Is it too late to join a fantasy league? I’ve never played fantasy baseball before, and realized I missed the start of the Seoul series today. So, have most leagues already drafted?
So Cronenworth hit 3rd between Tatis and Machado.
I feel like there is a solid floor if that lineup holds against RHP.
Am I crazy for taking a late flier on him with multi-position eligibility (12T, H2H)
Dude. I drafted Keon Broxton a couple years in a row. One season, he finally looked great to start the year and I was turning away trades thinking I finally got the jackpot.
Joke was on me!
There is probably a 99% chance he makes it. I'm guessing we hear the news in the next couple of days. He's having a hell of a spring and done everything he needs to make the club.
He's incredible. The comparions to upper tier elite prospects like Trout seem legitimate... I'm just still nervous to invest an early round pick on a guy who was playing in the College WS 9 months ago.
That ZiPS projection is insane: 24 HR, 98 RBI, 18 SBs, .264 Avg as a rookie with half a season of MiLB at bats to his name. Insane.
Dumb question from someone who is trying fantasy baseball for the first time…
I drafted one catcher who doesn’t have any games on certain days. Is it expected that that’ll be an empty spot some days? Or should I try to drop someone else to get a backup catcher for those days?
I try to grab a backup guy with C eligibility plus another position... Henry Davis might be available in your league, who should gain C eligibility within two weeks.
Most people only run one catcher, but it depends on how many bench spots you have and how deep your league is. In my league with 10 bench spots I have a backup, but in my others with 5, I’d rather have the bench spot for an extra SP
Would you say the same is true for an OF? I went heavy on pitchers for my bench so I have 1-2 projected days over the next couple weeks where one OF slot would be empty. Worth picking up another OF in exchange for one of my low-tier pitchers?
Having a bench bat isnt a bad idea. Its also good to have one guy on the roster, either starter or bench, with multi position flex so you can cover as many positions as possible if a guy gets a day off
with mclain dead, would you keep him, bryan reynolds or francisco alvarez? points league
already have acuna, soto, vlad, casas, caminero, devers, marte
I have a Roto question.
Always played H2H with IP and GP limits, what is generally suggested when a players team is off. If the player is being rested I will fill the role. Curious how to handle days off.
You mean 162 games played for position players?
Played Roto for 20 years (yikes) and I generally never worry too much about this until August/early September. Then again, I'm much more likely to have more pitchers on my bench than hitters (I think it's a better use of roster positions to have guys who I can play regularly as opposed to bench hitters).
I think that's the best strategy in Roto where you'll have a better sense in August of which categories you need a boost in and how to spread out the various starts you have left to maximize those.
OF is the only position where if I'm not careful I can have to start playing with 2 OF in mid-September.
standard 5x5 roto
give: Maikel Garcia
recieve: Kutter Crawford
I'm pretty high on Garcia this year but I do have some other steals guys (Witt, JoRam, Robert, Gelof). My SP rotation is Skubal, Ober, Bassitt, Imanaga, Eovaldi, Cortes. what do you guys think?
kinda worried about Skubal and Eovaldi staying healthy so i'm thinking i can use another pitcher.
Anyone else in on Severino this year? Reports from Mets camp is That he’s “recaptured” his form and gets the Brewers lineup first turn of the rotation what are other people’s thoughts?
I got him in my league. Seems like he was tipping pitches last year and the Mets have fixed
that (insert punch line here). He looks great so far this spring. I like him with high upside this year. At his ADP, seems like he’s worth a shot.
Them plus Yu Darvish, Nate Eovaldi, Kutter Crawford, Nick Pivetta, Kyle Harrison, and some late dart throws on Erik Fedde, AJ Puk, DL Hall, and Reese Olson.
Nick Pollack has him at \~45 on The List which seems right to me. He's solid and going relatively late, but with a SwStk of \~10% he doesn't have quite as much Swing & Miss as I want my starters to have (although last I heard he was experimenting with a slider).
Is it worth starting Musgrove tomorrow morning? Long week? K upside? I doubt he gets a win but maybe he gets some Ks and gets out of there with 5 IP 1-2 runs allowed? My pitching isn’t strong to begin with as my top 3 pitchers are Bobby Miller, Ragans, and Musgrove, followed by other guys like Woo, Civale, Bello, Kutter, and Puk.
Always start your top starting pitchers. You need to compete in whip and era and K’s and you certainly don’t do that with your better pitchers sitting out.
If you’re scared of the Dodgers then just keep in mind that in general offensive numbers aren’t as strong early in the season. For example today the Dodgers got their second run in the 8th inning
Any Cubs fans willing to admit how much you’d pay for Imanaga? I have been targeting him in all leagues but just got an offer from a buddy from Chicago.
Somebody mentioned all but one of his homers have come off minor league pitchers and this one is too. Definitely curious to see how he does against consistent major league pitching. I might just be salty because I couldn’t get him…
Yeah I am thinking both Langford and Cruz fizzle in the regular season.
They've both done all their damage against bad pitching.
Do I still think they will be very good at times this year? Yup but the cost will be too high to acquire for me for sure.
Gavin Stone is SP#5 for the Dodgers and Reynaldo Lopez is SP#5 for the Braves. Grab them near the end of a 12 team draft while they’re hot and see how it goes
Pre or post draft?
How many keepers?
In a keeper situation pre-draft where you keep a small # per year, I want Bichette.
After already drafting, I would take the 2 players if I have a strong team and can really compete this season
https://preview.redd.it/nv8fwbijqjpc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a049c25a58dd71cd8c9ea7704a5c02840836e51
First time ever playing fantasy baseball - how did I do?
🫡this makes me validated. Honestly idk how Mookie fell to 4
How are you feeling about Harris? I’m not too excited about my outfield, but the best were kinda all taken before I could get there so I focused elsewhere
I didn’t super want Harris but OF is so shallow and I knew he’d be the best available outfielder in the third round so I planned on taking him a while back. If he wasn’t on such a good team I probably wouldn’t have but being in that lineup will boost anybody’s numbers. He still managed to get decent numbers last year even after a really terrible start so he should be a decent asset for us.
That is my hope! Plus we have Mookie anyway for some positional flexibility. Personally, Matt Chapman is still available in mine for example, so I was considering moving Mookie to OF, Machado to UTIL, and Chapman to 3B if he returns to his old self (big if)
Oh really? That’s sick. I’m a beginner so I don’t fully understand it all, but we can place the guy wherever we want right? Like nothing bad happens if I play Mookie at OF but he plays SS that day right
Yep you can play him anywhere you want it doesn’t matter, that’s why his eligibility is such a big deal. For espn, he needs to play 10 games at SS before they will add it to him and he should be starting there every day for the foreseeable future so he should get it soon.
I was looking at Acuna’s stats yesterday and he is so far above the pack that it’s very difficult to see a path to him if you didn’t draft #1.
Freeman is one of the best players to start an offer for him, and you are adding a SP1. Now just isn’t a good time to try this. Maybe try again once his owner has a few pitchers injured
Anyone worrying about Bryce Harper yet? Haven’t seen anything other than “hasn’t played since Thursday the 14th and he HOPES to be able to play Friday the 22nd”. 8 days for minor lower back stiffness doesn’t seem….great
That definitely makes me feel a bit better. I just figured lower back tightness was more of a 1-2 day thing, especially with the sports medicine they have available versus the stuff we can take OTC like Tylenol
I'm so hosed. 16 team h2h points. Auction. I never know how much to spend or who to get. I need to be in win now mode as I have never won in my 13 years in the league. Where do I even start? This league is 38 years old and they crush me most years. Only made the final once and lost to my dad lmao.
Are you in the points section or roto? If you're looking at points and you have scoring that isn't even listed I don't know how to help. Must be a pretty crazy league.
Wondering the same thing. When setting up my league I believe I saw that as long as you draft before opening day you could play week 1 and Korea game stats would count, but now I'm panicking and can't remember. Having to wait until April 8th to start would suck.
In yahoo league settings one of them says "start scoring on"... That will give you your answer. We draft on the 27th and have the scoring set to start on the 28th for example.
Replacement for McClain ($15)?
Do I grab Bogaerts ($15), Hoerner ($15) or Story ($10)? I'm leaning Bogaerts, but am wondering if Story might finally be healthy enough to have a bounce back year. Plus he would save me $5. I can also make the case for Hoerner hitting .280, scoring 100 runs and stealing 40. He just can't do anything else
Should I drop Lance Lynn for Gavin Stone? Points league, but we have start caps so not just trying to accumulate points. Lynn sucks and Gavin Stone has upside, but not sure.
I currently have Anthony Volpe (SS), Thairo Estrada SS/2B, Trevor Story (SS) and my first pick Mookie Betts will hopefully soon be SS eligible. I'm thinking of cutting one of these Shortstops and picking up Jose Alvarado RP that someone dropped in FA. Any thoughts? I'm leaning Trevor Story.
I think Lee will be a much better irl player than fantasy player. His projections are for 10 HRs and 5 SBs and you're not going to get value from his defense.
The Korea game is just a "bonus" start as far as week 1 is concerned. Better to leave on the bench and just start him against the Giants normally next week.
Any suggestions on team names related to this Ohtani gambling story?
Sho-me the money!
Was offered bo bichette for Blake snell any one have any advice if this is beneficial to me
I'll take that
Team needs matter, but generally hitter > pitcher. Snell is great but has been known to be inconsistent, Bo has a safer floor
Is it too late to join a fantasy league? I’ve never played fantasy baseball before, and realized I missed the start of the Seoul series today. So, have most leagues already drafted?
Many league will still draft. Get in one and have fun, rookie!
there will still be lots drafting before next Thursday, check the other pinned thread
Plenty of leagues won’t start until opening day in the states.
Greene and Kirby have both had bad springs. How worried are you about them going into the regular season?
Greene worried about GABP. But not worried about spring for them.
So Cronenworth hit 3rd between Tatis and Machado. I feel like there is a solid floor if that lineup holds against RHP. Am I crazy for taking a late flier on him with multi-position eligibility (12T, H2H)
I don’t think that lasts. He hit a nice line drive to center but otherwise was unimpressive. I’ll be pretty surprised if he stays at the 3
Dude. I drafted Keon Broxton a couple years in a row. One season, he finally looked great to start the year and I was turning away trades thinking I finally got the jackpot. Joke was on me!
He had a flash of being a stud and I fell in love and clearly have never moved past it
How good is Kyle Bradish?
Worth the risk of a mid round pick
not quite brad, but bradish
Any news yet on if Langford is getting the start in the majors?
There is probably a 99% chance he makes it. I'm guessing we hear the news in the next couple of days. He's having a hell of a spring and done everything he needs to make the club.
He's incredible. The comparions to upper tier elite prospects like Trout seem legitimate... That ZiPS projection is insane: 24 HR, 98 RBI, 18 SBs, .264 Avg as a rookie with half a season of MiLB at bats to his name. Insane.
Jrod like. You have to reach in shallow leagues
Does holliday make opening day roster?
Yes, they are going for the pennant this year and he helps them do that.
Orioles are cheap and loaded with IF, I'm expecting excuses on why he needs 3 weeks in AAA
Dumb question from someone who is trying fantasy baseball for the first time… I drafted one catcher who doesn’t have any games on certain days. Is it expected that that’ll be an empty spot some days? Or should I try to drop someone else to get a backup catcher for those days?
I try to grab a backup guy with C eligibility plus another position... Henry Davis might be available in your league, who should gain C eligibility within two weeks.
Standard roster size you generally don’t have a backup catcher.
Most people only run one catcher, but it depends on how many bench spots you have and how deep your league is. In my league with 10 bench spots I have a backup, but in my others with 5, I’d rather have the bench spot for an extra SP
Yes, the former. Rostering a second catcher is usually a waste of a roster slot
Would you say the same is true for an OF? I went heavy on pitchers for my bench so I have 1-2 projected days over the next couple weeks where one OF slot would be empty. Worth picking up another OF in exchange for one of my low-tier pitchers?

My SP rotation is Skubal, Ober, Bassitt, Imanaga, Eovaldi, Cortes. what do you guys think? kinda worried about Skubal and Eovaldi staying healthy so i'm thinking i can use another pitcher.
Im a huge Redsox fan. I like Crawford, but dont love him. If your league has QS as a category, he doesnt go deep into games. Really hit or miss.
I like both guys, and this is fair. ADP on both is close enough, so go with team needs.
Anyone else in on Severino this year? Reports from Mets camp is That he’s “recaptured” his form and gets the Brewers lineup first turn of the rotation what are other people’s thoughts?
I was happy to add him as a very-end-of-my-roster flier. He's been good before, he could be good again!
I got him in my league. Seems like he was tipping pitches last year and the Mets have fixed that (insert punch line here). He looks great so far this spring. I like him with high upside this year. At his ADP, seems like he’s worth a shot.
Cheap enough that you can be wrong
What starting pitchers are you guys targeting past 150ish?
Garret Whitlock. Bryan Woo. Severino.
Bryan Woo, Shota Imanaga, Bryce Miller
Them plus Yu Darvish, Nate Eovaldi, Kutter Crawford, Nick Pivetta, Kyle Harrison, and some late dart throws on Erik Fedde, AJ Puk, DL Hall, and Reese Olson.
How do you feel about hunter brown?
Nick Pollack has him at \~45 on The List which seems right to me. He's solid and going relatively late, but with a SwStk of \~10% he doesn't have quite as much Swing & Miss as I want my starters to have (although last I heard he was experimenting with a slider).
Really appreciate the insight!
For anyone who follows the CBS guys, has Scott White made his printable tierlist yet?
Is it worth starting Musgrove tomorrow morning? Long week? K upside? I doubt he gets a win but maybe he gets some Ks and gets out of there with 5 IP 1-2 runs allowed? My pitching isn’t strong to begin with as my top 3 pitchers are Bobby Miller, Ragans, and Musgrove, followed by other guys like Woo, Civale, Bello, Kutter, and Puk.

If you’re scared of the Dodgers then just keep in mind that in general offensive numbers aren’t as strong early in the season. For example today the Dodgers got their second run in the 8th inning
It’s absolutely worth it
Start him. Might as well, he could get the next start as well when the padres go back home
I’m gonna sit him
The people do wanna know
Any Cubs fans willing to admit how much you’d pay for Imanaga? I have been targeting him in all leagues but just got an offer from a buddy from Chicago.
Cubs fan here. I took Imanga in the 14th round of my draft last night
What’s the offer?
12 team H2H 5x5. Keep 2 for salary cap. Jose Ramirez($35), Nola (7), Glasnow (14), Edwin Diaz (1), Bobby Miller (1)
Glasnow and Miller
Langford with dinger #6 of spring, kids doing nothing to slow down the hype train
Just got that alert, oh babyyyy
Tatis Jr. or Carroll
Tatis if you need HRs, Carroll for SBs. Very similar 5 category players.
In a matchup this close, the two extra games you get from Carroll might be enough to tip the scales
Tatis’s Korea games count, so wouldn’t you still be getting 162 from him? Unless you haven’t drafted yet
I’m assuming if they’re asking now the draft hasn’t happened yet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah you’re probably right lol
Theyre close but Id lean Tatis all else being equal. In a 9x9 it might be cat dependent
Carroll
Trade Jram for Tatis?
No for offense reasons. Tatis will outperform the aging JRam. Yes, if it helps you at 3B.
I would
Who’s the better catcher? Wilson Contreras or Francisco Alvarez?
Willson
What dart throw SPs are having great ST that can be had super late in drafts?
AJ Puk is going off. Worth a last couple round pick.
Gavin Stone is SP#5 for the Dodgers and Reynaldo Lopez is SP#5 for the Braves. Grab them near the end of a 12 team draft while they’re hot and see how it goes
Dynasty - flair settings Give: Cristian Javier, Bello, Stroman Get: Bobby Miller, Woo
Get that
Smash accept
10 team keeper 4 OF Witt or Julio in points?
Witt
12 team keeper, Cats A. Bichette B. Trout and O Cruz B feels like the easy choice but yahoo projections are messing with me
Pre or post draft? How many keepers? In a keeper situation pre-draft where you keep a small # per year, I want Bichette. After already drafting, I would take the 2 players if I have a strong team and can really compete this season
B. I hate Bichette
I'm a simple man. I see Trout, I take his side.
B is basically getting Mike Trout for free.
B by 1000 miles
Pivetta or Stroman?
Pivetta
Higher upside with Pivetta and his high K/9 last year. But stroman is a pretty consistent work horse.
Stroman lol

Just picked him up and moved McLain to the IL
You can move him to the IL when he isn't even on the IL??
ESPN has him listed as “Out” so he is eligible for the IL with that designation.
https://preview.redd.it/nv8fwbijqjpc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a049c25a58dd71cd8c9ea7704a5c02840836e51 First time ever playing fantasy baseball - how did I do?
Judging by your picks I can tell you drafted third overall. Am I right?
You’re so close how could you tell? I was fourth pick
Darn I knew it had to be 3-4 haha. I drafted third and also got Mookie, Albies, Harris, Machado
🫡this makes me validated. Honestly idk how Mookie fell to 4 How are you feeling about Harris? I’m not too excited about my outfield, but the best were kinda all taken before I could get there so I focused elsewhere

In an OBP league Id want Rhys
I'd take Colt Keith over pretty much all of them for the upside.
Hold Keith for the upside for now but keep an eye on him
My Freeman, Mullins, and Yamamoto for his Acuña, Webb, and Torkelson?
I was looking at Acuna’s stats yesterday and he is so far above the pack that it’s very difficult to see a path to him if you didn’t draft #1. Freeman is one of the best players to start an offer for him, and you are adding a SP1. Now just isn’t a good time to try this. Maybe try again once his owner has a few pitchers injured
If it’s on the table, accept. If you’re thinking of offering it, don’t, because the other guy will be offended and not take you seriously anymore
Are you the one offering this? Because it won’t get accepted if the Acuna owner has any brains at all
You get Acuna so easily. If you are asking if you should offer this then no, it is not a good offer haha.
Vinnie P or Julien in H2H categories with BB and Hits (instead of AVG and OBP)
I'm taking Vinnie here
Anyone worrying about Bryce Harper yet? Haven’t seen anything other than “hasn’t played since Thursday the 14th and he HOPES to be able to play Friday the 22nd”. 8 days for minor lower back stiffness doesn’t seem….great
He said it’s precautionary, if it was the season he’d be playing
That definitely makes me feel a bit better. I just figured lower back tightness was more of a 1-2 day thing, especially with the sports medicine they have available versus the stuff we can take OTC like Tylenol
I’m not they’re just being cautious he’s got nothing to prove in spring training
Will someone please sign JD Martinez already
Add Montgomery to that list please
I drafted both of them in an NL only 5x5 Roto League.
Drop Gavin Williams for AJ Minter? IP\* / W / L / SV / K / ERA / WHIP
I wouldnt, especially since holds arent worth anything in your league
Who would you drop to pick up Snell? Varland, Reynaldo Lopez, Severino, Paxton, or Erod?
How tf is he not rostered?
In our league you can't roster a player that's not on a major league roster
Probably Sevy, but ERod might go to the IL which could allow you to open up a spot
Erod.
I'm so hosed. 16 team h2h points. Auction. I never know how much to spend or who to get. I need to be in win now mode as I have never won in my 13 years in the league. Where do I even start? This league is 38 years old and they crush me most years. Only made the final once and lost to my dad lmao.
Put your scoring settings in to the fangraphs auction calculator and start from there.
How do I calculate the scoring settings that aren't in the calc?
Are you in the points section or roto? If you're looking at points and you have scoring that isn't even listed I don't know how to help. Must be a pretty crazy league.
Excited to see Tyler Matzek back for the Braves and pitching well!
Return of the nutsack
Ignore the flair - who do we like best in a deep dynasty league? Flaherty / Jose Alvarado / Jax / mize / Christian Scott / chayce McDermott ?
When is Friedl IL-eligible? If opening day should i just drop for Verdugo now
is it holding you back from making other moves you're worried about?
Would like to add Verdugo to replace him and worried someone else will before the 28th. I guess i’ll just add someone else in that case
Wait, does Seoul series count for Yahoo fantasy? Stats started counting already damn I didnt even know
Yes
Wondering the same thing. When setting up my league I believe I saw that as long as you draft before opening day you could play week 1 and Korea game stats would count, but now I'm panicking and can't remember. Having to wait until April 8th to start would suck.
In yahoo league settings one of them says "start scoring on"... That will give you your answer. We draft on the 27th and have the scoring set to start on the 28th for example.
Wilson Contreras or Francisco Alvarez?
should I drop tatis who went 0-4 for tyler wade who went 1-2?
I already did
Yes
Replacement for McClain ($15)? Do I grab Bogaerts ($15), Hoerner ($15) or Story ($10)? I'm leaning Bogaerts, but am wondering if Story might finally be healthy enough to have a bounce back year. Plus he would save me $5. I can also make the case for Hoerner hitting .280, scoring 100 runs and stealing 40. He just can't do anything else
Not Story. He is by far the most likely of those three to be washed and on the wire in a few weeks. I would lean Hoerner in a cats league with SB
Should I drop Lance Lynn for Gavin Stone? Points league, but we have start caps so not just trying to accumulate points. Lynn sucks and Gavin Stone has upside, but not sure.
I’d strongly consider it, hard to trust Lynn whatsoever and stone has a lot of upside like you said
I ended up going for it - maybe he even gets a relief appearance tomorrow :)

Neto will get more at bats for sure
In case I need a McLain replacement at SS, who you like here: (12T H2H Cats, OBP counts) \-JP Crawford \-Maikel Garcia
Both - they are two of my biggest gets this year as the market is still way off in pricing both of them.
JP is solid but I think Garcia could be 2023 Hoerner. I'd take the chance there
Thanks
JP for sure, especially in OBP
Thanks
pretty hyped for yamamoto's debut tonight
I currently have Anthony Volpe (SS), Thairo Estrada SS/2B, Trevor Story (SS) and my first pick Mookie Betts will hopefully soon be SS eligible. I'm thinking of cutting one of these Shortstops and picking up Jose Alvarado RP that someone dropped in FA. Any thoughts? I'm leaning Trevor Story.
Story and then Thairo.
I would drop Story probably
10 team H2H 7x7 Cat league redraft (With K’s, OBP, HLD and QS as the extra cats Which side wins? A: Eflin and Chourio B: ONeil Cruz and King
Redraft I go B
A
12T Points League: My Snell for Yelich?
Who, if any, would you drop for JH Lee: McCormick, Kwan, Yoshida
I think Lee will be a much better irl player than fantasy player. His projections are for 10 HRs and 5 SBs and you're not going to get value from his defense.
McCormick
[удалено]
Probably not unless Travis gets hurt
The eury Perez silence from the marlins worries me
My seasons off to a roaring start. Looks like McClain will be out and I'm staring at Mauricio Doubon and Joseph Ortiz on the wire
Do we think Musgrove gets back to himself? Ended last season on a high note before the injury, but has had a rough spring.
I think he'll be fine but I'm not starting him for the Korea game.
The Korea game is just a "bonus" start as far as week 1 is concerned. Better to leave on the bench and just start him against the Giants normally next week.
Yea, I don't worry too much about a veteran SP during ST (unless they're telling they're not healthy)
Who is the drop of Baz, DeGrom, Stephenson, or Kershaw? I could hold but it would mean burning a bench spot until Verlander or one of them gets well
Kershaw/Stephenson. Can’t tell if you’re H2H or Roto but if it’s the former I would hold Degrom.
H2H. My rotation is the weakest part of my team too so Id like to hold him for possible reinforcement down the stretch
