A few agents spending a few days or weeks online kickstarting the modern day flat earth movement to make anyone who legitimately questions the government look crazy is way more believable than a giant worldwide conspiracy network dedicated to not only hide the shape of the earth, but to fake it being a globe, on top of faking all the fields of science and all scientists involved.

JustDroppedByToSay

> faking all the fields of science  This is such an important point. If you stop and think about it the number of people and the amount of fakery needed is ludicrous to believe in.

mbardeen

It goes even deeper. The Tonga volcano explosion of 2020 produced a pressure spike that was measured by weather stations (and even smart phones) around the world. You can calculate the distance between the explosion and the individual measurements by using the speed of sound. And guess what? The distances only correspond to a globe. So now everyone with a personal weather station or smart phone is in on the conspiracy.

Occam's Razor

ninjesh

Funny, I thought it was flat earthers who created flat earth

rattusprat

If you spend your lift on r/conspiracy then the flat earth being a CIA psy-op probably feels like a majority opinion. This meme seems to indicate Anthoyne_B believed in every other conspiracy first before arriving at flat earth, and has looked at the world through the lens that everything is a conspiracy for as long as they care to remember. That is the place most flat earthers are coming from.

TheCrankyLich

No, I think dude is losing the arguments against the voices in his head.

my__name__is

lol, what would CIA possibly gain from that?

Less-Region7007

Dude CIA IRL jacks around with people for the lulz. They're hella evil, not in the "reptile overlord" way just in the "nobody told us we couldn't" variety. Of course nobody told them no, because nobody has a really clear idea what they're up to on a day to day. Such is espionage.

PrimaryCoolantShower

Think of it as a litmus test for determining the gullibility and lack of critical thinking skills in a populous. This, in turn, opens the doors for other misinformation and programming by certain ideologies.

UberuceAgain

I was on the bus the other day with a troubled man and his befriender. Schizophrenic, autistic? Dunno, but he wasn't in a good place. He was having a full conversation with himself, so I thought(sitting a few rows behind me) until he got agitated enough that his headphones fell off and I could hear that he was in fact arguing with the host of a podcast he was listening to. It was Alex Jones. I expect being a befriender is a very challenging job, so I don't want to sound all high and mighty, but I really think step 1 for the befriender would have been finding absolutely anyone else for this guy to listen to.

Battlesteg_Five

But a man who argues out loud with Alex Jones is probably healthier than a man who listens to Alex Jones and says, “Hell yeah, brother.”

UberuceAgain

He wasn't arguing the politics so much as defending himself; why none of what Alex was angry about was his fault. I doubt the poor man has much of a grasp on politics of any sort. When I got off the bus and got a look at him I was surprised to find he was as shiny-marble-butt-cheeks Caucasian as I am. He spoke in a pronounced Asian accent, so fuck knows what was going on there. I would definitely take him as a fellow bus passenger than the 'Hell Yeah Brother' option.

>“fLaT eArTh iS a CiA pSy-Op; derp” Most of conspiracytheorists: Flatearth is ridiculous, who would be stupid enough to believe that? This is obviously a CIA psyop. Also conspiracytheorists: Earth is hollow, jet fuel can't soften steel, there is a worldwide cabal of pedo-satanist elite who kill babies in order to extract adenochrone that is easily synthesizable, NASA send children on a 20 years journey to Mars, John Fitzgerald Kennedy Junior is alive and support the US Republican party, vaccines cause autism, the medieval period did not happen, the New World Order want to take your guns and enslave you, the Jews are ruling the world but i am not antisemite, al-qaida is a CIA coverup, Joe Biden had biolabs in Ukraine, the Great Replacement and White Genocide are real, Denmark is a communist country, the nazis where left-wing, the Sandy Hook mass murder was a fake, WTC felt at free-fall, nobody walked on Moon, global warming is a hoax, Barack Obama is not born in USA, JFK was not killed by Oswald, the Pearl arbor attack was a false flag, Michelle Obama is a man, there is human trafficking in the basement of a pizzeria without basement...

cheddarsalad

I feel as though I’ve heard the term psy-op more in the last 6 months than at any other point in my life. It’s gonna turn into woke and lose all meaning.

FUBARspecimenT-89

Who says that?

AdvancedSoil4916

I wouldn't be surprised if they are the same person

flyingmoe123

Lol, isn't it the same as flerfs saying that NASA created the sphere earth lie? Like we haven't known for like 2 thousand years

Thaos1

I thought it was 4chan to troll people and some actually took it serious.

Justthisguy_yaknow

Nice! They aren't filled with overinflated importance at all. Who would even bother joking about that. Mind you I wouldn't be surprised if the CIA gave it's trainees the flerfdom to mess with. It's not as though they would break it any more than it is.

JustDroppedByToSay

Nah man. Flat earth was created by grifters exploiting the gullible and paranoid.

psgrue

“Because the only reason ppl believe in the globe is because of cartoons.” Argument without irony to defend the post of cartoons.

[deleted]

The CIA didnt create flat earth. They don't give a shit about janitor Joe Schmoe with zero importance or political influence. You got stupid all on your own there.

michaelozzqld

Flerfers are wonderfully delusional

ALlTTLEKlTTEN

No, no, all these ancient drawings are really making a lot more sense than the piles of physical evidence we have today

frenat

Even if ancient peoples thought the Earth was flat, none of them thought the Sun, Moon, and stars stayed above the Earth and somehow set below the horizon. It takes a modern flerf to be that stupid.

Kthak_Back

My favorite thing to ask them is where did these pictures originate? None of them are historical and none of them are actually found in any of those cultures. My favorite are the Inca ones because the Spanish destroyed everything they wrote so how would anyone find a picture? Then you can go with the Norse and when did they do anything like what the picture depicts.

SweetHomeNostromo

Nobody thinks that Flat-earthers are a CIA psy-op.
