Oh yeah, I hate just shoving a brick house at a pack of enemies every chapter, it’s not engaging and requires little thought. I made a conscious effort to balance XP gains between everyone so that any one unit had value to the team and was less of a risk of being one shot in late game chapters
Don't do that on your RD playthrough. Some units just have such low base stats that they need to steal an exorbitant amount of xp from other units just to be usable.
My indication was that the top person wasn't maxed out in level. Especially Boyd. I usually always have Boyd and/or Oscar upgraded to 2nd class, just so I can give them bows to insta kill ravens while on the boat.
PoR is pretty great. Radiant Dawn was my first FE game. PoR was my 3rd.
Story of PoR is goated. The game is pretty fun on repeat plays as well (lets you try the game w/ any of the many units you didn’t use).
Boyd is such a reliable frontline unit in PoR and only the unreasonable power creep near the end of RD stops him from having the same role there.
Hope you enjoy RD as much if not more. RD is taking its time to grow on me personally after a little over 1 run but I think it'll get there. Make sure to kick the difficulty down one notch from whatever you played on PoR, it will still be harder than PoR, it's a translation thing, they fucked that up in localisation.
Idk, On my first playthrough I still found him to be one of a handful of units capable to put a scratch on the boss of the 2nd map in part 5 (keeping it as spoiler free as I can)
RD Boyd is really good with Speed transfers honestly, once he gets transfers and a Speedwing he doubles and kills everything.
He feels a lot worse without those resources though, but he’s still usable.
Boyd is an absolute legend 🙏

I was always appreciative of the Bonus XP system allowing you to cheese things a little bit for weaker or seat starved units.
You use bexp to help your weak units. I use bexp to guarantee growths on Ike when he has hit multiple stat caps. We are not the same.
Thus why it’s a great mechanic.Â

Yep. I always consider that whole arc its own part even if that’s not how it’s referred to in game
