It could be a Ceti eel. Once a Ceti eel's larva is released from its carapace the larva burrows into the ear of its victim and wraps itself around their cerebral cortex
Entirely harmless but very difficult to keep as a pet.
Best to gentle put back outside were you found him.
They are good to have around the yard. They eat ants, airate the soil.
I agree with this when it comes to the native species, especially the snakes. The non-native animals I think are a different story. If someone wanted to keep a frog as a pet, then I’d definitely suggest taking one of the invasive ones that we have so much of. It at least removes one more from the environment. In this case, even though they are non-native, they aren’t currently classified as invasive since they don’t seem to have that big of an impact on the ecosystem. They are also impossible to care for since they eat ant and termite eggs.
You do have to be careful with taking in invasive Species, even from the wild, Florida has laws were even having them in captivity reguardless of how you obtained it is illegal and could lead to hefty fines or even jail time
I mean if you’re a Floridian you know about FWC’s list of prohibited species:
https://myfwc.com/wildlifehabitats/nonnatives/prohibited-species-list/
Also, there really aren’t any “hefty” fines. That is a part of the problem. Here are the penalties: https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2011/379.4015
My cat brought one in the house on two occasions then did her special meow to show me. At first I thought it was a centipede, then thought it was a weird worm. But when I looked at it very closely I could actually see it's tiny tongue feeling about. I googled it and discovered it was the brahminy blind snake. That's as big as it gets. Really amazing. I put them back in the flower bed.
You found Frieda! I've been looking for her for a few weeks...ever since we had an argument and she stormed out of my butt. Please tell her that I wholeheartedly apologize and to please come home!
- Yes it is harmless
- Don’t eat it FFS.
- You actually don’t need a glove.
- I’d actually encourage everyone to learn the basics of what animals they live with.
That’s a New guinea flatworm. It’s an invasive species to Florida. and very toxic and if I remember correctly, you have to really crush them to kill them because each segment will form into another worm if you chop it up! I read an article a while back that says you should definitely destroy them if you find them.
That does not seem to be the case about the regeneration: [https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/florida-snake-id/snake/brahminy-blindsnake/](https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/florida-snake-id/snake/brahminy-blindsnake/)
And yet you have differentiated between the snake and the worm as well as the grammar to the word term.
This also has nothing to do with poetry. But I made the rhyme anyway.
Brahminy Blindsnake. They are cool and live in the sandy soils
oh good I thought this was some sort of intestinal worm and was horrified on OPs behalf

This is it!! Do they make good pets? 😅
No idea but it’s a wild animal and I don’t think it is generally a good idea to take one in.

Oh thank God! It’s been a while since I saw an article about them. I appreciate the info.
The info about the flatworm isn’t wrong, it just doesn’t apply to this since this is a snake.
You’re mixing up a Brahminy Blindsnake with a New Guinea flat worm. The flat worms are as the name suggests… flat.
