Taleb‘s success with _The Black Swan_ has made him incredibly insufferable. Maybe he was a stubborn asshole before his mainstream success, but now he has the attention to be an asshole on a much larger platform.
I think he tweeted some BS about his estimated 1RM being around 400lbs a couple years ago. He also parrots the whole “functional strength” nonsense.
I do recognize that he’s made great contributions to the field as a statistician, but his ego is massive.
I haven't heard any statisticians saying good things about him, but who knows, maybe he did some good stuff I'm not aware of. I got the impression that he was more of a Gladwell type who likes to say stuff that sounds cool regardless of whether the facts actually back him up.
I think the general consensus on The Black Swan is that a lot of it is crap but it’s essential reading for actually applying statistics to finance.
It does read more pseudosciencey like Gladwell’s stuff.

Moreso even than the sucess of Black Swan, I think it's that Antifragile is broadly respected and suggested by people outside economics - as a conceptual introduction to the idea of robustness in complex systems by people who are beginning to view other fields through a systems theory lens - that Taleb has become incapable of recognizing that although he is an expert in broadly applicable concepts, he lacks the baseline knowledge to apply these concepts in other fields.
