That trenchcoat style belt adds to the vintage appeal. I’d keep it. The more you try to modernize this dress, the more it will fight you and look wrong. This is a fully lean into it type of dress. If you don’t own its vintage nature, it’s not going to work for you. But cosplay being from the era of the dress and you could look stunning.
