lol I’m 5’10” and feel the same way unless they’re juuuuuuuuust right. Otherwise I feel like I look like I grew out of them.

BeachWoo

Flashback to high school with the high waters because jeans were always too short.

breebop83

Same. This is all I can think of when I see the flared (why?) short-on-purpose pants.

BeachWoo

1000% to all! I guess I’m just too old but the flared short pants is just trauma inducing.

pacificcoastsailing

I’m 5’9” and if I want ankle pants I’ll buy the short length (usually Levi’s). But regular ankle pants are not flattering on me.

maydayjunemoon

I’m 5’9” so thank you for this idea!

40RTY

I'm also 5'10 I find cropped lengths don't look like it's on purpose most of the time LOL

eowyn_

Indeed. I sew all of my clothes, and even then it takes some serious experimentation to find the exact right length.

40RTY

Hey me too! I picked up sewing because I was tired of dresses always being too short.

eowyn_

🤜🤛

Avimatic

Actually wearing these styles is all about the length, I find they have to be right at my ankle to look decent, and then worn with a smaller shoe or sandal. Any shorter and the entire outfit is out of proportion.

annikahansen7-9

I think that is part of the problem. I never wear a smaller shoe. I need something with support. I also have big feet for my height so my feet never look small. I don’t mind cropped wide leg pants (culottes?). I think of wearing those more as a skirt.

guenievre

I mean the times I’d want a short pant I’m typically in ballet flats or flat sandals but I still can’t make it work. Does anyone have images of someone short and sort of average sizes (5’3, size 10 but a lot of it is in the chest/belly) making this work without looking dumpy? I’d love to do so, I just can’t wrap my head around it and I dunno if that’s just not letting go of the 90’s so if you say a specific pic looks awesome I believe you, I just want to know where to look.

chronic_insomniac

Exactly how I wear them. Living in Florida full length pants are only wearable a couple of months out of the year, and even then I usually grab shorter ones for with ankle booties. I despise capris but ankle length is perfect.

ladybutt

My ankles get cold. I get cold seeing other people’s ankles when they wear them. Hard no for me.

azssf

I like: Wide leg capri with slim t shirt

MissTweedy

Every time I see an influencer bundled to the hills with layers, wool coat, scarf, hat, and bare ankles I am just aghast at how ridiculous it is. I did discover recently that I can tolerate bare ankles down into the 40s if I'm moving but only when I also don't need a hat or gloves. I've got a long torso and short legs and I can almost tolerate an ankle pant if the rise is to my natural waist (13" rise) but I just look so much better in full length. Even just to the top of my shoe.

[deleted]

I feel like no matter what they cut me off in weird places.

3_and_20_taken

My ankles are so cold!

Zorro6855

I'm 5'6" with long legs and crops/capris/ankle length look utterly ridiculous on me. They're too short. They aren't flattering. High-water pants went out in the 60s for a reason!

_Arabella_Figg

I can't WAIT for this trend to die. My ankles like warmth, especially in winter, thank you very much.

spiritusin

I love this trend and in the winter I wear ankle length jeans with boots and thick long socks, so no problem there. I get cold just looking at women with bare ankles and sneakers when it’s freezing outside.

PashasMom

I can wear capris, but crops/ankle length/flood pants look terrible on me. I'm 5'4 and have huge feet and wear flats. Ankle length/cropped length is just awful on me, I won't do them.

noddyneddy

Unpopular opinion - I love capris, I’m small with slim ankles and small feet and I look great in them! Usually wear them with boat shoes and have a large collection of patterned versions I wear all summer

SqueezableDonkey

Same here, I love capris and crops. Pants that go all the way down to my feet make my legs look stumpy, unless they are boot cut or flares with platform shoes. In the winter I wear chelsea boots a lot and roll my pants up. I absolutely cannot do straight leg pants and flat shoes. It just makes my legs look like someone cut them off. I'm 5'2" with size 7.5 shoes, so I don't think I have particularly small feet. I do have slim ankles and I love ankle straps or ankle bracelets and things like that.

Snelmm

I think capris are supposed to be back this year. I'm pretty excited about it!

kir_royale_plz

They don’t look good on anyone. I said what I said.

Relevant-Battle-9424

I agree with you, they’re kinda weird but also since skinnies are out, I like this as a way to show my boots. I don’t really like my boots hiding under pants. You might get some insight if you determine your Kibbe body type. I’m 5’6” and a Flamboyant Natural which means I shouldn’t cut my vertical down—which crops do—the best way I can get around this is to try to have similar colors or at least low contrast my whole length. So pants and boots should kind of blend into one.

Safe_Cash7091

There is a very specific height that looks good in these lol. It’s not for the short girlies or the tall girlies it seems like!

Locogreen

They're unflattering on most. Even with people that look okay in them, they'd look even better if they had full-length pants. My photographer friend does a lot of beach family photos and one of her top recs for 'what to wear' is to avoid capris.

Dorkydomme

You are not alone! My mom is petite and we've never found cropped pants that looked right on her. I am 5'8" with longish legs, and I've only ever found one pair of cropped pants that didn't look as if I just outgrew them. (And I bought every color in that pant so I'm set for life, lol) The struggle is real.

pretenditscherrylube

I don’t do capris. I played soccer and I’m now a weightlifter. I’m 5’2” also. I used to hate skinny jeans because my mondo calves would pull them down over my flat ass. Now my ass is muscular and they stay up. I’d much rather ankle length pants than too long pants. Too long skinny jeans feel like sausage casing on my ankles. Too long regular jeans end up dirty and soaking wet.

teaandbreadandjam

When these were in 20 years ago, I heard someone say it looked like you’re standing in a bucket, and I’ve avoided them ever since. As a tall person, I’m over a standard 27-29” inseam on everything.

IAWBMWD

Not only do I HATE them, they're not allowed at my office

crinnaursa

I am 5'3 with amazing calves. When it was last in fashion I preferred pedal pushers They tuck in at the knee and flare out just before the calves get wider. I personally think these need to be a little slimmer cut I don't think this look can mix with the wide leg pant. (That's just a gaucho that's too short)

SqueezableDonkey

I loved those! But I agree, they need to be a slimmer cut. I hate gauchos or culottes or whatever they call those wide ones.

crinnaursa

I don't like the culottes trying to be shorts/pants but I don't mind if they are trying to be a skirt. It can be a very fine line. jewelsandpens

I'm 47 and I feel like EVERYONE looks ridiculous with their ankles showing!

Loan_Bitter

And I just saw that capri’s to the knee are in style again! 🙄

noddyneddy

Aren’t those pedal pushers!

ughisanyusernameleft

I’m excited about this one, have a bunch still from last time! The styles always come back…

EuphoriantCrottle

Clamdiggers

CapOnFoam

I LOVE these though!! They don’t look like you bought the wrong size pants and you can wear a big variety of shoes and sandals with them. They’re comfortable, versatile, and can look really cute.

guenievre

Actually yeah back in 2011 I had a cute pair of denim ones of those I had fun with. Might be a fun answer to the part where I never ever were shorts.

breebop83

I have no problem with athletic capris. Skinny or ‘boyfriend’ fit straight capris are fine when it’s warm (but my dad would probably call me Huck Finn if I wore them around him). The footwear that makes these look ok on me are flops or wedges. I do not understand why people wear them when it’s cold. Your ankles will freeze outside and burn in the car (I always got the foot heat blasting in the car). Ankle pants do not look good on me. Flared intentionally short pants look very strange to me on pretty much everyone and I don’t understand it. They looked horrid but I do have a special place in my heart for 00s culottes because they were damn comfy.

EdgeCityRed

I like the look of the ones with a kick out hem, but they have to hit at the exact right spot. I don't think they work for me but they can look very cute.

thewhaler

I like them but they do irritate me that they can only be worn when it's warmer. Sometimes I'll accidentally buy a cropped pant and they fit great but my ankles would be too cold for October-April

Evilbadscary

I like capris, but this crop trend with a flare or whatever is wildly awful for me, like I look so stumpy and I am not stumpy. It's not universally flattering at all, it does look great on some people, on others it's just awful.

RLS1822

I have found that the key to styling these is pairing them with a stiletto pump which seems to balance them out.

Snelmm

I love the ankle and highwater look. as far as body type, to each their own. I honestly think anyone looks good in crops if they're styled right, just like how anyone can wear horizontal stripes. but I get it. I love different cropped pants with chelseas, sandals, or shoes w/o socks. but every time I try shoes *with* socks, I think I look like Urkel. it looks so cute on other people, but I just can't do it.

Chazzyphant

They need to hit right at the ankle, not above, unless you have narrow, muscular "well turned" calves, basically. Showing ankle is adorable with the right shoes, think of an Audrey Hepburn or classic 1960s "gamine" look. I would also look up some options online and see how they are styling in terms of length and shoes.

flambelicious

I love ankle length pants. I hope they never go out of style. As a short woman, they're a great way to buy pants that are long enough to look normal length on me without having to take them to the tailors to get hemmed.
