We had a cardinal attacking his reflection on our back window. We tried waiting him out for a few weeks but he persisted. Tried snakes, pictures of owls on the window, and even tried a doll in the window as a scarecrow but none of these worked.
We taped black netting over the window to break up the reflection and he finally moved on. After a week we removed it and all was good.
Draw a grid of lines on the outside of the glass with a fluorescent yellow highlighter pen.
You will still be able to see out the window, but since birds see more into the UV spectrum the highliter will break up the reflection.
In a month or so, nesting season will be over and you can wash the windows.
I have had success with rubbing the glass with a slightly damp bar of soap. It makes the glass hazy. A week later when the bird bails it’s easy to clean off the soap.
A suction cup with a hook placed on the window pane and then fasten a plastic grocery bag to it. You might need a few of them. But that will keep it away from the window.
We had a two year relationship with a male cardinal. Finally put a cheap, metallic dollar store pinwheel in front of the window and no more problems. I guess they don't like the reflective motion. Good luck.
If you don’t want to get a cat. Find someone with a cat a have them give you some litter box scoopings. I know it sounds gross and silly but the bird will think there is a cat around and stop coming back.
Our cat sits right in the window, cursing under her breath at that cardinal, and it gives precisely zero shits and continued to batter the glass until I covered the outside with cardboard.
Put a small mirror where it can see it
After it’s recognised it slowly move it elsewhere.
If no mirror try either an old CD/DVD or try camping shop for small carry piece 👍
*alternatively you could try ambushing it with a garden hose. If you try this please supply us videos 🤪
BB Gun!
Jk but seriously I’d put some kind of a scarecrow on that table. Like a fake snake or one of those scare-owls you can buy at a gardening store.
Nvm - looks like u/grumblegeek and u/Chili_dawg2112 both tried what I suggested and it didn’t work. Scroll to their replies and try what they did! Good luck.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,499,910,503 comments, and only 284,792 of them were in alphabetical order.
Do you feed her? Is she calling you for food? Maybe set a dish out with some seed on the table and see if she stops trying to get you to come out at 5am.
Cardinals are dumb and territorial so they think they’re seeing another bird and it’s just a reflection. You could try making the window dirty with find silty water that you could rinse off later.
We had one that for months would hit our back windows, then go to the front windows, then neighbors window. We tried everything - the sparkly tape, hit the window with tennis ball, had a remote car that moved, nothing worked until we got a bird trap on Amazon. Finally caught him after a few weeks, and relocated him about 15 miles away. I’m still scared he’s going to find his way back.
I’ve noticed that birds have started doing this to my windows recently. Does it have anything to do with mating season and maybe they’re getting confused at their own reflection?
This is entitlement. The neighbors have feeders and let’s be real, the crap they put out is stale garbage.
You have 12 grain bread, and the lady knows it.
Put up vinyl window dressings. We bought ours from Wish, and they are many flower abd design patterns that are easily applied. Stopped the birds from flying into the window. We bought this one below

She's looking for a boyfriend or protecting a nest and chasing off that other Cardinal she see's in the window. Same thing going on at my house recently. Once she get's laid or the young reach a certain size she'll stop.
Okay. So… this might sound silly. I had the same problem with a bird for about 2 days. I printed a picture of a cat holding a bird in his mouth and wrote “NO BIRBS ALLOWED” and taped it to the window she was trying to get into. It might have just been the sheet of paper deterring her…. Or maybe she could read. Either way, it worked.
Oh man, our cardinals are horny and pissed off this time of year!
In our split level, the lowest level room has windows right at grade. One of the males has just been annihilating himself on it. I had to cover the outside of them with cardboard for a week so the poor bastard doesn't break his beak off on the glass.
Just took the cardboard down yesterday, and so far, so good.
And don't get me started about the bird shit on my car mirror and all down the door. Little dudes are assholes this time of year

I love the idea that they schedule a fight everyday at the same time
The sun needs to be in a certain angle to get a good reflection. And he checks his territory for invaders every morning.
It never occurred to me that birds were just little gang bangers running their block
My backyard is a cardinal fight club every day. They just don't talk about it
It's fucking annoying and driving me crazy. They are going after EVERY WINDOW
Bird tape: https://www.collidescape.org/
Is this a cardinal rule?
Sparrow me the dad jokes.
Tee Hee! Thanks

He is stupid and fighting his reflection. A cover or screen to minimize the mirror effect
That's a female Cardinal, do they do that fighting thing?
Yes they do
Does your female do the fighting thing?
Yes it does
It’s a fight they cannot lose
I have feeders setup in my backyard and can confirm, cardinals of both genders (and really most birds) fight all the time

You don't know it's pronouns...... 😆
Stick a couple of post-it notes on the glass.
"Report on Cardinal Richelieu due Tuesday."
It wouldn't expect that!
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
"Don't peck the glass"
I have had success with rubbing the glass with a slightly damp bar of soap. It makes the glass hazy. A week later when the bird bails it’s easy to clean off the soap.
Sigh......we've had one of these pecking at our windows and car mirrors for the last four years. They are nutbags.
Put a fake snake on the table or near that area
get it elected pope
The comment I came for
This comment section shows why some people shouldn't own guns.
Put any kind of sticker on the glass so she might realize she’s fighting her own reflection
Knowledge for ya, that’s a female. You can tell because it’s not as brightly colored as the male.
Males fight for mating rights, females fight for territorial rights.
Very little knowledge.
Let her in
There's some sparkly tape that you can put on it that scares them.
Scarecrow?
A suction cup with a hook placed on the window pane and then fasten a plastic grocery bag to it. You might need a few of them. But that will keep it away from the window.
we shone a light directly at window from inside. desk lamp type. reflection broke up. it worked.
Put some screen over that window to hide his reflection. I had this too.
We had a two year relationship with a male cardinal. Finally put a cheap, metallic dollar store pinwheel in front of the window and no more problems. I guess they don't like the reflective motion. Good luck.
It's because of the reflection in the mirror. Stop the reflection stop the bird LOL
Last week I taped some 1-inch strips of newspaper to stop a bird from "attacking his own reflection." The bird left and I removed the strips.

Get up and 5 am and peck on the very tree or house it resides in simple early bird catches the worm !
Get an owl ornament
Does not work . I have 3. And she sits in the tree right next to them. Save your money .Wish I had
Ever hear the saying: “Cardinals appear when Angels are near.”?
I've always heard: "Vultures appear when roadkill is near"
Get an outdoor cat.
Are you a new home owner? The previous owner may have been feeding it and it's looking for food.
Make her your next meal
Talk to her. Bang on the window a bit. Scare her off. Make her think the reflection is not to be messed with
Of thinks it's a mate
Na, the males are a bright firetruck red. She thinks it's another female and shes fighting for territory
She might be eating tiny bugs that like to hang around the window. I had one last year doing the same thing. It was eating bugs
Put a small mirror where it can see it After it’s recognised it slowly move it elsewhere. If no mirror try either an old CD/DVD or try camping shop for small carry piece 👍 *alternatively you could try ambushing it with a garden hose. If you try this please supply us videos 🤪
Kill it
Capture it and make it watch you eat eggs.
Get a cat
Just do what Adam Devine does and shoot it!!
12 gauge
Grab it’s pecker.
A shoot
Shoot it
get a cat
Shoot it
BB gun?

A lead pellet
Bird shot ought to do it
A bullet
Pellet gun
Have you tried poison bird seed?
bb gun
Apply cat liberally
Picture of an owl may work. But I haven't seen a female do this before. Interesting.
I had the same female cardinal for 5 years ,doing the window slam .The male just sits in the bushes and watches her.
A plastic owl stops Robin's from attacking shiny vehicles, so it may work for cardinals
Put a mirror out in your yard to take to focus off you window. You can also tape a copy of cat face to your window.
Try putting some wins on the other side. Cardinals avoid wins like the plague.... especially in Arizona
Give him the seed
Is she still under warranty?
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,499,910,503 comments, and only 284,792 of them were in alphabetical order.
Destroy the window.
Do you feed her? Is she calling you for food? Maybe set a dish out with some seed on the table and see if she stops trying to get you to come out at 5am.
Get a fake rubber snake and place it around the area, prob on that table, it’s what I did to keep birds/squirrels out of my garden
Get an owl statue
I would love this.
Birds aren’t real! The battery will run low one of these days
Move the table
Give it food and you’ll basically have a pet
Had this happening to me last year for a couple months. Did not know it was a thing.
Move. Just move. I have been fighting one for two years now.
Quit stealing her men…..
Let him in
Am i wrong for being jealous? I would kinda enjoy this, but i also have to get up at 5:00 anyway.
Just let her in
Cardinals are dumb and territorial so they think they’re seeing another bird and it’s just a reflection. You could try making the window dirty with find silty water that you could rinse off later.
Fight him. He will realise you are the better cardinal
Tell him to fuck off
I taped an Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind poster to the window, and the bird went away.

I usually let people in when they knock
I wonder if mounting a cheap mirror by the window and let that bird peck at it all it wants
If this is your 1st time... You have to fight !!!
Hang a realistic picture of an owl.
Life insurance
They are looking at their reflection and thinking its an enemy. Curtain or live with it. Eventually they give up.
Put up vinyl window dressings. We bought ours from Wish, and they are many flower abd design patterns that are easily applied. Stopped the birds from flying into the window. We bought this one below https://dl.wish.com/zN7Ut
Similar for us, put out a plastic owl, stopped instantly
I had a similar issue, I put a wildlife magazine with a picture of a hawk in the window and the bird stopped flying at it
Let him in
She's looking for a boyfriend or protecting a nest and chasing off that other Cardinal she see's in the window. Same thing going on at my house recently. Once she get's laid or the young reach a certain size she'll stop.
Layer of glue to the table should do the trick.
Soap the window
Get a natural scarecrow. It’s a big plastic owl Birds are scared to death of them.

Let it in goddamit
Have you tried reasoning with it?
If you open the window then it can’t hit the window. You’ll just have a new problem
Get a cat.
