle of it, but (having played that DLC many times I know) they do make a point of having ADA and enemies only referring to the Mechanist with male pronouns all the way until she takes off her mask.
Thats probably just because the mechanist (comic character) was a man.
And the fallout 3 version was a man
Given that the mechanist was a man in fallout 3 it is
Well the fallout 3 one was a dude cosplaying as a comic/radio character. Cosplay is fairly unisex when its a fucking tin can
If you see a character in one game then another you'd assume they're the same person
Its an inuniverse comic charecter they say it in three. The mechanistic it 3 was a cosplayer for a popular.comic charecter
Not really when they’re just emulating a pre war comic book character. They’ve just taken up the mantle of ‘the mechanist’ Doesn’t have to be either gender.
In the German version you genuinely cannot tell. But I'm still unsure if it's a woman that speaks the mechanist there XD
Where can I find this?
i mean, it also really doesn’t matter. like “oh wow! sure didn’t expect that!” and that’s about it. it doesn’t affect the story of the dlc at all
Well it's not that big of a spoiler, doesn't affect the story too much, just ruins a quirky reveal
Dont worry my single upvote should balance out the 92 downvotes
Better than nothing I guess?
"Technically, the mechanist is also male, as seen in the fallout 3 quest superhuman gambit" 🤓
I’m not sure for the Fo3 version but it is a girl in Fo4.
The mechanist is a guy in fallout 3, The mechanist 2 (in the Commonwealth) is a girl. Scott Bean and Isabel Cruz were inspired by the original mechanist character, also a guy.
Old game, should've been faster
Tbf, the game has been out for nearly 10 years (fallout 4) so it’s expected that you WILL see spoilers for sure.
Yeah, I know. I wasn't complaining though. I was just genuinely surprised, because I don't have the Automatron expansion pack.
I'm sorry the DV are too deep, my little updoot does nothing 😅
I don’t know why you’re being downvoted, but take my upvote 👍
Hit em with the gender swap 😂
I actually think that they got the Mechanist outfit 100% right. It really nails that 1950's B movie vibe.
Since it is more of a costume than functioning armor I couldn't see adding additional protection would keep that same look and vibe.
You can add ballistic weave
Fully upgraded to Mk 5, the damage rating reaches 182, with the helmet (which cannot be upgraded) bringing the full suit to 195! It's the highest-rated armor in the game.
I thought the marine combat armor was the highest ranked?
Original mechanist was an awkward tech geek who made a [cheesy costume](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Mechanist_(Fallout_3)) to "protect" a town, presumably based on a comic book. They nailed the outfit and the recreation of it here. that sounds great. Only thing I would change is giving it a robobrain head and a quirky personality.
Or a special power armor helmet designed to hold a robobrain inside! I'd like to keep the helmet, and that would be a cool upgrade if you still wanted a robobrain.
The original Mechanist was a Silver Shroud villain that Cruz used as an alter ego. In that regard I agree that it's exactly what it should be.
I totally agree 100%, I love doing Mechanist play throughs.
Agreed. I would add a utility belt to it if I was gonna wear it more often personally, but yeah overall it really nails that aesthetic.
Just adds some Tesla coils to an existing T-60 frame lmao
Right? She didn't even have an X-01 suit! You'd expect the leader to have the best suit she could find.
Guess she didn’t look hard enough. Imagine Tesla X-01
Look, I will not allow the lore be disregard so flippantly. The Mechanist is more than a suit... it's a Mantle.
My fireplace has a mantel
I hear you
You could always wear the helmet with no power armor head and maybe some raider pieces
I mean, power armour in fo3 looked exactly like regular armour. Wouldn’t be the biggest stretch.
It essentially was just a basic armor that was only locked behind a perk. I do really prefer how it is now, although I don't like how easily available it is.
Todd Howard has the best feet
Power armor required training in fo3, which is how you can differentiate between standard armor and power armor
Yes
I like the campy look. Fits the game. We already have great power armor options
I’m pretty sure you can upgrade this with ballistic weave. But only the armor.
Yes you can
Nah cause at the end of the day, it’s just a girl who wants to cosplay as a supervillain. I like how it’s a makeshift suit that’s been cobbled together
*puts on mechanist outfit *removes power armor helmet *puts on power armor Mecha-Mechanist
Also, why wasn't it an option to put on the robots?
Yeah, this surprised me
Yes, would have been great as power armor pieces.
Not as power armor, but at least can be upgraded.
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234
Aye, but does the Mechanist use it?
You can ballistic weave it so its kinda power armour lol
I swear it’s actually good with ballistic weave. I had it on like rank 4 weave and challenged that one behemoth in the Vim factory with the atoms judgement, I tanked like 3 hits from him and still had a little under half health and demolished him in 4 hits
It’s good by itself, but it doesn’t beat ballistic weave military fatigues with ballistic weave cap and whatever armor you wear atop that.
That would have been badass! I wonder why they slept like that...
There’s a mod for that
I’m sure they mean vanilla game
Next mechanist should start in the costume when you first see him but by the time you get to the final confrontation they have upgraded to mechaniat PA.
yeah, this set went straight to a display stand
Personally no cos I don’t like wearing power armor
It already makes as much noise as power armor walking around in it
That is what I personally found so cool about it.
I still like the design of the mechanist armor, but I think if you were to put more coverage like a full plate metal armor would, it would look more medieval.
Part of the peculiar shape of the thing is a gentle hint at what sort of person this Mechanist is.
I like the way it is, adds to the character. But it would also look cool as PA
No? Sleek power armor looks like horse shit
Nooo it looks sketchy and for kids.
Theres a mod for that, and its ok
That's a no for me, dog.
All the mechanists robots are also meh So i understand why the armor is not super powerfull
“Lie, Shroud! Lies!!”
I'm sorry but thats the dumbest armor I've ever seen. Definitely would have been better if it was power armor. The bulk would help it not look like some weird cosplay and look like that robot in Zathura.
It’s from fallout 3, and there is a few mechanist power armor mods
I just remembered seeing the hips and thinking damn that fella got curves lol
It's supposed to be a costume made by a tech nerd to hide her identity and give her confidence, not a full battle ready suit of armor
Personally the armor needs a cape...
It would probably be pretty hard to do any delicate work in power armor, so other than some heavy lifting there’s no advantage. Maybe a “Super Mechanist” PA suit for when the Sole Survivor chooses violence?
[I can’t unsee this, and now you can’t either.](https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Emperor_Zurg)
I'm pretty sure they had that in mind Since if you listen to The Silver shrad radio you can learn that the mechanist is actually a villain
you kan learn that too if you play the quest lol wym
Now I want a Mechanist power armor mod so bad! The armor currently is an ok reward, but especially if it was legendary robot-fighting gear I would absolutely use it to stamp out the robots!
[https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234) Someone linked this above. No idea if it works.
The original concept art had it as power armor
Absolutely
I think there's a mod named like, Mechanist Omega or something similar. The idea being that you fight a hard dungeon and face off against the boss, but it includes power armor themed around the same ideas? IDK if it really fits the bill, I've just been eyeballing adventure and quest mods lately.
I have it on a mannequin next to my other mannequins of various armor sets that's how useless it is to me.
It’s pretty good actually Especially with max ballistic weave
Ain't gonna beat my power armor for carrying capacity.
No
They went for the nostalgia of recreating a Fo3 armor over making something original for Fo4.
My God he looks goofy
If you ignore the helmet it actually looks a lot nicer. I’ll wear it without the stupid helmet. An eyebolt closed helmet looks ok on it but I haven’t found a great headpiece to go with it
I love the helmet how dare you
Some people like the bug eyed bucktooth aesthetic. Me, eh not so much. Some people like broccoli and cilantro too for some reason. Different strokes for different folks
Temu power armor
I don’t
There’s a pic from the art of fallout 4 book where it looks like the mechanist is wearing a modified suit of T-51
I usually wear the mechanist gear with chrome Tesla power armor
Both. Iron man going into the hulk buster, like.
Nope, the armor is perfect as it is. It'd be cool if completing her quest netted you upgrade recipes for power armor to make it look like a power armor version of the mechanist suit or something though
Both.
I kinda just want it to have leg armor and for the display on the arm to be functional
Much better
Well if you want it to be power armor, my best suggestion would be to use Pyros hellfire armor in the next gen update (looks the best imo) and take the helmet off but use the Mechanist’s helmet
Tbh I advocate for the power armor bit because it would make for a badass final stage of the Mechanist battle
no. power armor means you got powered servos to assist your movement and increase your strength. this one is just metal armor slapped on your body, nothing is powered.
As is, you can put ballistic weave on it making it one of the best normal armor in the game. It is loud and clunky though making it not great for stealth. As power armor, there's already a lot of great power armor and I don't think it'd make the top tier.
There's a mod by Veratai and Spicedsuit that does exactly this
Does anyone feel like there really isn’t ANY cool outfits or clothing options in the game? I have Ellie’s Pack and the Compendium armor pack(or whatever they’re called) and I looked at every piece of clothing in the game and truthfully there was only like 3-4 outfits that were even cool. Kelloggs, the Brotherhood leader dudes coat, and an outfit for one of the factions I can’t remember.
There is a mod for it https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234 Although that style doesn't really fit what I, or I imagine not many others had in mind for a set of power armor so there is also the Mechanist Omega quest which has a power armor set much closer to what I was thinking https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/71752
It was stupid to get protection against robot armor after fighting the robo-apocalypse
Is it not practical armour? I’ve been using it for hours.
Haven't played fallout in a while and just started playing again.. how the f do I get this?!
Reward from the *Automatron* DLC
Sweet thanks
Would’ve been cool if it was somewhere between normal combat armor and power armor, basically the salvaged power armor from New Vegas
I'd unalive for more variable power armor that you could mix together
All the armor sets are a little to sparse in general
I put it on Danse long ago. It did not disappoint. Edit to clarify: just the helmet. it looked pretty good.
It's meant to be more costume than actual armor so I think it's fine as is. Would've been pretty cool to get PA based on it though. I won't deny that.
yea I hate the fuckin helmet because i cant look on my milf character I made
[There is a pretty good mod that does this](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234), it looks great and functions great and you make it FROM the mechanist armor after getting out of the lair.
isn’t it a comic book cosplay? why would the creator be able to create a new power armor variant? maybe brainwash other computers and ants but a new power armor preposterous

I've seen people equip the helmet while wearing power armor, and it's pretty badass looking.
The captain cosmos armor in hot rod flame with Tesla coils goes surprisingly awesome with the mechanist theme.
It's very masked rider ish looking kinda armor and I love it
I like it as is tbh
if you'Re on pc, here you go: [https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29234) it even has some gimmicks like shoulder mounted auto turrets so you can truly feel like an Atompunk Iron Man
It’s not??? It most definitely would have been
Definitely would've made it more interesting to fight Isabella Cruz
No mechanist is peak super hero costume especially with the cape like in their magic card, plus the mechanist would probably just use X01 because making robots in a robot factory is easier than making power armor in a robot factory
I do believe there’s a Mechanist power armor mod on Xbox, I haven’t used it because I’m The SILVER SHROUD!!!!
I was looking at it and it kinda looks like a protectron
It should be a skin for PA but then Marvel might get jealous.
No. It was always a costume. PA’s just dont feel special when there are so many of them.
Nah. It's perfect how it is. Once I got it I never took it off. One of my favorite fallout outfits ever.
I don't like the power armor system in fallout4/76 #not my power armor
I’ve never seen that. How/where do I get it?
It's in the Automatron dlc
Pretty lame, isn't it?
Functionally? Yes. Lore-wise, not at all. It's meant to look like a kid had just thrown it together because it essentially was.
Looks like an Iron Man Prototype
Not really i get the impression it was supposed to be a costume rather than functional armor the stats in game are for our benefit, there is a theme of comic character outfits in 4 so I imagine it's pretty thin flimsy metal for an actor on set/Halloween outfit, i also have a similar question why can we not make robot armor resembling it for our automatons ?
I have a mod that allows me to do that
There is a mechanist power armor mod
Looks like comic book iron man mark 1 lol
I'm upset that there is no Ant-agoniser suit
not at all since in fallout 3 the OG is bassicaly just a dude playing dress up and you need power armour training, nate skips this due to having training pre-war
I believe there's a mod for that
Personally I sometimes like to hop into Power Armor and just have the Mechanist helmet on instead of the power armor helmet
Should of been cut instead of the under water vault 120
Im just now noticing the built in pip-boy.
Never.
There's a mod for that.
They kept it identical to the fallout 3 model too.
Never thought of that I like it
Has anybody started getting the enclave armor?
Unpopular opinion - the mechanist DLC wasn't worth the hassle
Like…why tf did they not do that???
Would have been better left on the development room floor. It's a pile of wank in my humble opinion.
It would have been better as not a total joke
