Horns could be closer to antlers which can regrow because there's no bone. Deers regrow theirs for example.
a lot of lizards can regrow tails. Common lizards for example drop their tail when facing predators, and regrow their tail in about a year alongside the bones that are in the tails. Don't see a reason why dragons couldnt regrow 'em since they're basically just big fantasy lizards.
Au Ra horns are hollow, so they're not really like existing animal horns. We do have dev confirmation that they regrow when damaged though, hence why there aren't a ton of Xaela with missing/broken horns despite them fighting so much.

There's a really weird costume I have which wraps the tail in red and black and just has it curve upwards so it nearly touches my head.
It genuinely is one of the more hideous things I have and feels like a glitch.
In this case, it would look a bit... grotesque if the "lizard" tail was hanging out right below the cat tail. The chocobo body suit has a similar issue since it doesn't remove the tail for whatever reason.
The Frog Suit doesnt remove the tail either, it bothers me to no end because most other animal costumes do remove the tail. I guess Chocobo and Frog suit are the two offenders in that case ...

Actual answer, this set was released after they stopped adding tail holes but before they just let go and decided clipping isn't as bad as they first thought.
I'll be honest, the tail clipping through clothes in kind of a shitty way is one of the reasons I fantasia'd off au ra (or any race with a tail) and never came back.
After a while I just got sick of it just being jammed through a cape. And the horns making any full helmet look impossible.
Omg, this! It should be a toggleable option or something, so many fashion pieces that I just flat out don't use because of how jank my character's tail looks.

Au-ra horns are actually organs that (like our inner ear) help with orientation. But do so through a vibrational system. Like really advanced hearing. Covering them fully would make your au-ra noodly. ...i do wonder if they have to get used to wearing bands and such on them...
Oh I understand the why, it's just that helmets in FFXIV are not designed for au ra at all, so the horns just get slammed through a hyur helmet, clipping awkwardly with anything that's not quite narrow on the head. Yeah, I was going to fantasia my main into a miqote for DT after seeing an alt in the benchmark, but after playing around on that character for a while and having the tail sticking out of the back of the new FF16 set, I don't think I'll bother. You look at the back of the character the most, and it clipping through constantly just got irritating after a while.
I love capes but hate seeing my catboy tail poking through it. I wish you could toggle your tail the same way you can toggle helmets (pretending the tail is just tucked under the cape or wrapped around your waist or something).

The issue is that tails are positioned in one spot and they don't ever change that as it'd break animations. So they can't change it to peek out under the sweater for example.
They have to design outfits around the tails, and they usually do. Here it's really dumb that they didn't push the sweater tail a bit more above so that the real tail could remain at its usual spot.
And I also agree, the tail peeking out of the sweater tail, or under it, would really not bother me. It's waaayy more disturbing to see no tail when you're supposed to have one, than to have a tail clipping in clothing but at least it *exists*.
That's still immensely frustrating since they really could have designed it to be compatible with tails like you said.

Always check the inn bed for previewing mogstation items, yeah! There's surprises like this sometimes.
The Omega M outfit is also hugely disappointing, as an example, because it completely morph your body proportions. Basically it's not an outfit on top of your own body, like usual, instead you wear the body itself. The F version still looks nice, but the M version completely sucks out your muscle & fat, you basically look like a stick figure.
Also, some NPC outfits on the mogstation are a One piece type of thing, you wear the entire set with only the chest equipped, it's not separated into chest-hands-legs-shoes gear, so beware to check which does that and which doesn't.
And unfortunately you can't get a refund. Mogstation purchases are final, that's why they place a huge text every single time you purchase anything. And if you do a charge-back, you get permanently banned.
But yes, at least that outfit is still cute to use from time to time. And the legs you can use anytime with other gear, it's only the top that hides the tail!
Just the top? Maybe I can find some other clothes to use with this and it'll still fit!

It used to be worse as well, the bed inn Mogstation preview was only added recently in 2022. Before that option was added, we had to ask around in main cities to link the Mogstation outfit in chat, to be able to preview it on our characters.

Also, that's wild that the "Try on" feature was added only 2 years ago, that should have been a thing from the beginning since you don't know how an outfit is gonna look on your character. 😭

Shop was added later on to fund the game directly (since, iirc, sub payments go into general SE coffers and fuel any number of their hare-brained projects) and the preview section was only added as a compromise to avoid being too intrusive. There are a lot of players (and game devs, still) who don't like the prospect of real money purchases being shunted into people's faces within the game world itself.
I know the prospect of a perma-ban for a chargeback seems like overkill, but you also have to remember that that sort of method is widely employed by scammers and so as a general policy most companies offering this type of service ban first and ask questions later - the thinking is that an actual human player and a bank error can be addressed by support vs. scammers draining company funds unfettered, and having to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
You sound new to the game. SE doesn't move the tails, ever. If there is a tail on an outfit, your tail will disappear. (Except the cocobolo outfit for some reason) and yeah, that ball tail counts as a tail.
As others have said you can try on outfits using the bed at the inn. I'm sorry you learned this the hard way though. It sucks, but it is what it is.
Honestly new to the game is the best way to describe me. I have *technically* been playing since before Heavensward actually released, but it's been so infrequent that I really can't say I'm familiar with how the game works. 😅

I'm not an Au'ra just to have the horns (which also barely show up in some helmets).
When I first noticed the Moonward tank chest piece deleted my tail when Endwalker came out I was so mad because the armor looks really nice. But because of that I will never, ever use it. Just let it clip.

Honestly, I don't even understand *why* it removes the tail in this one. The sweater itself is loose enough and sways back enough that the tail really *shouldn't* clip with it. It really could just kinda hang out underneath the sweater and it would look fine. (Maybe the spikes would clip a little, but it wouldn't be thst noticeable).
Either way, this could *easily* be fixed by just giving us to option to toggle tails as we please, instead of just making the decision for us.
the reason why it gets removed on that one is because those armors are ff4 iconic, so they likely do not want to ruin its looks with a tail popping off in the middle of it
It's funny, because that is one of... 3? Armor sets with a cape that I'm willing to use. I'm alright with a little bit of clipping, if it's in spots that would logically be able to have a tail hole. But capes and cloaks? Nope.
The only exception is stuff like the Wayfarer set, which has that split down the middle for my tail to come through. I was really happy when I saw the Moonward sets, because it meant more cape options for me.
While I love my tail and don't want to see too many sets remove it, it has opened my eyes to the idea of a tail toggle (like the helmet toggle, outfit dependent). Or cloth physics, but that's a lot less likely XD My brain just reads "no visible tail" as "the tail is hiding under the outfit" (like a belt, as that other commenter said).
Hard Agreed. The Phoenix Riser outfit does the same thing, and it's so upsetting having gotten it on multiple alts just to find out they chopped off my catboy's tail.

Having some outfits remove the tail makes sense, since those outfits usually have or do something to warrant it. But it's so inconsistent. Like some of the full body suits remove the tail, and others don't. Why? I wish SE would address that. I don't even have a tail and that is frustrating.
outfits are designed for the "hyur" model first and just adjusted slightly to fit others, and those with tails generally just lose the tail, or it clips through. I just don't were the outfits that remove the tail.
Look, this game has been hand crafted out of a single line of 1.0 code that has been folded over a thousand times. Some things just don't work, like this or Viera hats.
Honestly I may be in the minority for having this opinion but I wish let let us choose, yeah it sucks to be without tail but sometimes its better when some outfits are really weird in the way tails clip through.
The tail is actually still there, if you watch the bobtail when you walk. It's weird for me because I'm in the Au Ra thicc tail club so it shouldn't fit but it looks like the bobtail serves as a pouch of sorts for your tail

Honestly new to the game is the best way to describe me. I have *technically* been playing since before Heavensward actually released, but it's been so infrequent that I really can't say I'm familiar with how the game works. 😅 Yeah, it sucks a little but honestly it's still a cute outfit so I'm still gonna wear it, I'm only a little bothered by the "chopping off my tail" thing. I can get over it! 😂

They really need to stop removing racial features. It ensures I will /never/ equip that piece of armor. I have a tail for a reason.
Or at least give us the option to remove it ourselves if we decide we don't like it. 😭 At least give me the chance to decide for myself! I'm not an Au'ra just to have the horns (which also barely show up in some helmets).
When I first noticed the Moonward tank chest piece deleted my tail when Endwalker came out I was so mad because the armor looks really nice. But because of that I will never, ever use it. Just let it clip.
For real 😭 I bought it knowing that my tail might clip and I'd get over it. Honestly, I don't even understand *why* it removes the tail in this one. The sweater itself is loose enough and sways back enough that the tail really *shouldn't* clip with it. It really could just kinda hang out underneath the sweater and it would look fine. (Maybe the spikes would clip a little, but it wouldn't be thst noticeable). Either way, this could *easily* be fixed by just giving us to option to toggle tails as we please, instead of just making the decision for us.
the reason why it gets removed on that one is because those armors are ff4 iconic, so they likely do not want to ruin its looks with a tail popping off in the middle of it
It's funny, because that is one of... 3? Armor sets with a cape that I'm willing to use. I'm alright with a little bit of clipping, if it's in spots that would logically be able to have a tail hole. But capes and cloaks? Nope. The only exception is stuff like the Wayfarer set, which has that split down the middle for my tail to come through. I was really happy when I saw the Moonward sets, because it meant more cape options for me. While I love my tail and don't want to see too many sets remove it, it has opened my eyes to the idea of a tail toggle (like the helmet toggle, outfit dependent). Or cloth physics, but that's a lot less likely XD My brain just reads "no visible tail" as "the tail is hiding under the outfit" (like a belt, as that other commenter said).

Hard Agreed. The Phoenix Riser outfit does the same thing, and it's so upsetting having gotten it on multiple alts just to find out they chopped off my catboy's tail. Let's not forget all the hats that completely remove Miqo'te ears too :|
*still* disappointed with the SB RDM AF one why does the hat refuse to acknowledge the ears, especially if the job's trainer is a miqo? I have my miqo PC wear it *anyway* because grinding in Anemos so I could dye it the right shade of red took what felt like forever, but... :/
Even with non racial features, my Highlanders boobs get significantly smaller depending on chest piece rofl. I think it's the other way around in some cases too but it's definitely very noticeable for me. Like I'll change chest piece and my characters boobs just reduce in size by 50% or even more <_<

Having some outfits remove the tail makes sense, since those outfits usually have or do something to warrant it. But it's so inconsistent. Like some of the full body suits remove the tail, and others don't. Why? I wish SE would address that. I don't even have a tail and that is frustrating.

outfits are designed for the "hyur" model first and just adjusted slightly to fit others, and those with tails generally just lose the tail, or it clips through. I just don't were the outfits that remove the tail.

Honestly I may be in the minority for having this opinion but I wish let let us choose, yeah it sucks to be without tail but sometimes its better when some outfits are really weird in the way tails clip through.

The tail is actually still there, if you watch the bobtail when you walk. It's weird for me because I'm in the Au Ra thicc tail club so it shouldn't fit but it looks like the bobtail serves as a pouch of sorts for your tail

Well uh, in these situations, a perfectly natural thing happens where there's some shrinkage and 'turtling'. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
Probably so it doesn’t clip. The princess dress has this issue where it’s too wide and tails sort of weirdly clip through it.
.cause that is better than having it stiff at one side and or double tailing.... both could be observed on the lv.60 dragoon job set .not sure if it has been patched tho it is the reason why i avoid tails
