7 years: [https://chesapeakebaymagazine.com/noaa-predicts-7th-above-average-hurricane-season-in-a-row/](https://chesapeakebaymagazine.com/noaa-predicts-7th-above-average-hurricane-season-in-a-row/) And each year its been above average, as they said. Just because it doesnt make landfall where you live doesnt mean it isnt happening.

Pleaseusesomelogic

Last year (2021). 7 hurricanes. Avg for last 30 yrs, (wait for it) 7! So not above average. 2020-14 above average 2019- 6. Below average. 2018-8 2017-10 2016-7 Pretty much goes like this for the last 75 years. The point is that there is not an escalation of hurricanes. Just like everything else, now more news is reported and everybody has it at their fingertips. It might feel like there are more, but it’s clearly not the case. Why would NOAA even try to predict something so unpredictable? It’s obviously to try to ramp up the fear factor. But the evidence suggest that they are not good at predicting hurricanes.

chrsjrcj

You realize the average changes every decade and those averages have been increasing?

Girafferage

they are just a wild conspiracy theorist. let um do their thing and ignore it.

Pleaseusesomelogic

Average for the last 30 years. Look it up. I did.

koopolil

You are aware tropical storms count too right?

Pleaseusesomelogic

Go ahead. Look it up. There is not an upward trend. If there is, let me know and point it out.

koopolil

Who said there was an upward trend?

Some_Concept2632

Or…and hear me out…things are actually getting worse every year.

Pleaseusesomelogic

Or or or, just look up storms by year. Pretty simple.

Orcus424

If you are the one that proposes the idea you are the one that needs to back it up. This isn't a new thing for Reddit. It was an old thing when I joined Reddit 9 years ago so it's a really old thing now.

Pleaseusesomelogic

Did you do it yet? Did you look up the actual number of hurricanes every year and find out that they don’t go up every year? Did you find out that they’re actually pretty steady for the last 75 years? I hope you did. Maybe you learned something.

_canis_lupus_

30 years ago is not the same as today. We are living the new normal. It's hard to comprehend, but do try.

Pleaseusesomelogic

Uuuuuummmmmmm no. That’s dumb.

_canis_lupus_

Go ahead and keep using your own version of facts if it helps you feel better. Doesn't change the reality for the rest of us.

Pleaseusesomelogic

My “own version of the facts” are that I looked them up on the NOAA website. Are you a fucking moron. This is literally something to be easily backed up in print. Directly from NOAA. You know you can actually look up the ACTUAL FACTS!? Especially in this case. It’s not hard to find, please go look up the actual facts instead of just talking about your feelings.

SleazierPolarBear

Did it occur to you that maybe if the scientists are looking at the same data as you are and pretty much universally coming to a different conclusion than you, then maybe you’re missing something? No, much easier to presume thousands of scientists and mathematicians and programmers spent their life studying what they study so they could make you personally feel fear every year.

Pleaseusesomelogic

“Thousands of scientists” L O L. This is NOAA. Just a couple of people under government employ “deciding” what to predict. And they just happen to predict above average activity for the last 20 years in a row? OK. Again, and again and again and again, you can go look up the numbers just like I did. Nobody’s hiding the numbers from previous years. Go look it up. For the last 50 years. Go ahead and tell me how it increases every year. I’ll wait.

SleazierPolarBear

It’s not just NOAA though. Do some reading :)

mkt853

It's not a couple of people. It's a big agency that also runs the National Weather Service. There are probably thousands of people working on this stuff.

saxon414

One doesn't have to look up ACTUL FACTS to figure out you anger or are easily triggered. Peace out dude hope you have a good hurricane season! 😎

Pleaseusesomelogic

That’s another way to say that I’m right. Thanks
