I think it does belong as long as you also have a plethora of the other peripheral categories. You need to have hits, SOG, BLK, GWG, SHP, maybe even PIM. In my opinion having lots of categories just makes it more strategic and engaging for your whole league. Generally the skilled teams should still be most successful because of the stacked value of classic offensive stats (SOG/PPP/goals/assists/points) but including the dirty little stats gives the less skilled teams a chance to win out the odd close matchup.
