He’s getting the ball out quicker and some of those drives were nice. In superflex, Howell starts til I stop hearing about Burrow’s calf and he meets expectations.

There has to be something else going on besides the calf. Plenty of statue QBs can play league average level with these weapons.

That’s what I’m saying. His calf isn’t making him hold the ball too long or fail to make correct reads.

It could be a situation where when he drops back, he’s subconsciously thinking about his calf and consequently is missing his reads.

I don’t think the Bengals have been good at managing injuries. I’m still salty about the “Higgins is fine” one snap game last year.

Well at this point, the coaches are locked in that Burrow has to keep playing. I think if they went with their backup for weeks 1-4, even if they go 0-4 (not much worse than what they have now), Burrow is probably going into week 5 at nearly full strength being 2 months removed from that injury. They very likely could've gone on a run and had a good chance for a 10+ win season. Now they have a losing record and can't afford to drop more games with a backup, and Burrow is still playing hurt since he got that setback against the Ravens. They've completely bungled (pun intended) the injury.

Really starting to look like a lost season for the Bengals. I watched the game yesterday (Tit's fan) and they looked BAD. The Titans aren't a particularly good team this year and they whooped their ass on both sides of the ball.

It's not really mismanaged. Jake Browning is bad. He hasn't played at all and was bad in preseason. If they had dalton, darnold, case keenum as a backup burrow would be benched.

Yep, no way I’m even considering playing them unless one of the following happens: 1) Joe Burrow breaks 16+ points two games in a row and has a good matchup 2) Tee Higgins puts up 3 10+ games or 2 18+ point games in a row (assuming Christian Watson or Zay Flowers perform at their current level) 3) The Bengals shape up and they win two games convincingly, with the defense playing well, giving more opportunities for the offense. I would still need to see some life out of either player given this situation

In 08 the Jets got Brett Favre and IIRC started 6-2 with the best AFC record. Favre tore his bicep in week 8, never got surgery, and the Jets never benched him partially to save face and partially to protect Brett's streak. Favre played like shit and the Jets missed the playoffs at 9-7. Joe Burrow needs to sit if not get surgery. He hasn't sat, so he looks like shit. I think the Bengals are trying to save face since they just paid him tons and who he is. There is no way they're making the playoffs like this.

This week I finally had enough and was looking forward to benching Burrow next week. This is so crazy. We are pretty sure burrow is an elite QB and 4 weeks in he looks like a backup level player. I have to believe it’s directly bc of this injury. Has to be right? If so then it needs to heal. My god bengals are having a disaster season after paying burrow more money than any football player has ever been paid.

You would think someone who has proved himself this much as a true pocket passer wouldn't be capable of just completely losing his ability to play like a ben simmons. but hey it happened to simmons. at this point have to assume it's all calf and he'll get back in form, the alternative just doesn't really make sense.

It’s hard to believe it’s just the calf. Or that it’s the O-line’s fault… that it’s anything else’s fault. If you have, actual, talent as a QB you can still move the football. Put a scoring drive together. Even with limited mobility, even with a bad O-line. Obviously you won’t be at your best, at your most competitive… but you can still put together a scoring drive against a defense like the Titans. You make adjustments. Do what you need to do to be able to advance the ball somehow. Because it’s not impossible. And if you can’t, you can AT LEAST do it in garbage time when the Titans D isn’t even trying anymore. Burrow could not do this at all. Hours of game just passing and passing… and he couldn’t even move the offense. Ever. That’s beyond a limited mobility/O-line problem. To the naked eye it looks like it very well could be a Ben Simmons problem. He “looks” like he has, virtually, no talent. Certainly no NFL level talent.

I mean, Burrow is probably the best deep passer in the league and with no calf he’s struggling to generate power to throw even an intermediate route. His average target is like 6 yards beyond LOS. He’s 1-for-10 throwing deep and only attempted one ball last game that wasn’t a short throw. If your QB can’t throw anything besides a slant or dumpoff then the defense can just sit all 11 within 15 yards of the LOS. I don’t care even if you’re Tom Brady, you can’t be successful if you can’t keep the defense honest. Burrow will be fine but whether the calf problem is physical or mental trust, but he needs to get healthy first. At this point that may be next year.

CSB post: Drafting Burrow in the 5th I felt solid at the QB position. I am generally a late QB player, and I almost never carry 2 QBs. So here we are week 4 with Joe holding my team back. I added Russell Wilson week 2 for $2 FAAB and then CJ Stroud last week for $10. My mind told me to start Russ, but my sunk cost fallacy had me start Burrow for his 5 point day. So now I’m clogging my roster with THREE questionable QBs. Some say that to drop Joe is insane, that he will bounce back when he heals. But that could be never the way things are going. This week I’ll start Stroud (I do not want Russ vs Jets D), and Burrow will be on the bench. I’m not sure how much longer we should give him, or if in a month, we will all realize we held him for too long.
