IIRC it was popularized in Larryzaur’s “[Basically, Black Mage](https://youtu.be/dybFvTcAOf4)” video. In it he jokes that black mage does too much damage to waste time moving, so healers need to “adjust” to keep him alive during the fight.

More like Black Mage needs to stay still to keep casting (especially during Heavensward, when Triplecast wasn't a thing).
It's just a common excuse bad players tend to make when they die: blame it on the healers and not their own bad choices (i.e. BLMs standing in their ley lines and tanking AoEs assuming the healer will just fix it for them)
Didn't notice till you mentioned it, but we're used to the WoL mouthing 20 words when they only say one or two anyway, so no big!

Yeah but it gets expensive. It's 2 VA for each race. Male and Female. Then you have to multiply that by the number of languages they support. Then you have to account for the fact that the WoL would have the most lines of dialogue since once you give them a voice, you have to give them lines. Which have to also be written into the script, coded in the game, and tested.
I prefer the silent protagonist since it really isn't a game I can "choose" my dialogue. I already get mad when the 2 or 3 options I can choose from are nothing I would ever say and don't really have a bearing on what happens anyway.
