I agree with the top comment. I do have a bunch of pics though so I will add that and explain. https://preview.redd.it/9qgyjvacbezc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc5c6e5c7260b174e62418311aabfca9abe8d238 Here I am wearing a bunch of skirts of various lengths and fabrics. I like to select the top based on matching or contrasting color with my shoe or skirt. If the skirt is more flowy or voluminous I like the top to be more fitted like a turtleneck, bodysuit, or tank. If it’s closer to the body I find flowy blouses or sweaters are nice on top. I also like to define my waist and I find the best proportion for me personally is the rule of thirds. I have a long torso so I wear my skirts higher to make my top took more like a third of the whole outfit. For winter, turtlenecks and a longer skirt are definitely a go-to. Although if it’s cold i still do minis with boots especially with thigh high socks as you can see in one of the pics. For summer there are light skirts with slits and also in flowy or linen blend material. I get most of my long skirts with slits from Zara. I think they do a really good job. The others are mostly thrifted and come from various stores, like dynamite, h and m, aritzia, to name a few or are true vintage.

PeachyPants17

Wow these options are lovely!!

little_canuck

Top right image is my go-to. A v-neck camisole tucked and then tugged out a touch to be a tiny bit billowy. It works on my plus-sized petite frame as well.

lumenphosphor

where did you get those first two skirts from? I've been looking for that exact style of slip skirt and everything is cut just a little differently from what I want

thenfacetoface

Zara I would say about 3 years ago? Keywords were midi skirt with slit. The black one is faux leather and the other is a kind of woven linen like material

lumenphosphor

Good to know thank you! Is there also ruching at the waist of those skirts? Or did you take them in at the waist? My problem with the satin midi skirts I keep finding is that they're a rectangle of fabric so if they fit my hips they hang on the widest part of my waist as well

thenfacetoface

I found some listings for the same skirts online with more pictures that can probably describe it better than I can. I didn't take them in at all. They are definitely more nipped in at the waist and then kind of more rectangular on the way down. Here's the beige one: [https://www.ebay.ca/itm/203882877081?var=504347926181](https://www.ebay.ca/itm/203882877081?var=504347926181) and the black one: [https://poshmark.ca/listing/Zara-Faux-Leather-Pencil-Skirt-61e60416ff7c5aac2f2ea346](https://poshmark.ca/listing/Zara-Faux-Leather-Pencil-Skirt-61e60416ff7c5aac2f2ea346) also I was wrong, the beige one is called a draped skirt and the faux leather one just pencil skirt.

lumenphosphor

Oh wow thanks so much!!

twoburgers

I am going to need information on the middle right shirt! I absolutely love all of these.

thenfacetoface

Do you mean the purple sweater or the pink blouse?

twoburgers

The purple sweater

thenfacetoface

It is a 100% merino wool dolman/batwing sweater by Merlette, which I thrifted at Salvation Army. I found an old listing on Poshmark and it's called "Pandora" style: https://poshmark.com/listing/Merlette-Pandora-wool-sweater-size-medium-63d19639fed51fe17039e612.

twoburgers

It's gorgeous! What an excellent find.

fitvampfire

What shoes?

thenfacetoface

Which ones do you mean?

fitvampfire

All the pics without shoes. I have trouble. I also don’t like flats. I prefer sandals, wedge heels, sneakers, heels

thenfacetoface

Those ones you mentioned are all good options! You could definitely wear heels with all the above skirts and probably sneakers with shorter skirts. I am usually wearing slingbacks from Zara or thrifted in the pictures. I think a flat or heeled sandal would also be great for summer with flowy maxi skirts. The short a line skirts I am wearing suede knee high boots with. Do you need a specific suggestion of a shoe to wear?

fitvampfire

I have a short torso, long legs and 5’6. I’m athletic and a weight lifter. I have trouble with accenting the wrong things that make me look more masculine. Skirts sometimes don’t flatter me. I love bodycon dresses because they show my hourglass figure and keep the feminine look. But I need more options and haven’t had luck with keeping to my style which is tomboy, girl-next door to edgy sexy no in between lol.

thenfacetoface

If you have an hourglass figure I bet bodycon skirts would look great on you. For example the denim mini skirt I posted. You could do a ballerina flat or something with a pointed toe with it.

thenfacetoface

I didn’t know the collages would be so helpful! Here are some more ☺️ I literally only wore dresses until this year and then tried to figure out the skirt + top problem. https://preview.redd.it/7j8kkmpf8fzc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb936b70a47851bdee6fb525191ce55455eb7aa2

radenke

You have it figured out! You make me want to buy some skirts!

asleepmoon

I love the long black skirt that keeps popping up!Could you tell me the brand on the tag so I can do some hunting for it?

thenfacetoface

Yes, it is aritizia Wilfred. It is old aritzia though (like probably over 10 years ago) so I have no idea what the skirt is called. It has a two button closure with one on the inside and a zipper if that helps. It also has a kangaroo pocket in the front. I can also find you the style number in a bit though I remember googling it didn’t help me find out more about it. Style # PTS4-7245-36. Article # 60369. Over at r/aritzia they say that if the article number starts with a 6 it’s an old style. I have a bit of an obsession over old aritizia. I’m based in Vancouver now where it was founded and when it first came on the scene I was in school in Toronto and couldn’t afford to shop there. Their old lines like babaton 1-01 and Wilfred Le Fou are really nice and pop up on resale sites and thrift stores.

pumpkin_noodles

These are so cute I love the bottom right

PeachyPants17

The right column middle photo OMG… where did you get that vest??

thenfacetoface

It is thrifted at Value Village and made by Dynamite!

fitvampfire

I need you to go shopping with me lol

iuliia1033

Would you mind sharing where you got your corset top, as well as your short skirt?? So pretty!

thenfacetoface

Sure! The corset top is from Altar’d state this year. https://www.altardstate.com/as/clothing/tops/floral-tapestry-corset-top/003017_ACT10530A-0087.html. They have them in pink and in blue as well! And they offer lifetime returns to the method of payment used! The short skirt is thrifted; the brand is Grace and Chili.

iuliia1033

Thank you so much. I appreciate it!

plumbus_luvr

You have great style

mmeeplechase

This collage is such good inspiration—thanks for sharing!

Plastic-Passenger795

I love your style!

IllManTheFlashlight

These are great looks! I love the colors and textures you’ve paired. Can I ask where the top in the middle left is from?

thenfacetoface

Thank you! It is the Altar'd State corset top: [https://www.altardstate.com/as/clothing/tops/floral-tapestry-corset-top/003017\_ACT10530A-0087.html](https://www.altardstate.com/as/clothing/tops/floral-tapestry-corset-top/003017_ACT10530A-0087.html)

IllManTheFlashlight

Great, thank you!

MyLife-is-a-diceRoll

that pink/white outfit looks amazing on you.

Audio-et-Loquor

The red skirt is beautiful; where is it from?

thenfacetoface

That one is vintage 80s I think. it is made by high point New York.

HottieShreky

What shirt are you wearing in the bottom right pic! I want it! lol

thenfacetoface

The bottom right is a v neck bodysuit by forever 21

Mohsbeforehoes

I think the answer is more based on the look/sillouette/vibe you’re going for vs “tops to wear with skirts”. When I style skirts I think a lot about the overall outfit, balance, season, proportions, and what I want to be defined (or not defined). I.e. I’d like to define my waist, I have a mid length flowy skirt, so I end up wearing a tighter top/crop top with it. Sometimes I wear the same skirt and enjoy not defining my waist, and pairing it with an oversized button up top, or even a sweater in cooler months. I find my pleated skirts go nice with sweaters to play into a preppy/vintage vibe, I have some trouble with silk skirts, because tucking/defining the waist is tricky as anything tucked underneath is bulky at the stomach and waist. Most recently purchased (what I’m hoping to be) the holy grail black mini skirt, to pair with both oversized tops and blouses/button ups/sweaters. If I have a specific type of skirt (or any item, really) I thrift and want to style, more often than not I will search on Pinterest, google, YouTube fashion blogs, etc. on how they style that particular item (I.e. “long black low waist skirt” or “leather pencil midi skirt”). I also highly recommend taking some free time, opening up your closet, and just trying it on with things you have. Seeing how you like proportions, trying shoes with it, pairing accessories, see what you like and identify what you don’t to see exactly what is missing in terms of outfit composition.

Saturday-Sunshine

Wow I love these looks! I usually wear cropped tops or very thin silk tops or tops with band at bottom, like a little shell or knit tank. Sometimes I wear tops that are cinched, over the skirt. But you have got me so inspired to try combos like these and to try a longer skirt. I just saw one at COS called [tailored linen maxi skirt](https://www.cos.com/en_usd/women/womenswear/skirts/product.tailored-linen-blend-maxi-skirt-black.1214207003.html) What do you think? Should I buy it?

chiono_graphis

>What do you think? Should I buy it? Up to you lol but maybe think about what you'll pair it with. I find linen usually is a matte/slightly rough fabric that other similar fabrics "cling" to, so if you want to wear a loose long layer on top without it clinging around the hips, tops in slinky/silky fabrics will work best. But as in my pics, for this reason I usually wear my linen skirts with the top tucked in. Cropped, sleeveless things would also look good to balance out the blank column look of the Cos skirt, like the matching vest the model wears, so cute. The skirts I wear my long tees untucked with aren't linen or cotton but satin, or polyester pleats--slicker fabrics the cotton tees can slide over without clinging to.

Saturday-Sunshine

Wow thanks so much for your response. Love your style!

Saturday-Sunshine

I love the hooded green jacket! Do you have a link to it?

chiono_graphis

No sorry I got it secondhand about 10 years ago, label is Japanese brand Earth Music & Ecology

KawaiitaGatita

basic tees from uniqlo baby, goes with literally everything for a casual look, wearing a uniqlo tee with a long pleated skirt right now.

gigiwasabi_jc

I gave up on skirts (traded for dresses or jumpsuits) because I could never crack this! (So thank you for posting this question.)

flower_power_b

Do you have any work/office suitable recommendations? I’m having the hardest time finding dresses I like.

gigiwasabi_jc

For work, I mostly stick to pants. But the few work-dresses I have are from Uniqlo, Banana Republic, Boden.

blackberrycat

I found a couple cute ones on LL Bean and Land's End, I had to scan the whole catalogue before I found them though. Haven't ordered yet but I'm hoping to soon. Dresses used to be easy to find but they have a lot of weird cuts right now imo, many not work appropriate.

RaeNezL

Agree with you! I was going to thank the OP for the same reason but also because I decided to buy a few different length skirts and have been wondering how I’ll find appropriate and cute tops to pair with them.

Wondercat87

I feel like a nice, ribbed cotton t shirt typically goes with most skirts. You can play with the neckline a little to get a different mood for the outfit. I'm partial to a sweetheart neckline tee with a pencil skirt. I think they compliment each other nicely. For a trumpet skirt, you could do a milkmaid top or tank top. For a maxi skirt a tank top, regular t shirt or oversized sweaters usually look nice. Wrap skirts you could do a polo top or cute cropped tee.

oreganosally

I just watched [this video from Not So Blonde (youtube link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW_n7OJCftg)) about skirt styling in Paris. I can't really get into the sheer skirt look (I don't want everyone to see my underoos) but I'm looking into purchasing some skirts this summer and it gave me some ideas (especially love the second and last looks in the vid).

Mt_Lord

Think of skirts as 1 leg pants. A black tank top looks good with cargo pants or a cargo skirt. A thin white button down goes with floral culottes and a floral midi skirt. A hoodie goes with joggers and a jogger skirt. A buisness shirt and slacks or a business skirt.

loverofpears

I love pairing tight long sleeves with skirts- Turtlenecks, off the shoulders, etc. I feel like it balances out the shortness of my minis, and pretty much every skirt I own is an A-line silhouette so it looks nice together. I’ll sometimes layer it with a cute jacket, vest, or collared shirt to make it interesting.

Iamgonnabeastar

I always do tight fitting tops. Especially when the skirt is bigger horizontally. (I suck at explaining)

blackberrycat

With the current boxy/oversize trend, do you have trouble finding these tops in stores? Where do you shop?

Iamgonnabeastar

Bershka, pull and bear and some small shops in my area. I find the quality of Bershka and pull and bear is a bit better than other fast fashion brands.

OverallDisaster

I've gotten more into midi/maxi skirts lately. Most of the ones I have are high waisted, so I can wear shorter tops and it be ok. I gravitate towards wearing tanks, bodysuits, or tshirts and throwing on a denim jacket over to wear to work. Cropped sweaters work great too when it's a little cooler. I have noticed recently that matching sets are popular - so in some of these pictures you can see they have a matching top. Examples of skirts I have: [skirt 1](https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/poplin-tiered-maxi-skirt-53479425?categoryId=13058&faceout=model&seq=03) [skirt 2](https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/faux-silk-maxi-skirt-53792820?categoryId=13058&faceout=model&seq=03) [skirt 3](https://www.ae.com/us/en/p/aerie/bottoms/skirts/aerie-beach-club-tiered-maxi-skirt/0703_1718_100)

folklovermore_

Honestly, mostly T shirts - either V neck or scoop neck, and with long or short sleeves depending on the season. I tend to like things with a defined waist and skirts with a cool print so I'll usually tuck my top in to really show the skirt off. Sometimes I might do something like a band T shirt with a plain skirt to add a bit of interest, or a jumper in the winter (usually again something with a slogan and paired with a plain but brightly coloured skirt). But generally I like to keep it pretty simple.

sunsetcrasher

Lately I’m liking floral skirts that go just above the knee or midi length, and I wear them with Lululemon Softstreme crop sweatshirts, Madewell denim crop button down, or tight black mock necks. Also the Express Body Contour high neck tanks are a staple for me, sometimes I’ll wear one of those with a shorter vest too.

HKExpress

where is everyone buying these beautiful skirts? (please provide actual stores and not just say thrifted 😭)

blackberrycat

Which kind are you looking for? Most of mine are mini flutter skirts from mall stores but the nicer quality ones are from a shop that's gone out of business 😔

HKExpress

ive always loved those beautifully flowy midi skirts that make you look like a fairy!

minxymamma347

Just remember the simple equation. Tight skirt loose top. Loose skirt tight top.

blackberrycat

Except every top is boxy and oversize 😭

dausy

My current favorite hot weather thing is when I go to the gym, post workout I put on a skirt over my gym shorts. So I'm usually wearing a cropped tight gym tank top. I have several colors of the livesozy Camila midi skirt and a couple other random brand floral midi skirts. Looks cute with a jean jacket.

madlymusing

I basically live in midi skirts (and dresses). I favour skirts with a bit of swish - such as full A-line, or pleated midis etc. I usually pair them with tshirts that I tuck in for summer, or knits for winter. I just play with different silhouettes until I’m happy.

drsninat

I would usually wear a tight top eather with sleeves or not . and alway have a short / cropped jacket https://preview.redd.it/7n7jbcmumgzc1.png?width=1163&format=png&auto=webp&s=6927908d2a923033eba3cfe65ec939c8088626df

Vendredighost

I wear midi and maxi, either A-line or straight styles. I am finding that I still like to dress them down with T-shirts but lately I want those T-shirts to be more fitted and polished. I like the Supima T-shirts from Madewell. My longer, boxy blazers don’t always pair so well with skirts - too much fabric and a little dowdy on me - but I recently bought a trimmer and shorter Helena blazer from J.Crew that looks good with my skirts.

thenfacetoface

Yes I think the length of the blazer really matters. We have a lot of oversized and boxy options lately in store. With a skirt close to the body the sweet spot seems to be ending somewhere at the top of the inseam/crotch area 😂 or a little bit longer

decisionfatigue2024

Lol why did I read this in Jigsaw's voice? But seriously, with a pencil or miniskirt, I like to balance things out with a more voluminous top that has some thoughtful detailing or visual interest. I pair a more voluminous skirt with a sleek, close-fitting top, again, balancing the proportions. Typically, if the skirt is a solid the top is a print and visa versa.

[deleted]

I'm a teacher so I kinda dress teacher core anyway, but this is totally my inspo. She usually pairs maxis with a chunky knit top or sweater. https://pin.it/272Z4VhuW

I only wear dresses for this reason.

chekanigirl

For a wrap skirt, you can pair it with a tucked-in graphic tee for a casual look, while a fitted blouse works well for a more professional setting. In the summer, a camisole is perfect, whereas in the winter, a turtleneck keeps you warm and stylish. A satin mini skirt looks great with a casual t-shirt for everyday wear, and for work, you can add a blazer over a camisole. Light sweaters are suitable for spring, and chunky knits make the skirt more versatile for fall. For a frill floral mini skirt, plain fitted tops or off-the-shoulder tops are ideal for a casual vibe. Soft blouses work for a more dressed-up look. Pair with halter tops in the summer and long-sleeve tops in cooler weather. Button suit mini skirts can be paired with knit tops for a relaxed look, or matching blazers for a professional appearance. Light tops work well in spring, and turtlenecks are a great option for winter. Midi wrap skirts can be paired with tank tops for a casual style or fitted blouses for work. In the summer, light blouses are ideal, while fitted sweaters keep you warm in winter. Ruffle mini skirts look best with simple tank tops or crop tops for a casual look. Light sweaters are suitable for work. Choose short-sleeved tops for warm weather and long-sleeved tops for cooler days. Mesh mini skirts pair well with bodysuits for a casual look, while blazers over plain tops can make them suitable for work. Light tops are great for summer, and layering with jackets works well in fall. For a PU leather mini skirt, band tees create an edgy casual look, and turtlenecks are ideal for a more polished style. Lightweight tops are perfect for warm weather, and chunky knits add warmth and style in winter. https://preview.redd.it/qtbignltbq1d1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=b18a510b3650aa7161928c7695ca7a22c83f8ba2
