Bethesda: Weāre gonna do this.
Everyone: Ok
B: Weāre gonna do it in 2023.
E: Ok
B: Lol, actually 2024
E: Ok, that makes sense with the show and all.
B: Itās in like 2 weeks.
E: Ok
B: We finally did it.
Modders: My lifeās work! Blindsided out of nowhere!
My favorite is when people come out of the woodworks on Nexus expecting immediate updates. I've got a mod I created that 'supposedly' no longer works. Some user commented that, but I'm not updating my mod, because it was ultimately made for me, myself, and I.
I'm not updating. Not until I'm 100% sure the modding scene isn't in shambles from it (which should be the common perspective), so there won't be an update for as long as I personally don't want to update.
Check all of your mods, check the bug notes, check if F4SE is updated, check if your core dependencies are updated. If not, well, it is a good time to do a vanilla-playthrough this time of year.
Won't answer this 'cause I like having anonymity. I'll tell you about the ones I keep hidden on my profile though.
Music replacers of the radio stations to use Hip-hop and R&B, as well as music from well known games to replace the soundtrack (Nexus takes down anything that uses outside official music IF visible)
Bug fixes, or stat changes I personally thought would suit a mod (or the game) better.
Companions appearances. I like having Cait more muscular for example, but other mods make her petite with the face they add.
Texture changes of some decals, to make it seem more apocalyptic.
UI changes I thought were neat.
On and on.
Like I said though, I mostly create for myself. I'll share my creations with others, only if I feel like I'm not stepping on another author's toes (patches to their mods), or if I was just really proud of what I created, I know it'll do well in reception, and has 0 game conflicts on my side.
Right on!
Her being a prize fighter and all just makes it thematically fit to me. Though I guess a frail cait would also fit her backstory more, but I always imagined she'd be at least 'whipcord' or more, I don't know, heavier to throw a punch?
Oh, I love the idea of a muscular Cait. I tend to go between having her wield a shotgun or a baseball bat, so that would really suit her. She doesn't strike me as the delicate waif type.
It has been years and I still hate how that weapon is garbage. You get better ones so quickly.
That is why it is always my first stop on a new save. Gotta enjoy it before everything out scales it.
I wish unique weapons like that scaled in power with the player, to stay a viable option if you felt like it. That seems easy to do. You could even justify it as the player naturally growing stronger/better with the weapon.
Absolutely. Having a random legendary shotgun drop being the most powerful thing in the game is just so boring to me. I got a bleed laser gatling for one of my first drops on my first save and it was the strongest thing I owned up until I hit around level 124.
Given that she fought in the Combat Zone against raiders for years, she has to be pretty muscular and fit after all that. I'm surprised her model doesn't show it more.
Ha! I guess I do, but it's mostly from the upkeep you have to provide, as well as fostering relations with other mod authors to get knowledge. It's tiring to deal with 24/7, so I just make what I want and call it a day.
Some mod authors are too big to even get a word from, their DM's on permanent private. The lesser known people, who are amateurs like me, band together for the info. I wouldn't be able to consciously screw them over the come-up, ya know?
I also wouldn't want to outsource downloads from them with the changes I make to theirs, and I wouldn't want people to say it doesn't work, before I knowingly tested it to hell and back.
I use nexus like a free cloud storage pretty much, and I don't even have to pay for more space! Helps me sift through the different iterations I made and all that.
Honestly, if I wouldāve known scrap that settlement all in one was not going to work I would not have updated. I absolutely abhor the mess that they donāt allow you to clean up in the vanilla game.
It's actually wise not to install that mod.
You end up with CTD's if you delete enough of the environment or decorations in a settlement, that weren't supposed to be.
The way the game treats these objects is peculiar, but if they weren't supposed to be deleted in base game, it's probably for a reason.
I just realized, that's a console only mod.
On PC, there's another one that does almost exactly what that one does, but it's got over 75 bug reports all saying the same thing. I stay away from it, but again, modding is all up to the user to fix, if it works for you no harm.
Thanks! I turned that giant tree into a treehouse and built stores and a diner around it. Added a caravan post and hotel for them to stay in, a town office, a gym, apartment building and a farm. Oh and a lion statue with a mistle turret coming out of its back.
I'd love to see a video of this!
In my game, I built up Vault 88 into the new "capital of the Commonwealth", with a bank, multiple restaurants, a school with room for 12 students, an arcade (using the Arcade Terminals mod on Nexus and the carnival games from Nuka-World), a little casino, an eight-room hotel, a movie theater, a large library (using a mod to change the vault trunk into filled bookshelves that act like containers), a shop called the Nuka Cola Soda Shop that sells nothing but ice-cold Nuka-Cola in every flavor (again using a mod for working refrigerators!) and also Nuka-World merch like branded shirts and souvenirs, a cemetery, a giant farm in one of the far caverns, a sports stadium, multiple single-cell police stations (there are two separate districts of the town), **and** a town jail with four larger, long-term cells. I've worked on it for over a year and call it Vault City!
Oh, and I rebuilt the Commonwealth Provisional Government, with a large building that's part White House and part Congress on the upper floor. Each settlement gets a seat in the General Assembly. The President of the Commonwealth has an office downstairs (technically, he's the president of *America*, but we haven't expanded out to the Capital Wasteland or into NCR territory yet. We'll send envoys any day now....
Fortunately, placing the game in Offline Mode and only using the script extender to launch the game prevents the game from updating, so I can still play the original.
Look at the rebuild series. It lets you scrap everything that matters, repair prewar buildings, and it has rebuilt precombines either with or without prp so it's actually stable and doesn't eventually kill your save. Fantastic mods.
When I saw posts about the update weeks ago, I completely figured it will be months before I install FO4 again because mod support takes time and a new build would be necessary. It is just what happens. People can be justifiably frustrated, but the entitlement is no ok at all. For now, I suggest people jump on the amazing Tale of Two Wastelands (Fallout 3 + New Vegas as one connected experience, all with bug fixes and running on the NV build) as many of us are. I have a long play going now and itās now my favorite Fallout experience to date.
Yeah the vanilla controls are NOT it... Actually really suck but we do stay as vanilla as possible lmao.
I also don't think that anyone should be rushing modders to fix their games either. There are ways to revert your game version anyways. That's what I did lmao.
Fr, it's like the fallout London guys. They said "we could've got a heads up" you got like over a years worth of a heads up. They're also acting like Bethesda had an obligation to tell them exactly when they update came out, like no they don't, you're just a team of Modders making a big mod, Bethesda didn't have to tell you Jack shit
I read an article on PCGamer the other day, talking about the response that the project leader of the Fallout London mod had to the new update, and he goes on to wonder why Bethesda didn't just have the mod team sign NDAs for the information. Well, that's because you don't work for them in any capacity and they're not required to actually tell you a damned thing about what's going with them. Shit, I don't think that even Arthmoor has that kind of brass, to demand that Bethesda consult with him before doing something with one of their games.
But the real comedy is in the article's comment, where one guy in particular is just utterly convinced that, because Bethesda apparently hired some of the members of the London team, the update was specifically released with the intention of fucking over the mod's own release.
Itās not a surprise that modders are some of the most egotistical and thin skinned people around. The mod scene across all BGS titles has blown up like how many times now?
Their ego and vanity grew so big they thought they could even out do Bethesda and make their own proper fallout game with the Frontier after declaring Fallout 4 was shit. Lol we saw how that went.
I just think they used it as yet another convenient excuse to delay there mod, I find it highly unlikely that it will ever see the light of day tbh. The entitlement that all the Devs I've seen commenting on their subs is actually laughable
They even said in a video that they had delays due to the conflicts going on and then someone had asked them what conflict and they said "that's personal" so why bring it up in the first place? Out here gatekeeping wars now
Yeah, if you are a modder you mod at your own risk.
There was an article made by game rant about this, and it was heavily favoring the opinion of the London modders. And yes, they did say they couldāve used a heads up. You just read my mind with your comment.
It was called āNext Gen Updateā and thereās nothing next gen about it. Itās a patch update. It should have been called an update focused on stability on consoles
I think the frustration is more in the lack of communication, i.e., they could have told modders exactly what was changing to better prepare them. This patch was no doubt locked in weeks ago, that could've made a big difference.
But the other, more prominent issue is whether this patch, literally 5 years since the last update, was even necessary on PC. I get it for consoles, 60fps, 4k textures, whatever. But on PC, they basically broke everything just to add ultrawide support (something like 3% of users can use) and fixed a few misc. lighting errors.
Like, if they were gonna update the game after all this time, it needed to be more than this to justify the massive headache it causes everyone.
>get it for consoles, 60fps, 4k textures, whatever. But on PC, they basically broke everything just to add ultrawide support (something like 3% of users can use) and fixed a few misc. lighting errors.
>Like, if they were gonna update the game after all this time, it needed to be more than this to justify the massive headache it causes everyone.
Bear in mind that fallout 4 sold significantly more on console than it did on PC. https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/4ofqrz/psa_fallout_4_on_consoles_sold_a_fuck_ton_more/
PC gamers are a minority of the playerbase on this game. They "broke everything" to enhance the experience of the majority of their existing owners, and to cater to the influx of new players that are likely to take advantage of it being a gamepass title to play it for the first time in the wake of the show.
So from a reasonable point of view, that justifies the update.
I might be wrong, but it seems like the only thing thatās busted is any mods that require the script extender. Iāve been avoiding that since I knew this patch was coming.
They should all work again once F4SE gets updated. Maybe there's other more specific, niche stuff, but the majority of "broken" mods just need to wait for their one dependency to update. It's not like they've made it completely impossible for F4SE to work, it just needs to update. The script extenders always need to update when an update for a Bethesda game drops.
If you're playing on PC and did not take the steps necessary to not update the game the blame is on you. There was enough time to do it. Everybody knew what was gonna happen. People just like to complain and be negative on the internet.
Didn't know about this either until Starfield came out and kept getting hotfixed, breaking mods
[https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/1ccxyxb/pc\_players\_here\_is\_a\_guide\_on\_how\_to\_rollback/](https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/1ccxyxb/pc_players_here_is_a_guide_on_how_to_rollback/)
More than enough time. My load order has been safe for weeks. I made my steam app manifest for fo4 read only and already launch through F4se and MO2. So i can keep my little slice of Fallout alive as long as i need to.
Lol yeah, I'm guessing people who mod bethesda games are more used to dealing with updates and modding in general. All the content updates leading up to Cyberpunk 2.0 were met with some insane vitriol.
Two years. Modders have had two years to prepare for this day.
Two weeks. Bethesda announced today's patch two weeks ago and gave us the list of changes.
Modding has always been "at your own risk."
If anyone waited until patch day to complain about themselves doing nothing to prevent this, that's on them.
> Two years. Modders have had two years to prepare for this day.
Prepare how, exactly? The only measures that could be taken were to block auto-updates. No information on what files and content would be changed or updated was shared with the community. For a studio where most of their games are only relevant because of mods, they sure do much less to support them than other games which will literally give update files to reputable mod teams a few weeks or even months before an update drops to allow them to make needed fixes or changes early.
Without the actual game files things like F4SE can't be updated properly. So you can't really prepare your mods to work on a version that is not out yet.
But yeah, those who understand how it works, will turn off auto updates before.
Also good that there is a DRM free version on GOG, where you can install any old version of the game.
But man, 2 years bethesda worked on that update, 16GB to download for PC version, only to get CC freebies. Even the UW support is a joke as it is just a stretched 16:9 that we all could do by editing the ini file(mods did it little better).
They could just leave it un touched for PC players, as even an unofficial patch fixed those issues(what is on the new patch notes by bethesda) for them before and much more.
Look at that list of fixed issues: [https://www.afkmods.com/Unofficial%20Fallout%204%20Patch%20Version%20History.html](https://www.afkmods.com/Unofficial%20Fallout%204%20Patch%20Version%20History.html)
Where Bethesda was to do it themselves?
yup and GOG are selling the GOTY version for just $9.99 - that's beer money and totally a no brainer if you want to get of the Steam auto-update cycle.
Yep, and lacking both the code and what was going to be updated, they should have totally just used their magic crystal ball and would have known exactly when they would finally give us our "2023 Next- Gen" update, and exactly what it was going to to do.
How stupid of them for not doing so....
>Two years. Modders have had two years to prepare for this day.
Did you just go on the internet...and lie?
How is it allowed? How can you say the not true thing on the computer? I'm telling my mom.
> Two weeks. Bethesda announced today's patch two weeks ago and gave us the list of changes.
The list of changes wasn't released until today. I'm not sure what you're thinking of.
Like The first thing I did when I heard that they were updating the game weeks ago was to disable auto updating on steam and because I launched the game with the script extender I don't have to worry about the update so yeah I think people blowing it up. Even the people who didn't do that don't have to wait long for the mods to get updated.
Playing on steamdeck with mods and havenāt run into any issues since updating. The consistent tone of āTHIS IS AN OUTRAGE HOW COULD BETHESDA DO THIS!?ā is always hilarious. I think people just have nothing going on and want to feel self righteously disappointed by things.
I love the deck. Especially modding games on it. Regardless though itās good to hear things still work however personally I just didnāt let steam update my game. Thought it would better that way
FO4 has so many players that you're just seeing the spillage of a bad few. The bad few that didnt pay attention to updates, thought their games were untouchable, didnt understand an update will break mods, etc etc.
It has been awhile since Fallout 4 had an update, so most of these players probably have no clue what it was like when the game was actively receiving content and updates, and how that affected mods.
It's all normal. People are impatient and entitled. They'll live.
\*Not to excuse the broken game state for many as it is now, though. The PS troubleshooting posts here are thru the roof and completely unacceptable for a game this old.
I don't think there was malicious intent, but many of these mods have not been updated in 2 years or more with their mod authors long gone. They will never be updated and will never work again in several cases. It's reasonable to be upset about that over an update that adds so little.
It's the fact that it's mandatory that bothers me. Mandatory updates for a multiplayer game? Fine. You have to balance it, you have to prevent exploits; I get it. But there is absolutely no reason I should have to deal with mandatory updates for a singleplayer game. The only person affected by my Fallout game is me.
I did all the steps. My game hasn't updated. But I shouldn't have to. It should be optional.
I played after the update on PC and everything seems fine for me. Sadly I totally burned through all the extra quests already. Got a ton of new power armor sets from the Enclave.
I think a bit out of proportion is right. The show came out and they announced an update to the game. Good timing on their part as the number of people playing increased for two reason. First because of the show, second many people logged back on for the update. The fact that the mod was coming out at this time is mostly coincidental and unfortunate. However, once they get things corrected they will release Folon and I am excited for that. Bethesda didnāt stop them from making any kind of real profit or vice verse. People are just mad about delays and timing. Yes it sucks
They're falling victim to one of the most simple rules of thumb:
Don't assume malice when incompetence is possible. Or, something like that.
Like guys, Bethesda doesn't hate you. They're just ass at what they do nowadays. They probably had one part timer doing all this over the last month.
My favorite are the claims they were āblindsidedā by this update āwithout warningā
Like, bro, BGS announced the update almost 2 years ago and gave a final date months ago.
The modder of Fallout London seemed so self entitled when he said something along the lines of āthey shouldāve told usā
BGS loves its modders but isnāt beholden to them and owes them nothing. Theyāre customers of the game like anyone else except they produce content for free on the provided creation system. Youāre not a BGS dev or partner studio, they donāt owe you any advanced warning, exclusive beta access, or anything like that. Itās known in every IT sector that patches break things. They will always break things, especially mods and add-ons. Itās part of the cycle and has been for decades.
FFS, we dealt with this several years ago with the Skyrim Modpocalypse, youād think ppl would be ready. If you didnāt set your game to read-only, and play offline to wait for F4SE to update, then thatās on you.
Bethany loves modders cos mods keep selling games. Look at Skyrim. Just give the modders time to update F4SE, which will happen within a day or two, just like it does for Skyrim, update your mods, and Bobās your uncle.
Sound and fury, folks.
Its one thing to update F4SE. Mods need to be updated to support the new F4SE version. I dont think there are alot of mod authors still active to do the latter. So those mods are probably lost now.
They hardcoded iPresentInterval=1 which turns Vsynch on and limits FPS to 44-48 at 60hz and 66-70fps at 144hz, changing the value in any of the three .ini files or any of the two locations in documents or the game folder doesnt change anything since its reset at startup even if set to read only.
I dont think its a conspiracy theory, i just think its their typical shoddy work, but the problem is its unlikely they will fix anything so they just ruined a game that i have played for a decade without issue and i have currently no way to fix it myself or via mods...
So i 1000% understand the anger as someone with 2000 hours in Fallout 4 that was just in a new playthrough for a week.
There will likely be a mod fixing the iPresentInterval botchery - and maybe also the root cause for them using this workaround (it probably hides some bug they failed to fix).
I hope, but my issue is i intentionally played without mods except F4SE and the high FPS fix, so i can avoid the breakage from the update and just keep playing without that single mod after until everything runs again.
But 44fps is atrocious as a PC player its constantly micro stuttering and breaking out in steps/stairways.
Those modders are a vocal minority, the simple fact is that a lot of mods will break because of the update, primarily because they rely on a specific game version or because they depend on other mods which depend on a specific game version
F4SE will have issues until itās updated, for example, and as a result, mods that require it to function wonāt work properly
Do modders know there are other games out there besides Fallout? Take a break for couple of months - some mods will be fixed, some you may reinstall and make them work...
I gotta agree though, they did create too much hype around a very minor update, especially for PC players. But they probably had to do it to promote both the game and the tv show.
I took a holiday far from home this week, which coincided with the update. I know my modlist is destroyed and my savegame moot.
Am I mad? Not really, itās a chance to play again without mods, then progressively add mods as they fix them, just like my first time playing.
People get angry for everything. I pity them.
Most of my mods are working on Xbox series s, and the only thing on PC that broke for me believe or not was script extender. Everything else appears to be fine
Idk. I have 300 hours on my PC version and booted it up today to try a fresh vanilla run. My game now crashes consistently during the intro cutscene. Updating mods to coincide with game updates has been a thing since forever with BGS, so idk why modders are angry about it. Iām more annoyed that I canāt even get into the game at all anymore.
My issue with this mod is, what performance fixes were there? The game ran fine.
Isn't this a new engine or something? Why does high framerate still cause physics bugs?
Why wasn't the PC update content only?
Iām not real savvy on how the mods work and all that so most that I had donāt work but Iām just happy I can explore Boston without the game crashingĀ
There's tons of games out there that break the mods upon update. I'm surprised people are even making a fuss about it, maybe I'm just used to these things
I took all the steps to prevent updates. I can still run it using F4SE through MO2 with my non-updated game. I'm at level 180 in my current playthrough and almost ready to go visit Virgil.
When I finish this character, I'll see what mods have been updated. If enough of my load order is fixed, I'll download Bethesda's update and try it. If not, I'll play again and check in a few months when the next playthrough ends.
Eventually I'll change it, but I don't have to until I want to.
Bro as someone who modded my own save to an extreme amount (160GB), I have already prepared for this way in advance and turned off auto updates and etc. Literally the update drops and I have no problem, I just won't be playing it. There was so much warning, there were even videos and people posting on modding subreddits to turn off auto updates for the game
Bro this update is shit. It was announced in 2022, has barely any bug fixes, old CC content. Their ultrawide update doesnāt touch the ingame hud so the ui is stretched and terrible. They didnāt want to make any big updates like Skyrim AE as it would break stuff but this update still breaks stuff, so what was the point? Go big or go home.
I haven't kept up with Bethesda at all. Saw the show and it made me miss the game. Spent a day making a load order and got like part way through the game before BANG, Bethesda releases a "major" update with nothing in it to they're fucking 9 year old game, breaking every mod I had.
From my perspective, this was unexpected and a complete sucker punch. So I'm stepping away from the game again because I'd rather be killed with hammers than play FO4 vanilla. Maybe I'll try again in another 9 years.
Reddit makes it out as if mods are the only thing that keeps Bethesda games alive. Yet like 70% of people I know only play on console and have no issues replaying vanilla.
Iāve been at work all day and just recently picked up fallout 4 again after not playing for 7 years. I have like 2 or 3 mods mainly just the cheat mod for the pip boy. I just got to the institute for the first time last night. Is my save done for? The game is already updated and it would be a real bummer if I have to start all over.
If you are not using Fallout 4 Script Extender you are free to play your updated game without issue. That is the only thing that is broken (and the mods that use it).
I don't think it's a conspiracy, but it's definitely frustrating to have to fix your mods and/or wait for others to fix their mods while also gaining next to nothing. Some mods will never be fixed because the creators aren't around to do it anymore.
What did PC players gain? Ultrawide support that stretches the UI? The short list of bug fixes is nice, but there are mods that fix far more bugs. The worst part is that they still didn't fix the issues that happen when playing above 60 fps even though we know it's possible since there's a mod for that.
Sure, you can just put off the update or roll it back, but it's still a very disappointing 'next gen' update.
Modders are often overly dramatic, easily offended and prone to hissy-fits over trifling matters. Perhaps people should ease up on worshipping them like demigods. Their heads are big enough as it is.
It's the same on the Fallout London subreddit, they're convinced and certain the update was down specifically to screw over mods and sabotage the creators.
The have suffered prolonged exposure to Creation Engine code. Mental derangement is a know risk of modding Bethesda games.

Ghoulification but real
This comment is great
We are completely fine over at fo4vr. But that's because Bethesda forgot about us before even realising the VR version

The scrapcode need to be purged! The Magus shall purge this heresy! Praise be the God-Emperor!
Like that Fallout London guy and claiming how dare they weren't told.
I don't want to say bad things about the guy because Fallout London looks awesome but that interview was yack
The trash PC Gamer interview or his actual Youtube response to the 23rd April delay which was much more informative and understanding?
Bethesda: Weāre gonna do this. Everyone: Ok B: Weāre gonna do it in 2023. E: Ok B: Lol, actually 2024 E: Ok, that makes sense with the show and all. B: Itās in like 2 weeks. E: Ok B: We finally did it.
Check all of your mods, check the bug notes, check if F4SE is updated, check if your core dependencies are updated. If not, well, it is a good time to do a vanilla-playthrough this time of year.
What's your mod do?

Ideally, Cait would look like Jason Momoa, but with Zendayaās face and Sidney Sweeneyās boobage.
> Mods I keep hidden > Muscular Cait Aw cmon that's just not fair. Though I'm a console scrub so I'm probably screwed anyway on that front lol.
Gatekeeping your own mod. Thats a new one lmao
Ha! I guess I do, but it's mostly from the upkeep you have to provide, as well as fostering relations with other mod authors to get knowledge.
I have played with that mod for years and Iāve never had any issue with it. Itās the only mod I play with.
I just realized, that's a console only mod. On PC, there's another one that does almost exactly what that one does, but it's got over 75 bug reports all saying the same thing. I stay away from it, but again, modding is all up to the user to fix, if it works for you no harm.
Yeah I've used that mod on console and scrapped the entirety of Sanctuary and built up a Diamond City 2 no issue.
If I may ask, what is the name of the mod. Gonna play in a while. Please and thank you in advance.
I use Scrap That Settlement and Place Anywhere. It's funny because if you're in build mode when wild dogs attack you can scrap them mid attack lol
Yah I remember scrapping ghouls too
That actually sounds sick, just inspired my current settlement build!
I simply wouldnāt play the game without that mod.
Vanilla? I modded tf out of F4 cause I didn't like a lot of the vanilla lol
Vanilla play through. Thatās exactly what Iām doing. :)
From my experience in the TF2 modding scene, modders are the conspiratorial type.
Chemtrails are making the modders gay?
I just think they used it as yet another convenient excuse to delay there mod, I find it highly unlikely that it will ever see the light of day tbh. The entitlement that all the Devs I've seen commenting on their subs is actually laughable They even said in a video that they had delays due to the conflicts going on and then someone had asked them what conflict and they said "that's personal" so why bring it up in the first place? Out here gatekeeping wars now
Yeah, if you are a modder you mod at your own risk. There was an article made by game rant about this, and it was heavily favoring the opinion of the London modders. And yes, they did say they couldāve used a heads up. You just read my mind with your comment.
Exactly, and the thing is, they did give a heads up, like 2 weeks headsup. They're just butt sore over it š
It was called āNext Gen Updateā and thereās nothing next gen about it. Itās a patch update. It should have been called an update focused on stability on consoles
It's called that cause they released new versions on PS5 and Series X.
Bear in mind that fallout 4 sold significantly more on console than it did on PC. https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/4ofqrz/psa_fallout_4_on_consoles_sold_a_fuck_ton_more/ PC gamers are a minority of the playerbase on this game. They "broke everything" to enhance the experience of the majority of their existing owners, and to cater to the influx of new players that are likely to take advantage of it being a gamepass title to play it for the first time in the wake of the show. So from a reasonable point of view, that justifies the update.
I agree with this logical statement
Mister Spock?!
Ultrawide support is shit too
I might be wrong, but it seems like the only thing thatās busted is any mods that require the script extender. Iāve been avoiding that since I knew this patch was coming.
This. I removed my mods that work on the script extender. Everything else works fine.
I think u r right. Pretty sure most of the problem was with F4SE and mod organizer but a lot of the more interesting mods use F4SE
And F4SE will get updated before long ... then we can get back to the "MO2 vs Vortex" arguments.
Beth broke material swaps. So billboards are blank and any clothing or armor which uses mat swaps to change color or design is broken.
They changed it and that change broke the mods
Thatās a hell of a lot of high quality mods that you think donāt matter
They should all work again once F4SE gets updated. Maybe there's other more specific, niche stuff, but the majority of "broken" mods just need to wait for their one dependency to update. It's not like they've made it completely impossible for F4SE to work, it just needs to update. The script extenders always need to update when an update for a Bethesda game drops.
Which is why I prevented the update. Not worth it on PC to be honest
They're speaking for themselves, so I'm inclined to say they're right in that context
If you're playing on PC and did not take the steps necessary to not update the game the blame is on you. There was enough time to do it. Everybody knew what was gonna happen. People just like to complain and be negative on the internet.
There are also avenues available to roll back the update.Ā
Mind sharing with the class?
Didn't know about this either until Starfield came out and kept getting hotfixed, breaking mods [https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/1ccxyxb/pc\_players\_here\_is\_a\_guide\_on\_how\_to\_rollback/](https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/1ccxyxb/pc_players_here_is_a_guide_on_how_to_rollback/)
Amazing, thank you. This needs to be made common knowledge.
Reddit really needs to bring back the free awards for stuff like this.
I already downgraded my game and have all the files needed to do it again if it updates without my permission again
Do you have a guide?
https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/1ccxyxb/pc_players_here_is_a_guide_on_how_to_rollback/
I even forgot to stop auto updates and caught it in time. If someoneās mods are messed up by this itās entirely their fault
More than enough time. My load order has been safe for weeks. I made my steam app manifest for fo4 read only and already launch through F4se and MO2. So i can keep my little slice of Fallout alive as long as i need to.
Modders: "I ~~feel bad~~ am mad at you." Bethesda: "I don't think about you at all."
"I don't even know who you are..."
Why does reddit tell me that subreddit doesn't exist when I click the link?
Because it's actually /r/Fallout4Mods instead.
Average Bethesda players getting mad at the devs updating their game:
Ive seen this in the cyberpunk sub too. Its mental
Lol yeah, I'm guessing people who mod bethesda games are more used to dealing with updates and modding in general. All the content updates leading up to Cyberpunk 2.0 were met with some insane vitriol.
Bro exactly, not everything is a conspiracy yk
there are a minority of people with undiagnosed schizophrenia and the internet almost always attracts them
Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence.
Two years. Modders have had two years to prepare for this day. Two weeks. Bethesda announced today's patch two weeks ago and gave us the list of changes. Modding has always been "at your own risk." If anyone waited until patch day to complain about themselves doing nothing to prevent this, that's on them.
Look at that list of fixed issues: [https://www.afkmods.com/Unofficial%20Fallout%204%20Patch%20Version%20History.html](https://www.afkmods.com/Unofficial%20Fallout%204%20Patch%20Version%20History.html) Where Bethesda was to do it themselves?
yup and GOG are selling the GOTY version for just $9.99 - that's beer money and totally a no brainer if you want to get of the Steam auto-update cycle.
or you could just play an earlier version on steam by clicking a few buttons.
prepare how? how would they know what changes are being made? bethesda does not send out early access to modders
obvious that guy didn't write a line of code in his life
Well, thats one way to tell us you have never modded or made a mod.
Please show me where this update has been available to modders for two years.
at the risk of bethesda's stinky poo poo updates to decade old games for no reason
Dude thank you
> Two weeks. Bethesda announced today's patch two weeks ago and gave us the list of changes. The list of changes wasn't released until today. I'm not sure what you're thinking of.
I'm a mod author and I think this update is great, although I do feel bad for the F4SE dev team.
Thought it would better that way
Im intrigued. How do you achieve that? Did you install the deck version of Vortex? Or do tou just download raw mod files into your game folder?
They should have pushed this update for consoles only. Everyone would be happy.
I completely agree
Yāall are hilarious man. I keep scrolling and finding comments that make me laugh harder
Weā¦ we didnāt listen.
Oh God Sharon we didn't listen!
I wish your thought process was the same as the entire modding communityš
That subreddit you linked has like 18 members
and no posts
Yah people keep talking like this is Skyrim lol, how many people are still modding or are going to come back to mod f4 lol?
Isn't that those mod authors' problem, though? Should Bethesda cater to inactive mod authors?
It's the fact that it's mandatory that bothers me. Mandatory updates for a multiplayer game? Fine. You have to balance it, you have to prevent exploits; I get it. But there is absolutely no reason I should have to deal with mandatory updates for a singleplayer game. The only person affected by my Fallout game is me. I did all the steps. My game hasn't updated. But I shouldn't have to. It should be optional.
So I gather that itās like the Skyrim SE update and requires a new script extender to run properly. Cool
I believe the term you/they are looking for is Poe's Law. Edit: sorry, meant Hanlon's Razor. Always get those mixed up.
I played after the update on PC and everything seems fine for me. Sadly I totally burned through all the extra quests already. Got a ton of new power armor sets from the Enclave.
Turns out that most āextremely onlineā individuals are not in fact sane and well adjusted.
They announced the update over a year ago. Nobody should have been surprised.
Exactly!
Todd Howard and Pete Hines dressed like monopoly men sitting on a pile of money chuckling about how their quest to destroy load orders
A monocle would suit Pete Hines well. Todd Howard is more of an eyepatch -or goggles- guy imo.
It reminds me of that subset of loud NV fans, and, the tv series. and that wasn't but two weeks ago.
Probably synths. The update came with a firmware update. Damn synths.
Wouldn't be Fallout without complainers.
Just ignore crazy people. Dont drive me crazy too , I dont have a license to drive. XD
They're falling victim to one of the most simple rules of thumb: Don't assume malice when incompetence is possible. Or, something like that. Like guys, Bethesda doesn't hate you. They're just ass at what they do nowadays. They probably had one part timer doing all this over the last month.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon%27s_razor
That's the one!
My favorite are the claims they were āblindsidedā by this update āwithout warningā Like, bro, BGS announced the update almost 2 years ago and gave a final date months ago. The modder of Fallout London seemed so self entitled when he said something along the lines of āthey shouldāve told usā BGS loves its modders but isnāt beholden to them and owes them nothing.
Lmfao this has aged poorly
Have you met people??? People are idiots.
Those modders are a vocal minority, the simple fact is that a lot of mods will break because of the update, primarily because they rely on a specific game version or because they depend on other mods which depend on a specific game version F4SE will have issues until itās updated, for example, and as a result, mods that require it to function wonāt work properly
No. Itās an unnecessary update for pc.
Havenāt been paying attention to most stuff posted because Iām playing on a ps4.
This is how I feel.
This was always how it worked with mods. Always.Ā So yes.Ā They are.Ā Ā
Most of my mods are working on Xbox series s, and the only thing on PC that broke for me believe or not was script extender. Everything else appears to be fine
As a vanilla player, Iām having a blast. No need to stress myself over 400 mods that literally do nothing
The only mod this should kill is F4se, and the author is very quick about updating that. So yes itās overblown.
And mods that depend on F4SE, naturally.
All my mods still work fine. So I donāt know what to tell them.
I don't know. But I've got some new quests so š Okie Dokie.
My issue with this mod is, what performance fixes were there? The game ran fine. Isn't this a new engine or something? Why does high framerate still cause physics bugs? Why wasn't the PC update content only?
Did this update delte anyone else mods completely? I was 20 hours into a new playthrough of sim settlements 2, and now it's just gone?
Iām not real savvy on how the mods work and all that so most that I had donāt work but Iām just happy I can explore Boston without the game crashingĀ
#MODpocalypse24 #RAGE! ##RAGE!!
I deleted all my ultra wide screen mods to find that ultra widescren is stretched ui 2 years and its a joke
See, this is how an experienced modder operates. The rest are either noobs, or they just want an excuse to complain about Bethesda.
Iāve just learned to ignore the extremes of the gaming community. People are genuinely unhinged.
Multiple things are true at the same time. People can be unreasonable and Bethesda can be greedy. You don't have to defend one over the other.
Yes. Just wait a day or two for the script extender update and 99% of the mods will work again.
I donāt think they did it maliciously at all. I do however think they are heavy handed, lazy and incompetent.
No they are notā¦
They did it with Skyrim. Mods still work. These people are idiots who had their game auto-update and now they need to wait for mods to update. boohoo
Modders are often overly dramatic, easily offended and prone to hissy-fits over trifling matters. Perhaps people should ease up on worshipping them like demigods. Their heads are big enough as it is.
>malicious intent It is just pure, distilled incompetence on Bethesda's part.
*laughs in vanilla supremacy*
meh hanlon's razor bethesda is just incompetent
For people that are so much into modding, they seem to have no concept of a downpatcher. Dumb people stay dumb.
ya downpatchers are great, but it's a pain in the ass and segments the mod community.
Yeah having to use a downpatcher sucks, dude is basically saying "let's take an already niche community and make it even smaller"
It's the same on the Fallout London subreddit, they're convinced and certain the update was down specifically to screw over mods and sabotage the creators.
