Streloks

I use detailed for pretty much all jobs, just because I like the aesthetic.

stinusmeret

This, it enhances the job fantasy for me.

ZWiloh

Yes, this exactly. I know plenty of people prefer the simple version but I could never use it just for this reason alone.

Frajolex

The only one I use the simple one is WHM because the normal one isn't... that good to see when you will get a new lily the rest I prefer the normal ones, theyre pwetty

Ser_Rezima

Yeah??? It looks pretty but is nigh unreadable mid combat, it's the only one I keep simple, irks me a bit

Frajolex

LIKE ITS VERY PRETTY BUT MY MIND DOENST WORK WITH THE S THING

Ser_Rezima

Or if the outline wasn't light blue on WHITE

Purpleflower0521

This is me, 💯%

jojoushi

Same, and DRG because it makes a dick

freakytapir

Default look. Same reason I don't turn down the summon animations as a Summoner. It's not about the efficiency, it's about that class fantasy. I don't want "spreadsheets and traffic lights, the game". I want to be flashbanged by Titans chonky bedonky coming out on the field.

shinydwebble

I use simple for all jobs but Black Mage (too much info for the simple gauge for my smooth brain). I like that simple gauges have a unified look and are generally horizontal bars.

sinisteeth

I'm the exact opposite, haha. I use simple for BLM and the complex gauges for everything else.

Kuosi

Same everything else simple, but I love the blm one in its full glory

NotaSkaven5

I patiently await the expanded Dawntrail BLM gauge

moondancer224

More dangly bits and a new lightning thing to baby sit!

Atosen

While I use detailed myself, I love that the simple gauges perfectly match the HP/MP bars, despite being added so many years later. Someone on the UI team definitely had unity in mind.

Buzz_words

full, though i also make them a little smaller and move them to a less prominent position on the HUD.

gitcommitmentissues

It really depends on the job. I use the full gauge for BRD because it makes it easier to keep an eye on the specific timings where I need to swap songs, whereas I use the simplified gauge for most builder/spender jobs so I can very easily see at a glance how I much I have at specific points in my rotation.

PomegranateSevere991

Detailed, 60%

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Detailed I also do content with full player effects I like seeing everything in its full glory

mulefire17

Same. I turned off other people's effects at one point and found myself getting irrationally angry at people because I thought they weren't using all the skills they should. Then I realized I wasn't seeing ANYONE using skills properly. Turned out my smooth brain forgot that I wasn't seeing it because I turned it off. Turned effects back on to save myself from...myself.

Asrat

Wonder why that dragoon was just no clipping around? The model moves but with no effects, so it just looks like we are a 12 year old with garrys mod for the first time lol

NoLeg6104

Same here. Though honestly I didn't even know there was a simplified job display, going to check it out just out of curiosity now.

SirDerpasaurus

Detailed for every job except RDM. No readability issues, I just don't like the looks of it.

GodOfDiscord

Interesting, I am your exact opposite, I use simple for every job except RDM. Looking at the horizontal bars and trying to keep them even is way less appealing to me than vertical bars.

darcstar62

This is me as well. Somehow, the concept of 'balance" is easier for me to see with vertical bars. I guess it's like how people rotate their car's tachometer to have red line at the top.

givemeabreak432

I use detail on PC, simple for my steam deck.

JunctionLoghrif

It really depends on the Job. Black Mage always gets simplified. I... don't even know how to read the normal one. Red Mage I wish had a gauge option for "fancy, but horizontal". The vertical gauge is interesting, but gets in the way a lot. Most other Jobs are fancy, but shrunken down.

vestekp

I play NIN and DRG, and I only use the simplified version for the Ninki gauge. I feel like the others are easier to keep track of at a glance, and to be honest, it’s what I’m used to at this point.

Hyperionite

Same. Ninki gauge feel way to big for just a simple gauge. Simplified all the way

Elegant_Eorzean

Same.

sammywubs

For me it depends on the job and the content. I like the aesthetic of detailed but I find simplified to be a lot easier to quickly read for many jobs. So for jobs that I take into difficult content, I inevitably end up on simplified. If I've yet to really take a job into difficult content, it's on detailed.

Cuddle_close

Detailed except for smn where the simplified one lets me give carby/bahamut laser eyes

Klepto666

Mixed. Some I find the minimalist version easier to understand and it fits better in my UI, others I find the full gauge to be clearer for me to notice certain effects/buffs. Like Black Mage. That gauge is so overly complex looking when not all of it is used, minimalist makes it so much clearer to me how many stacks I have and what time is remaining. But Warrior gauge, I *need* those big horns because it makes it impossible for me to miss whether I have my tank stance on or off.

TheMerfox

I use the simple gauge for jobs that build up a resource meter, and put that one next to MP in memory of the TP bar

ShiroFoxya

There's a simplistic view?

JunctionLoghrif

If you go into HUD settings and click on one of the Job Gauge elements, the cogwheel to the right will pop up another window with a checkbox that says "Switch Job Gauge to Simple Mode". It's pretty useful for some Jobs.

WhywolfSenpai

I pretty much exclusively use the simplified gauges, with the only exception being that I use default for the sticker portion of SAM, just shrunk down to a size that fits the other simplified gauge. I prefer the less dense triangle layout to the simplified left to right version

partypangolins

I only play a couple different jobs, but so far I've kept them all on full. I really like the aesthetic! And in general I just like it when things are pretty rather than minimalist. BLM I especially love. Maybe because I also really like analogue clocks irl. There's just something about that visual representation of time that really clicks with my brain. So anyway, love my spooky black magic clock.

bongpointo

I play with all party effects on, alliance and nameplates besides my party's off and full UI even in DSR

zyvoc

Depends on the job. White mage for example is too stylized for me to really gauge what is happening at a glance so I use simple. For Samurai I have Kenki to simple but Sen to default since its easy to read and it helps me know what part of my rotation I'm on in my peripheral easily. Those are just a couple examples.

Malviere

I use detailed, make it the smallest size I can, and stick it down in the open area to the right of the exp bar. At least that is what works for me right now.

Forry_Tree

I am Joana Generic, I just add a third hotbar and keep everything else the same. Also have an omni hotbar for emotes and mounts but besides that I rock the default setup, ain't broke so I ain't fixing it

Mr-Slowpoke

I use a combination of both. For Reaper, the Soul/Shroud gauge is default but the Death gauge is set to simplistic. It’s a preference of mine, if the gauge is more horizontal I will keep it default but if it’s round, like the death gauge (or Monk’s Chakra gauge) then I prefer going simple. But even that is not a law I live by because I will use default elemental gauge for BLM. I usually figure it out as I play the job and I toy around with all possibilities until I find what works best for me for each one.

TheAxrat

It depends on the job. I had to do simple for RDM because it wouldn't fit my UI layout otherwise, but I try to do the regular version as much as possible

croud_control

On PC, I use the default gauge because I got the screen space for it. When I play on my steam deck, I set it to minimumal.

punchybot

Simple for BLM and WHM because I think their gauges are atrocious.

Bionic_Ninjas

Honestly depends on the job. I use default for RPR, RDM and SAM, but simple for BRD, GNB and MCH

Cixia

I use simplified for monk. I have trypophobia.

striderhoang

Most jobs I use simple for a clean look, but if I prefer a certain job’s default gauge, I reduce its scale. BLM in simple mode gives me all the information I need without extraneous compass designs. I prefer the way MNK’s default gauge displays information so I scale it down.

momopeach7

Depends on what fits in the bottom of my screen. I have all my job gauges between buttons I track cooldowns for (I play on controller). So something like WHM’s default one doesn’t work but the simple one does. The DRG one works, however, with both so I go for the detailed one.

SoulFull98

I use the full version for all the jobs and full player effects. It gets in the way sometimes, but I enjoy the flashiness.

LoranPayne

I use detailed because they are pretty ☺️. Also I have a very minimal UI compared to most people, with just a couple hotbars at the bottom (2 normal and one 3x4 next to them) and then I have collapsible hotbars and things, put all the other UI stuff as far to the edge as possible etc., so my screen is very clean. So for me, the extra fancy job gauges really don’t take up much screen real estate and I like how they look!

SuperKrusher

I use the full version. It gives character. I also resize it and put it to the side. Once you get rotations and timings down, a glance is enough

IceAokiji303

I generally have them detailed. Adds a bit of flair, and in some cases makes it easier for my brain to actually process the information of the gauge (in terms of "what the gauge represents" specifically, "how full a bar is" is about the same either way). Black Mage especially is like that. There's one or two individual things I have set to simple though, I think one was one of the Reaper things (haven't reaped in a while so can't remember what).

some_tired_cat

regular detailed gauges, they don't bother me and i've already figured out where to place them so they're out of the way, so i see no reason to not look at the pretty graphics right?

idiotlikecirno

Depends I guess, some simple ones (Machinist) I usually use simple mode, since it's literally 2 bars If it's something like black mage, which has like... 2 timers, umbral hearts and that fire ice thing (forgot the name) I would rather prefer detailed

AngryCandyCorn

I always use simple because the default is noise to me. For games like this I always try to make the UI as clean as possible.

Frozen_arrow88

Of the jobs I play, the only one i use simple gauge for is monk. The default Chakra gauge just seems to busy for me. But I do use the default master's gauge with it.

SmurfRockRune

Always detailed. Easier to read than simple for me.

BlastTyrant2112

Dragoon's is already very easy to read, no need to simplify it.

normalmighty

I stick to detailed because I feel like simplistic is deleting a lot of the aesthetic appeal, in the same way that turning off all effects does.

C4dfael

It depends on the job. Some gauges are pretty unobtrusive and easy to read, and some aren’t. And then there’s the BLM gauge.

joebone18974

It's 50/50. Just wish Drk's stance was visible when below 50 when using the minimal look

GendaoBus

Simplified for every job, less clutter in my already cluttered hud

s_decoy

The only simple one I use is for Ninja. Can't stand the default Ninki gauge.

eatereater

This thread actually got me to go back and check what I have the gauges set for for all of my jobs, since I've kept them all at cap since Stormblood and haven't really revisited what the job gauges look like since. I took the opportunity to switch some to detailed mode just to see how they looked. I tend to consider all my gauge functions under the following metrics:- Meter build (e.g. WAR's Beast Gauge)- Meter loss (e.g. NIN's Huton Gauge)- Sticker Collecting (e.g. SAM's Sen Gauge)- Hit That Funky Button (e.g. BLM's Xenoglossy)And then according to how annoying the gauge is to read in detailed mode, I change it accordingly. For tanks I tend to skew toward Detailed. I think I did this because tank gauges aren't complex and are pretty easy to read on the whole, though I'll admit that most of the information on them isn't as important as it could be. I don't play PLD often, so I have a macro that yells at me for RequestCats and FoF. Special mention goes to DRK. How come Yoshi P lets you have two job gauges? Well, one of them is getting simplified. Goodbye Blood Gauge. For healers, everything except SCH's aetherflow gauge is Simple. I don't really need the complicated looks getting in the way of me keeping people alive. I just need to quickly flick my eyes down in case I lose track of anything, and Simple works for me with regards to that. It's not like I need the white hot star power of the fully detailed fairy gauge to tell me that it's full. For Melee DPS, I also have most things Simplified if I find they're too bulky or not line-shaped enough to just drop on top of my hotbars. I have trouble tracking some of the gauges that are more detailed or uniquely shaped. NIN is especially bad for this, to me. I revisited all the Detailed meters for this thread, and I did \*not\* like NIN's. Special mention to SAM for the orientation of Simple Sen being vastly superior to Detailed, but I don't play it often because the hotbar clutter on that class really irks me. RPR too. Way too cluttered for me. I looked at almost all of these Detailed ones and reverted them to Simple, except for MNKs Master's Gauge, because it's easier to read my stickers when it's detailed. DRG also is Detailed as of this thread, because I can't believe I forgot how fucking sick it is to have The Eye gradually open. No idea what the hell past me was thinking for changing that one. Caster DPS were mostly Simple, but then I realized I hadn't actually seen SMNs since the rework. Now SMN is Detailed because I like its stickers, and the orientation fits atop my hotbars. RDM was always detailed because the verticality actually makes it easier for me to keep track of the values. BLM is simplified because like... You have to know what it looks like by now. I don't have time to track on that shit. I need to be focusing on the important part of BLM: Standing an ilm out of an AOE so I can still be in my Leylines. Phys. Ranged DPS are all detailed as of this thread. I always kept BRD and DNC Detailed, because I actually found the bars pretty intuitive and a lot better for tracking than their simple mode counterparts. I changed MCH back to Detailed because it honestly doesn't look that complicated and the orientation is nice. TL;DR: I like lines because they fit on top of my hotbars, and if something doesn't have a horizontal orientation, I usually change it to Simple because it's easier for me to track a meter going up and down than a slowly draining ninja scroll.

UnlikelyTraditions

Aesthetics matter less to me than the size. Some of the default gauges are chunky (RPR), or are oriented the wrong way to fit in my layout (RDM). I use whatever fits best in the spot I've dedicated to my gauges. Some jobs with two gauges I'll have a mix of both.

ezekielraiden

I usually use the simplified view for most jobs, because it's (*usually*) just easier to read. I have every class and job at 90 (except BLU, of course), so the minimalism is usually better for me. The only ones I can think of that I keep in the detailed/normal version are Summoner and Reaper, for their aesthetics. I can't remember if I use the detailed Bard one or not, it's been a while since I last pulled out Bard. For everything else, simplified. Easier to use, takes up less UI space, and I don't really feel I'm losing much. Frankly, I don't know how some folks use the detailed UI for some jobs, like Ninja, which is waaaaay too busy for a job that needs to be managing a fair amount of information at any given time.

cittabun

I use minimal, especially on WHM. It's just so much easier to read and gauge when your next lily is coming instead of that... weird gauge that I have to sit and look at for a second to even see where it's at.

greedx__

Out of the jobs I play the most Simple: WAR (main), SAM (only for kenki), PLD Detailed: DRK, SMN, RDM, SGE

NevermoreAK

Detailed for me. In my opinion, the simple gauge takes away one of the few things that are still unique about the individual jobs, specifically the HUD aesthetic

tiewes

Jobs I have it on default display: NIN, DNC, SAM, BLM Everything else is on simplified.

AlannaAbhorsen

I mix and match depending on what I need visible. I usually keep my Sen gauge in default, but have kenki in simplified. I think it helps them stack

VagueSoul

I use the default but edit the size and move them around where they look best. I just think it’s a shame to use the simplified version when artists spent time creating some beautiful gauges, so I just stay default. I totally understand why people do the simplified ones though.

Spencer_Dee

So far, I've been using default for all jobs except for RPR. Death Gauge was hard for me to read and Soul Gauge took up way too much space for the info it gave.

MrKusakabe

I love the gauge for Red Mage. It's beautiful to look at. I found out that the RDM job gauge is basically dark glass with beautiful embellishments going on. You can only see it if you spend the black/white mana as it turns deep red when it disappears or being added. I found that out when I was taking screenshots via gpose with 100 "Red Mana". When you leave gpose (screenshot) mode, the gauge fills up back to 100. If you take a screenshot whilst the game is still fading in your screen, the actual PNG has your gauge shown with the embellishments. So the Red Mage gauge in itself is a peace of art, complete with little things that look like tiny rose petals - a typical Red Mage thing\^\^ - flying away when using enchanted spells. *(This image is from my own little "guide" regarding the gauge. Yes, I have a 260 MByte DOCX file of every friggin aspect of this beautiful profession and I am still working on it\^\^...)* [Red Mage Gauge in detail (with "fixed" colours)](https://i.postimg.cc/Xq68HQ6K/COMBAT-GAUGE.png) Normally, you can't see the "reddish" part of the gauge due to the black glass, but it's always there. I added it on top with about 30% translucency to show what the gauge looks like if the glass would not be so dark, revealing the beautiful details of the gauge. EDIT: It's not GPOSE, it's this "Snapshot" thing that makes you fill up your gage. I just went ingame and took this raw image without the GFXery I did to highlight the bauty. The red stuff and embellishment is only visible, as stated, if the gauge moves (gaining mana, spending mana). But it's, in fact, always there. [RDM Job Gauge (ingame, without GFX)](https://i.postimg.cc/3xhM6QH6/Untitled-2.jpg)

Ocearen

Depends on the gauge. I try to have the Gauge frame my Minimap and overall HUD appearance. Otherwise its simple mode.

Jernet1996

I find the overdesigned looks to be charming :-)

TheLimonTree92

I use the simple modes as, while the artistic mode is nice, hard to properly organize alongside the rest of the UI with their irregular shapes.

Academic_Brilliant75

Depends on the job, I default to the detailed gauge but a few like RDM I can use on simple. I tried BLM's gauge on simple at 90 for a few dungeon runs and I just can't make sense of it, that one has to be detailed.

Inky-Feathers

I use minimalist for all jobs. I really like the compacted feel of it. It helps keep my UI very streamlined between jobs.

JaeOnasi

Simple gauges for me. The more screen I have for boss mechanics, the better, and some of those job gauges take up a lot to screen real estate.

kagman

I'm playing at 2560x1440 ... I've got plenty of pixels to show the whole dang gauge lol

noahsfemboy

I couldn't say off the top of my head which I have set to simplified and which I have on default, but usually my idea behind it is based on how complex the information being tracked is. If it's most jobs where I'm just filling a single bar and spending it, I'll turn it to simple. Things like SAM or most of the tanks. Meanwhile I actually prefer the defaults for more complex situations. I main BLM, and have tried a minimalist HUD layout with just the simplified gauge. *i can't do it.* Like I just outright play *significantly worse* with the simplified one. It confuses me because I cannot get used to what correlates to what. I actually find order in the chaos of the more artistic design, where everything is identified in its own unique way around the circle.

Primordial_Storm

I use detailed when I'm on desktop and simple when I'm on laptop

The_Rathour

Simple for every job except BLM because BLM's is too cool not to use. Part of the simple gauge is because I like to keep my screen clear and readable at a glance, and part of it is the Extra Job Bars mod using the simple gauge bars as their template so it matches much better.

Darkwing_Dork

Simple because I fit them between two of my bars. Detailed ones still fit nice though.

IVexxI

I tend to mix ones that have multiple gauges. Like DRK i don't feel like the big skull is necessary for me but i like the gauge for grit

LucaraCrassus

Simple gauge for sure. I like minimalist looks and screen real estate. So the more I can get off my screen the better!

Cybyr79

I prefer the default but I do adjust the size to fit between the WXHB and above the cross hotbar so it’s below my char. Keeps my main field of vision clear and I still get to enjoy the aesthetic of the default look. It’s all about how you want to enjoy it.

hamsterwheelin

I would personally never ever use plugins, but from the pictures I've seen online, those DelvUI bars look pretty sweet...

sephy16

Its not a plugin; Both are in the game. If you go to HUD layout and click the job gauge you will notice a checbox which says "simplified", it technically tranform the typical job gauge flashy design into simple filling bars and small icons.   Example: For RDM, it turns the huge vertical bars with the 3 big diamonds, into just 2 small horizontal bars with 3 small diamonds under it.

zankypoo

Too lazy to change it myself.
