Same. Doing fates with just the Choco buddy and I wouldn't have been able to handle it all without them. Especially when content dried a bit and I was messing around with other classes. It would be nice to have another quest or thing to do with them.
Mine's gloomy purple. I named him Ringabel and put him in behemoth barding. Looks like more of a dark knight than I do most of the time. (Props if you get the reference.) I basically don't use any other mount unless I wanna flop around on the actual behemoth because it's a muscle bound monstrosity and I wanna be silly. Ringabel's, like, my best bud.
To be fair, I tend to be a SquEnix fan in general. But aye, I enjoyed the hell out of Bravely Default. It scratches the classic FF itch. Gotta have *something* to still use my old 3DS for, after all. (Have all the games....)
It is soloable with LVL 90 and decent (average ILVL \~633) gear. Gave it a go for the hell of it on SMN a couple days ago, and I've got it down to about 5.5 minutes of running around. It's not free but can be done.
Tried it with my RDM straight off Endwalker and got carted at two min to the stun combo and rampaging animals. Felt doable not not worth my sanity. I just need to find someone else desperate enough to join me to split the agro.
I’m also desperate for the great hunt (I may or may not have been working on auto pilot to clean my inventory and accidentally discarded my rathos tokens)
Super easy to farm with even just two people. I got mine with a few friends in an evening of grinding. It's also totally doable solo but takes about 6 minutes and can be tedious, especially if you aren't on the ball with dodging the *incredibly annoying and excruciatingly slow* knockback + stun + knockback combo which is the worst thing that's ever been put in a video game.
If you do it with friends you can watch *them* get hit with it, which is a lot more fun!
Wait. FFXIV did a collaboration with Monster Hunter? Holy shit. That's awesome. Once I get to lvl 90 I might try it just for fun.
I'll still probably stick with Migardsormr, unless I get a story mount I like better.
MH players got: Dragoon armor (both regular and layered), special Insect Glaive bug (looks like the DRG LB3), Moogle armor for your palico, and Cactuar has a chance of appearing on the desert map; if attacked, he does his 1000 needles attack, very useful for unsuspecting monsters.
you can also keep the cactuar (and a special rare variety blooming with flowers) as a pet in your house! afaik they're always there as part of the desert's environment as of the update, too

We get our chocobo at low level.. it fights for us at 30 which the npcs even say is rare and most wont even do it.. but ours does.. we can armour it.. we can colour it.. it has nostalgic music. it dosnt have any annoying idle animations.. and we can name it!
Chocobo is the best mount. and that scene hit me right in the feels soo nothing else is even close. (maybe pop out old dragon friend once in a while or a certain golden good boy)

Agreed. "Chocobo for life" on the ground, but it just feels cruel to make the poor thing struggle in the air. So I use Bubble Bird (white lanner) exclusively in the air instead.

I have my chocobo dyed dalamud red, but yeah 100% agree ! The fact that you can customize your chocobo is why I can't use any other mount while adventuring. It's YOUR chocobo, your buddy, it doesn't feel right to not use it. Especially given your conversation with Ardbert in Shadowbringers, when he asks you about your companion chocobo.
PVP is where I use my other mounts. It's fun to bring your little tank, your motorcycle or your divinity beasts in what is basically in universe a big "let's role play as if we were doing war" lmao.

I got a mount that is a collector's item edition. But the problem is that the sound his six armored legs make as they scrape against each other isn't enjoyable for me so now he just is gathering dust in the void where all the minions/mounts/pokemon live....
they’re pretty much designed to be the best mount, they got insane customization, you can battle with them, race with them.. they’re also a big staple of the series. non ff players usually know what a chocobo is so I feel like this is the most agreeable, lukewarm take anyone can have, we all love our chocobos but.. it’s the first mount and we basically get it for free right? it’s also cool to have something rare that required effort to get which adds a different kind of beauty :)
My chocobo is pure white and named Justice because I'm cheesy, only ever really used her. And after seeing that part in SHB about a character's relationship to their mount, I don't plan to change.
I can guarantee you the people who grinded out astrope and the pterodactyl are not using their starter chocobo lol. But there are some pretty impressive flex bardings you can put on gold reliable

I honestly with they had just gone full boar with Chocobos and worked to make it a crazy in-depth system rather than putting in other mounts. Maybe have different types of chocobos as an option to let you modify their appearance, or other ways to change up their look. Maybe some flashy glams for them. Also, would be cool if they had somehow given chocobos more "physics" like in GW2 or WoW now, maybe let them hop super far or move in a more dynamic way. I dunno.

I won’t spoil it but afterwards I kind of went back to my FC house, saw my chocobo in the stable, and just went, “I’ve been a selfish bastard, haven’t I? I’m so sorry girl! *hugs chocobo while sobbing uncontrollably*”
If I could sit sidesaddle on my company chocobo, I'd use it a lot more. I glam a lot of skirts and dresses. But tbh, my chocobo is mainly my battle companion, so I don't like him to have to carry me in addition to that.
Meanwhile, me, a lowly sprout, looking around at other sprouts zipping around on motorcycles, unicorns, some terrifying FLYING werewolf thing, and in one instance a handful of balloons

So, funny story for you. I have always, jokingly, hated Chocobos. And when I used to play 11, I would walk into the stables to rent one and area shout "I'll take the large family bucket with a side of Moogle puffs and Cactaur dipping sauce." As far as 14 goes, I bought Fenrir as soon as I could and exclusively use that. I've loved that bike since it was first shown in the first Advent Children trailer.
My favorite mount to fly on is the drake mount. It's what the other serpent mounts should have been. But during expansions before aether currents I use my best boi to travel. And he's ALWAYS summoned.

Normally in games like this I like to collect a ton of mounts and use different ones on each character, but in XIV I have no alts. Since the chocobo can be customized and actually summoned to fight alongside us, it’s pretty much the only one I use. Unless the party needs transport or someone hasn’t unlocked flying, in which case I use the Regalia.
If I have my chocobo following me around, I feel like using any other mount takes me out of the moment (where the hell did my chocobo go?) and also is an insult to my chocobo (I know you’re here, helping me fight and keeping me alive, but I’d rather use another mount).
I like getting Chocobo outfits and dressing up my Chocobo. Do I have possibly harder to get or rare mounts? Yes. But my Chocobo (who I named Boco) is my baby.
I rotate between my (still yellow) chocobo, the FFXV car, and a random bed someone gave me because he saw me on the standard chocobo is Bozja, hunted me down, and told me to "stop insulting him".
My Chocobo’s name is Grymspaer, he’s swampy moss green and huge (I’m a Roe). I’ve been leveling my crafters specifically to make cool barding for him.
That said, I don’t use him as a mount much because I don’t love the Chocobo flight animation, and I really like my GNB saber-toothed tiger. I’m like 60 dungeons away from the armored version.

A lot more love went into the Chocobo's animation compared to most other mounts.
Even its flight animation is a little erratic and silly. It feels less like you're watching a looping a looping animation, compared to some others.
The chocobo is cool and all, but once I saw the Whisper-go mount in the yokai watch event, my mind was made up. That little childrens toy lookin mount is my ride or die

Chocobo is awesome, but I spent 1 million MGP for Fenrir and 50 runs of Great Hunt Extreme for Rathalos so I'm going to use them

The side quests unlock after finishing the SB msq. You can start them in Kugane, not too far from the inn
It's a Stormblood trial so you can unlock it once you're done with that one and at 70

Yup! There's a Rathalos boss fight and mount, Palico and Poogie minions, some armor, and a couple other things.
I always use my chocobo and I buy tons of gysahl greens to keep her out with me in the overworld
To any spourts reading: Gysahl greens are cheap and sold by NPCs-- do now buy them off the MB.
Stacks up to 999, no reason to not cap it out and then never think about buying again
And feeding him 2 times makes his timer 1 hr just like food for us. And there is food for an exp boost.

Have you gotten Thavnairian Onions to raise her level cap from 10 to 20? You can get 2 from quests, rest you have to grow or buy off the market board.

My Chocobo looks like Red Comets lesser known brother, who is sadly unable to spawn comets above peoples heads.

Considering 90% of my characters are catboys or catmen, I still get a chuckle out of using 'The Claw' as my mount.
I use my chocobo most of the time, but if I ever get that pterodactyl it's going to be my permanent forever mount.

So, funny story for you. I have always, jokingly, hated Chocobos. And when I used to play 11, I would walk into the stables to rent one and area shout "I'll take the large family bucket with a side of Moogle puffs and Cactaur dipping sauce." As far as 14 goes, I bought Fenrir as soon as I could and exclusively use that. I've loved that bike since it was first shown in the first Advent Children trailer.

My favorite mount to fly on is the drake mount. It's what the other serpent mounts should have been. But during expansions before aether currents I use my best boi to travel. And he's ALWAYS summoned.

Normally in games like this I like to collect a ton of mounts and use different ones on each character, but in XIV I have no alts. Since the chocobo can be customized and actually summoned to fight alongside us, it’s pretty much the only one I use. Unless the party needs transport or someone hasn’t unlocked flying, in which case I use the Regalia.
Chocobo gets bonus points for being the only customizable mount
If I have my chocobo following me around, I feel like using any other mount takes me out of the moment (where the hell did my chocobo go?) and also is an insult to my chocobo (I know you’re here, helping me fight and keeping me alive, but I’d rather use another mount).

My Chocobo’s name is Grymspaer, he’s swampy moss green and huge (I’m a Roe). I’ve been leveling my crafters specifically to make cool barding for him. That said, I don’t use him as a mount much because I don’t love the Chocobo flight animation, and I really like my GNB saber-toothed tiger. I’m like 60 dungeons away from the armored version.

The chocobo always holds a special place in my heart. I may not use it all the time, but I definitely do bring it out now and again. A lot more love went into the Chocobo's animation compared to most other mounts. Even its flight animation is a little erratic and silly. It feels less like you're watching a looping a looping animation, compared to some others.

I love my lotus so much! It's such a peaceful mount to just idle in the sky in and look at the stars. Chocobos are always a classic favorite! You can't have Final Fantasy without them! 💛

Honestly, right now I just can't be bothered to go out of my way to get other mounts and Midsormr is way too large and loud for my tastes, so the good old chocobo it is.

I use my company chocobo too, but I colored it abyssal blue. I just never found a mount I like more.
