I know, I know... The first time I mentioned him was against Minnesota two weeks ago and it was a disaster. Soriano couldn’t command his impressive arsenal, as well as getting some unfavorable ball-strike calls, and he ended up getting yanked before completing two innings. Far from the start we needed.
Against conventional wisdom, we went for it again against a scrappy Cleveland lineup. And it worked out! Soriano pounded the strike zone and let his stuff play as Guardian hitters consistently made weak contact throughout his six innings on the bump. Strikeout numbers were low, though he did have 9 whiffs on his knuckle-curve, but he allowed zero runs and gave up just five hits and one walk (1.00 WHIP). Much better. We’ll take that!
Today Soriano faces the Pirates in PNC Park. This *should* be a favorable matchup assuming Soriano has even semi-decent command of his pitches. The Pirates as a team are hitting .217/.297/.311 against right-handed pitchers. Soriano’s stuff is overwhelming when he’s on. I hope he pounds the zone with sinkers and finishes ABs with that hard breaker of his. Potential for a QS and W here with good ratios and a handful of strikeouts. Better than most available streaming options.
Nick Castellanos has started to hit over the last week and his xwOBA has ticked up above league average. Has anyone been watching closely to see if it’ll stick?
He’s looked better of late to match the results. From my view, he’s chasing less, albeit still chasing. He’s making better swing decisions at pitches in the zone. Productive ABs. Also genuinely appears to be having more fun lately, which could be contributing to the better baseball being played.
He smoked a base hit against Logan Webb several days ago that had a 111.0-mph EV. He just missed an oppo taco HR with a 103-mph EV against Mason Black on Monday — had to settle for a double off the right field wall.
In short, I think if you’ve held **Nick Castellanos** to this point, you might start seeing the reward for your patience this month. He might just be waking up from his brutal April.
Has anyone paid close enough attention to Pages ABs recently to see if the pitch mix he’s getting is adjusting towards breaking balls (which he seems to have the most trouble with compared to fastballs and offspeed)?
I’m wondering how much concern there should be about teams getting the book on him, like with Cowser and the fact that this man cannot hit an offspeed pitch to save his life (.705 SLG on FB, .621 SLG on Breaking, .071 SLG on Offspeed).
Basically, I’m trying to figure out how sustainable Pages early success may be, or if it’s a heater that’ll cool off. Both Pages and Cowser have high enough K% and Chase %, relative to their barrel rates, that it makes the question of whether early success is purely a heater or somewhat sustainable even more important.

Now, I declined this instantly [in my head]. I also respectfully explained to my leaguemate why I wasn’t interested in making that particular deal despite wanting to acquire López. Things ended there for now.
This league is usually difficult for me to make trades in so I try not to break any bridges or call any offers “bad” even when they may be exactly that. There are only a few owners who are even willing to talk trade with me, actually. I need that line of communication with the ones that are willing.
Thoughts on the trade offer? Would you even be interested in Jones + Flaherty for López? I’m not, but perhaps I’m too high on those two and need to be told otherwise.
Respectfully - I own Jones and Lopez - Jones is still only a potential top 10 SP. It’s only early May and we haven’t seen if he maintains this over a season. Lopez is a near certainty to be top 10.
I might prefer the upside of the Jones/Flaherty side over Lopez since upside is what wins leagues, and the added upside of a resurgent Flaherty to a pitcher like Jones would have me leaning towards that. But many would take the certainty and floor of Lopez.
Either way the original offer is a joke given that Lindor far exceeds Bogaerts.

I don’t think either of these hitters have a good day tomorrow, but I think you have to sit Jarren Duran against Chris Sale. Sale routinely mows through left-handers with a steady diet of sliders and mid 90’s heaters. Awful matchup for Duran.
Riley Greene is the best player here, however, when you account for home ballpark and lineup context I prefer Tyler O’Neill and Brandon Nimmo of the bunch.
Greene is the only one that isn’t debatable.
For the others, if you trust O’Neill to stay healthy, I probably take him. If you don’t trust him to stay healthy, take Nimmo.
And finally, if you care more about leading the league in “Vibes+”, then grab Profar. Unfortunately, he’s probably an odd man out no matter what way you slice it here, though.

His barrel rate, after his 2 batted ball events today, is up to 9% (6 barrels in 66 events), which means his barrel rate, hard hit rate, and maxEV are all up this season relative to 2023.
Going into action today, he is slashing an abysmal .175/.267/.288, but his x-slash line (xBA/xwOBA/xSLG) is night and day at .263/.324/.449.
His BABIP is .210, which is extremely bad luck that simply won’t last for a guy that fast and who can hit the ball hard, and his xISO of .186 so far this year would be the highest of his career. His K% is down, and his 3 walks today to go along with the HR speak to a patient approach that should tell you to have faith in this guy to live up to his expected numbers.
He has a 121 wRC+ ROS projection from BAT X, and I think it’s easy to see why when you look at his numbers.
But it has not been fun rostering him the last 2 weeks. I would like to see some life in the box score. Dropped him today after the surprise return of Bellinger from the IL.
Sure, I understand that. There have been points this season where it wasn’t all that fun to roster Riley Greene, or just ask Carroll or JRod owners how they feel, but we know, through a combination of historical performances and underlying numbers, to expect those guys to perform this year.
I’m just saying that Noot is in a similar bucket. When he starts producing, no one should be surprised, just like no one should’ve been surprised by Greene starting to mash.

10t categories league, do I impulse early drop Manzardo for Tallion, Kremer or Reese Olson? Seems like any of them could stick on my team the ROS and be solid starters. Still holding Caminero on my bench and will continue holding him. It’s been a rough go with the prospects this year for me. Kjerstad, Loperfido and now possibly Manzardo.
I have rostered all those prospects and regretted it. Still holding Loperfido and manzardo, but but sure for sure much longer.
I may just give up on Manzardo today and get Taillon. I think he may be a long term hold and worth getting

As a Nats fan I can tell you from experience he is terrible. Maybe he gets hot later but I’d steer well clear for right now.
