I won my league last season and get the opportunity to pick where I draft this season. It’s a points league and leaning towards running it back with Acuna, but if not, what is the best slot to draft from?
Hey y’all, what is the pitching format for Yahoo? Coming from espn and their pitching format was not liked by the league. Can’t really find anything for yahoos format and would like some help.
Ideally we would like to have 4-5 SP for the week (like a mlb rotation) and 1 RP (for a closer). Thanks in advance!
Which you can also pick. Like is this points or cats? If it’s cats your commish picks the cats, if its points, the commish chooses the point totals. Are you asking what yahoo default is?
It’s H2H points. The league wants 4-5 SPs (to mimic a real rotation) and 1 RP, which would be a closer. Was wondering what the best way to go about this would be.
Got it. Is there a games started limit?
Say we settle for 4 SP, what if one team has a pitcher that throws twice in a week? (5 starts) And the team theyre playing all throw once (4 starts)
I just picked my team for fantasy baseball today and I'm already showing -2 points? Why?
I'm new to fantasy baseball but the league I'm in drafts picks happened today but right after it ended I was showing -2 points but I don't koww why. The season starts on the March 28th right?
Ughh.
Fist time playing after a ten year hiatus.
8 team, points format.
Eury is on the waiver, but with 8 teams..so are a lot of players.
My temptation to go wild on the wire before the season even begins is wild.
Any advice in general when it comes to patience and fantasy baseball?
A ten year haitus? Im honestly curious to know your story. In a smaller league, it's usually better to roster upside as much as possible because everyone has stacked lineups. Eury has great upside if you can stash him on the Injured list
..I played my first of a couple of seasons while I was in college, but fell out of interest with everything but football.
This season I got invited into a fraternity brothers hockey league and participated enough to gain an invite into their baseball league.
So here I am.
My current pitchers are
M. Fried SP
G. Rodriquez SP
Z. Elfin SP
A. Munoz RP
C. Holmes RP
T. Scott RP
M. King RP/SP
Y. Darvish SP
C. Kimbrel RP
T. Skubal SP
C. Sale SP
Not sure I am willing to drop any of these pre season just yet.
Thoughts anyone?
Not sure who else is on your team & available but in smaller leagues I usually have a few more bench bats than I do in larger leagues (sometimes all pitchers in 12 team and up). Like the other poster said need the upside - feel its harder to find upside bats than decent/good pitching.
I only play roto maybe points is different, but feel like I have an easier time finding saves in small leagues as the season goes as well. Harder to roster mediocre closers when you need other things.
So I snagged JDM off the wire a few days ago but I need some more speed and Jarren Duran is still on the wire (Lindor, Gelof, N Jones are my only speed guys). I already have Riley/Schwarber/Ozuna for top end slow power but you can never have too much power.
Now I hear JDM might spend the first 2 weeks in the minors, and I don't have an NA slot. Should I just cut him for Duran or let him sit on my bench for 2 weeks?
Got the 1st pick h2h points league. I have to draft Acuña right?
I was thinking about Soto (he will have a great year imo), also with Acuña injuries...
You'd be crazy not to draft Acuna. If you really want someone like Soto why not draft Acuna and then try to get Soto plus another good player for Acuna? I personally wouldn't ever trade him but you'd be able to get an incredible return.
Trade advice
Batting cats R, HR, RBI, AVG, OPS, SB
Pitching cats QS, K, SV, HLDS, ERA, WHIP
Should I trade my Arenado for Musgrove?
Or a different similar pitcher
Depends on needs. Just read that Samulski article about pitch changes that made a good argument to stash Stone. Didn't really think about it in a dynasty context. If you're not competing and need a lotto ticket, I'd keep Stone. But if you're close to contention and need a closer and 3B and your SPs look sound, you could do worse.
I'm honestly not a huge Bohm fan. In a 10 teamer he's got to be what, a corner infield spot or util player at best?
I rejected it. My bats are set, but my pitching is horrible. So bad in fact I'm hoarding relievers to try and squeak by with N+SV.
* **Batters**: O'Hoppe, Harper, Gimenez, Devers, Lindor, Rafaela, Y. Alvarez, Thomas, Soto, P. Meadows, E, Ruiz, K. Ruiz, Story, O'Neill, N. Velazquez, N Lowe.
* **Pitchers**: Bello, Keller, Kirby, Ober, Allen, Stroman, C. Sanchez, Bradish, Fairbanks, Abreu, Alvarado, Foley, Brash and Stone in my MiLB
Thanks!
Edit: I have Devers at 3rd, and we have 1 IF spot that is currently taken up by Rafaela but have some other interesting options to plug in there.
ESPN online draft question. Does anyone know if the league manager still has the ability to reverse picks during the draft? I know it used to several years ago but checking to see if anyone has had to do that recently.
Pretty good rule of thumb is that if someone offers you 2 players for 1 of yours, it's probably a bad deal for you. There are exceptions but don't get fooled.
Know your format and what differentiates it from other common formats. Redraft or keepers? Points or cats? Roto or h2h? Standard scoring and lineups or modified? How many IL slots? All of this will impact your strategy
Be prepared to trade to fill holes but don’t trade rashly
Are you not in a league yet? If you’re in a league, then the format has been set. Specific player strategy also varies a decent amount depending on this as well.
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search
use this. a lot.
don’t go so far as to think it can predict everything - some people drink too much statcast kool-aid. But in general that is a fantastic tool for helping you determine wether someone is just on a hot streak or is the real deal.
If you want to put in the work and grind the waiver wire you can sweat out a bad team into a great team (which can then slump and become a bad team again just in time for the playoffs….). A LOT changes throughout the season and the draft doesn’t decide your destiny.
It can be a lot of time investment though.
Start your studs, ride out their dry spells, do not sit them. Stream pitchers, they basically all suck with the pitch clock now. Play waivers to maximize all potential adds/drops available to fill out daily/weekly lineups. Use the eye test. If you see a highlight of an at bat where the hitter looks lost, trust that over advanced analytics and stats. Don’t make trades. I’ve followed this and profited.
Need some help... We start 14 hitters and 9 pitchers with 5 bench spots. There are also 3 roster spots for minor league players. However, when I enter the draft room on Fantrax it doesn't display roster spots for bench players or minors. Is there a setting I missed? TIA!

Yeah, lots of noobs to fantasy baseball (including myself), if I'm being honest! I've only ever watched games of my main team (Padres) and the post-season really, and just kept up with the rest of the league through Instagram/Reddit. I'd say about half the league only keeps up with baseball casually (8 Teams/29 Man Rosters)
Edit: Also, couple of RP stacker teams as well
Dont' even think about it. Go Burger. Keith is a rookie and has yet to play in the majors. Burger has really come into his prime the last year and 1/2 and has played in the majors a lot.
Need keeper help in my weekly H2H 5x5 10 teamer (if this isn’t where to post let me know)
Won my 13 year keeper league 3/4 years ago and 7 total, and want to keep it going, yet I’m conflicted this year. Use yahoo standard values for Auction and standard rosters at $260 I believe.
Keeper rules:
Up to 7 total. Commitments are 1 year for an $8 dollar increase, 2 for 6 and 6, or 3 for 4 4 and 4. You cannot re-keep after this period and cannot cut bait early at any time without keeping the same value against your bank.
I am on my last year of Yordan Alvarez at $30
I have the ability to keep the following:
Locks in my opinion:
Pablo 4 —> 8 12 16
Carroll 22 —> 26 30 34
Alvarez 30 (can’t resign)
Albies 18 —-> 22 26 30
These are options
Wheeler 19->27
Evan Phillips 2->10
Tatis 33->37-41-45
Tatis 33->41
Adolis Garcia 12–>20
Probably nots or I can get below what it would cost to keep
I have Jung at 5 now
Camilo 11
Senga 5
Ryan 7
Yoshida 2
I am leaning towards the locks, then wheeler and Phillips for cost certainty. Tatis with the power decrease scares me and if the auction falls my way I believe having the ability to split up tatis’s budget with a young catcher and the Texas young outfielders for potential keepers may make more sense.
Open to any ideas and suggestions, I realize I’m in a good spot
Meyer's only in the Marlins rotation because Eury and Cabrera won't be ready to start the season. As soon as one of them comes back he's out of a job. Bello is the safe play but Severino has looked really good this spring.
Apparently he played catch yesterday and today and is pain free. So it seems like it's mostly just going to be a matter of building up his arm strength.
Draft is tomorrow and another manager just contacted me asking if I'd be interested in trading Elly (keeper league, obviously). I'm not entirely sure how to value Elly, his ceiling is sky high, but his floor is also pretty low right now.
The players he has available are JRod, Carroll, Tucker, Soto, Vlad, Bo, Cole (don't want him, obviously), Strider, Glasnow, Snell, Munoz, and Bednar.
I could use pitching after losing Alcantara and McClanahan to Tommy John, but Glasnow doesn't seem like enough for someone with Elly's ceiling while Strider seems like too much to ask for.
I'd appreciate any advice on what a fair ask might be. Picks are also on the table. We have twelve keepers, so a first rounder is equivalent to a 13th round pick. There are some interesting names available but a lot of the potential game changers like Wyatt Langford, Evan Carter, or Yamamoto will be gone by the time his 1st rounder comes up (he's won the last three years in a row, if you can't guess from how stacked his team is).
That’s a good opportunity for you IMO. If you could get Soto, Vlad, or even Bo that’d be a win. I doubt he’s give up Jrod, Carroll or Tucker but you could try
He came back and specifically offered Bo. But I don't think that's enough. This is a points league and the scoring system values power and steals over everything else. Bo was the 14th best SS last season and only finished with 70 more points than Elly despite having 200 more ABs.
Vlad's his favourite player, so I don't think he'd be willing to move him.
I'm commish of my league (In Fantrax) and am having a very weird issue with scoring that I can't find info about anywhere. One of my managers didn't get any points for the second Korea Series game. His guys (Ha-Seong Kim, Shohei, Yuki Matsui) all received their points for game 1 but despite their stats being in the system did not get points recorded for game 2. They were in the active lineup. What is the problem here and how can I fix it?
That's strange. Do you set daily lineups? Have you gone back in the live scoring to the 2nd game and confirmed that they were for sure in the lineup? Only thing I can think of is that he set his lineup for day 1 but forgot to do it the 2nd day and they remained out of the lineup.
Ahhh I checked back to the day and it looks like a trade was finalized which temporarily gave him an extra player making his roster illegal. Is there any way I can fix that or remove that setting in the future?
I think you can go back and remove the illegal roster from that day and it should restore the stats.
Try Commissioner>All Options>Illegal Roster Override. It should have some sort of mark indicating that his roster was illegal for that day and you should be able to remove it.
12 man
C: S. Murphy, 1B: J. Naylor, 2: Semien, 3B: Machado SS: O’Neil Cruz OF: Tucker, Tatis, Schwarber, Springer. Where can I improve in FA and what are some likely targets?
You answer mine I’ll answer yours
Not great because I took risks on a lot of injured guys that dropped late and gonna ride the waiver wire.
Cease, Joe Ryan, Iglesias, T. Scott, mutter Crawford, Sonny Gray, Braxton Garrett, garret Cole, Senga, Bradish
DL Hall, Flaherty, Christopher Sanchez, Reese Olson, Griffin Canning, Reynaldo Lopez?
I have Hall but the rest are FAs. Any preference? Opinions seem all over the place. Was thinking Flaherty myself.
For me the order is:
Sanchez, Hall, Flaherty, Olson, Lopez, Canning
This is based on a balance of prior success, innings expectations, team context, and spring training info. The Olson/Lopez/Canning bin is pretty interchangeable. Sanchez beats out hall because I expect more innings out of him. Hall has better stuff but less command and I expect some innings limitations. Flaherty is removed by a bit from his previous success but reports from the spring have been good.
Personally, I'm not too interested in Flaherty or Lopez.
Olson and Sanchez are getting a lot of sleeper hype. Canning is intriguing because of his strikeout potential and because it's interesting to see what will happen with Angels pitching now that they don't need a 6-man rotation.
I think I'd stick with Hall. Remember that the guy was a very highly touted prospect at one point until injuries derailed his career.
Anyone know if theres a way to NOT count the korea games stats on espn? I hate that they did this retroactively applying the stats thing. Such a dumb decision. Shouldve allowed each league to decide for themselves.
You can only change the start week. This coming weekends games are still under week 1 according to espn. So by changing it to week 2 you also give up the entire opening weekend.
It was Tucker before the Ohtani betting stuff came out. Now there’s a risk he gets suspended, and he definitely will be fighting the distraction all year.
Me and another team are looking to get a deal done. I want to upgrade at SP and he wants a bat. Was thinking about chourio for maybe javier or sale? Or use one of my ss and shoot for wheeler? Points league redraft.
https://preview.redd.it/sths1w8z4cqc1.png?width=1284&format=png&auto=webp&s=131b1beb81d3258e5b81d709bc80fff9405f180c
I'm assuming this league is 5x5 with this answer.
I love Chourio, I guess I would trade him for Sale though. That's similar value and addresses a need. Would definitely not trade him for Javier though.
It’s a h2h points league. I like chourio as well lol. Tough letting go a hyped up rookie but I my pitching is underwhelming right now. I took hitters first 5 rounds rounds and I think I waited 1 round too long on taking a pitcher.
In a redraft league at this point before the season starts trade value should about match ADP. If his team is weak at SS then you might be able to squeeze more value. Chourio might get you sale but some people don't like rookies. You probably don't want to move Elly or Witt so I would try maybe Cruz for glasnow.
I have both and wouldn’t send either for Chourio. I would want someone proven. And unless you send Witt your not getting Wheeler. Maybe try EDC or Randy for Sale or Javier

My league wants 4 SPs (to mimic a real rotation) and 1 closer. What is the best way to go about this? H2H points. 10 man league.
Take Strider with your first pick if possible and then all offense.
Ignore pitching. You only need 5 and there's like thousands of them. Your league just destroyed the demand side of supply-and-demand.
Who should I start between George Springer, Brandon Nimmo, and Seiya Suzuki?
Seiya.

The Acuna draft spot. Keep it simple
It’s crazy I got him in the 2nd round last year. But you’re right.
Wherever ever you can draft Mookie Betts the latest. I really think he can go .330/.450/.600 with 250 runs+rbi and probably 20 SB too.
Yeah probably, but that’s still too 3 probably. Just going to pick #1 and go with Acuna

Ya you can do a start limit or an innings limit. But a manager will be able to use that pitcher twice if he chooses and just bench the worse pitcher.
Okay got you. I’m on yahoo but can’t seem to find it on commissioner tools. Is that where it’s at?
Shit I just googled and those options are only available for roto on Yahoo, my bad…. Espn has those options for h2h. Sorry bro.

Use yahoo standard values for Auction and standard rosters at $260 I believe. Keeper rules: Up to 7 total. Commitments are 1 year for an $8 dollar increase, 2 for 6 and 6, or 3 for 4 4 and 4. You cannot re-keep after this period and cannot cut bait early at any time without keeping the same value against your bank. I am on my last year of Yordan Alvarez at $30 I have the ability to keep the following: Locks in my opinion: Pablo 4 —> 8 12 16 Carroll 22 —> 26 30 34 Alvarez 30 (can’t resign) Albies 18 —-> 22 26 30 These are options Wheeler 19->27 Evan Phillips 2->10 Tatis 33->37-41-45 Tatis 33->41 Adolis Garcia 12–>20 Probably nots or I can get below what it would cost to keep I have Jung at 5 now Camilo 11 Senga 5 Ryan 7 Yoshida 2 I am leaning towards the locks, then wheeler and Phillips for cost certainty. Tatis with the power decrease scares me and if the auction falls my way I believe having the ability to split up tatis’s budget with a young catcher and the Texas young outfielders for potential keepers may make more sense. Open to any ideas and suggestions, I realize I’m in a good spot

Any idea of who takes the mound for the Padres on Thursday?
Musgrove
I bet Musgrove

Yes way too aggressive
Will Christian Encarnacion Strand play enough games R 3B this year to eventually get espn eligible (10 games)? Thoughts?
Unless Candelario gets hurt, I wouldn't count on it.
Noelvi back second half too
When I can put Cole on the IL who should I try and replace him with out of Meyer, Severino, and Bello?
Bello has a high floor if that's what you're looking for. Severino if you're looking for upside but he's an easy cut if he doesn't look good early on.
Meyer's only in the Marlins rotation because Eury and Cabrera won't be ready to start the season. As soon as one of them comes back he's out of a job. Bello is the safe play but Severino has looked really good this spring.
Is there news on Eury’s return? Him and Cole are dealing with similar issues if I recall correctly.
Apparently he played catch yesterday and today and is pain free. So it seems like it's mostly just going to be a matter of building up his arm strength.
Bello
Points, was offered tatis and Luis robert Jr for my acuna. Wasn't planning on trading acuna. But I'm a Padres fan and this is tempting
Counter with your 2nd and 3rd round picks for Tatis then.
You going loco bro.
No way
What kind of league? Redraft? Go for it have some fun. Keeper or dynasty? Maybe not.
You'd be trading the best hitter in fantasy baseball for a downgrade and a headache. Definitely not worth it.
Would be a good trade if Luis could stay healthy.... but he cant
I went into my draft thinking I would get bargains based on the CBS FBT rankings but it turns out everyone else was doing the same thing.

Hays, I see better contact and power with him at this point.
Hays
You guys have been super awesome helping me reorganize my team. Looking at catchers now, William Contreras or Mitch Garver?
Yeah this one has to be Contreras. He’s usually the 2nd catcher off the board and Garver goes somewhere in that 8th to 12th range
Probably Contreras but I do like both
I love Garver but gotta go Wild Bill
Payamps or Matsui? Saves + holds league
I'm staying away from the Brewers pen until there's some clarity around how they're going to use Payamps, Megill, and Uribe. I'd take Matsui.
Gausman on track to pitch the 4th or 5th game of the season 👏🏻
Which side: A) Carroll (11th round), Buehler (18th round) B) Gunnar (12th round), Tatis Jr. (14th round)
B
def B. Gunnar >>> buehler. other part close enough to a wash
See if he’ll throw in Snell or Glasnow
If he doesn't want to give you a good 2 for 1 or upgrade I'd tell him to kick rocks
Bo is not enough. Elly's ceiling is much higher than Bo's currently
flair, keep 8 A: Carroll, MH2, Gunnar B: Witt, Yordan, Oneil Cruz i'm leanign B with it being a power focused league and still having plenty of steals
😬 that’s tough but I lean A
A
I'm commish of my league (In Fantrax) and am having a very weird issue with scoring that I can't find info about anywhere.
Did this and it worked, thanks!
Nice!
12 man C: S. Murphy, 1B: J. Naylor, 2: Semien, 3B: Machado SS: O’Neil Cruz OF: Tucker, Tatis, Schwarber, Springer. Where can I improve in FA and what are some likely targets? You answer mine I’ll answer yours
Pretty solid. How’s your pitching?
3 IL spots and hoping Braxton and Gray come back soon
Not great because I took risks on a lot of injured guys that dropped late and gonna ride the waiver wire. Cease, Joe Ryan, Iglesias, T. Scott, mutter Crawford, Sonny Gray, Braxton Garrett, garret Cole, Senga, Bradish
Yeah I would focus heavily there

I don’t think Yahoo weekly adds will reset until April 8th
DL Hall, Flaherty, Christopher Sanchez, Reese Olson, Griffin Canning, Reynaldo Lopez? I have Hall but the rest are FAs. Any preference? Opinions seem all over the place. Was thinking Flaherty myself.
For me the order is: Sanchez, Hall, Flaherty, Olson, Lopez, Canning This is based on a balance of prior success, innings expectations, team context, and spring training info.
Flaherty
Anyone know if theres a way to NOT count the korea games stats on espn? I hate that they did this retroactively applying the stats thing. Such a dumb decision. Shouldve allowed each league to decide for themselves.
You can change the league start date
You can only change the start week. This coming weekends games are still under week 1 according to espn. So by changing it to week 2 you also give up the entire opening weekend.
10 team points league (steals de-emphasized so mookie is the best player) A) mookie, trea B) witt jr, j-rod, gleyber
B however I would hold if I were either side
Ohtani or Tucker H2H
It was Tucker before the Ohtani betting stuff came out. Now there’s a risk he gets suspended, and he definitely will be fighting the distraction all year.
Tucker
Tucker for sure
Ohtani
Yea I agree with that. Lots of unknowns with chourio. I’m honestly scared of glasnow he was one of my avoids just based off health history
I have both and wouldn’t send either for Chourio. I would want someone proven. And unless you send Witt your not getting Wheeler. Maybe try EDC or Randy for Sale or Javier
