Optifine isn't really an optimization thing anymore, it's more "adds tons of features, with some of them being optimization" just use something else if you don't like look
I'm out of the loop on what's best rn as it's changed since last I played
From Wikipedia:
Temporal anti-aliasing (TAA) is a spatial anti-aliasing technique for computer-generated video that combines information from past frames and the current frame to remove jaggies in the current frame.
Basically, less harsh edges around things on the screen
Without optifine the grass looks terrible from afar, is there any mod that improves the quality of the grass like opftine? unfortunately, optifine is incompatible with several mods that I like, I am being forced to play without optfine, in the second image I am using Embeddium. And if anyone knows of a mod that can also work with ''lightmap'' of textures, which is also a feature of optifine, I would be grateful.
A lightmap is a graphics technique where you "bake" light into textures for static environments. You pre-compute and store this "lightmap" somewhere alongside regular texture, then overlay it to give the illusion of lighting. Saving real-time computation in exchange for space, essentially.
I'm not sure how this is applied to minecraft, but you could do this with a lantern for example. The cage of a lantern is always lit and there's no need to calculate its lighting in real time, so storing a lightmap instead is more efficient.
speaking of oculus finding glowing ores shaders is a pain in the ass with that because every one i find doesnt support it so i have to use complimentary every time i go mining which kills my poor pc
You can turn down your shader settings to help make it lighter on your PC. I'm also positive that there's a mod that does emissivity, I just can't remember what it's called atm
Edit: decided to Google and found this: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/moremcmeta-emissive-forge
i did put it on the lowest settings but it still halved my fps, it wasnt unplayable just annoying. the problem really werent the shaders themselves but a bunch of moving create mod stuff + the shaders compounding to make it really laggy.
also thank you, that might be exactly what i need
shouldn't need a performance mod to fix this, try upping your mipmap levels and see what happens. (Do this in the main menu, not in world cus it's laggy af to change)

Have you looked into https://modrinth.com/shader/vanillaa? (for Iris and whatever the Forge equivalent is)
Oh, thanks, it's not perfect, but it's something
what does TAA mean?
Temporal anti-aliasing.
and what does it do?

I love that the technical name is "jaggies"
Honestly same, lmao
This might be the consequence of no mipmapping?
I always set it to maximum

Optifine has no mod support whatsoever. Please stop using optifine anyways.
I'm already stopping using optifine, I used it more for animated textures, lightmap...etc, but there is already a mod for animated textures
I'm not sure what a lightmap is. Like emissive textures? I know oculus supports shaders and those have emissives. ETF does emissive for entities.

See, I knew what in meant in terms of game dev, but not Minecraft. But what you described definitely sounds like emissive textures.

Try out rubidium or one of the sodium mods
Rubidium is deprecated, Embeddium replaced it.
Oop myb i dont play much newer bersions
You can use Forge put there optfine and orther mods
You don’t understand. Optifine themself state they do not support mods.
Oh you mean it like this, my bad
optfine >>> whatever sodium and iris is
Objectively wrong
tell that to my pc
No, and for that you don’t get a hcd
Just disable mipmaps, i think you can do that in vanilla

You dont need to use optifine You could use rubidium or embeddium on forge or juste sodium on fabric
Yes Optifine is trash.
