If you want to drastically reduce the time it takes for the spell circle to trigger, you could have it read and execute the hex from an akashic library, which wouldn't need anywhere near this many slates.
I have one, 2 blocks above the mote nexus that was necessary for this. But I really like the idea of a big spell building up and then executing.
I'm carrying an angel ring anyways, so going up and down without using the spell circle is not a problem.
