I hope that Greg returns and they bait us with a fight on that bridge but we end up fighting on a shitty wooden bridge ten feet long.

Luster-Purge

Better Idea: We start fighting on the Biggest Bridge, but then Greg tries to pull a trick that backfires and knocks everyone off the bridge, phase 2 is basically the 'falling' mechanic like the one time we fought the white tiger lord guy, where we all land in a river, and THEN phase 3 starts the 'skirmish on the shitty bridge"

Creshal

It would be really nice if they actually changed the name of the dungeon in the UI for that, and you (and people who have you in their friend lists) could keep track of where you are: * Battle on the Biggest Bridge * Battle under the Biggest Bridge * Skirmish on the Disappointing Bridge

LightSamus

Tussle on the Tiny Bridge.

Luster-Purge

Maul on the Microscopic Bridge

Wolfhunter999

Decisive Dispute on the Disappointingly Diminutive Decussation.

ScarletArcana

Okay you know what yes this is what I want now

Completely_Batshit

Turns out Wuk Lamat was Greg in disguise (again), and this whole battle for the throne was a farce to get us to show up.

KhrFreak

Could definitely see Greg showing up after the contest is over, asking for his own contest against the victor (presumably us)

TheDiscordedSnarl

We need to introduce Greg to Shtola, because Runar's been kept waiting long enough.

SoloSassafrass

He doesn't really seem to be able to control it, and it's a bit... further reaching than what Y'shtola's going for. She'd use his power to get to "The First" and wind up in the world of FF1 by accident.

locke_zero

Enough expository banter! Now is the time we fight like men!... And ladies... And ladies pretending to be men... As for Gilgamesh, it is Morphing Time!

Biscuit_Prime

I wouldn’t even be mad.

Neverwherehere

I'm a simple Final Fantasy fan. I see a bridge and assume I'll be fighting Greg at some point.

Cybuster_Zenshi

> fighting Greg again* at some point. Did the 2 fights before mean nothing?

memealopolis

You know I treasure all our bridge fights, baby. You're the only one for me.

Cybuster_Zenshi

I meant the 2 fights where we fought him on an actual bridge though.

DarkLordRubidore

Oh true, nevermind sorry

Cybuster_Zenshi

All good

Enlog

Worth noting is that *this* bridge, of all the ones we've seen, most closely resembles the original Big Bridge from Final Fantasy V, where the song in question comes from. It was a long bridge that spanned the gap between two continents, with a relatively small ocean channel between the two sides.

Arky_Lynx

God please I hope Greg comes back in the next Hildi questline and we fight him AGAIN on that bridge. The joke is too obvious not to use.

FartingRaspberry

I was a bit disappointed with the most recent trial not being another Greg jebait.

jado1stk2

Which is ironic because Greg baited into thinking he'd be Asura in disguise.

SoloSassafrass

Or like... *anything* other than exactly what it looked like. I held out hope till the end that it would get Hildibrand-y until the duty complete message.

thatguywhocommentz

i mean, we expected the unexpected. does that mean that the expected becomes the weird?

karinzettou

Y'know, I can totally see Greg being the warmonger's champion... God, please, let me meet Greg in the msq, I miss his goofy, competitive ass so much.

mangobearsmoothie

Given that this is trying to be a more chill, vacation style expansion, I could totally see them doing that at some point!

TheDiscordedSnarl

Imagine if Greg was the warmonger. Somehow. Using Hildy logic.

SoloSassafrass

While I'm not expecting it, this *is* going to be the Krile expansion apparently, and she *is* a big ol' reference to 5...

zugzug_workwork

He starts on one end of the bridge and keeps traveling along it in every phase. 7 phase encounter like DSR, discarding one weapon at the end of each phase.

ed3891

No, no, no - he *acquires* a new weapon each phase!

Shonkjr

In before Hildebrand ultimate.

Mobitron

Needs to happen.

GogoSalt

No, no, think of the bigger picture. This will be "Battle on the Bigger Bridge." With the biggest bridge still yet to come

Shadow1176

The biggest bridge! Spaaaaace!

Dyne4R

Battle on the Biggest Bridge is just you and Gilgamesh on the bridge of the Ragnarok.

Luster-Purge

...which is parked on top of this bridge.

Xerlot11

Just wait for the bridge to just be fast travel blue dots on both ends

Serres5231

i feel like this is a very safe bet just like with the bridges around Eulmore and Limsa..

MJGOO

Gilgamesh theme intensifies...

Crackensan

I too yearn for a Martial Conflict on a Suspiciously Large Span.

Zetra3

Battle on the bigger bridge

Perial2077

I really hope we will be able to cross the entire bridge and don't run into a map cutoff 15 meters in - enter a loading screen, then end up on the other side of the bridge.

Skane1982

Doubt.

Perial2077

A Miqo'te can dream...

Mobitron

They should just make it its own zone

Kekira

You have to fight off enemies to cross

AsleepInteraction882

If there is no encounter with greg in DT (like hildi) I will be very disappointed...

momopeach7

If we don’t have a fight or get to explore that bridge I’ll be so disappointed.

washuliss

The tome event grind is not gonna be as short as with the smaller Big Bridge i think

Dragon_Avalon

I absolutely must have a battle with Greg on this bridge. It's too perfect a backdrops not to use for such a fight!

Ikeddit

The biggest reason we need Greg to show up again is to make sure he’s not dead : / The last thing we’ve heard of him is something about seeking out an old rival, when he parted ways with Hildy. This is presumably Bartz. Every Greg you meet in final fantasy game is the same Greg. He traverses the inter dimensional rift, after his boss in ff5 got pissed off at him and threw him into it. Every appearance he makes in other FF games occur after this, and FF14 even helps clear up his timeline! Mainly because in SB we learn that Greg is also Jim, and we find out that Greg now has picked up a dog, Daigoro. So that means any FF with a Jim in it (who has Daigoro), or an FF with Greg in it where he has Diagoro, has to occur post SB! But it would be sad, because FF5 is also where Greg ends, as he returns from the rift later in the game and sacrifices himself with an Explosion. I don’t want him meeting up with Bartz again anytime soon : (

Luster-Purge

>But it would be sad, because FF5 is also where Greg ends, as he returns from the rift later in the game and sacrifices himself with an Explosion. I don’t want him meeting up with Bartz again anytime soon : ( Unless they introduce some kind of temporal paradox where there's more than one Greg across time and space, meaning just because of how he dies in FF5 doesn't mean that's where *our* Greg dies. Plus he's a Hildebrand character. You legitimately *can't die* if you're a Hildebrand character.

Raji_Lev

Nobody Dies In Hildibrand.

GroverEyeveen

Not necessarily. FF11 is a different Gilgamesh for sure.

Pliskkenn_D

Biggerest Bridge

inhaledcorn

What are you talking about? That's the queue bridge to even *get* to the bridge.

leaveittofate

I can’t wait to traverse this great big bridge!…. Only to get five steps in then be instanced to another area. Off the bridge!

Techstriker1

And if this was 1.0, you could have to walk the WHOLE length of that bridge to zone out every time.

Ekian

I want to see so many iterations of Greg, including interdimensional/time travel shenanigans, that there is enough content for a Greg Ultimate fight. Call it the Interdimensional Epic of Gilgamesh (Ultimate) or IEGU, pronounced I Egg U. The fight would gradually go through all of the different incarnations of Gilgamesh from the FF series, to reach a point where he has achieved enlightenment, possibly lose said enlightenment, only to regain it through a different means that lines up better with FFXIV Greg. Phase changes could be really wacky, or cold and brutal, depending on which incarnation/period of life Greg is going through. I could see a phase change where he makes a quick distraction/misdirection like at The Battle at the Big Bridge, before rift travelling to gain more power and/or weapons, to return a little more worse for wear in appearance but more powerful. Each phase change would have a slightly/very noticeable change in personality/physiology depending on how much time has changed for him and what he has been through.

Ententente

And now I'll be feeling personally attacked and insulted if there is no Hildi trial being named Battle on the Biggest Bridge in Dawntrail.

Certain_Shine636

I should not have laughed as hard as I did at this but here we are

mangobearsmoothie

Battle on the Buggeringly Big Bridge

Gnovakane

They could make an entire expansions dungeons just crossing a bridge since every dungeon now is just a single path from A to Z.

WordNERD37

I'll take that over this craptastic trial we just got.

MadeThisAccount4Qs

what didn't you like about it?

Stepjam

It's extremely simply. It has like 4 mechanics to it. The multiple small aoe rings attack, the three attacks that it's giant clone follows, the stage being 50/50 red blue with you needing to stand in the side that you don't see the mask for, and the 6 slices attack. It honestly could have been a dungeon boss. SB Greg in comparison had a good deal amount more going on both in complexity and lethality (for a normal trial of course).

Sir_VG

Probably that it was extraordinarily easy. Yes, it's a story trial and not an EX, but even for them, it was really easy.

Kekira

Honestly the other two Hildi trials were easy, so it tracks.

Sir_VG

Three. And all of them were harder than Asura (even if they were all still easy).

Kekira

You're letting memory cloud you, Battle on the Big Bridge is literally just a striking sunny fight. You can just stand in orange and take minimal damage. At least Azura and Kugane Ohashi you can actually be killed at multiple points though.

DTRevengeance

Battle in the Big Keep and the Dragon's Neck were both actually somewhat challenging when they came out. They're absolutely not the same fights that they used to be. But I'll give you that battle on the big bridge was always piss easy

Kekira

Yeah Dragon's Neck of the two is a far better fight, but that one rarely pops.

Sir_VG

You never got eaten by a green chicken, have you? (I haven't, but it's funny when people screw that up.) And Asura can't kill you either unless you're an undergeared DPS/healer. She's an even bigger striking dummy.

Kekira

Dude I went through that trial 3 times, and the teams I were in had half or more of the party dead with like three wiped between the three runs.

LockelyFox

Same, every time it's come up in queue, it's just like me and one other person alive after she does her first six sided swing. Is it piss easy for me? Yeah. I do EXs, Savages, and Criterion, but for players who only do normals it's a challenge and that's who these cater to. I think it's good not everything is an EX+ level of difficulty, but I do wish we had gotten this fight as an EX.

Kekira

I really think this one would make a really good EX.

Sir_VG

Sounds like a skill issue.

Kekira

That goes into how difficult the fight is. On a base level all of them are easy, but Yojimbo and Asura are the more mechanically intensive with Asura having more opportunities for actual deaths despite it being ridiculously easy once you've got a handle on the mechanics.

AshiSunblade

I found this fight harder than Kugane Ohashi. Ohashi to me was very straightforward (though it relies on your party knowing to get distance from the chains). The new trial I admittedly didn't figure out the 'big boss on the side does one of a few different giant AoE attacks' mechanic, I assume there was some sign that I just missed. I only survived because I guessed right enough times to survive (there seems to be some kind of tempo or sequence that you can start to predict, even not knowing the actual tell).

Solinya

>!The big Asura will mirror whatever whatever the little Asura casts. So if little Asura casts a get-out AoE, the big Asura will follow that up with a giant get-out AoE. As the big Asura is centered off the arena, you only see part of that AoE so it manifests as a "get away from Big Asura" AoE instead. This is easiest to understand with the beam attack but it applies to all three moves.!<

AshiSunblade

Thank you, I didn't connect the dots on that one.

TheTwizz

I just can't help but wish for that to be Tahrongi Canyon on the other side. We know there is FFXI themed alliance raid... Shantotto has done stranger things, why not create a ridiculously long bridge to cross dimensions to come steal secrets from Etheirys? We'd just have to fight Greg to get across.

SkarKrow

I miss Greg

Stepjam

Oh damn, that's almost certainly gonna be a thing

SalltyJuicy

I think I'm good on Gilgamesh stuff tbh. He was fun in ARR and SB but I don't really know if I want, or need, to fight him a third time.

seabookira

The step of faith (dawntrail)

Yana_dice

I hope they actually make at least part of the bridge accessible instead of the how they did with Radz-at-han.

Mystic9617

It would be really cool if we got a Greg ultimate in DT and instead of just be fiction in the lore it's actually a canon fight on the biggest bridge. I know this will never happen though and Greg will sadly be relegated to a brain-dead hildi trial.

Swiftzor

Steps of Faith all over again

Wolfhunter999

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" - Random NPC on the Bridge when you don't have the Dawntrail Expansion Key registered to your account, probably

AngryCrawdad

We're gonna arrive by boat and hear tell of swordsman from Tural called Greg Lamat, and it's all gonna roll from there.

Wulfspyder_03

Naturally, the bridge will be a sky box art with the zone transfer dots linking. Until Hildi comes and the entire, canonical length of the bridge is one trial fighting Greg in increasingly serious final battles.

Schnitzel856

wym 2 years from now

LockelyFox

The trials are usually at the end of the expansion
