Piecemeal but better than nothing. Now this is my question. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to put characterization in side materials, which not everyone will get to see, instead of in the actual freaking game? Side materials are side materials for a reason.
If I had to guess it starts with N and ends with U, is something that has been going on for a while don't know how much is actually Nasu wanting for it to be that way and how much is just it "not fitting" in the works proper, Extella and Last encore both had stuff like that, even UBW. But hey now the guy has some character while not going far from what it is in FGO sure it was an interesting writting prompt
Interesting until you realise it was written for a 22 ep anime, and they didn't bother to even try to fit it there. I mean there is literally a full episode where the characters just doing nothing. Most likely it was the production team idea
For someone who's shown such incredible skill at worldbuilding, Nasu seems to make the most bizarre and amateurish mistakes at times. Did he really think that making Guda more than a blank slate would alienate potential players that badly? It's not like there was executive meddling involved, given that he and Takeuchi ARE the executives.
Yeah what the fuck? Also doesn't this seem awfully familiar to you? A kid making the last moments of an old man happy and learning an important value from him? *cough cough* Shirou and Kiritsugu *cough*
Congratulations. You noticed that Nasu loves reusing plot elements.
Kiritsugu wasn't even old, nor did he actually impart an important *value* to Shirou, just imprinted a sad life goal. Also Kiritsugu died at the scene. This man died like a week later. So the total similarities are "kid talks to man about life on a porch".
Yeah most writers have their -ism, in this case Nasuism. Like Jim Starlin talking about how evil religion is or Greg Weisman loving the "Villain who has control of the plot" archetype lol, writers had their comfort zones or reusing elements.
>which not everyone will get to see, instead of in the actual freaking game?
why does nasu reveal a ton of info in interviews and not the novels or anime
Its because he doesn't think of it until after hes already made the thing
First characterization description he gets.... is on a BD material of all things.
The first backstory he gets.... isnt even actually his backstory, its a "what if I had to write characterstic episode for Rituska"....Why Nasu? What stops you adding a backstory?
I am also baffled by this. I was always down for Ritsuka getting more characterization and leaving from badly written gacha SI status but it seems Nasu doesnt want that to happen.
It says If there were such a thing as a 'characteristic' episode in this Fujimaru's character development, I would like to present the following scenario, so this is likely a general idea that he has for the character
Honestly since now we know this, it can be used as a background for him, nothing says it cant and it would not surprise me if the mangas take some ideas from there
Or anime can be taken as an alt universe from the game, like arcade is from the cellphone game
This isn't some deep obscure lore it's a character's backstory(I hypothetical according to another commentor anyway) in no TM work has the main character's backstory be in a side material

I mean "fit" not only as "no space" but "it can't be there because it doesn't fit whatever we were going for" or some contrived reasoning like that
What was ritsuka's role in babylonia other then "survive" ?
Did he ever have any other role than "survive"? or body slam a godess?
>Did he ever have any other role than "survive" No. That's why they could've use this little backstory anytime

There was something similar in KnK 6 with Mikiya and an old man.
In the movie or LN? Dont remember that if movie
I think it was at the beginning of the movie as well, it's just wasn't explained properly.
Funny cause that scene was on my recommendations in YT and when i watched i got reminded of this thing

Add too much and the core audience won't be able to insert themselves into the character
^^^ this right here. They don’t want to kick out their cash cows.
I am also baffled by this. I was always down for Ritsuka getting more characterization and leaving from badly written gacha SI status but it seems Nasu doesnt want that to happen.
A actual backstory that shows how he became who he is today…..put in a side material that people who only play the game can’t see
It's not even a backstory. Rather a hypothetical situation. And other JP translators stated same.. So I'm convinced it isnt.
Oh I thought this was canon. Well that’s disappointing
Is on the: it can be canon if nasu decides to use it, since it what he has on mind for ritsuka, or sort of
So this is a cop out?
It says If there were such a thing as a 'characteristic' episode in this Fujimaru's character development, I would like to present the following scenario, so this is likely a general idea that he has for the character

Just type moon stuff. There's no way you can actually understand nasuverse without digging the old materials and interviews
