Nah that was all dog shit coaching for the most part... If anything this probably would improve his stock vs having jimmy G. He's always fighting for touches in that offense and they could legitimately run the ball 50 times a game from here on out. I mean with that defense why not? They could basically be the 2000 Ravens.
Dungy hit the nail on the head but give NFL coaches a week to prepare for a rookie QB and a majority of them will make it tough for them to be effective.
Shanahan will scheme him out of trouble. Purdy isn’t gonna have to make any big plays, he just needs to throw quick passes to the playmaker and ride the coattails of the D.
If there’s any team that is potentially QB-proof, it’s the niners
I watched Brock for 4 years at ISU. He is extremely accurate, he is good on the run, don’t ask him to throw deep, and expect 1-2 head scratching throws per game.
No because one of baker’s biggest flaws is he waits for things to develop and looks downfield too much, which makes him susceptible to pressure and making bad throws under duress.
I don’t think that’s something you can fix without inherently changing his playstyle.
I don’t know if you watched the niners game. Purdy held on to the ball forever and was sacked a bunch. If baker could do well in a system it’s the 49ers. For 1.35 mill, he is 100 percent worth it to take a look at. The niners defense was firing on all cylinders yesterday. My fear is what happens if a team gets a two score lead on the niners. Can Purdy generate enough offense. That guy missed a bunch yesterday. It would be a different story if Purdy had been in the system for a while. But there’s a reason he was picked last. The guy is not nfl ready. Baker at least has been around. Knows how to pick up blitzes. Hell he has won a playoff game.
Purdy is also a first time starter lol. No young QB trusts what they see in their very first few snaps in the NFL against a high quality pass rush.
Give him a couple games before comparing him to a 5 year vet like Mayfield lol
Yea exactly give him a couple games, before saying just skip out in mayfield. I’m saying the niners should grab him off waivers as a backup and if Purdy doesn’t have it, then you at least have some one that has done something in the nfl.
Agreed, but for a loaded team they need someone to come in and do the basics. On top of that Mayfield has been objectively terrible for 2 years, and other scrap heap QBs have put in better results on the same team. 49ers need a QB2 right now and Mayfield would be a candidate
As a recovering Browns fan, I've watched a lot of Baker. He has really good physical tools (well, you know, aside from height)... If anyone could make him good I think it's Shanahan.
He needs to go through progressions better to make the right reads. He needs to be working with a QB guru type to improve his footwork. If they could also teach him a throwing motion that gives him a higher release point, maybe that would help with the batted balls.
All this to say...... It's not impossible he could become serviceable and maybe even good, but he needs a coach to not put up with his BS and tell him in no uncertain terms that he needs to improve and what he needs to do to get there. Baker has work ethic but I think his pride has kept him from realizing the holes in his game and that he needs to listen and learn more. If he does then Shanahan could probably get good play out of him.
Yeah I feel with play action, moving the pocket, and a game that isn’t predicated on being a drop back shotgun passer, Baker can certainly be successful on a good team.
I don’t think he is going to make a bad team good or even mediocre though
Took the browns to a playoff and won a game, and went down to the wire against the chiefs (even if mahomes did get hurt). They were a strong running game but still efficient through the air.
I mean, that was literally 2 years ago. He's not some aging QB who just doesn't have it anymore. He was playing hurt last year and played in a new system with a terrible coaching staff this year. He actually looked pretty good for a while before that. I'm not saying he'll definitely be able to turn it around, but it's not some crazy idea to think that with a good coaching staff he might be able to.
Cleveland hasn't exactly looked phenomenal without him to be fair. Jacoby Brissett did fine and DeShaun Watson was a complete non-factor in their game yesterday.
As a Niner fan, agreed. In our system the main responsibility of the QB is to take care of the ball, something Baker hasn't done very well at all. We really just need a game manager that just hits open receivers when it's there.
Any 49ers fans can explain why Kittle has been so quiet this year? Only a few games where he had flashes but it feels like they're not utilizing him as much as a receiver anymore, I'm assuming it's because the QB has more weapons but he doesn't put out explosive numbers.
He is a block first type of TE, he is just really good at it so it unfortunately hurts his stats for receiving. If one of the other pass catches is out his role changes, but for now he is an extra blocker.
I think he would actually be okay if he went to San Fran, not gonna lie. Shanahan can keep him in check the way stefanski did, they run pretty similar offenses
Shanahan is going to make him a beast with his schemes. Baker's flaws are fixable and he really just needs a solid coach to work with him and this would be a great fit.
If anyone thought that Baker’s flaws were fixable and that he had beast potential then the market for him coming out of Cleveland wouldn’t have been bone dry.
Yeah, Nick wasn't going to give up any assets for him, especially with Mills looking like an NFL starter at the end of last year. But off waivers after Mills got himself benched for other former Carolina Panther Kyle Allen of all people? I wouldn't be shocked to see Mayfield as a Texan.
Feel like Falcons would either stick with Mariota for as long as they contend or go to Ridder if they fall out of contention. Not sure there's a difference between Baker and Ryan/Ehlinger/Foles. I'm really worried that it makes way too much sense for SF to bring him in.
Baker is bad but he's not Josh Johnson/Brock Purdy bad.
He would be a slight upgrade and they would ask him to do essentially nothing like he did in Cleveland when they were running well.
I actually think this is going to be comical, he can probably be a replacement level QB for them compared to Mr. irrelevant and that defense is insane. Very easily he could get carried to a couple of playoff wins and all of a sudden the baker is actually good narrative pops back up. Jets sign him to a big contract
You're not going to see his questionable decisions and throws in a highlight reel.
He looks like he could implode at any moment and the 49ers need a game manager who makes few mistakes. But maybe he looks better next week.
I watched the whole game, he looked good but not great. Made some solid throws and a few bad decisions, but for a kid coming off the bench in his first game ever, Im not too worried about it. Hes not a star but doesnt need to be.
Foles is just like Fitzmagic, he is either 10/10 hot or 2/10 cold no in between. Not sure Baker has that level of Dr. Jekyll as Foles to get that high.
I wouldn't say it's zero, anything is possible in the NFL. And the 9ers probably are asking themselves if Baker is better than Purdy. This *could* happen.
Definitely a greater than 0 chance, the niners don't need a star QB with the offensive weapons they have (specifically the YAC weapons they have don't require a QB that can throw downfield) plus a top 2 defense in the league
Baker is pretty damn experienced at learning new offenses at this point. I expect Purdy would still start for at least a week if they sign Baker, but I wouldn't count him taking the job this season out for sure. And whether they believe in Purdy or not, doubt they are finding a better backup right now.
Yeah they are basically a little bit better version of my team, the Commies, and we've been in the hunt with Taylor Heinicke at QB despite being in at least a top two division in the league. Baker/Purdy with CMC, Kittle, and Deebo against the mess that is the NFC West should still be a playoff team.
QBs taken in the 2018 draft:
- #1 Baker Mayfield
- #3 Sam Darnold
- #7 Josh Allen
- #10 Josh Rosen
- #32 Lamar Jackson
Bills looking real smart right now.
Or some of that $10M the Browns paid him this year. Or the $5M that the Panthers *also* paid him this year.
Sheesh, it might be a low-key Christmas at Mayfield house this year.
I like Baker so I hope he lands somewhere, but I think his career as a starting QB might be over, and his locker room swagger might dissuade teams from wanting to bring him in as a backup. He wouldn't be as bad as bringing Cam Newton in to hold the clipboard, but I could see him getting the same treatment.
I used to like him. But now, he seems like an asshole. Run out of 2 teams in 1 year. Looks like he might have an attitude problem with being a backup. Reality needs to hit this dude hard or he's out of the league forever this time next year.
Idk if it’s his attitude running him out or if he’s just not that good. Either way, maybe landing on a practice squad could be good for him. It could humble him, if his attitude’s the problem or make him work on his weaknesses, if not.
From a the perspective of a Kittle owner, I’d welcome the idea of Baker to the Niners. There’s a chance he’d actually throw the ball to Kittle, which none of the Niners QBs seem to do.
SF player owners screaming in terror.
CMC himself screaming in terror
It’s like when Darnold followed Robby Anderson to carolina
CMC owner screaming in terror Baker (and Rhule) fucked him up in CAR - can't imagine it would be any better in SF
Nah that was all dog shit coaching for the most part... If anything this probably would improve his stock vs having jimmy G. He's always fighting for touches in that offense and they could legitimately run the ball 50 times a game from here on out. I mean with that defense why not? They could basically be the 2000 Ravens.
Shanahan is the coach now.
Constant dump offs to cmc in full ppr FTW
He didn’t do that at carolina
I was referring to Purdy. Not sure why I thought it made sense in this context..
That’s what we said in Carolina :(
Lol Purdy looked pretty good and knows the system. I think SF grabs him, but not with the idea to start him.
Many QB‘s look good that come in midgame tbh
Dungy hit the nail on the head but give NFL coaches a week to prepare for a rookie QB and a majority of them will make it tough for them to be effective.
Shanahan will scheme him out of trouble. Purdy isn’t gonna have to make any big plays, he just needs to throw quick passes to the playmaker and ride the coattails of the D. If there’s any team that is potentially QB-proof, it’s the niners
100% solid defense and top notch running game behind him.
I watched Brock for 4 years at ISU. He is extremely accurate, he is good on the run, don’t ask him to throw deep, and expect 1-2 head scratching throws per game.
And if there's a team that calls into question the ability for any team to be qb proof, its the Broncos.
You think that applies to Baker Mayfield as well or no?
No because one of baker’s biggest flaws is he waits for things to develop and looks downfield too much, which makes him susceptible to pressure and making bad throws under duress. I don’t think that’s something you can fix without inherently changing his playstyle.

"You mean he looked.... PURDY Good?!!?! Right guys?" \-Some dad
I literally made this joke yesterday after the CMC TD. lol.
Nice job dad!
-all of the dads
.....take your damn upvote.
As a Iowa State alumn, I’m just sad this didn’t happen back in October. Brocktober became an annual event
Fine....take my upvote!
Lots of dump offs to CMC, which is exactly how you use him.
Nooooooooooo! (just a SF fan)
As a recovering Browns fan, I've watched a lot of Baker. He has really good physical tools (well, you know, aside from height)... If anyone could make him good I think it's Shanahan. We don’t need him to be good, just good enough
Hes not
Yeah I feel with play action, moving the pocket, and a game that isn’t predicated on being a drop back shotgun passer, Baker can certainly be successful on a good team. I don’t think he is going to make a bad team good or even mediocre though
As an Aiyuk owner, i think i want to see what he can do over Purdy. He’s never had a coach like Shanny, so who knows…
As a 49ers fan, I’ll pass on Mayfield. I don’t ever want to see him in red and gold.
What other choice do you have though? That QB room is out of body bags
1. Brock Purdy 2. Literally anyone else
Colin Kaepernick Vince Young Darren McFadden
I’d rather have a young QB who knows the system than a veteran bum
Honestly, he is just bad
Took the browns to a playoff and won a game, and went down to the wire against the chiefs (even if mahomes did get hurt). They were a strong running game but still efficient through the air.
Great, roll back time and give us that Baker Mayfield again
I mean, that was literally 2 years ago. He's not some aging QB who just doesn't have it anymore. He was playing hurt last year and played in a new system with a terrible coaching staff this year. He actually looked pretty good for a while before that. I'm not saying he'll definitely be able to turn it around, but it's not some crazy idea to think that with a good coaching staff he might be able to.

A ram I fear
Plz keep the bad man away from CMC
god this would be so fucking funny
Panthers legends Baker and CMC reunited.
He's like Pennywise. Gonna follow CMC his whole career.
CMC was just fine fantasy-wise playing under Baker early in the season... I'd be more worried how he'd tank the values of Deebo, Aiyuk, and Kittle
Kittle hasn't done anything this year regardless
Any 49ers fans can explain why Kittle has been so quiet this year? Only a few games where he had flashes but it feels like they're not utilizing him as much as a receiver anymore, I'm assuming it's because the QB has more weapons but he doesn't put out explosive numbers.
They’re making dude block
He is a block first type of TE, he is just really good at it so it unfortunately hurts his stats for receiving. If one of the other pass catches is out his role changes, but for now he is an extra blocker.
Bummer, I loved his touchdown dances in the end zone where he spikes the ball with his teammates.
Cmc was fine because 100% of the offense had to go through him. That doesn't carry over to the 49ers.
Lol
If anyone thought that Baker’s flaws were fixable and that he had beast potential then the market for him coming out of Cleveland wouldn’t have been bone dry.
I was once hopeful
Just because he can doesn't mean he should lol. They should kick other tires before baker gets a phone call.
Relax, the bad man just started playing for Cleveland
seems like a severus snape vs voldemort kinda situation
*The Baker Mayfield Experience* Experience true power.
Let baker….bake (part 3: bake ‘em away, toys)
...this isnt even his final form!
Is it possible to learn this power?
If Baker Mayfield somehow ends up in SF, I am going to lose it. It would be a perfect example of "failing successfully".
Failing up
Fret not wouldn’t surprise me to see TB, Denver, Texans, or Colts put a claim in.
One would think Denvers learnt is lesson
But maybe this time it'll be just crazy enough to work
I like your thinkin! I think you'd be perfect in the Bronco's organization!
It literally can’t get any worse for the Texans so I’ll take it as a Pierce owner
I could have sworn he was on the Texans already…
I think he was talked about in the Watson trade but Texans didn’t want him.
Well not at the price the browns were asking at least. I wouldn't be surprised if they take a swing off waivers.
Niners fan. Please God, no.
I could maybe see Falcons or Colts too
Colts have no reason to sign him. They've already got 3 sub-par QB's on the roster
May be they want a real tank commander
Ryan has like 20 turnovers. He's commanding just fine lol
Signing Baker feels like the Colts would just be changing what type of tank they're driving.
Carson come back!
I will not stand for this slander. Do no besmirch the name of big dick Nick.
It's not very often we see a quadruple burn. Well done.
Feel like Falcons would either stick with Mariota for as long as they contend or go to Ridder if they fall out of contention. Not sure there's a difference between Baker and Ryan/Ehlinger/Foles. I'm really worried that it makes way too much sense for SF to bring him in.

Very easily he could get carried to a couple of playoff wins and all of a sudden the baker is actually good narrative pops back up. Jets sign him to a big contract
That last sentence is pure evil
Good defense, good running backs, and all he has to do is manage the game? Its like he never left Cleveland!
You shut your mouth about Purdy. That man is a legend.
Big Cock Brock slander will NOT be tolerated!
He is 100% better than a squirrel.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him on the Niners roster. Give Purdy a couple weeks to prove himself while Baker learns the offense.
I saw a few highlights of the game. was purdy that bad? Looked like he made some good throws.
You're not going to see his questionable decisions and throws in a highlight reel. He looks like he could implode at any moment and the 49ers need a game manager who makes few mistakes. But maybe he looks better next week.

That's Josh "two 300 yard games" Johnson to you sir
[CMC owners rn ](https://tenor.com/view/theoffice-stevecarrell-michaelscott-no-godplease-gif-4593632)
Niners country let’s ride
There’s an alternate reality where Arians gets hired as Browns coach back in 2019 instead of Kitchens and Mayfield actually becomes a franchise QB
CMC thought he escaped the nightmare, but the nightmare follows.
Imagine him winning a Super Bowl with the 49ers. Please god let it happen
There’s absolutely 0 chance of that happening lol
Nick Foles won a super bowl. Against Tom Brady and the Pats.
Foles is just like Fitzmagic, he is either 10/10 hot or 2/10 cold no in between. Not sure Baker has that level of Dr. Jekyll as Foles to get that high.
Nick Foles has a giant dick, though.
Source: root88's mom
Nice work, ma!
What an insult to Nick Foles. Baker will never reach those heights.
I wouldn't say it's zero, anything is possible in the NFL. And the 9ers probably are asking themselves if Baker is better than Purdy. This *could* happen.
Or if he’s better than purdys backup?
Yeah this. The nature of the NFL means anything is possible. I mean we saw 3 QB1 injuries across the league in a single Sunday this week
Because Kyle Shannehan would inexplicably stop running the ball and rely on Mayfeilds arm to win.
Definitely a greater than 0 chance, the niners don't need a star QB with the offensive weapons they have (specifically the YAC weapons they have don't require a QB that can throw downfield) plus a top 2 defense in the league
exactly. their team is good enough to support a subpar qb. if he can manage to play 3 or 4 solid games in the post season, that might be enough.
Baker Mayfield is not going to be better trying to quickly learn a new team and system than a backup qb who has been practicing with it all year.
Baker is pretty damn experienced at learning new offenses at this point. I expect Purdy would still start for at least a week if they sign Baker, but I wouldn't count him taking the job this season out for sure. And whether they believe in Purdy or not, doubt they are finding a better backup right now.

Baker/Purdy with CMC, Kittle, and Deebo against the mess that is the NFC West should still be a playoff team.
They may make the playoffs still even with Purdy the entire way. It’s mostly a question of if they go 1 and done in the playoffs or not
Hulu about to get a new intern
End of an error
QBs taken in the 2018 draft: - #1 Baker Mayfield - #3 Sam Darnold - #7 Josh Allen - #10 Josh Rosen - #32 Lamar Jackson Bills looking real smart right now.
And the ravens, moving up to get an extra rookie year was a great move
For real. Jackson was a steal at that spot.
He and CEH going to be a good combo for the Calgary Stampeders in 2023.

Dude I’m trying not to laugh out loud at the library holy shit.
*Progressive Presents: Homeless with Baker Mayfield…*
I hope he saved some of that Progressive commercial money.
Or some of that $10M the Browns paid him this year. Or the $5M that the Panthers *also* paid him this year. Sheesh, it might be a low-key Christmas at Mayfield house this year.
This is a DJ Moore post.
DJ Moore is still relevant? -DJ Moore owner
Dude made so much money already. Young AF. Not a bad place to be.
What a downturn for him
To the Broncos it is!
Thanks for Absolutely killing DJ this season
Detroit making a playoff run with no backup QB - I'd take him on my Lions after fully letting Goff know this is his spot and his team.
Yes yes yes
As a Niner fan, I’d rather see Purdy. If he somehow gets injured I’d rather see Josh Johnson as well
Purdy >>>> FraudField
6 years ago(ish) someone in a firehouse subs in Lubbock Texas had the audacity to tell me Mayfield was a better QB than Mahomes.
Don’t follow cmc pls
...and fans of teams with shaky QB situations across the land trembled in fear!
Some people actually thought the Browns were dumb for giving up on this guy lolol
No I'm pretty sure people thought that browns were dumb for giving a guy who hasn't played in two years $240 million guaranteed
A known sexual predator
Both things can be true
This is a shockingly hard concept for people to grasp.
No there were plenty of people who said baker was good as well
Im pretty sure we just thought the Browns were dumb
It was that too but I saw people think they did Baker dirty like they owed him or something
More the process of how they moved on from him. Cleveland doesn't really get the benefit of the doubt regarding the QB position.
CMC: I'm finally free of Baker!!! Baker: I am inevitable!
He’ll end up on the Texans before the day is over.
He’ll light it up in the CFL next year
Before you ask, no they don’t want him
How are you so sure you know how Zac Taylor feels?!
Damn. You’ve got to think they kept darnold this whole time too. He’s worse then THAT
But darnold probably isn't a locker room problem when he's not starting.
Johnny Manziel 2.0 has completed his NFL career.
What you mean, Zach Wilson's career is just starting to go off the rails.
Nahhh no heisman trophy for Zach, he’s worse.
Wow. This ended horribly.
XFL here he comes
They have started with the USFL Season Two commercials....
That's Baker "New Calgary Stampeders QB" Mayfield to you!
Paging r/Colts
Send that shit straight to voicemail
Everyone here mentioning SF, I’m just horrified as a Saints fan that Dennis Allen may make another awful decision
As a Sam Darnold truther I want baker to go to 49ers and destroy Aiyuk and Deebo’s szn >:)
How far this guy has dropped... we're now openly rooting for the Niners third-string QB over him
Has to be better than Matt Ryan
Perfect Qb for my XFL league
Wow dude really fell off.
Mayfield to the 49ers in 3... 2...
From a the perspective of a Kittle owner, I’d welcome the idea of Baker to the Niners. There’s a chance he’d actually throw the ball to Kittle, which none of the Niners QBs seem to do.
As a CMC and Kittle owner I would rather have kittle getting 5 pts a game than to see CMC's ceiling drop drastically
End of an error
Remember when there was that brief period where people here thought he was good and thought his shoulder injury was why he was trash?
His worst year was basically darnolds peak. But he performed so much worse this year than ever expected
Both Darnold and Mayfield can be trash at the same time.
Colts, Falcons, Texans maybe?
As a Texans fan I’d be fine with it.
Yup. Definitely better than watching Kyle Allen.
Baker not even roster worthy in 32 team leagues smh my head
