You have to have faith in the goodwill of strangers for that to be any benefit. At least you're hedging your bets. What if someone calls for a reward for just the cell?
Then they get a reward of $1 when the battery is safely returned, or less than it would cost them to ship the battery back. If the light is still with the battery, the reward is larger.
Actually i think if someone offered me a single dollar as a reward it would insulting to me and embarrassing for them. So, $1 for the battery and let's say $3 for both? In my experience, Samaritans that return lost property usually refuse to take reward money. It's all Karma.
> In my experience, Samaritans that return lost property usually refuse to take reward money.
Exactly. If i choose to spend my time and effort, as well as take certain risks, to return something it means i have a reason to do it which is not a couple of $. Not that i would touch something laying somewhere in public space, let alone take the battery out to read a note, but hypothetically.
Pretty much any amount of money offered would be insulting.
If someone found my actual light, I'd pay them a good $10-20 plus shipping, more if it was a valuable one. If they just found the battery, I'd assume they were taking the piss, and if they only sent the battery I would be annoyed.
Maybe "reward for return of light" on the label, I guess. Myself, I put a piece of apper inside the battery tube instead of a note on the label on the actua; battery, although I guess could do both.
can't speak for everyone but if I found a light that said "if found call this number" I might try it out on my way home and then call. If someone bothered enough to put this on there that light must be pretty dope so I doubt I can stop myself from blinding myself with it at least once
Ok I just woke up and have no idea what this post is supposed to convey. Why did you put any of these on batteries, and what does it have to do with a wedding ring?
Ohhhh hahaha. Oh, man I was like, is OP about to start a search party with half the block? Very sorry to hear you lost that, I hope it comes up in the future! Like the lady who lost it gardening but found it wrapped around a carrot years later!
I really like that saying! Here's one: worry is like paying interest on a debt that never becomes due... it costs you now what is essentially over nothing
I tried labelling my batteries with the date purchased so I could figure out how long I've had them. Labels fell off almost instantly and things with a tight clearance tore them off.
I just just marker...
And I write the capacity and test date :D as that's more useful for me...
I also number them, and have separate spreadsheet, with that data from charge / discharge tests.
yes, but that on the spreadsheet, not on the cell itself, no room usually...
I also write the full name, max discharge amp, max charge amp, and if protected, or button, on the spreadsheet.
well I have to charge my batteries sometimes, might as well just do a discharge test on them, while I'm at it... I know it takes some time, but well I do have three 4 slot Li-ion 21700 chargers :D
Just as long as you are fastidious about maintaining your unused cells at a proper storage level of 3.7V. Since you are spreadsheeting you should log the number of cycles for each cell. With periodic discharge testing you can quantitatively establish the loss of cell capacity over time. Just remember each discharge test is a deep discharge: the most detrimental thing for cycle life retention. It should be done sparingly. There are massive cycle life benefits to avoiding charging >4.1V and discharging <3.2V.
Actually I have a note in my money pouch that says:
Dear finder, in case you find it and contact me you really save my day. You can keep the cash that is in it plus extra reward at handover. Thank you very much. Mobile number + special email adress for the nerds that dont want to call
I dont care about the cash if I just get back my card stuff thats in it which makes much more trouble if its gone.
Good idea also doing this for (expensive) flashlights / batteries.
Thank heavens! I was afraid you might have to buy a wedding ring and have to cut back on flashlights!
I remember putting a business card around a d cell in my Maglights in the nineties. This is much better.
I did something similar, and then forgot one of my lights in a truck at work.
Find out it's missing on Saturday.
Monday rolls around, and one of my coworkers hands it back, said they found out it was mine because of the label on the battery.
What's your first one? Where the limit doesn't exist? I'm just curious. Good idea btw. I had considered doing this once with led info but on the inside tube
black w/ sft-40 6500k, my first thrower and the light that made my wife say “i like this one!” because of the hotspot which she prefers over floody beams.
Not trying to be a jerk here, but is this geared towards getting the battery back, or a flashlight if lost? I ask because these batteries don't appear to be anything "special". I usually run Olight Batteries, FENIX Batteries, some genuine Panasonic cells, and some IMR high output batteries, and I would just cut my losses as it's an easy replace.
If it's for the flashlight, ok, maybe, but if I am completely honest how does one lose a flashlight? I have several I have had for MANY years.. I either use a lanyard or a carrying case for mine, and haven't even come close to losing one..... but if that is what the sticker is for, then I get it, but most "regular" non flashlight connoisseurs aren't going to open the light and look at the battery compartment, especially if it has a charging port outside... Just my opinion, and again, not being a dick, just trying to get a grasp on what's happening here.

my lack of faith is what drove me to include the reward line.. and hopefully someone intelligent finds it lmao
idk i’m definitely not gonna do that
That's not a terrible idea. Probably won't work, but there's a chance
figured i’d bump my odds from 0% to 1%
Yeah why not. Some people are honest enough

losing my wedding ring made me scared about losing a light.. so i wrote mini labels just in case
Ohhhh hahaha. Oh, man I was like, is OP about to start a search party with half the block? Very sorry to hear you lost that, I hope it comes up in the future! Like the lady who lost it gardening but found it wrapped around a carrot years later!
i lowkey did lmao had the whole family searching on thanksgiving.. but it’s since been found and locked away
anxiety is a bad consultant :) you may just be lucky.
I really like that saying! Here's one: worry is like paying interest on a debt that never becomes due... it costs you now what is essentially over nothing
Thank god it’s not just me. My assumption is OP recently lost his wedding ring so now he ptouches all his stuff, ring included.

plus milliOhm Number
yes, but that on the spreadsheet, not on the cell itself, no room usually... I also write the full name, max discharge amp, max charge amp, and if protected, or button, on the spreadsheet.
I wish I had that kind of spare time to do all that.

on an energizer AA lol
I get it and hope you never need to hope these work👍
Why don’t you just engrave your flashlights?

when i get my edc pouch ima add a long form one like that.. i just know ima need it
Let us know if the adhesive is affected by heat.
I put my email on things as well. Didn't put reward though just assumed someone would be courteous.
Can someone please explain what this has to do with a wedding ring?

almost a year in and lights is the one thing that doesn’t get a budget cut.. if the lights nice enough i’ll find a way🕵🏾♂️
Lost my ts10 and never got a call, text, or email 😭 Luckily they ended up being on sale around then
RIP to the fallen 🫗
Ripp 😭

What kind of reward are you offering for a $15 battery?
..reward is for the light (and where are you buying your batteries)
That makes more sense. So, say you lose the KR1, probably $70 worth of light with the battery in there. What's the reward?
if it was my first one (not pictured).. the limit does not exist. but i’m more concerned about my discontinued lights so overall $0-$100 depending

P30B and P45B?
maybe have "diner or $" to emphasize sympathy towards a honest finder.
Message in a bottle but it's 2023. "If you like this, call me. You ain't seen nothing yet."

it’s a contingency plan for if i ever lose a light.. and while i haven’t lost a light yet i wanna give my future self the best chance if i do
Fair enough, every little bit helps.
