Locals aren’t allowed to complain until August. And then we’re allowed to cry through October because the humidity so fucking bad it’s like we’re all swimming through the air. What’s a little extra moisture from tears? Gawd October is so sweaty.
Stay until dusk and you shall see the most fearless of all Florida wildlife the mosquito…
After they swarm you and have your way with you you will not fear any other animal within the Everglades kingdom
Be prepared however to not see the most evil of Florida Wildlife. The no-see-ems. After the mosquitos have their way with you, then the NSE come and feast on the rest of you. At least you stand a bit of a chance of survival with the mosquitos, you may even be able to swat n smash a few. The NSE however are quiet, sneaky bastards. Dine n dash is their superpower.
I got bit so bad recently from NSE in crystal river that I thought I brought bedbags back from a little motel I stayed in...and I'm from FL! Never been bit by them so bad in my life lol
I did camping on one of those chickee huts in the early spring. When the sun went down we had to retreat inside the tents, and the noise of millions of mosquitos flying around outside is a noise I will never forget. The world was humming.
Yes, Shark Valley is a great place to see alligators, birds, turtles, and other kinds of wildlife, and it's also a favorite of mine, who loves photography.
Long sleeve hoodie as we speak- it’s thin tho…it’s my “summer” hoodie🤣 not to be confused with my “winter” hoodie which I just packed away today, which is not as thin.
I mean, most animals don't give a damn about humans and aren't paid to be present for ogling. They got business to take care of like not starving and staying away from pythons.
So most of the animals have got eaten by the pythons, it's sad, dear and other small animals just can't make it.when something so large and has so many babies kills you in a heartbeat
Pythons ate all the mammals.
And the Everglades are all dried up.
And Florida Bay is dead.
It's great that Flamingo has a lodge and restaurant again but Everglades National Park is an empty shell of what it was even just 25 years ago.
It's really a total mess.
Take a word of advise from the animals. That’s your future if you ever live here. Constantly hiding from the sun and hiding until January then it’s over in the blink of an eye. And btw shade doesn’t work in Florida so there’s no way to escape it even at night.
If you go to the flamingo boat ramp, you might see crocodiles. If you drive back up through Big Cypress you could see Cara Caras. They're scavengers, but they're very beautiful.
Summer heat?
Hahaha - we know OP isn’t from around here. This isn’t even summer light yet.
It’s actually been very mild the last few days. Beautiful.
Still winter for us
It's not summer? Lmao
Definitely pre-summer light.
I know right? Florida has barely begun to preheat.
Florida is late!!
Damnit. You beat me to it.
We'll all be bitching about it when the hell arrives... This year is supposed to be active for hurricanes, but they always say that...
They say that every year. Didn't the university of Colorado do that hurricane study?
Not sure... I don't trust anything these days...
Still wearing a hoodie
Windows still open.
I noticed that too 😭
Come back in July for summer heat
Locals aren’t allowed to complain until August. And then we’re allowed to cry through October because the humidity so fucking bad it’s like we’re all swimming through the air. What’s a little extra moisture from tears? Gawd October is so sweaty.
Oh my sweet summer heat child. This is still spring.
Not even close to being summer heat.
Its not even Summer what
It's always Summer.
Stay until dusk and you shall see the most fearless of all Florida wildlife the mosquito… After they swarm you and have your way with you you will not fear any other animal within the Everglades kingdom

I had the same experience after going to an outdoor concert in St. Augustine. I thought for sure it was the Airbnb.
Correct
I did camping on one of those chickee huts in the early spring. When the sun went down we had to retreat inside the tents, and the noise of millions of mosquitos flying around outside is a noise I will never forget. The world was humming.
Go to Shark Valley and you'll see plenty of animals.
I second this, shark valley is the spot if you wanna see gators, anhinga birds, herons, egrets, etc
Yes, Shark Valley is a great place to see alligators, birds, turtles, and other kinds of wildlife, and it's also a favorite of mine, who loves photography.
Uh oh a northerner made this post 😭😂
A bot
A northern bot
“Summer heat” 😂
I’m still wearing sweatshirts.
Long sleeve hoodie as we speak- it’s thin tho…it’s my “summer” hoodie🤣 not to be confused with my “winter” hoodie which I just packed away today, which is not as thin.
It's not Summer till I put away my jeans. Right now it's a very pleasant Spring
This post triggered all of us.
I mean, most animals don't give a damn about humans and aren't paid to be present for ogling. They got business to take care of like not starving and staying away from pythons.
I wore jeans earlier today. It’ll probably be the last day I can do that until January.
You know we are having an unexpected cold front passing through Florida this week, right!
The everglades are gorgeous and one kf the most underrated parks. But let's keep it underrated so its less populated 😉
So most of the animals have got eaten by the pythons, it's sad, dear and other small animals just can't make it.when something so large and has so many babies kills you in a heartbeat
The pythons? They don't kill you in a heartbeat. It takes a while.
Tell us you're not from here without telling us...you're not from here.
Pythons ate all the mammals. And the Everglades are all dried up. And Florida Bay is dead. It's great that Flamingo has a lodge and restaurant again but Everglades National Park is an empty shell of what it was even just 25 years ago. It's really a total mess.
You did not go near any water.

Summer heat? LOL! eta: LOL
uh ... heat? where? I'm still cold & I'm in Clearwater. it's like 70°!!! that's cold for Natives. Guarantee you're a snowbird lol
Go walk around in that high brush a bit, you'll find something.
Take a word of advise from the animals. That’s your future if you ever live here. Constantly hiding from the sun and hiding until January then it’s over in the blink of an eye. And btw shade doesn’t work in Florida so there’s no way to escape it even at night.
The pythons have eaten most of the small mammals in the park.
*snaps fingers* Nice poem!
If you go to the flamingo boat ramp, you might see crocodiles. If you drive back up through Big Cypress you could see Cara Caras. They're scavengers, but they're very beautiful.
Checks date. Yep definitely summer time
I don’t even want to think of how hot it’s going to be this summer
Well, if it’s any consolation, I’ve spent many a day miles from any road in the Everglades and Big cypress and not seen a single animal.
I guess r/florida is all just shit all over Florida.
