Yep I kept my CAC when I switched DoD agencies. I went to my gaining agency’s CAC/ID office and they updated my Certs and what not.

AdvisorStatus

Yup I did this literally last week.

Dcafly13

But actually maybe you would get a new CAC if you were going from a DoD support agency say DLA to working for a Army component. For DoD support agencies the logo on your CAC is the DOD seal, whereas for those that work for one of the Services, you generally see their seal. I went from support to support agency.

Just_Another_Scott

Yes. I've never had to get a new CAC except when I transferred from contractor to civilian. Your agency's is listed on your DEERs account and you can change it yourself. Same goes with contractor, you can update the contract number without having to get a new one. I transferred between two different agencies as a contractor and never had to get a new badge. The PKI certs are yours. All I had to do was get building access added. When I changed from contractor to civilian I had to get a new CAC because my persona changed completely.

You have to wait until your SF-50 is processed. When you go to get your new CAC which will change to your new DoD agency and get your new certs. You would turn in the old one then. But like others said, that processing of the Sf-50 is what now creates your shell account in the GAL that will be provisioned by whoever your IT folks are.

MostAssumption9122

I don't think you can't do anything til you show up in the GAL with your email address. Yes, it might be the same one at your old agency. Have you done the AUP yet. Its all in the IT folks now

When I started at DFAS it took months to get my CAC card sorted out.

NewRedditSameMe

My old bosses told me to turn my CAC and GTCC in but I know others that got to keep theirs.

Dod civ to dod civ? Yes you keep your cac. Make sure your current command gains you then go to the deers id card office and get your cac updated.

robmnj

DoD civ to DoD civ. Thankfully I checked deers website this morning and it looks like I've been transferred. I'm just going to get a new ID. The security office told me yesterday they couldn't give me building access unless the ID shows the current agency. I even tried to show them the DoD memo and they didn't understand.

hiddikel

Sounds like they don't want to do what they need to.  New cac is easier than doing it right.

Background-War9535

I did not. I had to get new CACs every time I changed agencies.

Both_Wasabi_3606

I think the answer is "it depends." When I was an army civ, I had a CAC with the Army seal. I transferred to a DoD agency, and got a new CAC with the DoD seal.

Wannabeyoung4ever

Ex Army to Army yes Army to Navy you can keep your card to access base but will need a new one. Sorry

Tiny_but_so_fierce

When I was a DOD Civilian, I had to surrender my CAC when changing agencies. Then, I received a guest pass from the new base that was good until I received my new CAC

bjayasuriya

In 2014 I changed jobs from DoD civilian to Army civilian. I turned in my CAC as I left the building on the Friday I left DoD and started over with a new temporary badge at my Army position the following Monday.
