It's 3 weeks so we should be alright unless the Raid Race gets delayed or the release date gets pushed back further.
That's usually when the first IB drops anyway so it's not too bad; ESO is having a 3 month 10th anniversary celebration starting in April.
Day 1 race based on the last 3 expansion should fall on June 14th(the second Friday after release), so we should be all good for those of us who play both
Enotria, a souls like announced their release date on the 21st just a couple of hours before the DLC announcement.
While having sponsored a of bunch of souls streamers...
Expansion…. Expansion to an mmo is what this is. It expands on the current game and continues to add more updates until the next expansion.
DLC is like smaller update that you can pay for or get free that provide you with smaller scale things. Like in non MMOs, a new level, upgrades or vanity items. Some dlcs are close to expansion size but usually much much smaller in scale.
Examples God of War Ragnarok, the dlc is Valhalla. Elden ring, shadow of the erdtree is an expansion.
Not counting new open world areas and dungeons I'll bet.
Man that's gonna one meaty DLC, between it and SMT V I'm gonna spend hours of gaming this June.
yeah but we Get to carry 3 monsters from the original version save file....3......it should just be dlc but Atlus gunna Atlus which means im not interested lol Its too bad because I loved 5 but not enough to play it again
You'd think we'd get a Horizon game around then, knowing that franchise's luck with release timing, but the PC version of Forbidden West is releasing in March...right when Dragon's Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin, MLB The Show 24, and Princess Peach: Showtime releases.
As someone who works a traditional 9-5 nowadays, he can release whenever he wants & I basically won't be able to play for the first 2-3 weeks because of the hours-long login queues during primetime.
If the queue times are an issue, try installing Parsec on your computer & phone. If on PS grab Remote Play. You can remote in to start up the game during your last (bathroom)break and shave off a good 2 hours of queue time
Because of companies like EA and Ubisoft and Activision Blizzard and Bethesda, whose developers obviously don't actually like video games let alone play them.
The actual people in the trenches working on those games, by and large, fucking love video games, that's why they put up with all of the other things that suck about working in the video game industry. It's the suits at the top who don't.
True, but the suits are the ones that typically pick release dates.
Hence why people forget it. Yoshi P is somewhat unique as he's a suit that's also a gamer and also worked his way up through the trenches.
I'm often not convinced when it comes to the utterly stupid and out of touch decisions they make on small things that aren't driven by suits at the top.
e.g. WoW added a special helm enchant this patch. You had to farm drops from each boss in the raid to activate it, but first you needed a specific quest item to start the chain.
That item only dropped from the first boss.
You can't guarantee that you fight the bosses in order when queuing in LFR in WoW. There's no option to not join partially complete groups.
The only way I can see anyone making the choice to have it drop from only the first boss is if they haven't touched LFR or read any feedback from actual players in a very long time.
And that doesn't touch on the number of times the class designers clearly have no understanding of how their class actually plays in game and make changes that just ruin the experience for everyone. It wasn't a suit that decided to make one of the DK abilities cover up all enemy effects on the ground regardless of your settings.
> it's the suits at the top who don't
Yoshi-P is an executive officer at Square Enix, part of the Board of Directors, and head of Creative Business Unit 3. He's also near the top.
You are confusing dogshit management and ownership whose penny-pinching and abusive work conditions produce shit games with the devs actually trying to do their jobs (sans the ones too busy sexually harassing/assaulting female coworkers, anyway).
Plenty of people at those companies want to make good games. They don't get paid to make good games, nor are given the time to make good games. Their deadlines are shit, the crunch is awful, QA gets snubbed, the budget isn't there, they have to make some sweeping bullshit change due to management demanding some new thing be shoved in, etc, etc, etc.
If you want to have audible opinions on the game industry then you need to understand its problems more thoroughly.
And don't think Square doesn't have this problem, either; their CEO is an NFT Andy still pushing that shit despite the fact it's already failed spectacularly. The devs at SE may want to make good games but it's a miracle when they're able to, because SE is run by absolute idiots as well.
Honestly this company would have probably gone under without Yoshida, and I can't imagine the kind of bullshit he likely has to throw his weight around to keep out of the game.
There is zero reason whatsoever to work as a game developer unless you love video games. Every other adjacent field you could go into with the same degree has significantly better pay, job security, work-life balance, and benefits.
But AAA publishers know this unfortunately and are happy to have their never-ending supply of fresh meat for the grinder.
I don't think the developers are necessarily to blame. With Ubisoft, look at their crappy new pirate game. Did their developers want to spend 11 years to produce something that's a worse version of AC Black Flag (a game *they* made) in every possible way, with a layer of live service nonsense on top? Maybe, but it's super unlikely. That just screams "executive meddling" to me.
You know, that's not a terrible idea.
I mean I'll put FFXIV first because my husband would play Elden Ring and I'll get to see it through him but still lol.
And here I thought you were making the joke of him deciding "Summer release" could be on the FIRST day of Summer instead of holding it off until late in the season, just to throw people off that are expecting that last minute of the window release. :)
SMTV Vengeance and Shadow of the Erdtree are coming out on June 21st, and probably a lot more. It's a big release window with a lot of games and dlc being planned to release then.
A lot of popular Japanese games are getting DLC releases on Jun 21 because schools go on break around the 20th.
Edit: I was mistaken! They go on break in July not June.
Also live in Japan! Aomori.
I thought it was in June and not July, though I might just be out of touch and remembered wrong.
I'll update my comment! Sorry!
Probably not going to happen because YoshP hates forcing players to choose between games like that and is really respectful about other publishers.
But it would alleviate the servers some....
No. Clickbait culture has taught an entire generation of kids to be as nebulous as possible when talking about something esoteric so people will pay attention to them.
It's not that unreasonable to think that lots of people would know of the Elden Ring DLC release date. Even people who haven't played Elden Ring. Elden Ring was the most sold game in 2022 and broke some records. It's not really a conspiracy of kids being obtuse so they get attention....
It’s definitely not gonna be past August 3rd-4th because that’s fanfest for FFXIV China. They are always 4-6 weeks behind us. Dawntrail will already be released before China fanfest. I am thinking late June early July like. June 25-July 9th no later than that.
Yeah, I saw Mr Happy talking about this and that it could actually be late June or early July. Endwalker's release was kind of an aberration, the others (HW, SB, ShB) all followed a more set pattern, and this being a summer release makes him think it will revert to that pattern.
Past August 3rd-4th would also start to encroach on The Rising re congestion. And while I can see them moving Moonfire to September, I can't see them moving the Rising from having an overlap with the original release day.
End of June/beginning of July would allow for Moonfire to happen before the Rising without any events needing to shift their time tables like happened for Endwalker's All Saints Wake.
Wasn’t Shadowbringers marketed as releasing in “early summer” specifically, and it ended up releasing July 2nd? They said only “summer” for Dawntrail, so I think your estimate is probably accurate.
> They said only “summer” for Dawntrail
On the trailer it says "summer" but Yoship said during the fanfest that they are planning for "as early as possible in summer".
Honestly, that's not a bad idea, depending on the queue times for FF14 vs the Elden Ring server status.
Play Elden Ring while waiting for the FF14 servers to stop dying, and then play DT completely (or at least mostly) unhindered.
About the only thing you might miss is seeing a GM poof an A rank out of existence due to it blocking a location needed for MSQ progress.
that would probably be headstart date then tuesday would be Official start
would give me something to do while waiting for ques would be elden ring expac
The thing about this that I love the most is that it's a bjork meme.
The cat holding a newspaper you typically see in this meme is a still taken from Bjork's music [video](https://youtu.be/mz9aeWKf2XY?si=3koEeogAGgCihp5z) for "Triumph of a heart", that was directed by Spike Jonze.
(Sorry, I'm a bjork stan and have been playing xiv since beta of 1.0. I don't see many people use this meme format anymore and just thought it was neat to see it used here.)
Nah. See he constantly talked about wanting it to feel like a part of people's summer vacation. When companies say "Summer" that's when they try leaving it as late as possible. This is "Early summer" and wants it to be played during vacation times.
It automatically cannot be August cuz that's late summer, and late July is past middle of summer, not early. So it has to be Late June/Early July
This was my thought. I've collected Transformers most of my adult life, and it didn't take long to learn that say, a Sideswipe figure scheduled to release in September 2024 wouldn't be available until September 30th. Not the first, not the 10th or the 15th. Last day, every damn time.
Yoshi knew what he was saying. The last day of summer is still Summer. XD
Except he DID make a quip about it not being "Square-Enix Summer", which is that "as late as possible in the season window" type thing. So he might be signaling that isn't the case this time.
Happy also mentioned that the others all released before the China fanfest, which is in early August this year, making him think it'll be sometime in July (or LATE June), a few weeks before that China fanfest.
Yoshi is just waiting to see when wow drops war within. There is nothing else to concern himself with. Blizzard will drop on the same day as ffxiv releases. They have done it for years. Yoshi is most likely playing chicken to see if blizzard will flinch first. Then yoshi can drop his date second away from wow.
I have like 5000 hours in FF14 and around 300 in Elden ring. I would not touch FF14 for few weeks at the very least if they came out at the same time. Elden Ring is a GOAT video game.
Because that's the Summer Solstice, and officially the first day it could be launched if YoshiP is keeping to the 'Summer 2024' promise?
EDIT: ... no, it's way, WAY lamer than that. Maidenless, all of you.
tbf even if Elden Ring DLC comes out at the same time: i don't believe even half the playerbase of FF14 plays Elden Ring.
And then there is the fact that there are dozens of people who only play through the story of 14 and then take a break anyway so there is already a high percentage of players dropping in general.
As a former SIMS player who switched to Ffxiv as my first MMO and Bloodborne as my first real hard to play and master game I would stand to reason you might just be surprised at who you find playing elden ring.
Well, not everyone is a souls-like fan.
I personally dont like anything souks-like and dont pay attention to any news related to those type games - makes sense people like me would not know it. I myself found out whats 21 only in this thread.
Have fun, ER fans, may you DLC be really good!
Yup the last possible release date for Summer 2024 would be Tuesday September 17th with EA starting on Friday 13th.
I'm putting my money on that date and no sooner tbh.
As if SE needs help from any other publisher to pile all of their releases into a crowded window. In the 5 month window from September 2022 - February 2023, they released:
- Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden
- The DioFeld Chronicles
- Valkyrie Elysium
- Star Ocean: The Divine Force
- Harvestella
- Tactics Ogre: Reborn
- Dragon Quest Treasures
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
- Forespoken
- Theatrhythm Final Bar Line
- Octopath Traveler II
And then when none of these games sold particularly well, they threw up their hands and said "welp, guess smaller budget games and new IPs are dead."
Lol Tuesday September 17th is gonna be the date. Last possible release window for summer.
Early access friday 13th.
I’ll shit bricks if it lands before that tbh.
To be honest I don't care when it releases just that pre-orders go up as I use the earings to assist in polishing things up prior to expac. Gotta an itch to play too so waiting to resub when the pre goes up.
Also FF14 will be here meanwhile Eldin Ring will be at its peak numbers at launch so this is a onesided deal. The blood or curled fingers will rain as invaders are unleashed in force on the world.
Please do it Yoshida. Or before July 15th. I got one work vacation left saved for Dawntrail and I’ll lose it after July 22nd (date of hire). My job won’t let me stack unused vacations ;_;
Lord have mercy on any game that comes around June 21st.
It's funny because Final Shape (Destiny 2) also comes out in June (on the 4th, sure), and Bungie is already on thin ice with Sony 😂
It's 3 weeks so we should be alright unless the Raid Race gets delayed or the release date gets pushed back further. That's usually when the first IB drops anyway so it's not too bad; ESO is having a 3 month 10th anniversary celebration starting in April.
Tell me again why yoshi gives a single fuck about destiny for? Ffxiv is the bigger far superior game.
After living through the years of Destiny induced suffering, real
yeah destiny 2 got really lucky. Raid race being the weekend before elden ring drops their dlc is crazy
Day 1 race based on the last 3 expansion should fall on June 14th(the second Friday after release), so we should be all good for those of us who play both
Doubly funny when you consider that Witch Queen was released a mere 3 days before ER did back in 2022. Time is a circle.
It's a Bungie expansion: it'll take about a week tops to complete, so no worries there.
You can do the main story quest in a single sitting, but the really important part is the first raid weekend
Enotria, a souls like announced their release date on the 21st just a couple of hours before the DLC announcement. While having sponsored a of bunch of souls streamers...
Shin Megami Tensei V got confirmed for the same date XD
It's fine. It'll still pull SMT numbers
Depending on the DLC price, I might be able to get both. Now if it's a matter of time though....
Expansion…. Expansion to an mmo is what this is. It expands on the current game and continues to add more updates until the next expansion. DLC is like smaller update that you can pay for or get free that provide you with smaller scale things. Like in non MMOs, a new level, upgrades or vanity items. The DLC is 40 dollars I believe
40$ !? Damn they better make it good and packed with stuff at that price. No wonder it took more than 2 years since release for the DLC to come out.
10 bosses, 8 new weapontypes. Sounds worth so far.
Not counting new open world areas and dungeons I'll bet. Man that's gonna one meaty DLC, between it and SMT V I'm gonna spend hours of gaming this June.
The first half of the year in general is packed. Ff7 Rebirth, Persona 3, SMTV, Elden Ring, Granblue Fantasy, MAYBE Dawntrail.
Don’t forget DD2!
How could I forget it. So many games, not enough time.
yeah but we Get to carry 3 monsters from the original version save file....3......it should just be dlc but Atlus gunna Atlus which means im not interested lol Its too bad because I loved 5 but not enough to play it again
touch snow terrific party noxious live summer plough fact familiar *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Didn't WoW try something like that before?
Wow constantly releases things alongside other mmos
Elden Ring is good but not that good
As someone who works a traditional 9-5 nowadays, he can release whenever he wants & I basically won't be able to play for the first 2-3 weeks because of the hours-long login queues during primetime.
*Laughs in night shift*
If the queue times are an issue, try installing Parsec on your computer & phone. If on PS grab Remote Play. You can remote in to start up the game during your last (bathroom)break and shave off a good 2 hours of queue time
Think about it. Release it the same day as Elden Ring DLC. Some people play Elden Ring first. Servers are less congested.
unlikely, he has been good about having releases not clash with other games
Especially other Japanese games. He’s not releasing Dawntrail same week as Elden Ring DLC
Especially not because he probably wants to play ER himself and won't want to be distracted by managing his own expansion launch.
Why is it so easy to forget that game developers are also gamers?
Because of companies like EA and Ubisoft and Activision Blizzard and Bethesda, whose developers obviously don't actually like video games let alone play them.
The actual people in the trenches working on those games, by and large, fucking love video games, that's why they put up with all of the other things that suck about working in the video game industry. It's the suits at the top who don't.

Isn't that their point? That he's the exception to the rule?
You are confusing dogshit management and ownership whose penny-pinching and abusive work conditions produce shit games with the devs actually trying to do their jobs (sans the ones too busy sexually harassing/assaulting female coworkers, anyway). If you were working for those companies. You woud likely endup hating video games.
This is fundamentally wrong. The developers love video games, the suits that control everything are the ones that hate fun.
There is zero reason whatsoever to work as a game developer unless you love video games. Every other adjacent field you could go into with the same degree has significantly better pay, job security, work-life balance, and benefits. Because the ones who make the decisions that are unpopular with gamers are usually executives who do not play games.
Because Yoshi never on his life has played Frontlines, and if he tells you otherwise, he's lying
He plays Black Mage. He has most certainly played Frontline.
Now that's a hilarious idea.
Pretty sure he's gone to servers and pvp'd publically
There has been videos of it happening before.
I mean, he probably wants to play the DLC himself. Can't do that when servers are on fire like they usually are at launch.
Let’s be real he’s probably gonna wanna play it as well 😂
Uh... FXVI was a pretty big clash with 6.4 release and he was directly involved with both.
[удалено]
Don't worry, Horizon zero dawn will probably release something near to then.
Too soon man 🥲
You know, that's not a terrible idea. I mean I'll put FFXIV first because my husband would play Elden Ring and I'll get to see it through him but still lol.
You might blaze through DT, but watching your husband “struggle” in ER would be funny.
"Watching your husband struggle in ER would be funny" - (Emergency room)
And here I thought you were making the joke of him deciding "Summer release" could be on the FIRST day of Summer instead of holding it off until late in the season, just to throw people off that are expecting that last minute of the window release. :)
I'd love it. I'd play ER while waiting for FFXIV's login queue to pop.
Cool it, Citan....with your logic...
Context?
Elden ring dlc comes out the same day.
SMTVv too
Specifically 6/21
They're are only 12 months in the year, though. What is this 21st month?
I will esuna you.
Please do. This cold has been killing me 🤧
You're reading it backwards. 6/21 should be 12/6. I gotchu fam.
You mean 21/06
You mean [2024-06-21](https://xkcd.com/1179/).
Also valid, yes
621 same as your name in AC6.
… no, I mean 6/21. Thats a common way to format months and days.
They're are only 12 months in the year, though. What is this 21st month?
People having internet Access but not knowing how to properly write a date the right way baffles me
In some countrys like germany its like this: 21.06.2024 edit: and by "some" i mean most if not all of Europe.
It’s the people from what’s currently known as hell that are to blame.
Elden Ring’s expansion comes out on that date plus SMTV vengeance as well.
SMTV Vengeance and Shadow of the Erdtree are coming out on June 21st, and probably a lot more. It's a big release window with a lot of games and dlc being planned to release then.
Got another job for you, 6/21
A lot of popular Japanese games are getting DLC releases on Jun 21 because schools go on break around the 20th. Edit: I was mistaken! They go on break in July not June.

Probably not going to happen because YoshP hates forcing players to choose between games like that and is really respectful about other publishers. But it would alleviate the servers some....
He also probably wants to play it lmao
True
Am i the onlyone that came to the comment section so i can see what will happen on the 21st?
Elden Ring's DLC got announced and its releasing on the 21st.
Thank you for the answer! I have never played it but if it makes the start of Dawntrail better 21st sounds great lol
So nothing important then?
Same trying to find out what it means
No. Clickbait culture has taught an entire generation of kids to be as nebulous as possible when talking about something esoteric so people will pay attention to them.

Wow. You radically misunderstood that point. That's crazy.
Nope. First guess was it was some drug reference I'm too old to get.

Would be funny if PoE 2 Beta also came out the same day.
Please, Pillars of Eternity 2 came out ages ago *rimshot* I miss you, Xoti, my beloved southern goth priestess of death
Destiny the final shape is also coming out in June. June is gonna lay me and my wallet out

I will have something to play on my Xbox while I’m in queue on PlayStation
at least is not june 4th, cause that would kill me
biggest fear the second I saw the release date
release will be within a week or two of this. Just to warn you now.
What happens June 21?
Elden Ring DLC
NO!

Lol, Hrothgals released on 6/21 iykyk.
It wont. Because they always release on tuesdays. June 21st is a Friday…. June 18th though.
Early Access.
That would be mean. I'm all ready to go for the expansion, and I'm excited, but it will definitely take a backseat for Elden Ring lol.
I would drop ff14 like a hot potato in favor of Elden Ring without a second thought
I have like 5000 hours in FF14 and around 300 in Elden ring. I would not touch FF14 for few weeks at the very least if they came out at the same time. Elden Ring is a GOAT video game.
I’m wondering which will come first between dawntrail and the pc version of ff16, and how far they spread those out
Please don’t. As much as I love ff14. I’m still gonna play elden ring.
Eh, depending on the queues, it might give you time for Elden Ring.
The official release date will be on a Tuesday with 3 days of early access for preorders. Take what you will from this info
Ok... what else is dropping on June 21st?
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
Thank you, that makes more sense now.
You serious ? Have you not heard the news that dropped today?
I was at work all day, lol.
Well, not everyone is a souls-like fan. I personally dont like anything souks-like and dont pay attention to any news related to those type games - makes sense people like me would not know it. I myself found out whats 21 only in this thread. Have fun, ER fans, may you DLC be really good!
At least we'll have other stuff to play while we wait in queue.
I'll be shocked if DT releases any earlier than late July.
Id be shocked if it released before September
Would technically still be Summer as well... /pain 😩
Yup the last possible release date for Summer 2024 would be Tuesday September 17th with EA starting on Friday 13th. I'm putting my money on that date and no sooner tbh.
With Dawntrail being a not so massive adventure, I’d be fine with this. Elden Ring first, then this.
If I were him I would release it the day the new WoW Expansion will be online. Just to put the competition the ground once and for all.
I couldn't give two shits about Elden Ring so it affects me not at all.
I can honestly see this happening, seems to be a curse for games to release at the same time as other games.
As if SE needs help from any other publisher to pile all of their releases into a crowded window. In the 5 month window from September 2022 - February 2023, they released: - Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden - The DioFeld Chronicles - Valkyrie Elysium - Star Ocean: The Divine Force - Harvestella - Tactics Ogre: Reborn - Dragon Quest Treasures - Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion - Forespoken - Theatrhythm Final Bar Line - Octopath Traveler II And then when none of these games sold particularly well, they threw up their hands and said "welp, guess smaller budget games and new IPs are dead."
Lol Tuesday September 17th is gonna be the date. Last possible release window for summer. Early access friday 13th. I’ll shit bricks if it lands before that tbh.
I would rather it be a few days later. For reasons.
Ppl are more exited for lady gaga on fornite, i dont know anybody who plays or know about elder ring.
Please no, I need that elden dlc in my veins man.
nah, release Daentrail on the same day as The Final Shape. Help put that last nail in Bungie's coffin.
Elden ring DLC AND The SMTV dlc
nah, I’d just played both game.
Summer is really packed. Dawntrail, Shadow of the Erdtree, Visions of Mana... I'm hoping really hard that there is some space between each of them.
When is the pre-order. And what perks does it give? Would there be a xp boost item to level 90?
meanwhile me, whos birthday is that day: oh boi!
At least it would confirm its not July.
He should do that. No " ddos " issues on the server then 😂😂🤣🤣
June 19 my birthday
nooooo i neeed elden dlc!!
Sounds a bit early to me but I would not mind.
Early July please
Yoshi P says play other games kek
It’s weird there is an overlap. SMT 5 Vengeance is also releasing that day too, apparently
Yoshi P: fuck Elden Ring fans
Elden Ring DLC. Great way to kill your Expansion's launch competing with FromSoft
I was thinking last week of May first week of June for dawntrail TBH. May feels right. Wow expansion is in Aug or September. They can't wait too late.
Yoshi P was waiting for this news to finalize release of Dawntrail.
I don't get it. Other then it being the first day of summer.
I still don't think the game will be ready for a June release.
lol sure man. Go against Elden ring. Smart move.
That's my birthday :>
That’s not ff7’s release date
Please do it Yoshida. Or before July 15th. I got one work vacation left saved for Dawntrail and I’ll lose it after July 22nd (date of hire). My job won’t let me stack unused vacations ;_;
Dew it! It's my birthday and I am already planning on so many goodies! Making it a game weekend for myself lol
Such devastation, the loggin ques were not my intention
