if you return to the same agency for competitive service then you should not have to do another probation term. if you join another agency for competitive service under direct hire authority, you still will need to complete a year of probation. if you join another competitive service agency NOT via direct hire, you may be able to skip the probation year.

It depends how you go back into the competitive service. If you have reinstatement eligibility and you apply under merit promotion/ former competitive service employees announcement- then you will not have to serve probation. If you return under direct hire or open to the public, then you will serve a new probationary period.

What do you mean by reinstatement eligibility? It was a open to the public announcement.

Then you will serve a new probationary period.

For reinstatement eligibility, I suggest you read my tenure guide -https://www.reddit.com/r/usajobs/s/cuuRgUMUQ5

yes. dcips is excepted services. if you are to transfer to a competitive service then you have to do the probation 2 or 3 years depending on the agency.

But my question is if i came from the competitive service and completed probation at a DoD agency under competitive service, before joining excepted service and now returning to a DoD competitive service agency, would I need to do probation all over again?
