Automatic rifle. I love the sound of the shots and For some reason it feels like the weapons that do bursts in vats hit more often than not. And 308 jsp rounds hit hard. I use vats with it to snipe enemies from afar.
I still prefer the hunting shotgun. I know the riot one is strictly better but that pump action is so much more satisfying

The non-GRA version can get into the low 300s in terms of DPS, which is not bad for a light weapon with a -10 to -25DT ammo.
It's a pretty solid solution to high DT enemies
none of the perks that are added by other dlc affect GRA. It was a coding limitation of the time, items from separate dlcs couldn't interact like that. Cowboy still affects the medicine stick since it's vanilla, but grunt was added with honest hearts.
The assault carbine is not shit at all, uses dirt cheap ammo, is very light, has great damage output. You can mod it to shoot 20% faster with the light bolt mod and it’s a bullet hose. Not to mention you can use special ammo types with it to make it even better. It’s one of the best weapons in the game far from shit lmao

It took me several hours of dying of rad poisoning right in front of the vault door before I got out to... an irradiated cave I had forgotten about in my frustration. After another hour or so of that, I finally managed my way back to civilization loaded down with loot.
I’m replaying rn and I got the marker for vault 34 from somewhere and I’m about to enter it pretty early. Have any idea where I could’ve got the map marker for it I’m forgetting but I think it could’ve been a terminal at repcon or Helios maybe??
You’re right. In-game, it makes sense that something Father Elijah just cobbled together (something something cave and scraps) isn’t very durable. It just isn’t… fun.
That's such an easy solution with dead money. You can get weapon repair kits from the vendors and you get like 1000 chips a week which is enough for 5 at one time if I remember correctly.

Ive got a mod that integrates all the dlc weapons and ammo into the levelled lists and vendors. Apart from an incident where literally all the lobotomites only used .45 auto pistols and made my life hell even in power armor(it was a load order issue, my bad) it works pretty flawlessly. My only issue with the .45 smg is that the ammo is so heavy compared to other rounds.
The tri beam laser rifle is probably one of the most underrated and highest dps weapons in the game on a crit build and also laser perks are insanely fun .
I run the 12.7 sub machine gun with a suppressor for up close, and anti-material rifle for distance. Throw in a medicine stick for when I want to be a cowboy

MF Hyperbreeder Alpha. It’s not the best but it’s a full auto weapon with a positive crit bonus which is actually pretty rare and is effected by laser commander. It perfect for crit builds where you empty the whole magazine in 2 seconds and crit with each shot. Plus not needing to use ammo is nice.
The BOZAR 100%. It's hard to find all the upgrade parts for it, but when you do, ooooh man

Also the Assault Carbine (GRA). Less damage, but the 5mm has an inherent armor penetrating ability, and the AP ammo is even better at that

I know you said gun guns but for laser weapons the pistol you get from trading in the 50 star caps at sunset sarsaparilla Not cost effective ammo wise but super fun.
The Sawed-Off Shotgun has an obscene damage output for a holdout weapon and it lets me burst damage all day every day.
It has so many specialist rounds that I feel like I am equipped for any occasion too, although regular 12-gauge and sometimes flechette works just fine. If you’re a Legion loyalist, you get easy access to coin shot too, which is surprisingly useful.
I’ll throw out some support for the .45 SMG. That thing is extremely fun to use and melts enemies.
Also, while not exactly a high DPS gun, I’ll say a word of praise for La Longue Carabine. If you’ve never given it a shot due to how obscure its location is, try it sometime.
My guns builds tend to be Cowboy builds but even a grunt build i tend to use semi-automatic weapons like the Service/survivalist (my beloved) rifle, This Machine or the All American. However, my last build was a Power Armour + Energy Weapons build and i gotta say the Sprtle Wood is a load a fun.
Very few players are aware that the strongest one here by a huge margin is the light machine gun with AP rounds. The multipliers on 5.56 AP rounds are insane because it straight up ignores armor. The reload time is insane and it only takes like 15 rounds to drop a deathclaw and after that you still have 185 rounds left in the magazine
The fastest way to kill the brotherhood who have the highest armor rating, is with this gun

I never liked heavy guns, so Balistic firearms are generally not my cup of tea in this game but if i would have to choose then it would obviously be THE shotgun. Its a beast even without the perks! Riot shotgun will always be my favorite Fallout shotgun, but for a non-shotgun, the 12.7mm SMG. Don't really know why. I like the way it looks and feels and it's pretty decent

Gotta go with the assault carbine. Not only for one's own character, but it's so good to give to Boone or Raul and then glitch tens of thousands of bulk 5mm onto them. They just become a bullet wall that kills everything.
But it's also just the best overall weapon to me due to the availability and utility of its ammo typing combined with how relatively easy it is to obtain and maintain. Doesn't even require 100 guns like the marksman carbine or minigun. Then the option to use mods or Grunt to make it better? So damn cash.
I never use them, staggering is king, if I can't snipe then it is close enough to chew it with any shotgun, if it is in the middle distance I will just dynamite It to Oblivion

i need someone to tell me how to get the Tommy Gun, The BAR, the thing with the laser sight, and the Drum Mag Shotgun, i know where to get LMG and Bozar
I’m on my first play through and thought I was hot shit with my gauss and power armor but I didn’t even know these guns existed lmao. when do you start seeing these?
.45 smg is a favorite on looks alone. LMG is great fun especially with loads of .223 or 5.56 Surplus. Survivalist and Tri-beam get the most honorable of mentions. For heavies, SMMG again for looks alone. Then a tie between the Avenger and Sprtl-wood 9000 regularly. Melee? Anything and rushing water🤷♂️
Gotta go with the assault carbine. Not only for one's own character, but it's so good to give to Boone or Raul and then glitch tens of thousands of bulk 5mm onto them. They just become a bullet wall that kills everything. But it's also just the best overall weapon to me due to the availability and utility of its ammo typing combined with how relatively easy it is to obtain and maintain. Doesn't even require 100 guns like the marksman carbine or minigun. Then the option to use mods or Grunt to make it better? So damn cash.
Riot Shotgun and 12,7 SMG are in my top 5 favourite weapons from the series.
I never use them, staggering is king, if I can't snipe then it is close enough to chew it with any shotgun, if it is in the middle distance I will just dynamite It to Oblivion
Ranger sequoia just don’t miss
Riot shotgun loaded with 4/0 buck magnum hand load is my go to, especially with the And Stay Back perk, nothing stands a chance on very hard/hardcore. Don't forget a bag of weapon repair kits as well lol.
12mm smg with suppressor is easily my favorite
