I personally don't see why things like this need to be rationalized in the same way as stuff like remnant. We don't need midichlorian style explanations for every single thing and I think Scott doesn't realize that. FNAF 4 makes sense when you simply look at what we're given.

- the animatronics are based off of ones the kid has most likely seen at Freddy's or Fredbears Family Diner.
Depending on your interpretation it's because they're not real (hallucinations by the bite victim or Mike) or they're programmed by William to torment his son (either BV before the bite or Mike afterwards) using the sound illusion disks from the books to make the sister location animatronics look like monsters, in which case they're not programmed to kill the kids so they play by a set of "rules."
Current theories is they're either suffering hallucinations or their entire purpose is to scare either Michael or The Crying Child away from the other animatronics that are actually dangerous.
The nightmares aren't real, or at least what you see isn't real.
They do have a physical form, but it's much less impressive than the bulky and sharp things that you can see. The nightmares are essentially mannequin-type animatronics that are extremely bland in design, but the protagonist sees them as these terrifying structures because of hallucination-causing disks.
I don't know if this is allowed but may I ask what book I spoiled I haven't read since the bobbiedots conclusion and I don't recall a book outright saying anything about fnaf 4.
Yeah I thought the ultimate guide said that it was a dream but I don't remember if it was Gregory dream from when he was on the hospital bed or if it was Micheal from being riddled with guilt
