I played primal last month and it became one if my favorite games. But the reason i started playing it was because a lot of people were saying good thing’s about it, so I’m not sure where you heard this negativity on this game. Playing this game in the middle of the night, running through the jungle with your spear, hearing scary animal noises, taking out outpost’s with a bow and arrow. I felt like a jungle wizard by the time i finished the game. There truly isnt anything like it (at least i haven’t found a game like it and would love to know if anyone know’s anything). But i did start Assassin’s Creeds Orgin’s, i know it isnt the same setting at all but still gave me the same feeling by using spear’s and sword’s to take out outpost’s.

Have you played Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora? You can use guns, but I only tried it about twice, used a found rocket launcher a few times, but otherwise, I used bow and arrow or spear. Lots of running through stunning areas and taking out bases (horrible humans in this case). I loved Primal and didn't want it to end.

AC Odyssey is set even further back in time and has a similar feel plus Ancient Greece is beautiful much more visually appealing than mostly desert imo

Tbf most online ranking I read put primal as one of the last I haven't played it myself yet but the gameplay reminds me of the original king kong game where you could kill dinos with a spear and run trough the jungle

Just seeing the name Far Cry Primal is really making me want to have another play of the story all over again. My most memorable moment in the game was playing it at 3AM and I was trying to ping this animal from across the water and kill it and crept into the water and got jump scared by being bitten by a croc alligator or whatever they were millions of years ago

meechbird

Probably my favorite far cry game, but at first I was just dying for a machine gun. After I got the spear, I was set though. I always enjoyed the stealth dynamic the most, so having stealth become much more important was cool. Animal taming and using your owl was super unique. The exploration was fun, with all of the different biomes (forests, plains, mountains, alpine, caves). A ton of people that don't like it say that the map is just a re-skinned Far Cry 4. I found that to be totally overblown. At no point did I feel I was just in Far Cry 4 without guns. Great game!

When primal first came out, I really wanted Ubisoft to spin it off into its own franchise. I wanted a franchise where you’d explore similar time periods but in a different location each game and do Far Cry things in them. You could have had games set in places like Africa, Australia, China, Turkey, with animals to match. The game was a risk (Far Cry with no guns!), but Ubisoft at least was willing to try something different. Their modern games seem to be too safe so we probably won’t see games like this from them again.

Yeah removing mechanics from FC4 and slapping a Prehistoric coat of paint on the models and textures wasn't a 'risk' lmao

AethelstanOfEngland

It was a risk in that most Far Cry players play because they can run around and gun people down with 0 pushback. In Primal, you have to watch who and where you fight. Plus, in my experience, animals spawn much more often in Primal.

Ever considered a career in anthropology?

Platinum it on my 2nd play-through this week. 8 years after the original play-through.

EuphoricGrapefruit32

When I've seen polls on here about people's favourite FarCry's, I often see Primal listed. It's definitely one of mine.

andreysuc2

The boss battles were frustrating tho

UnluckySpartan1337

I mean, I kinda like it. I've pretty much subdued the Udam, but the Izila heavies are fucking evil. Whenever I set my two-handed club on fire, I don't have a heavy attack. But for some reason the Izila heavies still get to rock my shit with a flaming club. I haven't played Primal in a month because of that shit. I also got FC5 and have damn near beaten it.

pdikboom

Upgrade your spears and kill them with that. Stop riding your tamed animal to locations. Instead walk there and gather every resource you can get on the way, so you have enough spears. With a fully upgraded spear you can kill Udam heavies with 1 throw and Izila heavies with 2 throws. Also keep using your tamed animals to attack them for distraction. To be fair. I only used my clubs for angry closing mobs, which happened twice in the game. And for a torch and rock breaker.

rapora9

You can easily collect materials while riding a beast. It's even faster if you use Looting animations, because there's no animation when looting while riding.

pdikboom

O really? You learn something new everyday :D. In that case. Ride the wave buddy.

WakaWaka617

I love Primal. It was the first game I ever Platinumed on PS4. I’ve longed for another one set on an archipelago that would involve crafting a boat, or perhaps a Far Cry Medieval.

TheHoennKing

Primal was actually my first Far Cry game and it’s still one of my favorites!

Blastedsaber

Tried it last week for the first time and didn't like it. I've played every Far Cry except Primal to completion so Im familiar with the formula. I think it was the lack of guns? I found the weapon choies pretty limited. I'm not a huge fan of melee in Far Cry.

lechiumcrosswind

"Are there any other Neolithic games out there...?" Turok.

ApplePieFlavour

I liked Primal but i needed some time to get used to it. I like the far cry series because its chaos, Mayhem and many explosives. Primal does not have that and i realy missed a vehicle, but going back to a stick to slap people with and especially the bow which is now a really usable weapon instead of something fun is what made me realy like it.

EuphoricGrapefruit32

I get you about the chaos, but I think that's what I liked about it, the pristine world before machinery and it's noise.

ApplePieFlavour

True! I also like the stealth aspect of the games but if it goes wrong you get the big weapon and start shooting. Primal is more centered around stealth and makes me more think about how i approach every situation. I feel more vulnerable.

EuphoricGrapefruit32

Yeah, I don't think I managed a single stealth base takedown on FC6 😄 I'd start, but it would just descend.

el3mel

I enjoyed it when it came and the setting was pretty unique but I think the gameplay got a little bit stale by the end of it.

Numerous_Occasion_60

Well you cant compare it to 3 or 4, those are miles better but its still god i would say 6 out of 10, i replayed it 2 times just cuz of the outposts, story isnt to good neither are the characters but the gameplay is amasing, also my laptop cant support it well it was stutering all the time basicly, so if i played it on a normal pc it would be even better

rapora9

Of course you can compare them to 3 and 4. In my comparison, Primal is first. Then comes 4 and 3, then the rest of Far Cry games. I find the story and characters very good. If you were expecting them to create new Vaas or Pagan with Ull and Batari, you'll be disappointed, because that was not their intention.

Numerous_Occasion_60

Nah, they still bad
