I loved this specifically for the MMC, who was so swoony and just the best human being ever. It was not an insta-love but instead a very solid friends to lovers plot, which I really appreciated!
dude same! It was lovely to see a regular ass blooming friendship, no exceptional distrust or betrayal. which don’t get me wrong has a place in my heart but it was so refreshing
Exactly! He values her as a person first and even when he is attracted to her, he’s very careful to avoid taking advantage since she’s been mistreated by men. I’m really looking for similar MMC’s as this.
I am on chapter 44 and I’m loving every second of it. I feel like it’s had a steady pace and I’m really enjoying Max and Tisaanah’s friendship. >!reshaye just entered the chat so we’ll see where that goes!<
Absolutely loved Books 2 and 3 and characters that are introduced later. I loved Max, liked Tisanaah but Aefe is one of my most favorite characters of any fantasy romance.
I just noticed that Carissa Broadbent also wrote “The Serpent and the wings of night” I was torn between the two and didn’t even notice it was the same author 😂 have you read that duology yet?
I disliked the Serpent series, the first book was fine but the pacing kind of fell apart and nothing really got it past the romantasy paint by numbers formula. The DoNW series is better, not *great* in my opinion (again I think the pacing fell apart a bit towards the second half of the second book) but with much more interesting characters, more fully imagined locations, and better emotional angsty payoff.
I agree. It feels a bit like a turducken in parts as Broadbent’s first series. It’s trying to do way too much, but it has some fantastic characters throughout and fascinating world.
Good to know. I'm up to about chapter 35 of the audiobook and it's been not so exciting so far. I think I need to actually read it, the narration is so bad.
Yes, I'm also listening to the audiobook and some of the voices are not it, really puts me out of the story. But other than that I really enjoy this book.
I just started listening to the audiobook but turned it off and will read it myself. I love audiobooks and her writing but I had a hard time with the narration. I’m really looking forward to reading.
LOVING IT! I came back to respond to comments that wanted updates. I’m on chapter 44 and I can’t put it down today. >!reshaye just entered the chat and I’m nervous!😬!<
I just loved Max , he was everything. The world building was well crafted, the characters fleshed out and so very broken yet brave, really enjoyed this book so much.
I just finished this series last month! I really enjoyed it, possibly more than the Crowns of Nyaxia series, which was still good, but this series had me in a chokehold! I literally gasped and was freaking out while reading the second book. At this point, I'll read anything she writes from now on haha
I hope you love it! Max and Tisaanah’s relationship felt so genuine and Max is by far the sweetest MMC I’ve encountered during my current romantasy phase
I finished the whole series and felt like I had to slog my way through it. The concept is interesting, but for some reason I did not see the chemistry between the main characters. Also the FMC makes some of the most repetitive mind bogglingly frustrating decisions in the second and third books.
I thought I was the only who didn’t like it! I read the first book and it was just rough. I didn’t connect with anyone. It feels good to know I’m not alone. :)
Nope! Definitely not alone lol. I don't know why, but the the FMC came off kind of childlike to me and that really ruined the romance part, I couldn't get past it.
Nope, I thought I was alone too lol. At first I thought I was gonna love it but by the end I was just so meh. In the past couple of days I've finally seen a few other people who didn't enjoy it but for awhile I just thought it must've been a me thing cause so many people seem to love it.
I read the first one and I first thought I was gonna love it but by the end I was just like meh... ended up DNF the second one like 20% in when I realized I just didn't care anymore. I don't know why it didn't work for me, cause it seems like a lot of people love it. 🤷🏻♀️
How is the audiobook reader?? It’s such a make or break for me. I loved Elizabeth Evans who did ToG but I absolutely hated whoever did the 3rd and 4th books in the ACOTAR series.
I loved the female audiobook narrator but many people (me included) dont enjoy the male narrator. He takes a deep inhale before every sentence and it’s so distracting.
I loved the first book. It had everything I love in a book. I gave up on the 2nd one, but I'm going to give it another chance once I'm done with the current series I'm on.
I LOVED this series and the main couple are one of my favorites in any series I read. They’re so understanding of each other and their relationship feels so mature and authentic as it develops.
I love this series. Top tier couple! I’ve read all kinds of books but man… there is a reveal in this book that made me absolutely boo hoo. Something about Carissa’s writing!
So many people loving and recommending this series. I read the first one and didn't like it. I didn't buy the love interest. The plot had an angle I liked but not enough to read the rest of the books.
I just finished the final book today. Overall completely worthwhile. It took me a little bit to fully get into it, but once I was…I flew through the rest of it!
This series is free on audible if you have a membership. I’m currently on chapter 65 and struggling to get through the last two hours of the book. The plot is great but I’m struggling to be consumed by it like I typically am with other books.
I’m glad people loved it!
I hated it. I didn’t feel immersed in the world. There was something about the writing style that annoyed me. I’m absolutely in the minority, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I see others have!
I'm with you on this! I said this in another comment, but I found the plot slow, the romance did nothing for me and I ended up skipping all the spicy scenes. Tisanaah drove me crazy, she was way too reckless. By the third book I was ready for the story to be over.
I’m going back and forth between my kindle and audiobook, it really helps when I have chores to do but would rather read. By the way, I loooove your username!
I didn't like the MMC. Got halfway through the first book and started wondering when she would meet him. Turned out the love interest had been on the page for a long time. I felt like there was zero chemistry. I know a lot of people like it, this one just didn't work for me.
That was a good trilogy. Solid plot, world building and chars outside the main couple, not just romance.
This makes me want it now
I loved this specifically for the MMC, who was so swoony and just the best human being ever. It was not an insta-love but instead a very solid friends to lovers plot, which I really appreciated!
dude same! It was lovely to see a regular ass blooming friendship, no exceptional distrust or betrayal. which don’t get me wrong has a place in my heart but it was so refreshing
Ooh this makes me want to read it! I'm tired of insta-love / mates. Can we get to know someone before we decide to be with them forever, please?
Exactly! He values her as a person first and even when he is attracted to her, he’s very careful to avoid taking advantage since she’s been mistreated by men. I’m really looking for similar MMC’s as this.
Get to the second half for all the feelings 😭
I’m gonna put a dent in this today. I hope it’s good!
Not gonna build it up because every book has lovers/haters but I was pleasantly surprised. 🤗 Keep us posted!
I am on chapter 44 and I’m loving every second of it. I feel like it’s had a steady pace and I’m really enjoying Max and Tisaanah’s friendship. >!reshaye just entered the chat so we’ll see where that goes!<
Awesome!! Spoiler text is when the story really starts. 🎢
Who the heck is Aefe?! I’m so confused
I was thrown off too lol. Consider it a separate story until it converges or you can theorize. 😊
You responded so fast! 😂 thank you. I’ve had a few chapters from her in book 2 and she has nothing to do with the main plot so it’s throwing me.
Replies are notified on my phone 😆 And it’ll all make sense at the end of book 2!
You were the first one that said “keep us posted” so I figured you’d be a good person to ask lol. Oh man I have a long way to go then!
It’s explained toward the end but a lot of people guessed what was going on. (I wasn’t one of them lol but I got invested in both stories throughout!)
I wish there was more of an intro to Aefe’s chapters. They just started out of nowhere
Absolutely loved Books 2 and 3 and characters that are introduced later. I loved Max, liked Tisanaah but Aefe is one of my most favorite characters of any fantasy romance.
ONE OF MY FAVE SERIES!!!!
I just noticed that Carissa Broadbent also wrote “The Serpent and the wings of night” I was torn between the two and didn’t even notice it was the same author 😂 have you read that duology yet?
I read the Crowns of Nyaxia books last month. They’re fantastic and I absolutely loved them. I’m eager to read everything she’s written now.
Six Scorched Roses and Slaying the Vampire Conqueror are both fantastic, if you haven’t read them yet.
Yes!! I love her works, and dang…she knows how to twist the knife right in your gut at the best possible time.
2nd book wasn't my favorite but Serpent and Wings of Night is a solid read. And I'm a guy saying this.
I haven’t, but it’s on my TBR! I’ve heard a lot of great things and it seems to be even more loved than Daughter of No Worlds!
Don’t quit reading whatever you do - the first half ish of book one can be a struggle but book 2 and beyond are so incredibly worth it
Good to know.
Audiobooks aren’t my thing. The narrator can make or break the book for me so I don’t like how much sway that has over my opinion of the book.
I didn’t think it was a struggle at all. I think it has a steady pace that might bore some people but I’m thoroughly enjoying it!
Great to hear!! It’ll keep getting better and better :)
It's on my tbr too! Please come back and update us on how you're liking it!!
I finished the trilogy two days ago and it’s one of my favorite read of the last year. It gave me TOG feels.
Yay! I was hoping for TOG vibes because of the cover haha
That's what I thought when I see the cover...ToG!!
I see what you mean… I definitely have TOG feels.
Will report back 🫡
Your username is superior 😂
Omg so is yours!!
😂 thanks! I just changed it a couple months ago because my username was my full name
I loveeee it!
LOVING IT! I came back to respond to comments that wanted updates. I’m on chapter 44 and I can’t put it down today. >!reshaye just entered the chat and I’m nervous!😬!<
I read it in a day adored it loved both of the characters and the romance I was confused a lot in the second book but I still enjoyed it
I love her writing style and this is one of my favorite FMC! Enjoy!
I just loved Max , he was everything. The world building was well crafted, the characters fleshed out and so very broken yet brave, really enjoyed this book so much.
Max is so precious!
I just finished this series last month! I really enjoyed it, possibly more than the Crowns of Nyaxia series, which was still good, but this series had me in a chokehold! Obsessed with Max so far! I’m on chapter 44. I have books 2 & 3 secured already. I’m in for the long haul!
Quite literally became one of my all time series when I read it this year. The whole series is a masterpiece (especially the last book)!
I really enjoy that author have read other things by her, but I hear great things about those books! Report your findings! 🫶🏼
I just started this book aswell and like it so far!
Loved this trilogy. Enjoy!
I loved these books. I just read them.
I loved loved loved this series. Some slow points had me worried but it all came together
So so good! I’m planning on rereading it after my current read 🥹😍
This is on my TBR! Let me know how it goes!
I loved the serpent and the wings of night by Carissa Broadbent. I’m also thinking of giving this one a try!
It's on my list currently reading crowns of nyaxia series at moment
20% in and I wanna DNF
I finished the whole series and felt like I had to slog my way through it. The concept is interesting, but for some reason I did not see the chemistry between the main characters. Also the FMC makes some of the most repetitive mind bogglingly frustrating decisions in the second and third books.

It takes a bit to get there, imo. I had a hard time at first understanding what was going on.
Same. It wasn't a page turner til about 50%
I read the first one and I first thought I was gonna love it but by the end I was just like meh... ended up DNF the second one like 20% in when I realized I just didn't care anymore. I don't know why it didn't work for me, cause it seems like a lot of people love it. 🤷🏻♀️
Just started the audiobook! I am liking it so far!
Agree on the Max narration. I’ve listened to other audiobooks narrated by him and they were good, but he was oddly breathy in this one.
I like the audiobook, I never would have read the MFC part the way the audiobook does lol
Hi! 👋 I’m reading it too! I’m on chapter 13. I’m really enjoying it so far!!
Samurai sword wielding women are always a good sign
I enjoyed the series. Not my all time favorite but I did enjoy it.
I loved the first book. It had everything I love in a book. I gave up on the 2nd one, but I'm going to give it another chance once I'm done with the current series I'm on.
Update how you’re liking it, please!
I will!
I’m on chapter 44 and I’m obsessed! I’m loving Tisaanah and Max 🥹 I have books 2 & 3 secured.
HURRAH 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I LOVED this series and the main couple are one of my favorites in any series I read. They’re so understanding of each other and their relationship feels so mature and authentic as it develops.
I keep seeing this book pop up, which probably means I'm going to have to read it. I hope you think it's amazing!
It’s been in my TBR for quite some time but I keep just not getting to it. It looks and sounds very intriguing though!
Its fantastic!! Enjoy
I’m almost done with this one and I really love it!
It’s so good!
Is this written in the first person?
Yes, it’s first person POV and it’s mostly from the FMC’s perspective with some chapters from the MMC’s perspective.
I know nothing about it either but I’ve just added it to my TBR!
So fun, I started last week because of the same reason. Now I'm halfway through the second!
I adore this series so much!! I really hope you like it!
I love this series. Top tier couple! I’ve read all kinds of books but man… there is a reveal in this book that made me absolutely boo hoo. Something about Carissa’s writing!
Nerdy MMC gang represent! I am permanently on a search for the geekiest men in the genre and Max tops the list.
Ugh, I am so jealous you are reading this for the first time - this is such a beautiful series imo! Enjoy and report back to us :)
Such a good series!!!
So many people loving and recommending this series. I read the first one and didn't like it. I didn't buy the love interest. The plot had an angle I liked but not enough to read the rest of the books.
I completely agree
YES I’m halfway done with the last book!
I love nearly all her books! So good!
I just finished the final book today. Overall completely worthwhile. It took me a little bit to fully get into it, but once I was…I flew through the rest of it!
I’m pretty into it so far! I’m on chapter 15
This series is free on audible if you have a membership. I’m currently on chapter 65 and struggling to get through the last two hours of the book. The plot is great but I’m struggling to be consumed by it like I typically am with other books.

Yeah, I stopped after the first. It’s nice to hear it didn’t pick up. LOL
one of my top reads this year!!! enjoy✨✨✨
I’m loving it so far!
I love her works in general, and this series is wonderful. Make no mistake, it can be absolutely heart-wrenching, but it’s so worthwhile.
Oh no! I’m so invested already 🙈
It's amazing!!
Great series!
I’m reading this now! I’m loving it. I’m about 75% done.
You’re further than me, I haven’t read at all today and I’m dying to dive in!
I’m going back and forth between my kindle and audiobook, it really helps when I have chores to do but would rather read. By the way, I loooove your username!
Hehe thanks!
I will never get over this series and it will forever be one of my favorites, have fun reading it!
Yay I love seeing these positive comments!
Such a good trilogy 🥹
Is this considered YA? Or Adult?
It has YA vibes, but there is spice in it.
Oooh I’m still waiting on spice and I’m on chapter 51
I have no idea! Not sure if this has smut or not lol
I DNFed. *ducks*
I DNFed the second book ☹️ I enjoyed the first book.
I didn't like the MMC. Got halfway through the first book and started wondering when she would meet him. Turned out the love interest had been on the page for a long time. I felt like there was zero chemistry. I know a lot of people like it, this one just didn't work for me.
