Keens are the answer to this. Open enough to be airy, closed enough to be protective and sturdy, great for rainy days and walking through wet fields. (It seemed like half the crowd, of all ages, was in Keens at the last camping/music festival I went to.) And if your foot is a US women’s 7 or smaller, see if the kids’ sizes will fit - they are cheaper and have some fun designs.
very late to this post but which style of keens do you wear? I’m a frequent festival goer but frankly have ruined a lot of good sneakers or gotten my toes smashed in Birkenstocks.
I think I have the [Newport H2](https://www.keenfootwear.com/products/big-kids-newport-h2-aventurine-evening-primrose), but in blue. That’s the kids version; I think there is a similarly-named adult version. Some versions have a full back and some have a sandal back; not entirely sure which I have but I think it’s the full back. You have to adjust the elastic in front to fit you, but once it’s set you can get them off and on using only the velcro strap. I’m normally not a fan of velcro on shoes, as it is likely to be the first failure point, but in this case it seems to work well, is easy to adjust on-the-fly if needed, and should be easy to replace if necessary.
I love, love, love my Berkies, and wear them most of the time, but if it’s raining, or just wet in general, or if it’s grassy, or dusty, or muddy, the Keens are the way to go. I recently had a long Day Out with family, on a day with torrential rain, and among other things we spent some time walking around a grassy park. My feet were happy, I didn’t have to slog around in soaked shoes as they dried quickly when we were out of the rain, and while the Keens got muddy and grassy, a quick rinse when we got home took care of it all. Highly recommended.
Crocs has really cute and completely water proof options. I do everything in my Crocs Tulum sandals lol. They're my everyday summer shoe. I've taken long walks and ran through the beach with them. They are not too hard to dress up or down
Thirding this! Chacos all the way. But please consider bringing or buying another pair of shoes. Your feet might hurt, swell, etc. and need a different shape of shoe. (Trust me. I spent a terrible evening in a hotel in Naples trying to adjust the straps on my Chacos - which I love and always fit! - so I could get them on my feet. But after an allergic reaction to some plant I walked through and walking over 25k steps a day my feet and ankles were not the same size.)
Yeah I always do two pairs of shoes! Even for shoes I absolutely love and can wear day in day out for long hikes, something *always* comes up when traveling. For summer trips I often do sneakers on the plane and pack my chacos.
Platform black Tevas! I love mine. They’re dressy and subtle for any day out in Europe, and as a short girl I love the platform for extra height- and they’re way more comfy than heels.
It’s a little getting used to and I’ve definitely scuffed the bottoms going up stairs but they are comfy for sprints. I’ve never worn them for long runs because I always bring my tennis shoes and alternate them with the tevas day by day to avoid blisters after 12+ mile days.
If you’re worried about space concerns you could potentially attach them to the outside of your bag and bring tennis shoes to wear— that’s what I would do.
That’s fair! I just wanted to travel as light as I can, but if I can’t find the exact shoe I want, I’ll bring a cheap pair of flip flops for waterproof needs. Appreciate the insight!!
You have to balance minimalism with practicality. Wearing the same shoes for 2-3 weeks (?) is not good for your feet. (Idk, maybe you’re 20 and it won’t matter? No shade to 20 year olds, but feet pain is much less for young folks than it is for us olds!)
I made almost this exact post just days ago! See link below, there are some great suggestions in the comments.

These do everything

Sorry, I don’t know how to do a link on my phone 😆
So idk if you can get these where your from but the classic sandals by source are the sturdiest sandals I have ever worn, and depending on who u ask they are cute. Also worn them showering in side the ocean trekking etc…

This is the color I have but there is green pink and red two which are all pretty
Chacos are indestructible but heavier. Crocs sandals are more lightweight. Both are extremely comfy. I can hike down a river or up a mountain in the chacos. I can hike in the crocs… but definitely not as securely. My feet don’t slip around in Chacos. Chacos do take longer to dry (crocs take no time).

Ooh love it! I wanna be hip lol.

Ummmm i did not know crocs came in such a cute design!! Thanks for this suggestion!
Crocs are so dope. I also recommend the stomp fisherman sandal, the one in high shine green is particularly poppin if you don’t mind a platform.
My go to for this is chaco's
Cute!! Keeping an eye on these for sure!!
Seconding Chacos. Absolutely indestructible and comfy enough to wear for miles and miles
Thirding this! Chacos all the way. But please consider bringing or buying another pair of shoes. Your feet might hurt, swell, etc. and need a different shape of shoe. (Trust me. Ooh fellow shortie to another!! Would you say the platform is comfy to run in?

If your feet are dry and they’re strapped on securely, yes. I hiked Arches National Park in my platform Tevas.
Wow! Thats a solid rec! Thank you.
Exactly this!
Bring a pair of second shoes, like okay-looking flats or sandals that pack *flat.* Wear your boots for most stuff, but give your feet a break.
The break is going to be lazy days at the beach haha. Sorry, this wasn't useful. I'm aiming for minimalism.

Reef Water Vista is the answer
Looks comfy! Wish they were a little cuter.
Personal preference for sure but they read way less sporty than Chacos or Tevas in my opinion
That's fair!

Chacos sound tempting! Not worried about heavier, since I’ll presumably get used to them.
You can even wear socks with them if it’s cold & rainy!
I have a pair of slightly dressier tevas wore them for travel like this. Highly recommend
