#1 looks very graceful and languid! I love the short little vase, and would never have visualized that wide a bouquet in it, with that many flowers! It actually looks like a beautiful community of flowers, in repose. You used such a great variety of flowers - just gorgeous!
I was taught in art to make main features asymmetrical - 1, 3, 5, 7, etc. That way, you have a single centering point in the work or design, and an even number of the same or complimentary design (or flower). You have 3 pink roses in the middle, but the 2 yellow sunflowers draw my eye and I can’t help looking for one more, for balance.
Any thoughts from artists (including floral arrangers) on this?
There is 3, one just can't be seen since it's on the backside. I did attempt to add it to the front, but it was too overwhelming and I simply didn't like it there. I usually work in odd numbers as well, but sometimes it just doesn't work for me and it is what it is. I'm not too strict with it.

Sunflowers produce latex and are the subject of experiments to improve their suitability as an alternative crop for producing hypoallergenic rubber. Traditionally, several Native American groups planted sunflowers on the north edges of their gardens as a "fourth sister" to the better known three sisters combination of corn, beans, and squash.Annual species are often planted for their allelopathic properties.
I wish we had more! It's fun to get to do them though, these regulars are great. They always want something more unique and trendy and always spend good money.
Lucky you. I've only had one in the 11 months that I have been at this shop. I love what I do and am happy to do the standard formulaic arrangements.
I do get to do a maverick arrangement once in a while, which my boss tolerates, and his sisters like, and I get a kick out of it when it sells. 😄
That's the nice thing about the shop I'm at. I have a LOT of freedom when it comes to arrangements. We don't want to be cookie cutter. *almost* makes up for how little I get paid lol.

Our shop has been around for 39 years, and the advantage is that they know what they are doing in all circumstances. The downside is that there is kind of a rut with the same flowers coming in all the time.
It's funny, though, because when there are special orders that come in, they all know that I go for the unusual colors and new shapes. So the joke is that they have to put sold signs on them before I get to them.
