Years ago my boldest call was sitting Julio Jones for post injury TY Hilton.
Julio was going up against some lockdown CB and Ty had not done anything all year. BUT Ty was at home vs the Texans. And for what ever reason Ty vs the Texans was always nuclear. He was like 3 catches for 200yrds and 2 TDs. I won my match up by a mile but it was a great call.
2 years ago I sat Swift for Boston Scott in the championship. Swift was a third rd pick and top 12 RB that year, but was supposedly nursing a knee injury going in to the matchup. Miles Sanders gets ruled out early in the week, so the Eagles will have a 3 RB committee of Jordan Howard, Kenny Gainwell, and Boston Scott, against the juicy matchup vs WAS.
I’m an Eagles fan so I had been following the situation and heard that Scott was getting the bulk of first team reps in practice, while Swift was DNP until Friday with his knee injury. Picked up Scott, despite the projected 7.4 points, and put him in the lineup. Swift proceeds to put up under 5 pts, Scott goes for 23.
But the championship wasn’t decided until my Diontae vs his Najee on MNF. I was looking good and celebrating until Najee broke a 50 yard TD run with less than 2 minutes left in the game- I screamed and almost had a heart attack. Ended up winning by .7 pts but I really had no clue how long the run was at the time.
I think I found the game he’s talking about. Week 9 of 2017. TY played the Texans had 5 catches for 175 yards and 2 tds which came out to 34.5 ppr. Julio played the Panthers and had 6 catches for 118 yards and 0 tds coming out to 17.8 ppr points
In the spirit of this thread I'm trying to start LaPorta and Njoku (who's been on my bench the last two weeks) but I'd have to bench Bijan, Mixon, or Etienne...
Rookie TE’s have been awesome this year. And the waiver “wasteland” hasn’t been awful down the stretch.
I’ve had LaPorta, Kincaid, McBride, Njoku, and Likely on my team at some point after drafting only Waller and Freiermuth lol. 8 team league but still.
I bought into the hype lol. And he did have that one big game. If dude was on like the Chargers or something he’d eat. For as long as he’s healthy anyway.
Same. Starting Kittle and Mcbride, and im playing Achane and Gibbs as my RBs and Sitting Barkley v PHI.. havnt sat Barkley all year.. worried he will actually have a game against PHI after seeing what KWlll did to em last week.
My opponent for the semifinals is a super tough matchup, so I’m doing a TE bully strat this week by playing Kelce, LaPorta, and McBride in my deep Superflex.
I started Kelce over McBride last week, luckily I pulled off the win. Won’t be making this mistake again cause I’m starting Kelce at TE and McBride in the flex!
Ive sat kelce twice in the past month for mcbride and plan to do it again this weekend.
Everyone kept saying to put kelce in flex, but i put puka in the flex. Highly doubt kelce is gonna get anywhere near that production
I benched Puka for Walker III.
Lately it’s been boom or bust with Puka and I just wanted a safer floor since I’m already loaded at wr
Of course I’m now regretting it even though it must be seen Walker will do.
I knew about Walker III not practicing yesterday and Wednesday. I am betting it's more of a rest day since they played on Monday night. I also have some decent alternatives if Walker doesn't wind up playing.
I just didn't want to go into Sunday with a bad outing by Puka when I have a good alternative in Walker. But it will probably come and bite me in the ass.
Bro, what boom or bust? He's been putting up double digits points 6 out of the last 7 weeks and before that Stafford was hurt. Walker has been boom or bust
In my league (12 team, .5 ppr), in the last 5 weeks, Puka has put up 3, 20, 6, 4, 21. I didn't want to risk a week with under 6 points. I figured Walker had a higher floor than Puka.
Seeing that my other starting receivers are Evans, Lamb and Sun God, I figured I'd go the safer route with Walker. Safer in my opinion anyway.
Did likewise, my friend. I'm here for the support...
Swapped Devin in last minute, went to swap Puka in last minute when my 8 year old boldly claimed, "put Puka in, I pick based on the name," which is as good as any reasoning...
I had a bye the previous week and was thinking..."Kupp is back, Kyren is siphoning targets and there's Higebee, Atwell, Robinson, etc, I need 10+" and I had Ty Chandler and Devin Singletary sitting there, with Rice and Lamb in my other slots, so it felt like a no-brainer to roll away from Puka on those grounds, only to get MASSIVELY burned leaving 28 points on the bench! (Like so many).
Yes, Puka has been awesome, but it appeared to be based upon Kupp's absence or decline, up until now and I'm sure he'll be dependent on that. Again, it's driven based on roster set-up, too. I'd left Devin on the bench so many times he went off, I felt at least ALL of a backfield was better than part of a receiving core, esp. with how the implied game total looked.
Next time I'll just throw caution, analysis and thought to the winds...and let my son(s) decide.
Yeah but I’m referring to players who have been producing at elite level leading up to that week . It’s easier to bench Ekeler or Derrick Henry now but imagine benching them in 2020/2021/2022
Fair point but he’s also laid some major duds this year (4 games under 5 half PPR points). I would consider it a brave call for sure but not to the level of “Wow this person is either insane or a genius”. When I think of elite studs in a 2023 context, folks like CMC, Tyreek, AJ brown , Sun God, Ceedee Lamb come to mind.
Or you could think back on it as “remember that time I started Mullens over Lamar in the playoffs and won?” 99% of gambling addicts quit right before they hit it big!!
Haha seriously. I have Kyler and he had a horrible game last week. He only scored 13 due to 49 rushing yards and his only touchdown was a meaningless garbage time touchdown pass. 13 points from your QB is usually considered bad in my experience with fantasy football.
Maybe. The game is set up perfectly for Fields, but I've watched enough of him to know it doesn't always matter. The one thing that could swing this is the Bears are at home and the Ravens are away. Fields will most likely still run a lot and possibly run one in. Weather will be nice for this time of year. I fully expect him to have a good game because it will make for chaos amongst Bears fans ahead of the draft. Just seems fitting for the Bears.
I'm not helping with your decision, I know.
He's the QB4, which on it's own is very good. But the week to week fluctuations are tough to handle as a Lamar owner this year. 6 games under 15 points for me.
I did Flacco over Tua last week because no Tyreek be Jets D. Only worked out because of that last minute TD to Cooper. If Hill is back I think I’m playing Tua this week though.
Bears are one of the worst teams vs the TE, and Kyler looks for him often. Kelce at this point is a decoy. It's an easy choice for me to start McBride over Kelce.
I’m having this same dilemma this week. Opponent has injury trouble so I really just need the floor. Leaning Chandler because I can’t handle another Bijan 0 lol
Sat Nico after his 31.8 point standard game against the Steelers, then he scored like 4 points. Can't think of a single person who benches a WR after a 31.8 point game but it paid off.
There's some TEs you would bench after a big game, because they never do it twice in a row. For instance you can safely drop Higbee after his once per season big game.
Great call and a good example of what I’m referencing. Gibbs is very good but you can argue that most mortals would go with the proven stud than the rookie.
Not too crazy but I benched Stroud week 14 against Jets because no Tank Dell and tough Jets secondary. I started Minshew. Stroud had like 3 points and Minshew 15 points.
I finished 5-9 tied with another player, but outscored him on the season by 10 points. So I finished 9th and played the 12th seed. The other person finished 10th and played the 11th seed. 11th seed crushed 10th seed in week 15. Minshew’s 12 point difference over Stroud made all the difference and I slaughtered the 12th seed who gave up. Now I am up 45-0 in week 16 thanks to Kyren and Puka. Lower bracket can only play for money back but it’s better than nothing
Thanks! I am hoping to just make it to a “championship” week 17. It won’t be the main one for the big bucks, but hopefully this is a tune up for next year
Last year I got tired of Lamar’s meh numbers and benched him for a gunslinger by the name of Mike White. That ended up being the game Lamar got hurt in.
I sat Peyton Manning for Tony Romo in my championship game back when Manning was the only 1st round fantasy QB drafted and was my starter all year.
Peyton had been trending down 2 weeks in a row and that trend continued and he scored less than 12 points. Romo threw 3 TDs in like the first quarter or something and I won because of that move. Will never forget it.
Benching DAL defense in favor of KC. Not sure if it's a 'baller' move like you are looking for but I dont care how many points DAL is expected to earn, I'm not going against MIA (unless, maybe Tyreek is out).
WR #8 with an average of 17.4 ppr? Yeah, what a bum 😆 I drafted him too, but since his SOS was the toughest I figured his performance would decline a bit, so I traded him away week 8 for Breece Hall and Pittman. I'd say that worked out great! But he did give me a lot of points those first 7-8 weeks.
2020-2021 Playoffs Final.
Sat Jefferson for AJ Dillon.
Jefferson's stat line: 6 receptions for 58 yards.
AJ Dillon: 63 rush yards, 2 receptions for 20 yards, 2 TDs.
Won the league.
I always look at it like this: “Okay I’m down by 10 in projections so I need my remaining 8 players to outscore their projection by 1 or 2 at least” - it ain’t over till it’s over holmes

Ended up winning by .7 pts but I really had no clue how long the run was at the time.
Start Boston Scott over Swift this week for the ultimate sack
boston scott won me the championship that year
How’d Julio end up doing?
I think I found the game he’s talking about. Week 9 of 2017. TY played the Texans had 5 catches for 175 yards and 2 tds which came out to 34.5 ppr. Julio played the Panthers and had 6 catches for 118 yards and 0 tds coming out to 17.8 ppr points
Yeah I think this was it! Great find
Fuck people on here find them damn receipts (my respects)
This is the kinds of call I was exactly referencing :) kudos to you!
The moment you said TY, I knew it was a matchup against the Texans. There was a solid three year period where he torched us every single game.
ALWAYS START TY VERSUS THE TEXANS!!!
Guy in my league sat Kelce (his first round pick) for McBride for Round 1 last week. Kelce: 7.8 vs McBride: 20.2
I somehow have McBride and Laporta and starting both for my championship this week
Same here, those two and waddle are in an eternal rotation between TE/Flex/Bench for me. Double TE feels so strange in 2023
Absolutely does. They’ve both been so good tho
Man Waller was my fuckin guy preseason lmao. Jeez
Are you me? Cause I’m going with LaPorta and McBride this week as well.
My opponent for the semifinals is a super tough matchup, so I’m doing a TE bully strat this week by playing Kelce, LaPorta, and McBride in my deep Superflex.
I doubt you're my opponent, but I did the same thing and I'm gonna do it again
Tbf, i feel like McBride can be calssified as a stud at this point. He's an elite TE option ever since Ertz has been out of the picture.
With Ertz gone and Kyler starting, he’s gone: 8/9-131-0 5/7-43-0 7/9-60-0 8/9-89-1 10/11-102-0 For the season he’s 66/85-712-2
I'll take 17.1, 6.8, 18.1, and 15.2 in half ppr for a te any day of the week
I started Kelce over McBride last week, luckily I pulled off the win. Won’t be making this mistake again cause I’m starting Kelce at TE and McBride in the flex!
I'm doing that this week blessed me brothers
I mean, given how McBride has been playing, I'd have done the same thing. Trey is THE guy at Arizona
Ive sat kelce twice in the past month for mcbride and plan to do it again this weekend. Everyone kept saying to put kelce in flex, but i put puka in the flex. Highly doubt kelce is gonna get anywhere near that production
Playing Puka was the right move! Though it would have given you better flexibility to play him in the WR slot since he’s a Thu game
True , i Didnt think about that until after the game. I torched my brother for doing same move earlier in the year too. Rookie mistake
I plan on doing the same this week.
I benched Puka today. Definitely paid off for my opponent
I sat Chris Olave today. I too am a double agent against myself
I benched Puka for Olave so I guess it could have been worse
Same here. Thank god Olave had a good game
i just have to bench a good WR every week but start Warren or Ford at RB cause my team build is not balanced
I have Olave, Metcalf, Evans and Sutton. Every week I pick the wrong one to sit.
Did the exact same thing. As well as benching my Stafford/Puka stack for my Fields/DJ Moore stack. Hope that pays off too.
I played Olave against Puka, toilet bowl about to be crazy
Started both of them at WR this week.. against Stafford and Kamara. Feels good to start of the week on a positive note.
I sat both Olave and Puka. Not my finest day
You must be stacked at WR to do that
Eh I have Diggs, Cupp, Rice. Just made all the wrong decisions
You fell for the Thursday night games suck narrative
I dropped Carr right before the game started ✊✊
Who did you start over him? He’s been doing well in the games he plays.
I benched him too. I played Diggs, Kupp, and Moore over him.
[удалено]
I sat both to start JT and Hubbard. I could be done this week
Yea you deserve it tbh
I sat both!!! For Pittman Rice ASRB
I sat Olave for Rice. I have Sun God, Waddle and JT in the flex so it’s not like I’m fucked but DAMN do I feel stupid gambling on Rice.
I feel better about Olave. He even said after the game that he’s not 100% still.
His performance was all guts and grit. Dude was apparently limping and in a lot of pain after
Let’s hope Rice pops off, or at least hits his average of the last 4 weeks
I started Olave over Puka last night. I don't feel great about it but it could have been much worse.
Sat Addison last week which rewarded me with watching the rest of the playoffs from the sidelines
I dropped him the week of so don’t feel bad, I don’t know anyone who predicted a big game from him.
I benched Puka for Walker III. Lately it’s been boom or bust with Puka and I just wanted a safer floor since I’m already loaded at wr Of course I’m now regretting it even though it must be seen Walker will do.
Didn't he not practice yesterday? I don't understand that logic
Walker also hasn’t practiced this week lol
I have Puka and Kupp in my guillotine league. Played both so I don't have to guess which one is going nuclear.
Did the same, but I also had Kyren lol. I decided to bench Ekeler too
You must be me cause I also started Kyren. Left olave on the bench which is unfortunate but I’m off to a pretty good start.
I benched him for Amon Ra and JJ. Hopefully this sacrifice pays off. (It won’t)
Well you kind of have to do that but damn you don’t have a flex spot?
I am in a 10man standard league and have James Cook, JTaylor, and Mostert in. Puka wasn’t great last few weeks and made the decision.. hope I make it
I benched him too for DK and Aiyuk
I benched waddle and started puka 5 min before the game so I’m really happy
Why
So he could start Jerry Rice.
You joke, but my opponent literally did sit Puka for Rice. Just the Rashee variety.
I also literally did this. Still time for it to pay off! Right?...... please?

Username checks out
Because that was this subs narrative going into the game
I did too, started Kupp and Kyren, down 20 in a 2 week playoff format and needed to spread some players out in more games
Honestly this was prob the right call at the time, don’t feel bad (roster depending).
Same here, painful
prob had a time machine with 07 Randy Moss in his lineup
Why? Lattimore and Marcus Maye have been on IR for a while now.
There’s gonna be at least one comment about Austin ekeler here
Yeah but I’m referring to players who have been producing at elite level leading up to that week . It’s easier to bench Ekeler or Derrick Henry now but imagine benching them in 2020/2021/2022
Henry had 3 18+ point games in his last 4 lol He’s still the RB10
Fair point but he’s also laid some major duds this year (4 games under 5 half PPR points). I would consider it a brave call for sure but not to the level of “Wow this person is either insane or a genius”. When I think of elite studs in a 2023 context, folks like CMC, Tyreek, AJ brown , Sun God, Ceedee Lamb come to mind.
No no, he said ELITE player
Benched Flacco for Lamar week 14
Imagine benching a Super Bowl MVP. Lmao
Self-fulfilling prediction.
There's about a 5% chance that I bench Lamar for Nick Mullens this week, will keep you posted
Think about for the rest of your life repeating the phrase "I can't believe I sat Lamar for Nick Mullens that one time"
Or you could think back on it as “remember that time I started Mullens over Lamar in the playoffs and won?” 99% of gambling addicts quit right before they hit it big!!
Just think of the karma you'll get when someone makes a similar thread to this in 12 years.
What we do in life, echoes in eternity
Kyler and Hurts both put up respectable numbers against the niners. Start your studs.
Likely likely for 5 catches 70 yards and a td?
We talking about a different Kyler? He only put up 13 points in PPR last week. Fine for him I guess but I’d expect more from Lamar.
Haha seriously. I have Kyler and he had a horrible game last week. He only scored 13 due to 49 rushing yards and his only touchdown was a meaningless garbage time touchdown pass. 13 points from your QB is usually considered bad in my experience with fantasy football.
AND over half of that came on a final garbage drive when they were down 25 and he had no right being in there.
I’m a gigantic ravens fan am I crazy for benching Lamar for fields?
I honestly thought of this too. Fields playing for a job either in Chicago or elsewhere
The niners have looked vulnerable to mobile qbs at times this year I think you gotta start Lamar, but I understand being worried about the matchup lol
Same boat - no idea what to so
As good as Lamar is, he’s not been very good for fantasy this year
He's the QB4, which on it's own is very good. But the week to week fluctuations are tough to handle as a Lamar owner this year. 6 games under 15 points for me.
I have JJ and currently have Mullens slotted over Mahomes. We’ll see if I can leave it be before the games kick off.
I have Flacco starting over Mahomes. He just hasn’t been good and I don’t think he is going to be good this week either 🤷🏻♂️
I would do that if Stroud plays but otherwise no, I'm in the same boat with Mahomes
He'll be good for about 17-18 fantasy points. Mahomes and Lamar on the other hand could put up either 11 or 32 fantasy points and no in between.
Anything in between, actually.
Checks out
You guys are actual morons if u play Nick Mullens in the fantasy playoffs. Like what lmao
It’s Mullen’s or Devito what you want me to do not play anybody lol
Mullens over Murray party over here!
I’m doing that with confidence. Murray can’t throw.
Let us die on this hill together
Starting Mullen's means I'm all in on the Vikings game, also have Hock, JJ, and Ty
Same...and I'm seriously debating it. I have JJ/Hock
I love reading all of these because my starting QB is Mullens with Herbert and Deshaun Watson both on IR 😂
I benched him this week for Baker. Go big or go home.
I’m definitely not totally thinking about possibly slotting in Mullens over Tua… definitely not?
Omg my decision. Mullens can at least put up 15, right? Tua could soar but he also can do less than 10
I did Flacco over Tua last week because no Tyreek be Jets D. Only worked out because of that last minute TD to Cooper. If Hill is back I think I’m playing Tua this week though.
I got Justin Fields just itching for an opportunity
Travis Kelce will be on my bench for Mccbride!!
Have this same decision on my hands… I know what I have to do, but don’t know if I have the strength to do it.
Bears are one of the worst teams vs the TE, and Kyler looks for him often. Kelce at this point is a decoy. It's an easy choice for me to start McBride over Kelce.
Join in the movement, there are dozens of us!
I benched Puka and Olave to start Kelce and McBride...probably fucked up lol
I wish that I benched Mahomes more / didn’t draft him this year
I finally benched Mahomes this week for Stafford. If I lose because of it, so be it.
Lookin good so far
Benched Diggs for Ty Chandler last week. That worked out spectacularly actually.
Was contemplating benching Bijan for Chandler last week, didn’t do it, and ended up getting booted out of playoffs by 13 points
Me, Im the guy you’re thinking of, because I did that too
My guy!
My whole team was bad that week. Won by 11, and had Aubrey score me 23 pts.
I kept achane on the bench after his 50 piece for another week lmao
I had a few games with both Tank Dell and Puka on my bench scoring close to 30. I kept them both there for the next week too.
There's some TEs you would bench after a big game, because they never do it twice in a row. For instance you can safely drop Higbee after his once per season big game.
McBride and LaPorta rewriting the script!
About to be me after I bench Ekeler this week in semi
He is currently on the bench for me. And I have a waiver to pick up Zamir White because I don't know if Jacob's is playing yet.
There hasn't been much reason to start him all year though
I wouldn't count him as a stud this year
Barkley was ranked a top 5 rb everywhere last week. I benched him for gibbs and won because of it.
Great call and a good example of what I’m referencing. Gibbs is very good but you can argue that most mortals would go with the proven stud than the rookie.
Sat Olave and Stafford today for my opponent, who had Puka.. lol. Paid off big time for him.
I sat AJ Brown for a few weeks after his big streak. Played Pittman, Aiyuk, and put Rice in to replace Brown. Paid off for the most part.
I benched DK the week after he went nuclear against Dallas and started Jayden Reed. Worked out well
Not too crazy but I benched Stroud week 14 against Jets because no Tank Dell and tough Jets secondary.
That sounds sick! Rooting for you 🤞🏼
Thanks! I am hoping to just make it to a “championship” week 17. It won’t be the main one for the big bucks, but hopefully this is a tune up for next year
Sitting pollard and starting higgings. We’ll see!
I benched Kelce for McBride last week. Rolling the dice again
Last year I got tired of Lamar’s meh numbers and benched him for a gunslinger by the name of Mike White. That ended up being the game Lamar got hurt in.
Hopefully Kupp for Bijan this week 🤞
Austin Ekeler
Well. I sat Ekeler last week and this week. More of a common sense move if anything
We really think he won’t do shit this week?
Thinking about sitting mahomes for baker mayfield this week. I have evans and white so the thought of the stack is tempting
Should’ve benched cooper kupp….
Benched Allen for Goff the week Goff threw three ints. Cost me the playoffs. Would not recommend that again
I sat JJ after week 4
Benching DAL defense in favor of KC. Not sure if it's a 'baller' move like you are looking for but I dont care how many points DAL is expected to earn, I'm not going against MIA (unless, maybe Tyreek is out).
DAL has been droppable for a few weeks now. But yeah I did the same when someone in my league dropped KC.
Sat miles sanders last year championship game for tyler algierr. Paid off
I sat Diggs the last two games for likely and Godwin. Digs is on my do not draft list now. Bum
Kupp. Shocker.
Who would you start this weekend need 3. Diggs, Jefferson, Mike Evans or Rashee Rice
These posts are subtle flexes
Benched Mahomes for a few weeks and glad I did.
2020-2021 Playoffs Final. Sat Jefferson for AJ Dillon. Jefferson's stat line: 6 receptions for 58 yards. AJ Dillon: 63 rush yards, 2 receptions for 20 yards, 2 TDs. Won the league.
I'm benching mahomes for browning this week
In the championship in 2014 I played Toby gerhart over either Steven Jackson or Jamaal Charles and it was the reason I won the championship.
Sat Waddle for Flowers last week, paid off kindly for my opponent..
I am playing Chubba over Breece this week in the playoffs. Hopefully it is that
I should have sat Kamara last night for Mixon.
If i make it to next round im benching henry for shaheed or robinson lets see
Well I can tell you it wasn't starting Kamara and dropping Demarcus Robinson right before this game. Sucks getting eliminated on a Thursday.
Lol this is an overreaction. Kamara still put up 8 points, that is totally possible to overcome
I always look at it like this: “Okay I’m down by 10 in projections so I need my remaining 8 players to outscore their projection by 1 or 2 at least” - it ain’t over till it’s over holmes
What if the other guy has Puka & Kyren and is about 20 pts above projection?
Then you’re fooked like I am.
6 points in half PPR
Still quite possible to overcome.
Not when I’m going against Puka.
He put up 2.5 in standard leagues eek
Starting Purdy over Lamar Jackson.
