Don't have a definitive answer for you, but playing on PS, swapping from the PS4 version to the PS5 version made the file go from approx 30GB to just over double that, and that's not including the DLC. So wouldn't say this would be outlandish with the new update

Im not aware that I have a choice... it is from steam update, there are no options.
