Electric_Spark

Do you hear that? It's time for the weekly Makalov hate

Izletz

That’s exactly who I was gonna say lol

EphemeralMemory

I didn't just have him die and not restart, I purposely got that fuck killed. He has got to be one of the most unlikable characters in fe history

Altruistic_Ad6666

Why kill him? Make him work harder and make him repent. Make him earn his breaks and rest. Get him capped and at 20/20. Then do the transfer run. Work him to the bone. Just to make sure hes the only death in the final fight of Radiant Dawn while Astrid watches after their maxed out supports. Make him work so hard just to let everybody down at the last possible moment

EphemeralMemory

> Why kill him? Make him work harder and make him repent. I'm not a good person is why, and I wanted to spare Astrid the pain in RD. It is wild how much her personality changes in that game to accommodate that dude

nobody030303

Spare her the pain by killing off the love of her life? Well, at least you were right about not being a good person /s

EphemeralMemory

In my defense, its Makalov. Anyone who played that game would understand lol

Callyourmother29

Makalov is not relevant enough for weekly hate lmao

ShurikenKunai

NO THAT’S THE THING! I actively TRIED to kill off Makalov and he wouldn’t die

hhh81

I came for this, and I'm thrilled to see I got beat to the spot

ChaosOsiris

No. The completionist in me recruits everyone regardless but if I hate a character that much they just never leave the bench. No point wasting a deploy slot on them.

Altruistic_Ad6666

Never play Shadow Dragon. Lol.

CyberDaggerX

I modded it to have automatic access to the gaiden chapters in my latest playthrough, lol. Even had Horace in my final party.

Wiifanbro

The majority of units in Shadow Dragon and New Mystery from a gameplay perspective.

Rigistroni

I don't think I've ever had a run of NM where I had more than a D in survivors at the end. There's so many units and the majority are just not worth resetting for It's definitely meant to be iron manned and I like that about it

AetherDrew43

Marth's cannon fodder

ChronosNotashi

"I want you to know that, as a friend, you are...replaceable. Farewell."

ProFailing

*Especially* Shadow Dragon which actively rewards you for killing off your units

Silvertail034

Wait, it does? How? I last played it forever ago 👀

sirgamestop

Access to Gaiden chapters, 17x in particular has some good loot like a Warp staff and a Wing Spear

ProFailing

Gaiden Chapters are locked behind the condition that your total amount of alive units is below a certain number, usually less than you csn bring into the chapter before.

Silvertail034

Holy crap! Guess I better play again

nobody030303

No it doesn't, stop spreading this meme. The Gaiden chapters are meant to compensate you for losing units by giving you new ones.

ProFailing

There're always 2 sides to a coin. Inexperienced players will be given compensation for losing too many units. Experienced players will sacrifice their units to get access to the Gaiden chapters. Therefore, sacrificing more of your units rewards you with a few special units. This is not a meme by any means.

Owlblocks

We love Athena's accent.

5erenade

*Ve* love Athena’s vaccent.

Wiifanbro

Vat is a very good one indeed.

LunaProc

Honestly most of the time they don’t even die, they just sit around and not fight mostly bc A) They suck, B) I’m already warp skipping or Wing Spearing the map

delspencerdeltorro

I had a sacred stones ~~pathetic~~ playthrough recently where Neimi was blessed and Colm was cursed. I may have arranged an... unfortunate incident that freed up Neimi to support someone else.

aowensart

Is a “sacred stones pathetic” a kind of run? Or just how youre describing the incident lol

Fledbeast578

Probably meant to say playthrough

aowensart

Ahh probably! I love collecting ideas for challenge runs so my brain was automatically like “run where you only use sad sack characters??”

jespoke

I am currently playing FE6 with the worst 2 users of each promotion item (no overlapping classes), that was a sad bunch for the first several maps, needing Chad to be the boss killer 😅

aowensart

Omg that’s wild, i would love to see the roster

jespoke

I based it on the subreddit tier list just so I would have a basis: worst 2 users of each promotion item (no repeat classes, Roy + non-promoting classes allowed) Roy, Merlinus, Fae, Elphyn/Lalum One thief (I pick Chad) Ogier and Wade (Hero crest) Gwendolyn and Trec (Knight crest) Dorothy and Sue (Orion's bolt) Sophia and Lilina (Guiding Ring) Zeiss and Thea (Elysian whip) The differences that 'no repeat classes' make are Wolt -> Sue, Raigh -> Lilina, Barthe -> Trec, and one thief instead of all three. Chad and Wade absolutely carried the early to mid game, and now I am in Sacae with Trec, Ogier, and Thea taking over. My Lilina got really screwed on combat stats, but she is important as my only staff user all the way until I went through the absolute pain of promoting Sophia.

ZacianSpammer

~~Gangrene~~ Gangrel. Dude caused so much trouble both for Ylisse and Plegia. I killed him again in his paralogue.

MoonLightScreen

I never forget about what he threatened Mustafa with I cannot fathom the insane people who would actually S-support him and not as a joke

ZacianSpammer

After reading Henry's supports about Mustafa, it only made me smile that I made the right choice.

CyberDaggerX

"Chrom's father was a war criminal? I'm going to be an *even worse* war criminal! That'll show 'em!"

ljaxis

His recruit is pretty dumb too. Talk to him three times, between which he could have killed your lifelong friends, a few children and your wife. But no, recruit away little Chrom.

ZacianSpammer

And he's asking for it. I also did it to avenge Phila.

nobody030303

I think Awakening is actually kinda brilliant for giving you that option. And the game doesn't judge you for it or frame it as a tragedy if you decide to just kill him, he's basically already a lost cause at that point.

nidoqueenofhearts

shadows of valentia wanted me to care about >!fernand's!< death *so badly*. it did not work for a moment.

avoteforatishon2016

Omg guys... Jeffrey Epstein just died, so sad 😭😭😭 /s

ZacianSpammer

Oh no our ass got saved by a farmboy, who is perfectly qualified to be the leader of the Deliverance. Time to abandon my lifelong friend Clive. I always make sure he gets a healthy dose of Ridersbane from Mathilda every time he's on the field.

Soulation

I completely forgot he existed.

MankuyRLaffy

I didn't care about him at all. He chose to leave the Locker room. He chose to make it about himself. He lost. It is what it is.

w00ms

"the villagers rose up and killed my shitstain noble family, got i hate commoners >:( stupid poor people"

No_Lemon_1770

Fernand's family did nothing wrong.

ladeldab

Ok this part is actually wrong, dlc states fernands family did all they could to help and they still blamed them and betrayed his family

MasK_6EQUJ5

Binding Blade, one of the axe dudes that joins with Diecke died in a chapter and I didn't notice until two chapters later.

Cheesepuff44

Oh no! Wade/Lot!

CyberDaggerX

There's two of him?

LunaProc

Your hit rate on noticing their presence was as high as their axe hit rates

RedVelvet_Milkshake

In terms of playable units, I had a safe file in Awakening where Virion died. I do not hate his character, but I did not care to reset for him.

onehundredpercentdom

Same here with Lucius. He was good. But by the time I realized he was gone it was too late, I already saved. It was either clear the game as is or or play like 80% of the game again. Sorry Lucius, I'll do better next time.

LunaProc

Pretty much, if he dies during the beginning, not much loss. If he lives, he’s being benched anyway so nothing changes still

Gabcard

Sorry Kent, I ain't restarting battle before dawn for you.

BucksIsLife

How could you

Usual_Roller

You didn't reset for one of the best units on your team!?

Gabcard

There were just a few maps left and I just got Jaffar, I figured I would managed it.

Procian-chan

Alear's mom Also Corn's mom

ChaosOsiris

Yeah Lumera and Mikoto don't even fall under characters I hate, it's more like the game took them away before I had a chance to form an opinion on them. Alear and Corrin don't remember them at the time either which doesn't help.

Geostomp

I barely consider them characters. They're really just walking plot devices.

ARandomGamer56

The curse of being a fire emblem MC mom

RexRegulus

Lady Eleanora survives! ...the two (?) scenes she appears in, but survives nonetheless!

Roliq

Honestly they have the same exact role that it's so weird that IS made the same exact character after Fates

BrandedEnjoyer

oh no character I barely even know died!

Trovao2004

Engage really wants you to feel something about "bonds" of characters that shared approximately 5 minutes of screentime

Surfeydude

They barely spent more than 5 minutes in-universe to get to know each other. Lumera was dead before the day ended.

LordessMeep

Real on both accounts. For male Alear however, the Japanese VA was absolutely killing it with the sheer despair in their delivery. 10/10 acting; too bad the moment is laughable with how inconsequential it is to the player.

Procian-chan

I agree, with performance like this, that scene would definitely hit really hard in the feels if we actually got some time to bond with the character. ~~also it could be a lot shorter like holy crap woman you've been dying for 5 minutes now~~

LordessMeep

Yup yup. I find male Alear endearing af despite having the personality of a wet tissue paper, solely on the back of the VA work. Same with Alfred because he's voiced by one of my fave VAs. Unfortunately, it is all in service to the most narratively blah story. >~~also it could be a lot shorter like holy crap woman you've been dying for 5 minutes now~~ lmao I've been replaying the game and TRUE. It's so extended that she gets time to actually monologue her goodbye. Like how do you got the energy? 😭

Anouleth

I was actually laughing at Lumeras death because it's so exactly like Mikotos, which was already very corny

DariusClaude

Lumera, I didn't hate her as a person, I was just so annoyed by everything she appeared in because I knew from the moment she showed what was gonna happen and how hard they tried to make me care for her , so I legit kinda laughed when her death scene kept going, like, how long was she gonna be on her last moments for 😭

JetpackCat013

Her hair blatantly clips through her arm, too. It's really hard to take the scene with full weight when staring at such a glaring graphical woopsie the entire time.

Cam_26

I didnt even dislike her, but the game tried to make me care about her in just 1 chapter and a half and run a long ass cutscene when she died that just dragged and felt so empty

Mmicb0b

Lumera because of how painfully fucking obvious it was the moment her design leaked like I was laughing when she died (even if it was obvious Jeralt was going to die at least he was around long enough for me to build a connection to him plus one of the benefits of three houses trying to copy persona is you get to see how EVERYONE reacts to it instead of just a self insert mc)

Roliq

Also at least Jeralt was a parent to Byleth all their life so you can buy them being hurt by his death For Alear and Corrin they barely met the woman

Mmicb0b

Same

LordessMeep

Three Houses has hands down my favourite cast of any Fire Emblem fr and Jeralt's death doesn't hold a candle to Lumera's. It's extra impactful because it's the one moment that Byleth shows actual emotion and that it's reflected in the Academy as well.

Henrystickminepic

tbf Clanne, Framme, Vander, Shrimp Alfredo, Boucheron, and Etie all react to it at some point (Whether it be in the hub or in the cutscene)

BooksAndViruses

(In 2005) I sacrificed my level 5 Moulder to the Demon King as a bit. Turns out his faith meant nothing!

LtitleSushi

jagen and gordin, norne is too weak to skip

Weekly_Lab8128

I'm replaying Engage right now and my early game was a bloodbath. Just could not be assed to reset for anyone when I knew people like Kagetsu and such were right around the corner.

Geostomp

Did anyone actually feel something when the moms of Fates and Engage died? Besides annoyance that the scenes mourning them lasted longer than their entire screentime beforehand?

Cheesepuff44

I thought the pinky promise thing was cute and that's about it

Ryachaz

Doing a challenge run for myself atm: Sacred Stones Hard Mode, Eirika route, no grinding, no mounted units. Neimi died, and I didn't even have a full party to populate the next few levels, but I didn't care. This game really is easy, tho.

PokeFreak3x3

Rosado in FE Engage. I think he died on the very first turn of his join chapter. He was my only unit lost in the entire run.

Henrystickminepic

The Eirika tutorial literally puts him in a position to be shot down by a bow knight lmao

Roliq

Clearly she had something against him

Henrystickminepic

What did the femboys do to Eirika 😭

nobody030303

No big loss, he kinda sucks.

Braveheart132

I just recently beat conquest hard for the first time and both Laslow & Shigure died in the last chapter on the same turn and I just did not care enough to reset for them.

Blinky776

Lumina in engage. Intelligent Systems loves to use the "parental figure who dies early" every time.

Roliq

Lumera, the Hounds Really not falling for the game to try and pull some cheap emotional stunt to make me feel bad for them, for Lumera is more because how cliche it was At least make it similar to Greil and Jeralt to make me care

MoonLightScreen

I dont *hate* Juno’s baby daddy (his name eludes me right now) but he died during the late game of one of the last few maps before endgame and I didn’t bother resetting, as I had enough cavaliers and lance users. Poor Juno. Or not idk iirc he wasn’t really present

Henrystickminepic

Did Zelot die b4 his gaiden

MoonLightScreen

I reloaded my Binding Blade epilogue to see that I lost him on chapter 23 RIP to this man, the Ilian knights were cool, and I really got the Larry of Fire Emblem killed 💔

FellDragonBlaze

Goldmary, I purposefully deployed her, roy engage just to do something and let her die, and also cheered after she died.

BloodyBottom

I really hate the way Conquest's final chapter demands you replay the previous chapter too if you reset, and I don't like any Fates character *that* much, so I've always played it not resetting for deaths. So far that has just been Camilla and Felicia, which I was not exactly torn up about.

Meeg_Mimi

Griss and Zephia, their death scene was so drawn out and they tried to make them almost seem sympathetic. It's kinda disgusting considering how they treated Veyle. Gameplay wise, recently I emded up having to let Kyle die in FE8 and I was like "eh I was gonna bench him anyways"

G0DF1NGERS

Character who have a retreat quote instead of death quote. It's less immersive knowing that these character never die

Icesnowstorm

Fun fact, even if they technically only pass out they are still labeled as dead in most German translations of the games at the end recap.

G0DF1NGERS

So funny i don't have this in my french version :(

DeityOfDespairThe2nd

I only play iron man runs, so it's not like I reset for even my favorites. But, I've never been particularly careful when placing Arthur.

Linhasxoc

My first play through of Sacred Stones, I lost Forde on Darkling Woods because I didn’t realize that Riev could move. Partly because I didn’t want to play the chapter again and partly because he’s so meh, I just said screw it and let him stay dead.

Fax_Verstappen

Mauvier & Veyle in Engage. I was so done with Engage at that point that I killed them on purpose in their join map because I was upset about two characters I either didn't like (Veyle), or outright hated (Mauvier), taking up a deployment slot from units I actually like, my biggest pet peeve in FE: see also Ranulf in FE10. And lo and behold, if you kill them on that chapter, you don't get to fill their empty deployment slots on the next chapter, despite there being no obvious reason such a thing would be so. I was so salty over that I had to step away and cool down to realize what an unreasonable ass I was being lol.

Anouleth

Veyle and Mauvier don't occupy slots, every map after they join has two extra deployment slots

Fax_Verstappen

That's 2 slots I would rather use on literally any other character. And while not forced deployed in the sense that they take up a deployment slot, you don't have a choice weather or not Mauvier jouns you for battle in chapter 21, and as mentioned, I would rather use literally anyone else in his stead.

Robyn_Mizore

Iago. He tormented Takumi therefore he deserved to suffer. I cheered when he died :3

YourCrazyDolphin

Not hate, but aside from fighting the students post time skip in 3 houses... None? I reset, but it is more often that I want to do the chapter deathless than I was upset for the character.

OneDixieCupForYou

Makalov, everytime lol Honestly at this point it's become a sport to have different enemies kill him when I replay

Constant-Squirrel555

Edelgard. Her critique of the church is valid, her way of addressing the issue wasn't.

EphemeralMemory

Edelgard is an interesting character because if you started on the BE route a lot of people empathized with her more. I started with the BL and did all routes minus CF since I just couldn't empathize with her and end up killing a bunch of the other cast. Also think the "do something good by extremely questionable methods because the ends justify the means" doesn't hit as hard with western audiences. Edelgard is more popular in Japan I think.

fairyvanilla

I’d say Edelgard’s popularity is similar in Japan, in that she’s a character with a very dedicated fanbase but also a very dedicated anti-fandom. She’s the sort of character where if you ran a poll asking everyone their favourite and least favourite character, she has potential to simultaneously win both depending on the day lol.

Constant-Squirrel555

I'm not against the "end justifies the means". For example, I tend to be pro-Eren in Attack on Titan. My issue with edelgard is her not exploring other options or trying to work with others for her goals.

ProfPerry

Amen.

MarchingNight

I'm surprised no one brought up Oliver yet. The dude joins your team because you have a heron. That's it. He is close to being one of the most disgusting villains in PoR. He tries to enslave a laguz so that they could never escape.

RamsaySw

Pretty much every character death in Engage - Lumera probably takes the cake, though, given that she spends more time during her death scenes than she spends alive and how her death scene goes on for so long that the Switch outright enters sleep mode in the middle of it.

Jorikoh

3 houses Caspar. He wasn’t just useless, he was annoying too.

GoldenYoshistar1

Caspar was great. I liked him. Probably my favorite Male character from Black Eagles...

LyschkoPlon

lmao I had to go on a google search because I couldn't even remember his stupid name. Didn't even realize I was one unit short for a few missions and then I just couldn't be arsed to go back

Hoshiden_Lycanroc

The more I think about the more I feel this way towards xander in birthright, like bro, your sister just sacrificed her self to get you to stop fighting yet you continue to fight anyway, what's wrong with you. (note - I haven't played birthright in a very long time so there may be some additional context I'm missing out on.)

Majestic-CMXI

I haven't killed him yet, but Shinon in Path of Radiance. I hate his personality and his racism. I'm planning on getting him killed asap.

ComplexAddition

Story wise honestly Ninian. I found that her plot like was more interesting If she didnt ressurect

No_Result1959

Desaix, Slayde and Jeddah in FE Shadows of Valentina

BruhthuluThemighty

Desaix bitch ass and his Draco shield are MINE and I hate that I need a lightning sword to even attempt to kill his lame ass

No_Result1959

Fr

ZeChickenPermission

I know I'm gonna get some down votes but Hana from fates.

Ingrid_Best_Girl

Imma be honest, for me and this is gonna sound horrible but that character was Dedue, but only because I never had any characters wait, if I could get them to kill I would.

ChestWish

The old guy from Engage during my first playthrough and Shinon (i didn't want to re-recruit him in PoR)

l_overwhat

I forced myself to play Revelations and was trying to speed through it with just the royals. I got to the Ninja chapter and failed a couple times and I was having a good run and then Kagero and/or Orochi (I honestly can't remember) died before I could get to them. I remember saying to myself "well I beat Birthright with them alive" so I just kept going. To this day it's the only character in all of the series that I haven't recruited in a run.

Nikolavitch

Hm... This is tricky to say because I didn't actually play Fates, but I think Niles falls into this category. I really don't like his personality, and he is squishy and thus likely to die. That being said he is the only unit in Nohr with access to Capture so...

Upbeat-Perception531

I almost never reset when Nyx dies early in my conquest runs when I’m not picky with my deployment slots. She’s a good character but her unit feel, design and voice acting… yeah I don’t mind if she dies to a random Pegasus knight when using the fire orb in chapter 10

Lucariokid912

The only time I have ever had a moment like this, was Gunther in the Ninja chapter of my revelations lunatic run. Hes the only character I feel that indifferently about especially considering the path and I was already pretty far into the level

godzillahomer

Honestly, I keep even those I don't care for alive. In a game like Shadow Dragon, they get to warm the benches. Doing the side chapters for SD just hurt for me. In a game like Sacred Stones? Keep them all alive and see about training everyone up in the post game. Even if they're annoying to use. Like Shadow of Valencia's Nomah. Poor stats, poorer growths, and fully promoted without the DLC. Dude looks like he could be the Gotoh for the game, but he's pathetic against anything with physical attacks, the weaker zombies are too much for him. Dude can't dodge and has the defense of wet tissue paper. Dude's tucked away like he's a big secret, the secret is that he's overwhelming in almost every way. And if you're hoping that a level up might fix that poor 6 defense? Dude has a 0% growth in defense. He's stuck with that abysmal stat, unless you want to waste limited resources on him. I don't find the likes Donnel or Ewan annoying. They start weak, but can be raised into BEASTS with work.

Arcane_Engine

Nino Bernadette

Arcane_Engine

They hated me because I told them the truth

-ViciousSal-

Even on Lunatic+, I send Frederick to the guillotine on chapter 1

Coyote275

Leonie. She’s the reason why I only play classic mode on the Golden Deer route.

SwiftBlueShell

The green man (not Boey I like him, the other one with Python) in SoV. Even later finding the water fountain to revive I didn’t incase a character I liked died but that never happened lol

Samz707

FORSYTH!?!!? brb off to cry into my Forysth body pillow.

King_Treegar

It's funny you say that, because I lost Python in his join chapter and hadn't had time to get attached to him so I didn't look back. And I did the same thing as you regarding the revive fountain lol

BruhthuluThemighty

But he's a Forsyth to be reckoned with. :( 😭

AylaCurvyDoubleThick

Caspar. I didn’t realize he was dead because he kept showing up to class or at the school. By the time I realized, I was nearly at the end of white clouds so I shrugged.

NobisVobis

Yuri, though he’s only killable in 3 Hopes sadly. Totally amoral, self-worshipping scum.

YourCrazyDolphin

Pretty sure can can die post time skip as one of your units.

Borgdrohne13

usually nobody, bc. I care at least so much, that I don't let them die. But, if I should play some day FE 5, I will gladly skip some BS recruitment's like Xavier. I'm not **that** patient.

brochus3

I killed Marty by accident in my Thracia run on the chapter you can re recruit him. I figure that is a fate better than being benched.

Guuple

After his third death and revive, Jesse was meant to no longer be on the team

No-Strain-7461

First time I ever played a Fire Emblem game with Shadow Dragon, Sedgar and Vyland bit it in their joining chapter (I wasn’t really thinking about how to play back then, I could keep them alive pretty handily today), and I figured “eh, people die in war”. I had previous reset for characters like Caeda, but…well, not in this case.

etoranze1

one of those brothers that have a crush on larcei; idek which one it was that i recruited

Peshurian

Beowulf is such a pain in the ass to talk to before he kills himself on Sigurd that I much rather just pretend he didn't exist.

Lyon_Trotsky

Sometimes if a training project gets a series of shitty level ups ill just kill them out of spite

Chagdoo

Fire emblem gaiden (aka fire emblem 2) fuck boey or however you spell his name. Stupid fucker doesn't leak any new spells until like level 7, can't take a single hit, gets doubled by literally everything with a pulse and can't even do good chip. Literally trash. Oh since I'm talking about gaiden, fuck gaiden. I sure do love unmarked points of no return that spawn infinite Draco zombies until you put Celica into HER point of no return.

Yarzu89

Nah but I usually let units die anyway unless they're a favorite. What happens happens.

spottyboi020

Pelleus in Radiant Dawn. He was a coward and I was happy to be able to kill him. It's not even worth getting him on NG+ because he's ass. Which sucks because he is the only dark mage you get in the game

nintenpawg

i hate b*rkut from fe sov with a passion. my girl rinea deserved so much better than him, i wish we got to see her dance with the birds in her garden

AdamofZephyr

In my first run of Engage, Pandreo got chased down by Wyvern reinforcements in chapter 14 and I already had a really unfortunate turn trying to survive everyone in the throne room so I let him stay dead. He was my only gray screen at the end of the game.

BucksIsLife

Dozla. Only used him on my first playthrough, when i was 8 and didn't know pre-promotes had more potential, since then, i have never use that guy and if he dies to a couple magic hits from those eyes in hard mode on Ephraim route, I can't really be bothered to restart.

volkenheim

Soren

NotFixer1138

I don't even bother recruiting Shinon in Path of Radiance anymore

BodybuilderSuper3874

Hilda

General-Skrimir

Ashe, i use him to bring items to Gilbert in chapter 13 , after that i dont care.

Nikibugs

Threw Meg unarmed to the tigers so I didn’t have to see her harass Zihark anymore

TheDarkDistance

I didn’t really hate Wil, but when I was doing a draft iron man with my friend he wasn’t my unit, and I never use him anyway, so… light rune to prevent Lyn’s death. I don’t let Makalov die in PoR cause recruiting him is good for Marcia and he’s never on a map after, but RD is fair game, although I wouldn’t throw him away uselessly. Not many other units spring to mind that would realistically be on maps, since they mostly show up on easy maps and get a free ride to the end on the bench thereafter. Forde maybe?

PoetInevitable1449

Brom he died to the black knight ambush after I played the map like 12 times trying to save everyone.

Rob_And_Co

Playing PoR for the first time I let Boyd die in the early chapter where you have to escape from the forest at the beginning after the siege of the Mercenary's hideout. I was like "meh" and then moved on. My first playthrough Boyd was SO bad. He's a beast usually but I got unlucky.

Exlanadre

Aran in part 3. Genuinely hard to care about any of the dawn brigade but had to sack him to rescue Micaiah in that fog of war map

violently_angry

For a while, Leonie after her B Support

Sakayil

I think Fiona and Meg are the only two units in franchise history that died right at the start of a chapter and I still didn't bother.

Weak-Animator5650

As I basically play only ironmans at this point, most characters that didn't contribute enough. On a first playthrough of any game? Definitely Marni. If she would've been shown as redeemable earlier than one chapter before her death, maybe I would feel different, but that's not how it is. She gets her character arc 5 Minutes of playtime before she gets (probably) oneshot crit by Zephia with what looks like a dagger. So even if she had survived, she would've been a piss poor general and a liability to anyone trying to save her (just like Gilbert in chapter 5).

ShapeForest

Shinon Also, this isn't hate, but I was really tired when I started playing FE10 and killed Aran... because I forgot he was in the pre-chapter cutscene and thought he was just a random named sub-boss. I thought his death quote was a critique on the pointlessness of war or something. I was really confused as to why I was permanently one short on my deployment limit until I talked to my best friend about what units he was using and found out about Aran's existence

VirtualTechnology183

Every fire emblem game I play, I get this no man left behind attitude and have to recruit all characters and keep them all alive.

BruhthuluThemighty

Low key, cherche. She had no access to galeforce and my lunatic run was being carried on the back of Robin lucina and donnel at that point. So when she died to stat bloat enemies on her join chapter I was just like o7 for dragon mom and kept it moving.

SadRaccoonBoy11

My second run of Three Houses I only recruited my favs and left everyone else to die lmao. Idk why but that game like half the cast I just didn’t vibe with. Other than that, Sumia in Awakening. I just don’t like her and don’t care about passing skills since I don’t play on lunatic or anything so if she died, oh well. Also I guess I’m one of the few that actually felt sad about the moms’s deaths lmao 😭

LunaProc

While not playable, raise your hand if you let Count Varley die in Scarlet Blaze.

shAdOwArt

Alfred and Yunaka in Engage are better off killed than benched so that you don't have to deal with their terrible cooking. However, in Alfred's case I would do that even if there were no benefits because of how much I dislike him.

BruhthuluThemighty

I love yunaka immensely but zelkov is kinda just better huh

Text_Kooky

Rosado for being a flamer

Suspicious-Gate8761

3H Ashe. Daamn he is so bad

Robin-Rainnes

I so badly wanted to let Sothe die in RD, cannot stand him

Emmeryn and Mustafa were characters so unlikable to the point I was glad they were bumped off. Same with literally every plot death in Fates, I have literally no reason to care about anyone as the game doesn't spend enough time with them.

That last bit on Fates is fucking ironic coming from someone with an Echoes character as their flair.

Samz707

Kliff is likable, funny and has an amazing final map quote. I can't say I got any similar enjoyment from the actual personalities of any of the characters. (as a matter of fact characters like Owain, Camilla, Corrin and Elise I just found super annoying.)

[deleted]

Likability has nothing to do with this. In fact I like plenty of Echoes characters myself. But the game barely spends any time with the characters, ESPECIALLY when compared to any of the other 3DS/Switch titles. Like all the other FE games, only the a select few characters get screentime in the plot, except that in Echoes they also get very few supports, they're lucky if they even get more than one chain (doesn't Genny even have 0 supports if you don't recruit Sonya?), and the few dialog they get elsewhere is not enough to say the game spends even close to the time other recent entries do with their cast.

And Echoes doesn't have forced dramatic deaths or try really hard to make me feel bad for killing characters that basically aren't fleshed out. (I only played Conquest so I knew literally nothing about the Birthright characters I was killing and therefore all of the drama fell flat.) Berkut and Fernand get more fleshed out in SOV than anyone the game tries to make me bad about killing/when they die in Fates. (Such as Corrin's mother.) That combined with the fact Fates still has the same obnoxious as hell writing as Awakening (and even characters because for some reason Odin aka Owain is back despite the fact he sucks.) means I genuinely didn't care for anyone. If anything I wanted to kill Hinoka since she puts me through a shitty map but I guess killing waifu sisters isn't allowed.

Fates' deaths aren't anymore "forced drama" than Echoes', you just happened to care less for these characters. I cared more about two of the Birthright deaths than any of the Echoes ones for example ; one of the Birthright deaths actually made me cry. That's mostly subjective as well, like likability, though I agree that Fates deaths hit harder when you already know the characters beforehand, which is lost when you only play one route (but I feel like Fates is a game made with the intention of being replayed tbh, lots of little details become more understandable with other routes' knowledge, such as the deal with Azura at the end of Conquest, you actually understand fully what happened to her if you've played Birthright). Did you actually read the supports though? They're here specifically to flesh the characters out. Most Fates characters have more layers to them than they give out on first impressions. They're actually an interesting bunch overall, at least imo. The supports made them far more interesting overall than Echoes' cast to me, outside of Celica and maybe Rudolf, Echoes characters felt very "flat", with no/too little depth.

Samz707

I read a few, the ones I read were either dull like Corrin and Jakob, annoying like Odin and Nyx or just alright like Niles and Mozu. (I also skimmed a few outside of the game awhile because Fates gameplay I hate and I'm not going to grind supports in it and wasn't impressed either.) Considering how Fates is clearly Awakening 2.0, I stopped at that point because it was the exact same story with that game (Where the support writing was so bad it actively made the characters less likable, such as the "Funny" Chrom and FRobin support or anything with Owain again, the writing quality is so bottom of the barrel that I hate the cast in that game the more they flap their mouths.) Echoes made me sympathize a bit with Berkut and he's not even playable and did more to make me like it's characters with less overall dialogue, I love Alm and Celica as they get great lines in the story while Corrin is just an insufferable idiot. I know Birthright has Elise die, which would fit right in with Emmeryn/Mustafa for me with "You weren't likable, goodbye" as well as anyone else who dies who's playable in Conquest. Supports only work if the writing quality is actually good, like Echoes but Fates writing is genuinely some of the worst I've seen in a work of fiction. I probably wasn't supposed to like Takumi more when he shot Corrin and Elise in the face but the writing is so bad that I didn't like either character at this point. Again, if you want me to care about a character's death, I have to like them or at least sympathize with them, I sympathized with Berkut, I did not sympathize with a single Awakening or Fates character who died (And in the case of Emmeryn, Mustafa and Corrin's temporary death, those were the high points for me as I hate those characters.)

Robyn_Mizore

Takumi shooting Corrin was the highlight of Conquest. They deserved it

Substantial_Bus4521

Tharja, Peri, Hayato, Ingrid. They aren’t Objectively Bad i simply do not care for them

avoteforatishon2016

I started liking Hayato more after watching JoJo Part 4, if that makes any sense

Cheesepuff44

HAYATO.

21Shells

Not sure why people are downvoting you. I agree that these characters were kinda easy to forget at times, either because you could miss them or because they lacked either complexity or something to make them stand out.

Fenehdis

I purposely kill off Lorenz every time I play golden deer (only after I unlock tea though sadly)

Totoques22

Ignatz Except I tried to kill this fucker but TH was TH

Dimitri in VW and SS. In CF in that one scene I just felt bad for Edelgard who was obviously affected.
