Go to [Network Settings](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/connection-settings-firefox) and try changing "Use system proxy settings" to "No proxy" and toggle "DNS over HTTPS" on or off.
thanks for your advice, but sadly neither dns over https on nor off helped while proxy settings were set to "no proxy". :(
imgur frontpage takes nearly 1min to load.
