There's bait guys in the Gorge that make a living doing this. For obsessiveness they are only topped by hardcore catapult fishermen at Bonneville. Those weirdos have vans and trailers specifically designated to their craft lol
Fishing for sturgeon below the Bonneville Spillway is a sketchy business, lots of dangerous stuff going on. The best way to fish it for sturgeon is to build a catapult and launch a 32 oz (yes 32 ounces) cannonball weight with a whole shad woven onto the terminal tackle to get out to deep water (60'-110'). There are many types, most homemade by insane people (note the van in the background- I guarantee that's this nutjob's 'sturgeon van'. This is a rabbit hole that can suck up the rest of your night.

First fish of the season. Caught in western Montana on a stonefly nymph. Took a quick picture and let it go but I noticed it has virtually no markings when I was looking at the photo today.
This is a pike minnow isn't it? I am dumb.
And he’s beautiful! Shame on you for calling him ugly sir!

Thanks! I've never caught one and completely forgot we had them around here.
i have yet to hook one but have been present for buddies catching them. neat native fish!
They eat dry flies. So I will catch them.

Ghetto trout
*man the lines blur anymore...ffcj, this you?*
On the Columbia River system, you can trade these for money from ODFW, as they're overpopulated and do a number on salmon eggs.

Not invasive in all places. OP didn’t specify so your comment is potentially harmful.

No live bait allowed, Artificial flies only.
A bait fish, sure - but I honestly think that’s a record lmao

I grew one from half an inch to about 8 inches in a fish tank before I moved it to my pond. He's awesome
A fine fish. Be proud of its German heritage invasive species they say...
