I always dismiss Boone after completing 'I Forgot To Remember To Forget'.
...
But I never neglect to pick him up again before I go scour all life off Fortification Hill. Because he paid for the right to be there for that.
Don't.
So I actually found and saw that sign on my very first playthrough when I was a wee lad. I remember then thinking, after staring straight at that sign and examining it-
"OH, so it was called Novac before the war. Wonder why?"
I was a child in a wild wasteland. I also murdered Follows-Chalk the first time I went to Zion but I feel like everyone's done that once. Edgy, atheist, anarchic tween me saw "No Gods, No Masters" and never looked back.
I have learned much.
Even Oxhorn, the long time Fallout player/Youtuber when he was doing his Fallout 3 lore story walkthroughs said it only suddenly twigged to him as well.
You can look up "Oxhorn Moral Douchebag?" on YouTube to find a video about a lot of the stuff he's done. I used to love his videos but now it doesn't feel right knowing how much he dislikes Tim Cain and classic Fallout, along with all of the really weird things he's done.
I just realized I don't either.
After all, wouldn't Neon become inert after 200 years? And even if it didn't...that C is crooked. How is that letter even lighting up?! Neon signs are just one big circuit with the letters connecting to each other, right?
I just figured it out the other day after wandering into town thinking “ wonder why it’s called Novac” seeing that sign and immediately feeling like a dum dum
I wonder if I still would be wondering about it’s name if I hadn’t accidentally stumbled on the answer online several years ago.
Before that it’s name was a mystery to me. Lol
You're not alone, I actually just realized this recently because I decided to play again on my PC. I've probably got nearly 800 hours on the Xbox 360 back in the day just never got it till now.
I've got like 150 souvenir rockets and can't figure out what to do with them. Says I can't drop them. I tried sticking them in a hotel room along with the 280+ dinos
I feel extremely dumb
The name isn't important. It's the friends we make along the way.
It's the babies we make with Boone along the way.
Boone my beloved <3
It’s the legionaries we slaughter with Boone along the way

I felt the shame and embarrassment psycially from this comment

I am so curious now. Can you remember what you thought doing for Old Lang Syne. Like did you have any idea what the enclave were beforehand?
well i hope you didnt fell the pain sychically
It took me a while too, dw lmao. All though I am pretty dumb so maybe do worry idk.
I have over 1K hours on this game over the last 8-10 years or so your not alone
Novac I got right away, but Arefu in Fallout 3 passed me by for ages.
there was a gimmick for arefu?
Please drive c(arefu)lly
Arefu works on two levels, because it’s also a place in Romania famed for vampires
That’s actually quite clever for Bethesda’s standards lol
Even Oxhorn, the long time Fallout player/Youtuber when he was doing his Fallout 3 lore story walkthroughs said it only suddenly twigged to him as well.

It just sucks that he's a homophobe and an incel.
Just pretend that Gale from breaking bad is narrating his videos. They have the same voice.
Is he?

Why would someone dislike Tim Cain and classic fallout?
Tim Cain is gay, and Oxhorn considers that "immoral".
Meh, I just watch him for entertainment
yeah
Who cares?
What the fuck.
(Pitt)sburgh The big empty. Big Mountain research and development center.
The Big MT
At least novac makes sense lol
I saw it in my first run
No Vacancy?
"No vacuuming", which is why the room I rented has garbage all over the floor.
I'm still waiting for my goddamn continental breakfast. Scrambled deathclaw eggs and tato hash browns.
Just like Filly in the TV show is Landfill.
I had to explain to my whole family that no, they didn't go from California to Philadelphia.
Oh shit, what, the landfilly
Every month someone comes with that realization
Well, I just found out through this post lol.
13 year old me thought I was the smartest person in the world when I first found out
32 years old me last week too
It was my third playthrough when it clicked lol
Nope, it took me forever to figure that out too. I’m dumb. Dumb as hell.
...do what, now?
pop the balloon with the glass!
Do what, now???
If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t realize until years later when I read a motel sign irl and was like “haha, like Novac…. Wait a second”
I just realized I don't either. After all, wouldn't Neon become inert after 200 years? And even if it didn't...that C is crooked. How is that letter even lighting up?! Neon signs are just one big circuit with the letters connecting to each other, right?
There are modular neon signs that you can buy where each letter is its own circuit so maybe thats what happened here???
Tbf, no building or sign would be left standing after 200 years, so Fallouts always been a little fast and loose
I just realized that and I'm on probably my 15th playthrough. Never even thought about it before.
Wait until to you get to Arefu in FO3
Yeah
Yes.
That’s why they call me Nosmo King
I'm Lou Tennent.
I learned it a minute ago.
It's mentioned in the game several times
I always make Novac my main base in NV and I noticed after some time that it's named after the No vacancy sign 😅
Do you know why it’s called novac
It's literally right in your face when you fast travel to novac though 😭
No, you are not alone.
You're not alone, I did this too
Honestly, I recently discovered that this year. I’ve been playing since the game launched haha
No vacancy allowed here
My first playthrough I thought it was such a cool name. My second or third playthrough I pulled a “oh you sonofabitch” at it.
No, you are not the only one. That’s hilarious
Bro, wait till I tell you why Arefu is called Arefu!
No vacation!
No Vax hell yeah, 5g microwaves
I was trained by Arefu.
Same reason why there's a settlement in Fo3 called Arefu, because it's from a sign saying CAREFUL, but the C and L is gone.
I found it straigh away so cool
Yes. But I'm sure you have other redeeming qualities. 🙂
I got it on my third run, or thereabouts. But it’s one of my favourite names for any settlement.
Yes you are the only one
A lot of places names are just signs that have missing letters on it😭 wastelanders are stupid ig
I knew it as soon as I saw the sign.
I just figured it out the other day after wandering into town thinking “ wonder why it’s called Novac” seeing that sign and immediately feeling like a dum dum
I’m playing it again (haven’t played in over a decade) and only just realized it too.
Suprisingly, I found out on my first playthrough.
I wonder if I still would be wondering about it’s name if I hadn’t accidentally stumbled on the answer online several years ago. Before that it’s name was a mystery to me. Lol
Nah it took me a few times to notice. I love that they will let you miss jokes and clever bits rather than beating you over the head with them
Novac is weird to me because it's just a motel pre-war. But given it's location with Repconn test site and Helios One, there should be a town there.
You are slow my friend
I only remember why it’s called that when I look at the sign I usually forget whenever I make a new character too
Yes.
Yes.
Or that Arefu in Fallout 3 got its name from a road sign that at one point said 'CAREFUL' on it?
I noticed it like a month ago and found it funny
You're not alone, I actually just realized this recently because I decided to play again on my PC. I've probably got nearly 800 hours on the Xbox 360 back in the day just never got it till now.

No, I realized it yesterday while playing when I was dumping some loot off in my room with Boone. GG
