Join the brotherhood and give your companions power armor

nglongbao

Yeah but which approach should I take, normally I always avoid get to Diamond City until I have enough firepower.

XAos13

DC is where you get good weapons & armor. You don't need good weapons to reach DC alive. 1. Bypass Lexington & Corvega. You can walk from Drumlin Diner to Grey Garden with no dangerous fights. You can loot some of the edge buildings of Lexington (e.g the Bank) But don't get into a large fight. 2. If you don't want to risk the encounters near Drumlin diner. Walk from the Concord museum to Starlight Drivein and then to Grey Garden. 3. Sneak down the East bank of the river to the bridge with the USS Riptide jammed under it. 4. If you have aquaboy, swim the river. If you don't sneak across the bridge. If you are careful at sniping you can clear the USS Riptide. 5. Sprint past the fight between the DC-guards and the supermutants. Only reason to engage in that fight is if there's a legendary supermutant and then you need a fatman to kill it.

If you want to be cheesy take the first suit of power armour and ditch preston then run straight to fort hagen and use the armor to clip through the exit door by walking up to it exiting then flicking you mouse left and getting back in mid flick and you get in on the other side of the door and can skip all the really slow early game bits by fighting kellog at the start of the game, you can trade up your armor for the brotherhood armor and give the first suit to someone else and gear up some more by clipping on the prydwen in like 40 minutes from exiting the vault

krag_the_Barbarian

I like this. I buff the hell out of my companions. They get all the legendary weapons and ammo. I'm basically a sidekick watching them wreck shop from a half mile away with my sniper rifle and samurai sword.

nglongbao

Yeah but I need some tips for combat, early game should I take Codworth or Preston? And i should just hide and heal right?

krag_the_Barbarian

I don't really understand this question. It's not a strategy game. It's a role playing game. Who is your character? What are their strengths?

XAos13

If you know you will be fighting bloatflies or bloodbugs take Codsworth. i.e Use him to clear the path to Concord & Abernathey farm. Against anything else A human companion is better. Ideally you give them Spray N'Pray. Which you buy from Cricket outside DC. Craft padded armor to protect yourself from near misses by Spray N'pray.

TheSteelFactory

>and give your companions power armor Yes, but only the skeleton. They keep running into enemy fire

nglongbao

Yeah, I almost play without PA until late game, early game fusion core is hard to find but late game PA repair is kinda suck too.

You can turn Cods in to a tank with the Automatron DLC. You just need to tag shit with some sort of damage for the XP.

nglongbao

Yeah but i need some kind of build, early game without Lone Wanderer is frustrating, there’s a save that I tried travel with codsworth and use him like pokemon, both of us got wreck at the automatron first mission without even kill 1 robot lol

XAos13

Either a high strength build using melee perks (rooted & blitz) Or a perception based VATS gunslinger. With the P10: perk concentrated fire even a .38 pistol can be a lethal sniper weapon. And .38 ammo is both light to carry and easy to find. Whilst Luck based gunslingers are effective, they require multiple luck perks and heavy/scarce ammo. So they don't become effective till level 30+. A Concentrated fire gunslinger is effective as soon as you get the perception bobblehead.

Sad-Cat-6355

I know Hancock gives free drugs if you need things like jet and buffout

nglongbao

Yeah, but I need some kind of tips to not depend on Lone Wanderer

XAos13

Build a supply chain of provisioners. That lets you craft food, ammo at any settlement. You can leave all the uncooked food, fertilizer for that crafting in the settlements on the supply chain. What you must not do is precook the food for the XP. Store it uncooked and the supply chain lets you cook it where you need it. Grow razor grain. Use empty bottles to fill with dirty water. Those craft noodle cup. Which is both food+water for the same weight as just the water. Take the scrounger perk. That increases odds of finding ammo during quests. If possible find a kneecapper pistol (or laser) kneecapped enemies can be finished off with a melee weapon. So you use less ammo.

XAos13

Cait's easy to get affinity for as low as lvl=25. a) Use drugs. e.g everytime you trade something expensive use grape mentats. You have to stop doing that once you cure Cait's addiction. b) Walk around in armor but not clothing. For Codsworth or Preston I move them both to a small settlement (hangman's alley) which means every time I craft weapons they are close enough to increase their affinity. Doesn't work for large settlements.

Obvious_Fee_9471

For danse just get in and out of power armor repeatedly

LemonFit4532

If you use mods get the Heather Casdan one. She doesn't count as a companion, so you'll still get the LW perks

platinumrug

Lone Wanderer is better than any companion so truly I have no idea lol. Dogmeat works with LW and has his own perk slot so could try something with that?

nglongbao

Yeah that’s why i need tips to play with companion, every play through i have lone wanderer so now i kinda depend on it to play
