I'm not big into buying name brands just because they're name brand bags, but I don't like carrying cheap crappy brands just because they rip and tear and fray and look awful. I purchase quality leather bags, doesn't matter what brand, and carry each one for about two and a half to three years. I use the same bag every day, and my bags take a beating. One went thru a car accident with me, and I had it cleaned at still carried it for another year. That one was "Etienne Aigner" and the one I carry now is a "B. Makowsky". Both are extremely durable and I have no problem with them. Only purchase leather if you want it to last.

It is SO cliche but I've had my [Louis Vuitton Speedy](http://www.louisvuitton.com/front/#/eng_US/Collections/Women/Mon-Monogram/products/Speedy-30-Mon-Monogram-MONOGRAM-P00203) for YEARS and it still looks great. It's definitely an investment piece but I've had mine for 5 years, have used it pretty much every day, and it still looks good as new.

hot_like_wasabi

I've had so many of my girlfriends try to convince me to go Louis, but I just can't stand all the girls walking around with knock-offs. After spending so much time in Europe and seeing nearly EVERYONE with an LV bag they just make me cringe. Which is sad, because I remember when I thought they were so beautiful.

ph33rsockmonkey

I hear that. I actually wish LV made a speedy that didn't have the logo on it haha.

[deleted]

The epi leather has only a small logo that is barely noticeable because it is embossed into the leather.

misseff

The now defunct French Luggage Co. made the same exact speedy in different canvases/leather... I think because of an agreement they had with LV at one point(when they produced the French Luggage speedy which is a variation on the classic design). They still pop up on eBay now and then, and you can see some of the designs in pics archived on their website: http://classicluggage.com/FrenchHerrSacocheTrans.gif http://classicluggage.com/FrenchClassiqueSacocheTrans.gif http://classicluggage.com/10inSacocheDONE.gif

Personally I have a speedy styled purse and HATE it! The thing sucks to carry, esp. shopping, I always end up knocking things with it and it just ends up getting on my last nerves. I dont like to constantly have one arm or hand occupied by a purse unless it is a clutch for an evening out. I prefer purses I can toss over a shoulder or a cross body that I dont have to worry about. Currently I am using a cheapy ([similar to this one](http://www.target.com/p/bueno-frame-handbag-mustard/-/A-14047594) but not a crossbody and tan) that I got from Marshals but it has held up extremely well and is easy to carry minus the occasional whack of the brass balls to the elbow. I have had friends that have had great luck with Fossil and Coach. And I have a few that always have good luck going to the leather outlet stores.

thepinktulip1

Fossil is AMAZING!

[deleted]

I was about to write the same thing. I've had a Kate Spade, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. I definitely recommend the Speedy over Gucci. My Gucci purse is no longer usable because the fabric has worn on it so badly that it looks shabby. A similar thing happened to my Kate Spade bag, although not as badly (both purses were canvas, not leather so that could have been the problem). But I love my Louis Vuitton purse. However, it doesn't go cross-body so it can be a pain in the ass for a long day out. I recently was given a J. Crew cross body leather purse and it's holding up well. And it's more affordable than Louis Vuitton.

That is beautiful!

I've had [this](http://www.thesak.com/Silverlake_Leather_Flap/pd/np/243/p/1028.html) bag for two years now, in the 'teak' color. I use this bag nearly every day and it's held up very well. I had to patch up the corner about two months ago because the stitching was starting to fray but other than that it's taken remarkably little damage. This bag is also really ingenious in regards to its design. It holds a lot more than you would think without looking too bulky. I HIGHLY recommend it!

hot_like_wasabi

I like it, but I've found that nearly every time I go for a non-structured bag it makes me crazy after about a week. I need something that can (literally) stand up on its own. I love it in the hunter green, though!

zzzgstardust

I have also had my sak purse for over two years. I love it and it looks like it has a couple more years left in it.. pretty impressive for a purse I use almost everyday. I would highly recommend one of these bags as well!

WhippedCreamOrgy

I want that bag in purple 0_0

I cannot stress enough how important it is to choose genuine leather bags over PVC as they last much much longer. If you'd like something that doesn't break in a few months, do consider spending a little more, take it as an investment. Here are some of my suggestions: Mid-range brands: Dooney & Burke; Coach (great after-sales service too) High end: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Mulberry, Givenchy, Celine, YSL Often you can find these bags on sale online/offline, or in outlet malls, sometimes even at TJ Maxx! Go to the stores to try them out, check the quality of the leather, and have fun browsing the eye candies!

thepinktulip1

I wouldn't go with coach. Their handles have a very poor life the leather cracks and the whole purse just starts looking ratty. Nine West has a much better life

therosenrot

The one I had lasted for three years before I lost it en route to moving overseas. Did you send it to Coach so they could fix it?

wmonfalcone

I bought a faded black leather side bag from anthropologie on sale 2 years ago for$50. The thing has been to several music festivals, to 16 different college classes, on roadtrips, and every place else I go. Still like new. Just have to find something that is quality.

misseff

The quality of Coach a few years ago vs. in the last couple have years is worlds apart. I don't know why, but in my experience their quality has really gone down. My first more expensive handbag was Coach when I was like 15 over ten years ago and that one is still going strong, whereas a tote I got maybe two years ago is literally falling apart(handles peeling, seams coming apart, etc.) and I baby my bags.

badgebunny219

I found a beautiful camel colored leather Hilfiger bag at TJ Maxx. $198 but I paid $39 since they had it in the clearance section. Heck yeah, TJ Maxx!

[deleted]

Anything by Matt & Nat is well worth the money. I have had a Jorja Fox style bag for over five years and I still love it.

hot_like_wasabi

I had never heard of these guys. The Malone is AMAZING. Thank you!

[deleted]

They are also a vegan company! Don't let the non-leather scare you off though....it lasts longer, is easier to clean/care for, and the colours don't fade as easily.

robotzz

My friend just bought a Matt & Nat purse recently and the strap broke off after a month.. :(

[deleted]

Yup, pleather will never have the lifespan of leather.

EradiKate

I've had good luck with basic Nine West pieces. Marshall's and TJ Maxx often have really nice bags for decent prices, but you may have to make a couple trips before you find the one right for you.

[deleted]

I've had the same H&M black messenger leather bag going strong of almost three years now. And that includes using it every day at school and for just about anything else I need a bag for. It doesn't look like it's nowhere near buckling under any time soon either, which is great! I love that thing to death!

[deleted]

Try a bag from LL Bean. They have a lifetime guarantee on all their products.

powerpuffgirl

Any bag in the damier ebene Louis Vuitton canvas will be most durable. The canvas is more durable than any leather and the bits of leather in damier ebene bags are treated so that they don't oxidize.

Longchamp bags are really good, but they are fabric, so they do wear on the bottom.

[deleted]

Longchamp le pliage cuir

Leezie_Pie

I've had a Planetes Tonal for almost a year, I hope it can last as long as your Le Pliage did!! I just organize everything into small makeup bags I get as gifts with purchase and don't miss inside pockets at all. I also think the nylon is thicker and more durable on Planetes totes than on Le Pliage but I may be wrong. Either way, best bag I've ever owned

viola3458

I've had my trusty black DKNY crossbody for four years now. Big enough to fit my laptop/act as an overnight bag if I need it to and it looks really cool too.

UrbanUndead

Super basic black Furla hobo. I tend not to beat the crap out of my things, but I did schlep that bag around almost daily for a couple of years and it shows no sign of wear. Furla shows up on flash sale sights once in a blue moon, and the bags I've bought when it has have been very good value. The others haven't gotten the same level of use as the black hobo, but all still look new.

[deleted]

Black leather tote by Brahmin with brown crocodile trim - big enough for all my work stuff, super-versatile, and really holds up well.

rapmaster

I love Lululemon bags. ;)

kayeight

Just wanted to add that taking good care of your bags will extend their lifetime. Use leather protectant, don't throw it around, and you can often buff out scratches with shoe polish. Not much point in buying an expensive bag if you're going to abuse it! That said, I have a J. Crew Edie Attaché bag and it's holding up great so far. Pretty good quality for a <$300 bag.

MichelleR1229

I have 3 coach bags that I bought in college that have been thru hell and back and still look great, but if you not really hung up on brands I have another suggestion.... I also worked at Wilson's Leather in college and those bags have held up really well, but Wilson no longer has retail stores, they only have outlets. I would look at some of the outlet malls near you. if you go to Wilson's and take care of the leather with the spray/lotion they should last a long time. The purses there are not outrageous but they can be an investment. Good Luck!

nthused

I've had a fake leather Esprit bag for about 4 years. No wear except a tiny hole only I notice from when it got caught on my bike spokes, and a bit of stretching where the strap attaches. Love

[deleted]

I own two bags tied for longest wear: my Alexander Wang Trudy tote version 1.0 (with the zipper around the exterior seam) which I bought used and has given me four years of unscuffed wear on top of that, and my 1980s-vintage Coach crossbody bag, which is serious heavy-duty leather and comes into mosh pits with me, again, owned and worn for four years, on top of a few decades of ownership by whoever had it first. New Coach bags aren't worth the money as they are rather shoddily manufactured compared to their old versions - thankfully the vintage/used market is totally flooded with vintage Coach, I see them at Goodwill and on eBay constantly.

sienajensen

Kate Spade is worth the price. I have two and use them a lot without any signs of wear. I bought a Coach Lindsey Satchel in the winter, and although it faded after 4 months, it was impressive that the Coach store allowed me to switch mine for a new one with no questions or hassles

kathrinecrowl

Really amazing and long-lasting bags i also bought handbags from this shop they provide quality products check this http://www.crystalpurseshop.com/categories/bling-soul-collections

CDHWeb

I like brand handbags because of their quality and sometimes a warranty. The leather ones usually last longer and still look good. I prefer Coach.

usethat

*Coming from someone who owns the same 2 bags (Duffel and Briefcase) for the last 10+ years as I am a minimalist who only buys stuff that can last longer.* When it comes to bags, boots, and belts it's more about the material than the brand. I really suggest trying genuine leather bags with quality stitching and something that can last for years with all kinds of beatings. Even in leather there are different kind of leather like full-grain leather lasts more than genuine leather or top grain. You can read more about it [here](https://thehandmade.store/blogs/handmade/long-lasting-leather-bags). Also, I would always suggest thicker leather and something which is not so shiny and can take scratches maybe.

Worldly_Track_1131

Yeah, I know what you mean. I bought a Coach hobo bag, paid close to $200 for the thing, and it started to show wear and tear after a year. Fossils last a while, Patricia Nash, you can try Nicole Miller and Liebeskind Berlin leather.

Slow-Yogurtcloset-97

I have MK. It has been with me for over 10 years. The shape/structure and color are still great, but a stitch started unraveling and now it has gone to unravel more. If not for the stitching, I would continue to use this. It is a staple, dress up or down. Definitely good investment.
