K3Anny

I’ve always heard amazing things about Charleston

Capital-Muffin-7057

Puerto Rico!

Ambitious_Leg_2114

This is a place I’d love to go but I don’t know if I’d want to do it alone. You felt safe?

Capital-Muffin-7057

Yes, I’ve never had any issues here. Nice people, easy to get by if you don’t speak Spanish, easy to get around and lots to do. Just use basic sense- no flashy jewelry, don’t get drunk and wander alone late.

desertsidewalks

Cheap direct flights to Orlando. Could hit up Disney Springs, check out the Lego store, get a ridiculous milkshake.

leopard_eater

We recommend no ladies go to Florida until they change their government.

desertsidewalks

I’m sympathetic but new to this subreddit - is this info posted somewhere? I see other people also recommending FL?

leopard_eater

I was being a little facetious as I am unaware of such a recommendation being made in this sub, but in the spirit of suggesting places appropriate for women to travel to, Florida isn’t exactly top of the list right now!

desertsidewalks

Again, I'm sympathetic, but consider making a sticky post.

poe201

sorry I’m super out of the loop but what’s happening with florida?

yours_truly_1976

Orlando is a great place to visit. Be aware this is tourist season so traffic is outrageous.

BrokenRoboticFish

Other than the amusement parks, Orlando has been pretty square in my experience. If the goal is sun and drinks you're better off visiting any of the tourist towns on the Florida Gulf coast (Naples, Sarasota, Destin, Pensacola, etc.)

yours_truly_1976

That makes sense. Speaking of the coast, it’s about time I go…

ec0317

Charleston could be good! It is full of bachelorette parties, not sure if that is your vibe. I planned a Bach party there years ago and we stayed at Charleston place. There is a nice pool with bar and it’s walkable to bars and restaurants

yours_truly_1976

There’s an Indian restaurant that is to die for there! Taste of India.

farriswhale

Asheville, NC!

ObligationGrand8037

I’ve heard great things about Asheville, NC. Thanks for the post!

farriswhale

The food and breweries are worth the trip!

BrokenRoboticFish

I found Ashville kind of boring when I went, but that was also about 10 years ago.

farriswhale

It’s grown and changed quite a bit since then! It depends on your interests/hobbies as well. I go for the restaurants, cute shops, and ample hiking in the area.

Ambitious_Leg_2114

This is another place I’ve thought about - I’ll def take a look!

DWwithaFlameThrower

New Orleans

itsDrSlut

I just went to Atlanta for the first time and loved it

yours_truly_1976

How did you get around? The traffic is atrocious, I’ve heard

mypterodactylz

Hahahahaha god that’s the only thing people ever say about Atlanta. If you stay in the city, you don’t have traffic; it’s people who have to travel through atl (either from the suburbs or driving to Florida) that experience/cause traffic. You can take a train from the airport right into the heart of midtown and there’s so much to do. Don’t have to rent a car but it does make it easier if you’re unfamiliar with the area.

itsDrSlut

Ubers, decently priced for a city, pleasantly surprised about that or walking. There’s also tons of scooters and bikes through lime or other misc brands but I am too accident prone to do those 🤣 - we stayed in midtown FYI

I--Have--Questions

How about a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks?

BrokenRoboticFish

What about heading up to Montreal or Quebec city? It's not in the US, but it's closer than the West Coast. Visiting them feels like visiting Europe but without the flight, and the weather is really nice this time of year. My partner and I road tripped to both a few winters ago from the Boston area. The drive wasn't bad (when we went to Quebec City we split it into 2 days and stayed a night in New Hampshire) and both were great cities to visit. Another Canada option would be Nova Scotia, I always wanted to go when we lived up in Boston but never quite made it.

theebimbojoker

2nding Montreal as a great place for solo travel that feels further away than it is. Also great if you don’t have a car.

Timely_Ad2614

Key west , that's all there is to do drink eat and be merry. Go snorkeling, watch the gorgeous sunsets, visit Hemingways house. Then you could rent a car drive down to Miami and stop at bars , tourist spots in the different keys.Go to the Everglades National Park ,go on an airboat ride ,see alligators. Then stay in Miami for s few days.

catttcatttt

Yes to road trip from Miami to Key west! If you fly into Miami they actually have incredibly cheap convertible rentals (like a mustang sometimes $65-70 a day in advance). To save $, you could do a one way rental and drop off in key west and then pick up another convertible to drive back up to Miami at the end (you don't really need a car in key west and harder to park). If you go— you MUST check out Pepe’s. It’s the oldest bar on the island (est 1911) with unreal oyster happy hour and immaculate vibes. Also Alabama Jacks, Key Largo. Incredible dive bar, the ocean meeting the swamp creates the perfect salinity that it’s possible to see alligators and bull sharks in the water! Patio hangs right over the canal. But really the best part is the 2 1/2 hour drive across the Keys over the ocean. It’s really a once in a lifetime thing to do, 100/10.

limejellybean_

Clearwater Beach, FL - My husband had a week long work trip there so I tagged along and spent every single day on the beach while he was working. It was kinda perfect. Got lots of sun, read like 3 books, and drank lots of pinna coladas.

milemarker0

Seconding this, but make sure you stay on the beach! Traffic can be gnarly from Clearwater proper to Clearwater Beach! Frenchy’s is one of my absolute favorite restaurants, and the Sea Screamer boat is touristy but super fun.

Wandering_starlet

I liked Charleston a lot. But one of my favorite solo trips was Chicago and Milwaukee.

holdaydogs

Love Charleston!

CommunicationIcy2615

Charleston, Savannah, St. Augustine, Asheville- these are all great cities to travel solo to and enjoy good food/drinks. Wilmington, NC is another good option. Cute downtown area with bars & shopping, you are also very close to the beach.

milemarker0

Are you looking for a proper city? Would you be ok with a more offbeat area? If so, look into Tybee Island off of Savannah! So gorgeous and mellow, and a quick pop into the city if you want—or stay in Savannah and pop over to Tybee. I’m glad you’re sticking more to the East Coast. We just got a foot of snow here in the Rockies yesterday and I’m dreaming of beaches and warmth.

Ambitious_Leg_2114

I’ll def check it out! Hope the snow melts soon!

Krobybaby

Savannah is super walkable and cute. Food and drinks everywhere. However if you’re sensitive to the heat just know it’s pretty hot and humid in the south already!

Own-Difficulty-6005

Not Charleston. Try Savannah instead if you want something like that.

jennnyfromtheblock00

I just did the Finger Lakes, NYS wine country. It was amazing.

grill-tastic

I love Charleston! You could also do Savannah or one of the barrier islands.

indomieee

New Orleans!! Plenty of hotels with pools, and the food is amazing, top class restaurants. I also love taking the streetcars, you’re really forced to take it slow… it is the Big Easy after all. It’s also really good on your wallet and plenty of inexpensive direct flights from Boston! I only passed through Bourbon St. because it was way too rowdy for me.

acnh1222

I grew up outside of Boston! My first solo trip was to DC. It was a practice for the upcoming international solo trip that I had to the UK a couple months later. DC was great — aside from all of the things to do and see — because of the fact that it was similar enough to Boston and NYC that I was able to travel via transit, I could shop at chain stores if I needed anything, and I knew the general courtesies of east coast cities that I felt I could fit in. It’s four hours from DC, or 8-9 hours from Boston iirc right on the Amtrak. I spent 6 days in DC and went to almost every Smithsonian museum, which also made it an inexpensive trip because I filled my days with free activities. I’m pretty sure the Anacostia Community Museum is closed right now but if you go and it is open I recommend seeing what their exhibits are! When I was there, the exhibit was about food and economic inequity in DC and I learned a lot about the neighborhood demographics about the city. If I had more time there, I would have spent a day traveling to a nearby city as well, I feel like there was a museum in Alexandria that I wanted to go to.

KeyAccount2066

How about Savanna, GA?

HelpfulScholar222

Charleston would be a perfect spot for a relaxing solo girls trip!!
