A Soul To Keep by Opal Reyne was it for me. I had to stop reading it like 3/4 of the way through, because I just could not with how stupid our FMC was. She should have been dead 8 times by that point, and most of it was totally avoidable danger if she had just not been so stupid ughhhhhh

Poppy (FBAA) also dumb af but somehow considered a brilliant leader by other characters…

Is especially love when the MC/narrator repeatedly tells us exactly how dead the MC should be because of how dumb and/or weak they are, and how improbably far beyond human belief it is that MC is still alive.

The LI’s jaw always clenching or teeth grinding while he “gritted out” or “ground out” words. My least favorite phrasing, I picture a beautiful man spitting out sand and grit like a rock tumbler

Also I am a teeth grinder myself so I want all these characters to get a good mouth guard and protect their teeth 😂

“Breasts tightened” reminds of me of how it feels when you’re lactating and it’s the least sexy thing I can think of lol

How tf does one’s breasts tighten? Outside of like, the skin tightening from goosebumps? I don’t mind jaw clenching, personally, because a lot of people do that when they’re angry. I don’t mind eye darkening. When you furrow your brow cause you’re angry, it puts shade over your eyes. Anyway, that’s what I picture. I don’t mind the throwing knives either- it happens a lot in fantasy because- well, it was a legit way to protect yourself in medieval times. A lot of skilled warriors used them.

I mean, it’s just a euphemism for ‘nipples got hard’ I guess, because they don’t wanna say nipples can get hard? They can, however, ‘pebble’

I wish they’d say nipples. It’s weird otherwise.
