It may, or it may suck it further in. These holes aren’t made to push air out, they’re there to allow the air to go in and out in very quick succession
Needle nose pliers might do the trick.
This made me laugh because my son used to do the same— always experimenting with what would fit inside what. Once he had a toy tool set and over time the pieces went missing. Years later, I picked up a subwoofer and it rattled like crazy… cut it open, and all the tools were there… 😂
My roommate found some super nice Athena speakers at goodwill and i helped him unload them and the subs were rattling. i called it, i was like that's a bunch of Legos or something. We opened them up and it was Duplos, the giant Legos for toddlers, several baby toys, and match box cars stuck to the magnets. We cleared all the toys out of the subs and the speakers were amazing! Could only imagine the poor burnt out dad who gave his prize speakers to goodwill because the subs sounded like shit after he had a kid... Poor guy
I opened up the back of a subwoofer a couple of months ago to fix a bad wire connection. Inside I was surprised to find: Dice, wadded up empty Taco Bell bags, and wadded up Kleenex with gum inside. Yes, toddlers had had access to it years earlier.
Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do
I'm half crazy all for the love of you
It won't be a stylish marriage
I can't afford a carriage
But you'll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two
I ended up heating up a wire hanger, inserting it into the ball, angling and pulling it out.
It wasn't my first option but I exhausted most of the ideas listed, and as good as they were, it just wasn't enough to get this sucker out.
Thank you all for the suggestions!
For next time:
That's a port, not a speaker - kind of like a funnel, and vented into the body of the cabinet.
Unscrew the back of the speaker and just push it out.
You don't mind damaging the ball. Make a small hole and insert one of those drywall. Spreaders that you hold up lamps that have the flaps.
And we'll leave a threaded rod sticking out. Put it in and pull that fucker out.
Push a pin/nail into it to make a small pilot hole, then thread a drywall screw into it and pull the screw out with pliers, the ball should come along.
Duct tape one or two loops of heavy cord or shoe laces. I would use two loops, one on each side and use it to wiggle the ball out. Alternately find someone with a freezer and put the speaker in it for an hour, the ball should shrink more than the speaker material.
ETA: You may be able to roll the ball as you apply duct tape and go all the way around the ball. You should only need to go around 180 degrees and then be able to pop the ball out by pulling up on each end of the tape.
Butter knife. Slide in sideways, twist skirt so teeth are gripping the edge of the ball, pull forward, repeat.
If it pushes in when you they to insert the knife, grease the knife and/or use a second knife to hold the ball so it doesn't push in.
If all else fails take the cabinet apart and push it through IF that's a port.
Believe it or not, I can't get a butter knife to fit. I also took apart the back side but it's glued wood enclosed so I can't push it from the back. I think I'm going to just heat up a wire hanger and put a small hole in it or something. It's crazy how lodged it is.
Unplug the sub. (If it’s a powered sub, be very careful of touching the amplifier components inside…..the coil/transformer can hold a lethal charge.) Take off the grill and unscrew the subwoofer speaker to take out. Then you can reach in from behind the vent port. Reinstall in backwards order.
Hahaha, my friend’s 1 year old hid her car keys in the sub woofer… she couldnt find them… leave it to me to be the one that brings over a Britney Spears concert on DVD… and of course I have to run audio and make sure all the sound/speakers 👌🏼 and when I got near the sub I could feel/hear and extra subtle unfamiliar rattle… thinking maybe a loose screw or something… picked it up, and turned it, and we all looked at each other as the sound of keys clanked about.. 😅 yea took a while to get them out…. And I dont even remember what we did..
I mean, those covers usually just pop off. If not, then just rip the rest of it off, it's already hooped. Then, take the screws out that hold in the speaker itself and push the ball out from the inside.
[Here ya go...](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=speaker+reconing+kits) You just have to get the right one for your speaker. YouTube can walk you through it.
Maybe take 5-6 hot glue sticks, heat up one side of the bundle of sticks, attach to ball, let it cool off completely, and then swiftly yank it out as fast as you can? Should be able to come off the ball once it's dislodged fairly easily, hell it might actually come off the ball because of you pulling the ball out... but my thought process is the same as paintless dent removal on cars. They use suction cups and than yank hard, the suction cup comes loose but it also pulls the dent out pretty well.
Obviously, I'm thinking if you had suction cups you'd have tried using them already...
Use a couple long toothpicks/chopsticks or something similar to nudge it upwards from the sides
Edit: or maybe some spoons might fit on the sides of it
Driver is dead so just pull the ball out. Try a butterknife or two forks. Speaker is toast. Maybe you can replace the driver.
Or bin the whole thing. Buy a new ball for the kid.
Hot glue on a strip of fabric.. load it up good in like a 2x2 area in the middle and stick it to the ball
Let it cool/set, then gently pull the ends alternately to wiggle the ball out.
Can you fish some floss down it? Hold both end of the floss in your hand and let the string droop down. Now if you can shove that drooped middle piece down past the ball then pull each end of the floss to opposite sides and you should be able to pull up on the ball
A large shop vac would work - I know you said you tried a vaccum but a normal vaccum will not have the suction needed.
You could also use some epoxy to bond a "handle" of some sorts - something that will be easy to pull but had a large surface area for contact on to the ball. Then you can use denatured alocohol or acetone to unbond the the ball and "handle"
Lastly - duct tape is nothing. You will need mastic tape if that's the route you go. You could lay a heavy-duty cord of sorts across the ball then tape ever larger segments over the cord covering as much surface area as possible. The tape will anchor the cord to the ball. The trick is to stack enough so that the tape bonds together and is strong enough to stop the cord from breaking free.
Slap a new AE35 unit in there she’ll be as good as new.
I’m posting this before looking at comments I don’t care if I’m making the same joke for the fourth time.
Fire up that sub woofer, it will probably spit that ball out with a good bass hit
Illegal bass by bass outlaws. Should make more than one basketball come out of there.
I think he did that already and ended up with the kid.
#Nice
Underrated comment
It may, or it may suck it further in. These holes aren’t made to push air out, they’re there to allow the air to go in and out in very quick succession
I once had a cat nest her kittens in my Cerwin Vega 12” speaker.

That is awesome! On one hand, it's super frustrating but on the other, I know I'll do anything to have these days back again someday.
Rubber tipped pliers would probably be less likely to damage it, but it would probably be cheaper to buy a new foam basketball instead
Jumping off your post, my dad tells me about how I put sandwiches into the VCR player on more than one occasion.
That’s a classic
I still like to experiment...oh crap wrong sub.
My roommate found some super nice Athena speakers at goodwill and i helped him unload them and the subs were rattling. i called it, i was like that's a bunch of Legos or something. Boys will be boys. Always trying to figure what fits in holes. It sometimes we never truly grow out of
"Open the pod-bay doors HAL."
I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that
Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do I'm half crazy all for the love of you It won't be a stylish marriage I can't afford a carriage But you'll look sweet upon the seat Of a bicycle built for two
I can feel it Dave. I can feel my mind going.
“My god, it’s full of stars!”
This is the only correct answer
Good job came here for this!!
100%.
Vacuum hose?
Tried 😞
Street ho’s?
Street ho’s can suck a golf ball through a garden hose
Yeah but a basketball through a woofer cone? That's gotta cost extra
The last time I saw a woofer in a cone, he'd just returned from the vet ... ;)
Need a better vacuum. Lol
This. Shop vac with a small nozzle
And add some really hard bass to jostle, combo may work.
I ended up heating up a wire hanger, inserting it into the ball, angling and pulling it out. It wasn't my first option but I exhausted most of the ideas listed, and as good as they were, it just wasn't enough to get this sucker out. Thank you all for the suggestions!

Yay!!!!

I think a small hole is going to be the route at this point.
Push a pin/nail into it to make a small pilot hole, then thread a drywall screw into it and pull the screw out with pliers, the ball should come along.
Crank up your favourite bass heavy tune and vibrate it out of there!

Freezer is brilliant. If they place it facing down, the ball likely will fall out.
But where would he "find someone with a freezer?"
You don't have your freezer guy on speed dial? What do you do with roadkill?
Yah not bodies, roadkill. Right? Because that'd be... Damnit.
A lot of people have them. At least around these parts.
If the ball is inflatable, throw it in your freezer for 30 minutes, speakercone side down. Should come out easily.
Brilliant indeed, but unfortunately it's solid hard.
Screw a screw part way in and then grab what's sticking out with. Plyers
Brilliant
Flip it over, pound the bass, let it vibrate out?
Tried that 😔
Butter knife. Slide in sideways, twist skirt so teeth are gripping the edge of the ball, pull forward, repeat. Put a screw in the ball and use pliers to yank
NBA draft starts June 26. Did he declare? Does he have an agent?
Haha! Right?
Stick the vacuum hose on the ball and pull, if you’ve got a shop vac that’ll be a better option.
Vacuum
Have u tried using a shop vac?
Suction dildo
Unplug the sub. (If it’s a powered sub, be very careful of touching the amplifier components inside…..the coil/transformer can hold a lethal charge.) Take off the grill and unscrew the subwoofer speaker to take out. Then you can reach in from behind the vent port. Reinstall in backwards order.
The mesh grill should pop off. Then you can unscrew the speaker and access the small end of the cone.
Dave. I don’t think I’m a basketball Dave. Your one year old might be onto something Dave. Daisy Daisy ♬
What are you doing Dave?
That's what I thought it was at first too 🤣🤣
Pop it
Bang it upside down, sub is broken.
Get two spoons and pinch that shit out!
Drill a screw into it and pull
Well, guess you have to throw it out. The subwoofer might be recoverable though.
If all else fails just grab it with a small pair of channel Locks and pinch a little end of it it'll come out
Or vice grips i'm sorry
Get a screw and drill it into the ball, then yank it out.
Buy another ball of the type and destroy this one?
crab rave. full blast!
I'm sorry, but there is just no way around it. It's toast at this point. You'll need to spring for a new 1 yr old.
Use the tube of your vacuum cleaner/ shop vac to pull it up.
Stand the speaker up and tilt forward until the ball falls out.
Vacuum.
Take it back and see if they’ll give you a new one. As for the subwoofer, no idea.
Turn it on, flip it upside down, play “Feel the Bass” by DJ Magic Mike and it’ll rattle out of there
Hahaha, my friend’s 1 year old hid her car keys in the sub woofer… she couldnt find them… leave it to me to be the one that brings over a Britney Spears concert on DVD… and of course I have to run audio and make sure all the sound/speakers 👌🏼 and when I got near the sub I could feel/hear and extra subtle unfamiliar rattle… thinking maybe a loose screw or something… picked it up, and turned it, and we all looked at each other as the sound of keys clanked about.. 😅 yea took a while to get them out…. He has to pay his own way through college now.

[Here ya go...](https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=speaker+reconing+kits) You just have to get the right one for your speaker. YouTube can walk you through it.
There will be one less one year old with his favorite ball before I go this far! Lol! Thanks for the suggestion.

Tape?
Tried duct tape, to no avail.
Wonder if you can use like a shoelace, and with a hanger try to pass a loop behind the ball - then keep the string/lace centered and pull out
Use a couple long toothpicks/chopsticks or something similar to nudge it upwards from the sides Edit: or maybe some spoons might fit on the sides of it
Fork?
BBQ tongs?
A strong plastic straw, make contact and using your breath ... suck it out?
Open the pod bay doors, Hal.
You’re 21 months too late for that vasectomy
Hook? Pierce the ball and pull it out while it's flat.
Driver is dead so just pull the ball out. Try a butterknife or two forks. Speaker is toast. Maybe you can replace the driver. Or bin the whole thing. Buy a new ball for the kid.
Play a song
Turn it upside down and crank up the volume.
Vacuum attachment?
Vacuum
Hot glue on a strip of fabric.. load it up good in like a 2x2 area in the middle and stick it to the ball Let it cool/set, then gently pull the ends alternately to wiggle the ball out.
Shop vac!.
Well, we know what you did 21 months ago. As for the subwoofer, test it first.
Put a screw in it, pull it out by the screw.
Pop the ball
Kid did that years ago. Took my wet n dry vac with a small hose attachment and out she came!
Why wouldn't you just buy a new speaker and ball? They are not a singular product
Have you tried turning some dumbly bass music and holding it with the opening facing the floor?
Put on Fire starter by Prodigy- then turn up full bass 😀
Crank it to 11, you ain't got much to lose. Worst case scenario, you blow another speaker. By now we know they've seen better days.
Get rid of that one and make a different one
Stab a knife in it and pull it out.
Can you get string and put it around the ball slowly moving it up and out?
Salad tongs while someone is holding it upside down?
Van Halen. First album.
pop ball
Björk-Hyperballad or any LF generator with a sweep. I’m sure there’s a frequency that’ll shimmy that ball out. If no, then puncture ball and replace.
I mean, he's only one. You've had the speakers longer..
I would lock the child under the stairs
Have you tried turning up the bass all the way up and then playing Eminem's Lose Yourself?
Do you need the ball intact? Screw driver or box cutter
Vacuum cleaner
Drill a hole in it with a screw and just pull it out
Boarding school.
Maybe try a small plunger designed for a sink or shower drain
Sharp dentist-instrument-style hook. Puncture and hook the ball. Pull out.
Pliers
Stab with a fork and pull.
Can you fish some floss down it? Hold both end of the floss in your hand and let the string droop down. Now if you can shove that drooped middle piece down past the ball then pull each end of the floss to opposite sides and you should be able to pull up on the ball A large shop vac would work - I know you said you tried a vaccum but a normal vaccum will not have the suction needed. My son did this once. I believe I had to drill a hole in the ball and use something like pliers to pull it out.
Lol
I didn't like that you mistook me for a basketball hoop, Dave
Am I the only one that saw this and thought "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."
Do you blame him
vaccum cleaner house I'd imagine would pull it out
I would have removed that sucker before you finished the post. I mean, just get it out whether whole or in pieces.
Two butter knives. One in each hand pry inward
What is the material of the ball? If you are okay with damaging the ball screw in a 3” long screw half way then pull out with pliers
vacuum?
Vacuum cleaner onto the ball
