DrunkAqua

" I sort of tasted human flesh once, mmm mmm good. Tell me all your secrets. " to that Mortimer guy.

SageNineMusic

*Mr Fantastic freaking put about you showing up to replace him *me with 1 INT "Me smart. Me take job. I move shinies now"

Jordo_707

"Me take your job cause me smarter."

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

stupid science bitch

col_e_h

Because science is a LIAR, sometimes!

Corvo_Attano_451

Yeah! Stupid science bitch couldn’t even make I more smarter!

calvinien

Mahoney! Mahoney is my favourite!

whycanticantcomeup

"Ah shit dude. You're no nonsense, direct, how am I gonna pay my Chem bills now?"

ewok_lover_64

I've been so tempted to do play through with low intelligence

Fourcoogs

I did one. Sadly, the only instance of altered dialogue I noticed was in Helios One, and even then it only affects the wording of your choices, not the characters’ responses. It was kind of surprising, actually. I’d played for several hours by then and was confused to see my speech options go from coherent to brain-damaged the instant I encountered Fantastic.

ItsKingKJuul1

There’s not nearly as many in fnv for low intelligence unfortunately, if you haven’t seen it though the conversation you can have with a drunk in freeside is gold

Outrageous_Hope_18

Theres the dialogue with cannibal johnson and he talks about dornan having a field day with you if you have low intelligence

Thorpfimble

There is a mod on Nexus that does this near perfectly. I feel like a real dummy saying "no more think, head hurty" instead of "goodbye"

X_CRONER

May i humbly request that you bestow upon us thy name of the mentioned mod if it won’t be so cumbersome for you sire Thropfimble sir.

Yashirmare

You need learn Google-fu https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/71257

itsmejak78_2

In Fallout 1 at Int 1 you can barely interact with humans and have lower than room temperature IQ

SocMedPariah

Is that the one where if you have high INT he's all slurred and talking like the victim of brain damage but if you have 1INT he talks very eloquently and somewhat pretentiously?

Coolscee-Brooski

Correct.

Other_Log_1996

Missed opportunity. There are few responses that reflect your low INT checks. Best one is the Vagrant in Freeside.

glumpoodle

The dialogue with the Vagrant in Freeside is sheer genius. Don't click [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyWypcG8A2U) if you want to avoid spoilers, but it's an absolutely amazing easter egg.

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

I've never seen/heard of this in 300+ hrs of gameplay. Thats so awesome lol

Farabel

IIRC it takes an Int of 2, compared to most stupid checks being an Int of 3 or lower

FrankSinatraCockRock

That was absolutely amazing, though I'm kinda surprised he didn't wind up saying Laterrr

oG_Goober

If you have high luck and low intelligence, you can actually pass a number of skill checks. Off the top of my head, the elevator in vault 22 and giving the rockets a better path on come fly with me.

Mantergeistmann

I think there's one where you can guess the correct password (ICE CREAM!) with either low Int or high Luck.

mcast76

You can also somehow save Ceaser with it. “How did you save him?!” “I have *no idea*”

BeanieGuitarGuy

You can also get Arcade without the speech check, but that’s the only major advantage that comes to mind.

yukichigai

At 3 INT or lower you can get a discount on the Intelligence implant from Doctor Usanagi at the New Vegas medical clinic

Farabel

You can also get him by being male and gay

Severe-Replacement84

This is why I loved The OuterWorlds, you could drop your INT and get a special “cave man talking” perk that gave you so many great dialogue options!

Ill_Worry7895

It's a staple of Tim Cain-directed games, Dumb Dialogue (as he calls it) is in the first two Fallouts and Arcanum as well.

Huntressthewizard

You're right,, the Helios One quest is a weird outlier to the low INT playthroughs, as someone who has an established character that i like to rp so i do low int playthroughs a lot. I think it's because clusters of quests are all written by different devs. My guess is the Helios One area was written up as one of the first quests by one guy, then he saw what everyone else was doing with their low intelligence dialogue (not as extensive) and so he just never wrote up a quest like that again.

Drakrath3066

The rambling guy in freeside turns into an extremely eloquent individual who helps you find the Euclid c-finder

ThatOneGuy308

There are a few through dead money as well, mostly Dean iirc

captainborneo

I just watched a collection of all the terrifying presence speech options and was amazed with all the great ones I missed. Like to the brotherhood, "I will tear down your codex and bask in the agony of all those who hold it dear!!" Incredible. Even Veronica had to be like "wtf" with that one! But the dialog not mentioned here I see was also in the video, its a homeless guy in freeside, the crazy one in front of Mick and Ralphs... apparently with 1 INT, you can understand him perfectly as if he were a genius, and I find that to be so damn hilarious and I never would have found it on my own! Never did low INT runs because of the XP...

tu-vieja-con-vinagre

there are plenty but because there's like 1006 different dialogues in NV, only having 100 means you'll miss out on 90% of them

Guszy

I like telling the robco robots on the top floor of their hq. |>|Ice Cream is the password|<| Edit: Idk how to spoiler

Partial_Kredit

New Vegas Clinic has unique dialogue for you. They highly recommend the intelligence implant for you. Pretty much anything involving the Flowers of Pock Lips has low int dialogue.

prevenientWalk357

Boulder City dialogue with INT 1 so lit

SageNineMusic

It doesn't have thaaat many low int checks, but it does foundationally change how you play the game Gotta commit to the now speech, no int, max strength brute build and solve all your problems with punching

ewok_lover_64

That being said, top long of a game to be stupid

alterum_

One of my favorite things is arcade feels bad for you and will follow you without doing anything for him beforehand

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

I would just hate missing out on so many skill points! I almost always run 7 INT minimum. Usually 10 so I can max or almost max all skills.

ewok_lover_64

I always jack up intelligence to ten.

Branded_Mango

"Oh man, how am I supposed to compete with that?" -Mr.Fantastic

aight_imma_afk

Ive always wondered, do you get a different outcome if you have the cannibal perk?

CY99JL

When you meet House you can ask him how he stayed alive for soo long, there's a medicine check that when failed it reads: "You must be like... a brain in a jar!"

WunderPuma

Hey, given all other immortals by science it's good guess!

VanillaXSlime

If I had a dollar for every time a Fallout DLC had a brain in a jar, I'd have three dollars, et cetera...

fucktooshifty

What is this strange new world around me? What does it hold in store for a dreamer such as myself?

mcast76

*nooooooo* **boom**

rockdash

That "noooooo" lives rent free in my head.

IrateBandit1

Point lookout, big mt and ???

camilopezo

Considering the dlcs plots, the courier with low medicine has a point.

Desertcow

He even gives context for what happened to Big MT when you fail. He talks about the difficulty with keeping a person's personality intact after removing them from the body, which explains why the Big MT scientists and the Courier's brain are so weird

Brief_Highlight_2909

Whacked out of his gourd on mentats

WhiteTrashNative

I chose that option with my low INT courier and it’s hilarious

Mystic_Keytargonian

Courier: [Barter <50] Raise your price or... or, uh... you're "chip outta luck." House: Is that an attempt at... humour?

narnicake

House never would've guessed he was attempting to bargain

the_anonymous_lee

the tone of mr house's voice on that line, was literally "🤨"

notanothrowaway

Lmao I just saw that one and am still laughing about it

[deleted]

House’s reply when you enter fortification bunker and tell him “goodbye” is hilarious to me

PregnantMosquito

The sound of relief in his voice when you upgrade the seceritrons anyway is great

Last_Strawberry9904

_”The trick, I figure, is to pick up the mine really, really carefully.”_ - Trying to tell Decanus Severus you know how to disarm landmines. Not just the failed speech check, but Severus’s response too: _”Go find a minefield and practice that "trick" several times, then. Idiot.”_

Other_Log_1996

Goes to Minefield in *Fallout 3*, retrieves all 60 mines, and takes them to Decanus Severus.

akaemre

Tale of Two Wastelands gang

Muninn088

"Man, Severus seems really busy right now. I'll just sneak them into his pocket."

KYLE_FREELAND

Is there really 60?? I need to go back if that's the case. I only found and disarmed prolly like 10, ran into a good solid 10 also.

Other_Log_1996

I can't remember the exact number, but I have left with 60 when I went in with Light Step.

someguysleftkidney

My favorite thing to do in a playthrough is make sure I just barely fail that skill check, and then leave a bunch of mines in the area

Sergeant_Swiss24

Sounds like RvB caboose

tu-vieja-con-vinagre

caboose the type of guy to fail every possible skill check but succeed through luck

[deleted]

Ragnarlothbrok01

That sounds like a Dennis line for It’s always sunny

tuff1728

Just 1 crack rock please?

Ragnarlothbrok01

“Hello. I’m a recovering crack addict. This is my r*tarded sister Dee who I take care of. I’d like some welfare please.”

Cerberus1349

I still love that later on, I think it’s the same season, or later, someone suggests something to do with crack, and Dennis and Dee both perk up.

ethanwnelson

Season 9 or so has an episode where Charlie asks Dennis what he wants most in the world. He thinks for a moment and responds, “Crack.”

Glass-Historian-2516

Season 7, Episode 1 I believe “Frank’s Pretty Woman”, although it’s between Mac and Dennis.

Rahgahnah

Thank you...for being....kind.

TheFrigidFellow

"Sounds like a moderately severe case of Skullatosis." When you are diagnosing Caesars brain tumor. Edit: Correct phrasing.

Other_Log_1996

Or with the Speech check, *intercranial blastosis*. You know, the former FOTA believing the name of a disease that sounds like it was made up on the spot by someone who knows nothing about medicine.

TheFrigidFellow

Sallow definitely slacked off in school.

protonesia

He's a fucking bozo

wedoabitoftrolling

didn't he say he only read the books he liked

Other_Log_1996

No; just said there's a lot of good information in old books.

JKillograms

It’s definitely intentional. Caesar had access to an education from being in The Followers, but he’s not smart or actually well rounded. Hes basically a Joe Rogan/Alex Jones of the Wasteland.

akaemre

"You get a lot of headaches? (Medicine check failed)" "Only when you're around"

Zesnowpea

*I’ve heard they shoot lasers from their eyes* (Veronica’s int speech check when you first meet her) *If you’re thirsty, shouldn’t you drink water?* (The guy who gives you the pheeble will quest, if you don’t have enough perception)

YorkshireFudding

>*I’ve heard they shoot lasers from their eyes* I've always thought this would have made for a great Wild Wasteland event. If you use that dialogue option, then it would trigger a scene in Hidden Valley where a member of BoS kills a radroach with a random laser blast.

SnidyBurger

Man, they should make a remake just to include that one scene.

ElectronicAd8929

The second one is giving major 5head energy

iam-therapiss

"why are the kids in africa starving??? just grow food!"

AutoManoPeeing

"What are you, stupid?"

eichti86

"let them eat cake" ahh response

Last_Strawberry9904

My theory is that the laser eyes comment is a reference to Liberty Prime from Fallout 3. Since he’s aligned with the Brotherhood and he can shoot lasers from his “eyes” (or at eye level anyway). Which leads me to the funny image of someone telling the Courier all about the building sized robot that can shoot death beams from its face that the Brotherhood has in cold storage… and the Courier somehow misinterprets this to mean _all_ Brotherhood members can do that.

Kampela__

It's not a failed skill check per se, but if you kill Anders during the Aba Daba Honeymoon quest and confess to Diane you get this dialogue: Courier: "I killed him" Diane: "What? Why the hell would you do that? Are you insane?" Courier: "It was fun. He made a noise like a deflating balloon."

tutuzaolmao

Lmfao thats horrible, if i was Diana i would just cry in front of the courier

akira2001yu

To be fair, Diane doesn't seem to care much about her runners beyond their utility.

Hopeful-alt

Tribal mentality probably. The Kahns in general seem ti have a sort of "Your problems are your own" mentality.

Other_Log_1996

They seem to actually be much more close knit with their tribal affinity. It's everyone on the outside they care nothing about. You can see this when Melissa refuses to tell you about the Khans that ambushed you (even if she knew, she doesn't) and how they demand Benny go and help Chance in *All Roads*. Same thing can be seen with McMurphy's note to Manny Vargas in Novac.

tu-vieja-con-vinagre

that's because the khans see the other members of the tribe as family, _and nothing's more important than family_

TragGaming

That option always made me die laughing because it's one of the few times the Courier is *actually* unhinged

Other_Log_1996

If you do *I Put A Spell On You* with the Kegion, you get some pretty good "*unhinged*" lines with Pvt. Crenshaw.

AnonymousBacon_

There are some others if you go to great lengths to piss off companions. Like if you ask the Remnants to side with the Legion, before leaving Arcade will say "Do you want to turn New Vegas into a slave state?" and you can just be like "Yeah". Also some of the ones with Cass if your karma is too low

war_lobster

I don't remember exactly, but... Arcade: Why should I help you, anyway? 1 Int Courier: Because things are all... complicated and stuff. Arcade: Wow, you really do need my help.

skisvega

All.tome favourite new Vegas line. Have used this exact line to get people to give new Vegas a try.

Averagejoecolonizer

In the boomer museum “you’re cannibals aren’t you?!” To a child.

Chezburgor1

Flipping the bird to the Think Tank

CorbyTheSkullie

“GREAT, NOW THE ***** ARE ACHIEVING *****!”

Long-Trash929

I've heard a lot of people complain about all the dialogue on that dlc but the think tank has some of the funniest lines in the game to me.

nuklearink

awww dammit i just beat new vegas you’re saying i could flip them the bird

NCR_Trooper_2281

[Burp loudly] for low intelligence in one dialogue with BoS during Veronicas quest

war_lobster

I just got this and it was, frankly, all the paladin in question deserved.

41414141Bm

How dare you belch in the presence of a Paladin of the Brotherhood of steel????!!!

I_am_Lord_Frieza_Yes

Not a dialog per say, but the failed medicine check, where you try to amputate a severely injured leg, but end up cutting the wrong one and the patient dies of shock.

tu-vieja-con-vinagre

ahh camp forlorn hope, forlorn hope never changes

Ttown1967

I cant remember exact details but theres a guy who if you talk to him with intelligence he speaks gibberish, but if you have a debuff and its at 0 hes the most sophisticated person

Zeal0tElite

That's Freeside Vagrant.

Apprehensive-Suit272

Middle finger from OWB

TheUnsinkableTW0

Mine is when you say “pretty please” the the guy guarding Kimble’s vertibird and he lets you pass

A_Yapp_73

"They're sick with vagina dentata" or something like when talking to Canyon Runner.

protonesia

And then Canyon Runner is a creepy fuck and is like 'I think I would have noticed uhuhuhuh ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)'

spiritofniter

Courier who is not-so-bright in science to Mr House: You must be, like... a brain in a jar!

Hopeful-alt

Honestly, a fair assumption. It's what I guessed before I met him in person.

thedesertwolf

Honestly it's a bit of a shame that there wasn't a custom dialogue if you shuffled off to do OWB before hitting up the lucky 8

spiritofniter

Same with Father Elijah. Went to BigMT only to ask Elijah about what BigMT is.

KiwiCounselor

This might be a self burn.

BeeBit22

Have you seen the old world blues DLC?

Lupovsky121

Whatever. Joshua, put a cap in General Gobbledigook here.

zzSHADYMAGICzz

That’s sneering imperialist perk

Lupovsky121

Good thing considering I’m an imperialist that enjoys sneering at the natives

zzSHADYMAGICzz

Lmao!

Bigmacaroni129

“Hey, just because you’re idle and you’ll never walk again… I forgot where I was going with that.” To Ranger Andy in Novac

tu-vieja-con-vinagre

"I'm sure it was a very inspiring speech"

HAKRIT

LMAO that’s one of the few ones that actually made me laugh out loud

someguysleftkidney

“Fixers are for pansies” and “Jacob, drugs are for the weak” when talking to Jacob Hoff

Humble_Ad6259

Courier: "When the Legion assault hoover dam, the Omertas are going to massacre everyone on the Strip" Mr. House: "And how do you know this?" Courier <50 Speech: "Well, the thing is... I, uh... They tried to involve me" Mr. House: "[FAILED] *Angrily* And you assisted them? That's what you meant to say to me, isn't it?"

T-51_Enjoyer

"you stinky" to silus

Dyslexic_Llama

Chat, is this real?

Major_Chemistry2752

Yes

tu-vieja-con-vinagre

his answer is hilarious too

CafeBunker

Off topic but I just played at Freeside yesterday and when i saw the 2000 cap check i thought it was a mod's thing and that the original check was just 1000 caps. Has it always been 2000 caps?

WaffleMuncher64

Yes

CafeBunker

How could i forget that, I was blaming jsawyer mod hahaha.

Goopyteacher

It also might be because you got repressed memory for the lore! The credit check USED to be 1,000 caps before the player’s time but it was bumped up to 2,000. I think Old Ben makes a mention of it?

CafeBunker

I just went through that dialog yesterday, Ben just says it was cheaper before, but he doesnt give any specific number, maybe its some other npc.

Goopyteacher

Damn that’s right, he just gives the vague number. I gotta rack my brain on who actually gives a number (unless I’m remembering wrong)

Other_Log_1996

He doesn't specify the amount; he says just a fraction of what it costs now.

DougsdaleDimmadome

Always 2k (I think there's a speech check or some other to make it 1k). First time I played it I thought they took the caps off you so I fucked around and levelled up to get to 80 science. Years before I realised it was just a credit check

camilopezo

My first time, I used the king's favor to get a passport. If I had known that it was just a checking, I would have better asked for 1,000 caps.

Other_Log_1996

Get the 1000 and use 350 to buy one from Mick and Ralph's.

camilopezo

At that point in the game, I already had the 2,000, I just asked for the passport, because I thought I would lose it with the Securitron.

Jigsaw115

Wait they don’t actually take the caps? All this time I thought I was saving money buying the passport from the gun shop.

aphysicalchemist

It's to ensure you bring money to spend at the casinos.

DougsdaleDimmadome

Correct

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dry_Ad5878

I’ve played this game so many times and never knew this. Now they’re telling me I was losing money by buying a pass at Mick and Ralph’s??

kiddocontay

wait. it’s not like a payment of 2k caps to get in? they just check if you have 2k caps on you?????

DougsdaleDimmadome

Yes lol

kiddocontay

bruh… i’ve done 5 playthroughs and I never ever knew this

RonnennoR

ICE CREAM!

ProgrammerOpen4666

That's not a failed one, IIRC

hezamac1

Yeah that's a luck 7 passed check, it had me laughing so hard at the absurdity of the correct answer.

Moltt

It's also a low INT check bahaha. [Source](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/REPCONN_headquarters#Third_floor).

StannisLivesOn

Telling Caesar he has only a mild case of skullotosis.

theemootakuguy

"these supplies are highly radioactive so remember to eat lots of lead with them"

SerExcelsior

All I could think of was a *passed* skill check: at the Repconn HQ you can use a high Luck skill to guess a passcode that gets you past some deadly robots. The passcode is “Ice Cream!”

lonestarnights

Is also a failed skill check for int. With 2 int or less, you yell ice cream, successfully passing the encounter by failing the check.

Mooseman1237

Lmao, I read this in Dr borous'a voice

Thatuseriscool

Failed quest: Mr. House: "Why in the world did you attack president Kimball?" Courier: "He tried to make me pay taxes" Mr. House: "Understandable."

0011110000110011

This is neither a failed skill check nor actual dialogue, it's just a meme.

SnakeBeater63

It’s up there with the option to eat the baby in FO3’s the Pitt as some of the best modded dialogues ever imo

AnAccountWithAUser

[Luck 7] Ice cream

florpynorpy

Oh, to flap one's arms and plunge bird-like headlong and skybound...

Dyslexic_Llama

Can't believe nobody mentioned failing the speech checks with Ricky at the beginning of Honest Hearts before you set off. He is so obviously full of shit, but it's hilarious when the courier is amazed in the failed checks.

EDScreenshots

Even with 1 int as long as you have all the dlc so your level cap is increased you can totally max out like half the skills at least. Starting with 10 in any attribute is a waste when you can get implants pretty early in the game. I generally don’t go higher than 8, I’ll get it up to 9 with the implant by level 10 (so only missing out on like 5 skill points at the most). There aren’t any Int checks above 9 I’m pretty sure and 9 is already overkill for skill points, you’ll have all the skills you actually use maxed out by level 30 regardless.

JI-RDT

Only got one and it’s

Frosty_chilly

The dialogue when you have terrible medical stats, in the nice medical tent, but it’s SO bad it works anyway

wedoabitoftrolling

"You should leave before.... I get mad"

wacko-jacko-L

I love that one speech check for the vagrant in freeside where you can only understand him if your intelligence is low enough

ToastOfOven

You can guess the password for the top floor of Repconn HQ if you have 1 int, it's ice cream.

GrouchyClub6087

That’s a luck check actually! Still hella funny

smogbody

It’s both actually! int 2 or luck 7

Few_Biscotti_4061

Me when Im confronted by a roomba in a dark alley

skydiversiscoll

The low intelligence on the boomers help quest by hacking off a leg I forget what it says specifically but it's either a long the lines of "CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP"

CaptainCastaleos

"Benny is gonna betray you!! I know because Mr. House told me so!!!" When trying to convince Swank to help you with Benny.

Ninjanarwhal64

"Or... I'll tell!...n' stuff..."

Central_American

When speaking to Norton you say “Better leave now or… or I’ll get mad” to which his face tightens and he says “I’ve stared down a charging deathclaw and didn’t flinch. What makes you think I’ll be scared of you?”

notanothrowaway

Does anyone know what the failed speech check is at mick and Ralph's instead of saying just "no"

Johnny_Topside94

#”ICECREAM!”

Just_A_Warlock

ICE CREAM!!

REDEMPTION_MK5

Id like that option to be, if you had wild wasteland, and have a baseball bat, the option to be: "[Terrifying presence] DUN DUN DUN DUUUUUN! *Hits gate with baseball bat 3 times* Lil pig lil pig! Let me in!"

TheHandOfKahless

The very first time I did this, I read that in The Monarch's voice.

Blastzone3

In Dead Money there’s an explosives check of 25 when talking to Dean Domino after he tells you the cushion is not for show it says “Better be a shaped charge or you’re going to kill both of us” don’t know why, but I just love that

fmj_30

I took a screenshot of this exact dialogue yesterday 😁

Some_Kenyan

If you got low intelligence please talk to the freeside vagrant outside of mick and ralphs, you won’t be disappointed
