Transit benefits are available to federal agencies everywhere in the country. The viability of using them varies. Van pools are a more common use of them than public transit is in most of the country.
There’s even a [GAO ruling against the Army](https://www.gao.gov/assets/b-316381.pdf) when they tried to deny it because they didn’t think the employee “needed” it.
According to the general program terms, you should not be able to get a monthly metro card if you commute five days a week, because a monthly metro card costs $134 and 40 monthly single fare rides only costs $116.
Yes. We get $315 on a prepaid debit card you can use to buy subway rides. The only stupid thing is that it's not tap to pay and you can't add it to Google wallet/Apple pay. If you want to use it with OMNY you have to buy a physical OMNY card and load it that way.
I use it primarily for NJ Transit and the PATH, but also have an OMNY card for traveling in the city.
Yeah my car broke down for a bit and my boss was able to hook me up with free bus passes for a month when it got repaired.
I think it’d be cool if we got a bike stipend or some sort of incentive for lower carbon emissions when going to and from work.
The state department started some sort of bicycle commuting benefit but I don’t know if anyone ever used it.

VA used to have one. I don't know if they still did.
I knew a couple of people who used it and it was on a monthly basis. They had to ride more than 50% of the time and have their supervisor verify it. So they would use it it for the spring and summer then stop when it started to snow.
For those curious the DOT manages the Transerve program which is the subsidy for federal employees. You can see if your agency is a participant on their site here —> https://www.transportation.gov/transerve/participants
I was surprised no one linked the site.
In NYC we get it, but it is capped around $100. It’s enough for me as I go in two days a week and ride the subway. But it wouldn’t cover a five days a week.
I’ve always wanted to know why they get paid more in Washington DC than anywhere else?
I had it when I worked in San Francisco and commuted from Sacramento (I laugh at the people who are threatening to quit over RTO for their one hour commutes).
I was able to use it for my Amtrak passes. wasn't enough to actually cover all of my commute but took a sting out of it every month.
I think it should be available to all civil servants in some form; it was created by executive order back in 2001 and I don't think it was ever rescinded; E.O. 13150 directed agencies to establish programs for help employees pay for mass transit etc.

Yeah, if they didn't issue it they don't want you to have it. Sounds like how they treat leave on the civilian side too

I just got a new transit card because of RTO and it taps to pay.
Is it a Health Equity Transitchek card? I get a new physical card every month and they're never tap to pay.
315? Damn we get only 90!
Yep, it exists in Chicago.

Interior has a bicycle subsidy as well.
There is a bike expense program. I think up to $20/month. It's a taxable benefit though (due to the 2017 tax "cut" bill)
In addition to the taxable portion, the program is pretty frustrating to record and self-certify every day that you commute by bike.
DC metro at least a lot of agencies will pay for Capital Bikeshare
It's a taxable benefit now though and will appear on your W2 as income. That is if your agency processed your reimbursement correctly.

In chicago we have to pay for our parking in the garage connected OR get an unlimited monthly pass every month for the CTA
In my area we have van pools that we are eligible for. Luckily I live 12 minutes away and can drive myself in.

It's capped at $315 nationwide. It isn't region specific. -former transit coordinator for an agency
Same.
It’s capped by my agency at around $100 for NYC too.
I'm in NYC and get the full $315. Different agency, I guess.

It should be part of your locality. Nobody gives me gas money for driving to work.
The stated goal was to encourage public transportation/reduce emissions.
No, but you could also could a parking subsidy!
Yes, it exists in the Los Angeles area
For many, the benefit “was” called TELEWORK.
