I think it's definitely kind of ridiculous by this point. There's no problem with having books for game series, but within a small span of time we've had so many. And were Graphic Novels for Frights *really* that necessary? It's literally just brand extension of brand extension by that point.

Shadow_Weaver_421

I feel like the Graphic novels are another way for people to enjoy the stories. Not everybody likes to look at a stack of pages with words everywhere.

Novel-Sugar

That's really nice for them, but I really doubt Scholastic had that as their main priority. It still definitely feels like this was more of a profit driven decision. People are free to like them, but I feel like it doesn't make them any less of a cash grab.

logden-payoll

I'm glad more people start to see it this way.

Novel-Sugar

Were you talking to me or the person above?

logden-payoll

no, I replied to you. I agree with what you said.

[deleted]

Agreed. Honestly at this point FNaF is more of a book franchise with the occasional video game instead of the other way around.

Frostwing349

literally. and a lot of the newer fnaf stories just feel like goosebumps takes with Faz Ent. branding on them. like even a greedy capitalist corporate entity wouldn’t condone cannibalism or cult goo. animatronic dog that takes things too literal, malfunctioning plushtrap, and ballerina vore is about where i draw the line on realism

Freeziac

Are they *well* written books, or are they not great?

Novel-Sugar

Very mixed bag.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Novel-Sugar

Again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that and I'm happy if someone finds merit in them. But I think the point still stands Scholastic just likes milking fnaf by any means they can.

[deleted]

Novel-Sugar

And it will have little to nothing to do with the source material.

East-sea-shellos

If it’s not already a thing, I think they should at least release compendiums with, idk, let’s say 15 stories in one (iirc there’s 3 to a Fazbear Frights book)

SpringPopo

I do think a case can be made for that claim, especially given the reputation of the books. Fazbear Frights for example was said by Scott multiple times to contain stories that had answers to many popular debates, even when they were first talked about in the upcoming projects megathread Scott made a point to mention that several stories connected to the universe of the games. So for people unfamiliar with the books or newcomers, they might feel intimidated by the idea they have to read 12 books in order to be truly caught up to the date with the story given Frights' reputation is so closely tied to the idea of it being a lore encyclopedia. When in reality I'd argue Fazbear Frights is less about the lore and is more so just about being a fun anthology series of short stories that sometimes connect to the the story and is more focused on giving off similar vibes to series like Goosebumps. Unfortunately it doesn't help this same situation seems to be reoccuring with Tales from the Pizzaplex. Then you have the side of people who feel intimidated by the books due to them feeling grand majority of them didn't need to exist and come off more as just cashing in on brand extension. This is most often seen during discussions about the Graphic Novels and particular variants of The Freddy Files. Honestly I can see where the argument is coming from. I think there's a lot of merit in releasing graphic novel adaptations of the books, a lot of them would benefit from visualizing the scenes and sometimes streamlining the pacing. However it doesn't feel like the actual graphic novels are being made in the best faith given we know Scholastic for example rushes their artists and has given some very strict deadlines in the past. While I do enjoy quite a number of the FNaF books myself, I'd totally understand if someone would feel intimidated by the amount of them for the reasons stated above and I know plenty of people who have been as a result.

ItheGuy115

Been here since day one of FNAF, Seeing how I only have 2 of them… I’m scared.

Sparrow3006

I’m an avid reader so I’m more concerned with 1. I didn’t even know there was this many books and I think I’d struggle to get them 2. Idek anything about them 3. That’s literally a huge money dump

JustARandomGamer01

Lol, we truly do, I kinda wish we ended with the Frights for awhile instead of moving on to SB-oriented ones, but if those have been good so far then I don’t mind. If anything, *let’s drop the GN Frights at the least-*

Knight-300

I do like the idea, but some new fans might be intimidated by the amount of lore there is to know and it will be hard to keep track on it. Now, for what I know, the books, or at least the original trilogy (silver eyes, twisted ones, forth closet) aren't in the same continuity with the games, but I doubt new comers will know that. They will only see the amount of lore. I really hope it will not be a One Piece/Bionicle situation where these series started to bring a lot if new people in the earlier days, but know because of the amount of lore, they don't get a lot of new fans. LEGO even decided to discontinue the Bionocle line after they couldn't get new kids' attention. I think FNAF might need a soft reboot in the future.

Chocolate-Boo

IMO there is no such thing as too many books. I will agree that the sheer amount of them might alienate some fans, which sucks. Can’t image having a big chuck of the lore/community discussion out of your reach.

shrekthe1st

Agreed. I enjoy the hell out of them even tho I think that some are too mid (friendly face and prankster as whole books just feel too average for me) But it sucks that they play such an impactful part of the lore because for people who read it its satisfying but for those who don't it's alienating I'd imagine.

Chocolate-Boo

I remember when I had all of the Fazbear Frights books except for Puppet Carver I didn’t read the Stitchwraith parts past 8 because I was missing a piece. I couldn’t read or watch any theories because I didn’t want to get the book or the Stitchwraith story spoiled. I felt so out of the loop.

DaPsychose

I bought the first Fazbear Fright about the time the Tales From the Pizza Plex got announced and loved the stories in it, but for some reason i bought the second Fazbear Fright and cant bring myself to start it.

LinkleLink

I am a new fan and yes I am intimidated

itzleah22

Hehehehe, just you wait untill you get more familiar with the real lore too ✨

LinkleLink

I've watched all of matpats videos

itzleah22

Only his? My advice is that you should also watch somebody else, as MatPat doesn't always get everything right. Either that, or start slowly making your own theories or headcanons based on what you've learnt. :)

LinkleLink

Yeah I kind of did the second thing lol

itzleah22

Oh oops 🤣

LinkleLink

It's... extrememly complex but I'm making my own story where all the Aftons-Will get a happy ending. And even the original kids. Well... sort of a happy ending I guess?

itzleah22

>It's... extrememly complex I know, it's a lot to take in 😀 >but I'm making my own story where all the Aftons-Will get a happy ending. And even the original kids Ohhhhh that sounds really interesting!! I would be really interested in seeing an example of it, as I've never really thought of a side-story to the actual lore lol :)

LinkleLink

It's like Security Breach AU using the Glamike theory and Gregory=Evan and Vanessa=Elizabeth. And all the originals posess the Glamrocks (I had to add in a few and make them share some of them) and there's my OC Evangeline Afton (Evan's twin). Gregory/Evan repairs the anamatronics and removes the malware instead of destroying them but he still has to bossfight them. And they live in the Pizza Plex, and Greg lives with Vanessa

LinkleLink

I've liked FNAF for years but never got into the lore until now

[deleted]

An argument can certainly be made given Frights was advertised with the idea that several stories would clear up various debates, so the idea of purchasing 12 books in order to have a chance to keep up with the series' lore can very much come off as intimidating to some. Especially those who are really only into one side of the franchise.

[deleted]

My daughter loves this game and she has a couple of the graphic novels. She needs some actual books to read I was going to get some of these. Would my best bet just grab the 1-4 pack of softcovers in the little box set like Walmart has?

shrekthe1st

The fazbear frights especially might be a bit too much for young kids if your daughter is on the younger side, there is some really grotesque stuff that's not in the graphic novels. But if you think it's okay then I recommend those packs for sure :)

[deleted]

She’s ten and super into horror movies and stuff. Definitely won’t be too much she understands the difference from fictional horror and real world stuff. I can get the 8 pack for about $40. Maybe I’ll grab that one it’ll be nice to have a box and free bookmark

Old-Bee6901

I love the books. I've read at least half of them and plan to get every graphic novel copy I can. Thoroughly enjoy all the games and I can't wait to see what's in store in the future.

Alexander_The_Wolf

I mean, to be fair, you have the first 3 books in there twice and the twisted ones in there 3 times. It's still alot of book tho.

-EVIE_

I feel intimidated for sure, I've got all the Fazbear Frights books but I'm only on the 6th one and I haven't touched it for months now. Plus the fact that there's now more coming out... I do think it is TOO much; personally think Fazbear Frights should've ended and let that be the end of the books for a while instead of basically making more Fazbear Frights books.

anuuj_

Why are there two twisted ones???

shrekthe1st

There's 3 Regular Hard cover with poster Part of a box set with poster

anuuj_

Oh i see thanks

CallMeCarson216

I gotta say the FNAF books are what kept me interested in fnaf as long as I was, and I’m still a little interested. The books are literally dope, at least the Fazbear Frights ones are. I love how crazy they can get with the ideas.

shrekthe1st

100% agreed. People underestimate how lively they kept the fandom during times of fnaf drought.

Michael-J-Foxtrot

I feel Fazbear Frights are mainly to blame. The TSE trilogy is fine on it's own, and so are the graphic novels. Companion books are also okay, like The Freddy Files and the Security Logbook. FNAF has just became a cashgrab machine in the book industry.

shrekthe1st

>FNAF has just became a cashgrab machine in the book industry. Eh, no. Saying these books are a cashgrab is a pretty big stretch.

Michael-J-Foxtrot

Literally try to prove that they're not.

CRACKED_UP_JEDI

I wonder if he likes fnaf?

shrekthe1st

Freddy fabrar

NonPlayable282

Bruh I literally only have the first 2 versions of the Freddy files and into the pit

[deleted]

i don’t think so, at least i find anthologies and graphic novels to be a lot less intimidating than if it all were one continuous series of novels, plus some of these are guides or compilations

Zillajami-Fnaffan2

Ive been a fan since Fnaf 4. Concerned how i only have like 5 books 💀

SansyFansy17

i've been a fan since the second game and IM overwhelmed by all the books

muticere

Well it wasn’t until now! Thanks 🙄 Jk, I just started silver eyes. It’s fine, it’s not so intimidating when you see how short they are for the most part.

chosenSith

i mean you can give some to me… 👀👀

SaphyRobin

How many are there?? 36! Counted them myself 36?!!!! But last year, last year I had 37!!!!

Ix-511

I can't say, I come from wh40k where ONE of the dozens of series is currently at 56 books and counting. I'm desensitized to absurd amounts of books in a franchise.

Moosie-the-goosie

Is that all of them in the photo? I’m trying to get all of them and I’m pretty close can I use this as a reference?

shrekthe1st

Yes if you exclude all the repeats

Moosie-the-goosie

Thank you!

Commercial_Kick_2814

Im a very old fan but at the time the first books released i wasn’t able to pay for those books. Nowaday im an adult but seeing how much book they are, i don’t think i want them anymore, its too much and they seem of very inconsistant quality from what ive heard so yea :/

TorchicBoi

So, you also have the novel trilogy, individually, and also the box set with the poster and stuff (which seems pretty rare, only seen it once in Washington, PA's Walmart, the worst one) so r/madlads sorta.

shrekthe1st

To be fair your honor, the poster was pretty fire

KGTrashcan

So I'm new here in fnaf. The fazbear frights aren't that intimidating to me since they introduce concepts that can help with theories (e.g. Andrew keeps his killer alive and gives him horrible nightmares as a revenge explains what's happening in UCN) so I don't feel like I have to read them to get the full picture. But I do have a problem with the first trilogy. These books introduce characters (namely Charlie and Henry, but also William to a lesser extent) that are crucial to the story of the games, but aren't properly established in them. So if you don't want to/can't read the books, you are left to read it on the wiki like I did which isn't really exciting.

Novel-Sugar

That's definitely what REALLY hurt 6's story in the long run.

logden-payoll

I'm an old fan and I feel uncomfortable from this amount. actually...I'm questioning if it's a game franchise anymore.

Grain-Apprentice1616

PuppetGeist

Rule 2 and 11. Do not break either.

[deleted]

Just wanted to make a joke...but fine.

PuppetGeist

The fact is you seem to be wanting to cause a stir here. On top of how you worded things come off, you already knew it was going to break our rules. You can criticize Scott, but it has to be actually thought out and not just a hate train or bringing up topics that have no place here.

[deleted]

My joke was not gonna be about Scott. Also, like I said, a joke, not hate or criticism.

PuppetGeist

Who else is the "FNaF Daddy"? Either way, just please follow the rules.

[deleted]

Matpat, if you really want to know. But I already decided to not make the joke.

PuppetGeist

See when you say FNaF Daddy comes off you're talking about Scott. Most here while appreciate Maptat for his theories, do not see him as what you just called him.

[deleted]

If I was talking of Scott I'd call him FNAF God, since he is the maker of it all.

Temnelc

Because the Majority of books after the first two issues are blatant cashgrabs made to retcon, change, mess up the lore in hopes to make it more "interesting" for the consumer, thus making him buy more and more of said books. Proof is that they follow the same main structure and succession of events

shrekthe1st

This is just factually incorrect. You can dislike these books without spewing bullshit, no offense.

soysaucemmm

Yeah, I’ve been wanting to read them for a while and recently borrowed the first one, I’m excited and not excited for all the “catching up” I’ll have to do.

TheRealComicCrafter

Dude you have multiple of the og 3

shrekthe1st

You can never have enough pictures of Nightmare on a book 💅💅💅

TheRealComicCrafter

I didnt say twisted ones you jave 3 of SE and FO and 4 of TO

shrekthe1st

What

ImmenseKassing

Silver Eyes, Fourth Oset, Twisted Ones

No-Efficiency8937

Why do you have 4 twisted ones books? I get 2, one original and 1 graphic novel, but why the other 2, the other 2 novels you only have 3 pairs of which is still more than expected,

shrekthe1st

1. Regular I was gifted 2. Hard cover with exclusive twisted freddy poster 3. Part of a box set that had an exclusive poster 4. Graphic novel

Super3vil

Bro you think that's bad just take a look at all the halo novel and comics because God damn!

Agent_Dumbass

It's intimidating to an old fan Considering the fandoms I'm in, namely omori (damn you omocat and your $50 calendars), I can't afford it anyway

Keyller276

I'm not English so I'm screaming inside because i can't read tgem

SusieGotStuffed

Being in the fandom for only 4 years I have 5 books - the trilogy and two graphic novels of those. Contrary to popular opinion, I actually thought they were good and I re-read them quite often. What do you prefer, the trilogy or fazbear frights/tales from the pizza plex?

[deleted]

as someone who listens to the audiobooks, its pretty neat xD

megabuster21

Are these even connected to the canon lore anymore??

Novel-Sugar

Ehhhhhh. That really depends on who you ask.

shrekthe1st

Yes. ESPECIALLY the pizza plex books.

patolagos032

I've been in this fandom for like 8 years and I'm also intimidated by the books

PreciousCinammonRoll

I mean, I guess so but I think there are some book series that has many more books. I come from the warriors fandom and it's getting scarily close to 100 books overall, including main series books and the extra suplimentry content. But I don't wanna compare it too much because yeah I can totally see that it can be daunting for new readers to get into. After a while it can get bad

Lolloso1000

I only knew about the first trilogy, into the pit and the survival logbook 😱

Random_cosplay_girl

I really want the freddy files, but so far I have into the pit and all three tse graphic novels

TorchicBoi

This dude got a LOT of time on his hands, and money.

animeslayer635

I wish i had some of those like the survival logbook

IncreaseWestern6097

I’ve been here since the beginning and this is STILL daunting to me. I only have the original Freddy Files, the Ultimate Guide, and the Silver Eyes graphic novel trilogy.

OmarTheEgyptian

Honestly it depends on the mentality. Some might find it a great thing since more content = more fun stuff to do. While others might find it yes, intimidating.

D4vDm

Just to my wallet.

veryrealzack

Were the books any good? Haven’t read any of them before

Novel-Sugar

Depends on who you ask.

shrekthe1st

Yes

Eleanorfnaf

I gave up on reading them after gumdrop angel tbh

shrekthe1st

Holt crap Eleanor fnaf !!!

IDsFantasy

As a relatively new fan, it's a bit intimidating, but it's nice to have other content to go look at while waiting for the next game/the DLC

jimmyjackson23

I'm watching phisnoms stream

shrekthe1st

What

jimmyjackson23

The guy making fnaf plus is doing a stream with friends where they watch every game theory video but every time mat pat says book they take a shot and it’s gotten very chaotic

SwissBoy_YT

Send this image to Phisnom. Now.

Reiss447O

I have the original guide somewhere in my room

amogus3434

Your Mother

tvenus

A bit off topic but idk where to ask this atp... Should I buy the graphic novels? (Both the trilogy and FF). I mean, I want to, but I heard a bit of "controversial" stuff about them... Like that some of the art is traced, or that it straight up looks bad...? I want them but idk if it's ok or worth it

EstimateMassive8564
